Authorizing machine not working

I have recently purchased 12 songs from iTunes and have created a playlist. When I tried to burn them on to a CD I got an error message saying that my machine was not authorized to play the songs. I followed the directions for authorizing, got a successful authorization message and tried to play and burn the songs, but then the whole error message repeated itself. I need the songs for a wedding on New Years Eve and so I'M DESPERATE! HELP!

Thanks for your reply, I did repair permissions:

I really dont know what any of this means......
And there are still a few music files that wont play and bring up either a prompt to locate the file or a window that shows an old Apple ID in the dialog box it says i need to authorize this computer, I've tried using the old ID and password and it then says that the Apple id is not valid. I only have one computer, and my iphone so......Still confused.... is there a way or a list of steps to collect, clear and restore to a new install of my music? Both purchased and downloaded from cds?

  • Ref: Time machine not working

I have a question. Can I use TM to reset my System Preferences. In hope it would put back what changed back in Nov.
I cannot accesses any files in TM and no error message from TM. Please read Time machine not working posted 19 April. Many thanks.

You need to explain just what you mean "not working".
Also, what are you backing-up to?

  • Time machine not working on macbook pro 10.6.8

My time machine is not working, I want to upgrade to Lion do I need time machine?

Not to upgrade, but you may want to use Time Machine for your regular backup.
How to Install Lion/Mountain Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
      1. If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before
installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the
update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is
          complete and you've restarted.
      2. You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-
party system software modifications, or if you have modified the
operating system through other means. (This does not apply to
          normal application software installation.)
      3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or
other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone
installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the
installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion/Mountain Lion:
      1. Purchase the Lion/Mountain Lion Installer from the Mac App Store.
The download should start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast
internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4
hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the
          time.
      2. The installer will run automatically after the download is completed.
Click on the Install button to begin the upgrade.
      3. Follow instructions for installation.
You may also wish to consider this:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/
Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.
Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move
the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You
must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes
        installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
      a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left
side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until
          the process has completed.
      d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side
list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the
button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
      f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash
         drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
      a. Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
      b. Open Disk Utility.
      c. Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
      d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      e. Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
      f. Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
      g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above (you still have to do your own download of Lion/Mountain Lion) you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process of Steps 2 through 4.

  • Time Machine not working after ethernet card failed

A couple of weeks back my iMac Core Duo's ethernet failed. As a logic board replacement for a 3.5 year old iMac would be expensive I instead bought an Apple USB Ethernet adapter (which works great). However, now Time Machine will not work, it says it cannot find the built in network interface. It does not matter whether I connect the external drive directly via firewire or over the network to my Mac Mini (which will backup with either connection).
    Here is the console error:
+Time Machine: Error setting backup path: Error Domain=com.apple.TimeMachine.Preferences Code=-1 UserInfo=0x1864bdf0 "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found."+
+_CSBackupGetMachineMACAddress - IOServiceGetMatchingServices did not find an ethernet service with kIOPrimaryInterface true+
I tried the instructions on the Apple Support page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275#5, but that did not work. Can anyone help?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It's a long shot, but try a "Full Reset" of Time Machine, per item #B3 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
TM uses your Mac's Ethernet Address, which is embedded in the hardware of, guess what, your logic board, to identify your computer. This is how it keeps the backups for each Mac separate, so you can back-up more than one Mac to the same place without conflicts.
To find this address, use the System Profiler app (click the Apple icon at the left of your Menubar, then +About this Mac,+ then +More Info.+
Select Network in the sidebar, then Ethernet then find a line like this: +*MAC Address: 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f+* That code, omitting the colons, is what TM puts in a hidden file on your TM volume to identify it as your Mac's backups.
Since your internal Ethernet card failed, you may not see that at all. If not, neither, apparently, can Time Machine. Other than getting a new logic board, I don't think there's a workaround.

  • Search in Time Machine not working

I am trying to access my Library in Time Machine. Ive done the "command" "shift" "g" then ~/library with no luck, seems like the search itself is not working at all. Im trying to retrieve a specific file from time machine..please help

  • Ibooks author autoplay not working

I was excited to see that the latest version of iBooks Author has Autoplay as an option.  However, selecting it is not allowing HTML5 widget or movies to Autoplay.  Is anyone having this work?

    Hi there
Not working on what - the iPad or the iBooks on the mac? the auto play for keynotes (and so probably also HTML widgets) function requires iBooks v1.1, which only available for Yosemite. Mavericks only goes up to v1.01. On an iPad, I think it requires iOS8.

  • Why will my Time Machine not work/

    Hi all.
Today my friend did me a "favour" and removed the 'Applicaton' icon (much to my surprise) from that part of the toolbar next to my Trash basket.
When I looked in the Trash to try and retrieve it, for some reason it was not there.
No problem I thought, I clicked onto the main hard drive icon on the desktop which I call "Nemesis" and when the page loaded I went down to the pop up launch bar on the (hidden) bottom part of the screen.
When the icons popped up I selected Time machine (for Nemesis) and went back a few pages to where I thought all was O.K.
This is where the problem lay.
Every item/button within Time machine was highlighted and appeared to be in a working condition except the "Restore" button. It was greyed out and did not work!
I could not "Restore" to my desired time period.............Why?
    Regards

Open the hard drive and drag the Applications folder to the Dock (to the right of the dividing line).

  • Oracle virtula box machine not working properly

    Hi All,
I have installed oracle virtual machine with Redhat 6 OS. My host machine is also on Redhat 6 OS.
The issue I am facing is when I am connecting to virtual machine through Team viewer connection , any special characters are not working i.e /,*," etc. All the alphabets keys are working properly.
I am only facing the issue when I am connecting through Team viewer , everything works fine when I connects directly to server.
Sometime I have to connect to it through Team Viewer session to work remotely. Can you please help or suggest something.
    Thanks,
    Virender.

    Hi Steven,
Unfortunately I don't have any error message with me even not in team viewer logs. It just simply not type special characters through team viewer.
    Thanks,
Virender.Ok, so you are sayng that the team viewer interface doesn't seem to be accepting keyboard input for some/all 'special' characters?
And just to make sure you understand the architecture, that VBox machine is, for all intents and purposes, a remote machine. It has it's own ip address and operates inside its own little world contained within the virtual machine. Do you have any other connectivity type issues with it? Can you start an ssh session on it from your host desktop machine?
BTW, this is a database forum, and I haven't yet seen anything in this thread relating to a database - or even an Oracle product of any kind. Are we really dealing with an issue that would be better addressed on a generic Linux forum?

  • GoFlex, Xfinity, & Time Machine not working together anymore. Any suggestions?

I have a GoFlex external harddrive connected to an Xfinity wireless modem. For over a year I was able to successfully back up (Time Machine) on two MacBook Pro. About 4 months ago, Time Machine would not complete the back up on either computer. After powering down all related devices and repowering everythign works consistently until the Time Machine back up starts. The back up will start and continue for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the back up stops and the Xfintiy Modem stops wireless tramission. I have researched and attempted several different methods to resolve, but with no success.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

I am of no help to you... but maybe you can help me.
I can't get Time Machine to work with my GoFlex Home. I know it's not my wireless network. Because I've gone through a dsl modem/wifi by NetGear. Then a NetGear 2.4/5.0GHz wifi router and now Airport Extreme 5th gen.
TM recognize GoFlex Home as an acceptable disc for TM. But after a few seconds of trying to connect to it, it fails. I forget the exact reason though.
How did you connect to the GoFlex as a Time Machine?

The external drive is malfunctioning, or the data cable is bad, or you have another malfunctioning device on the bus, or there's an internal hardware fault.

  • Time Machine not working after upgrading to Lion

I have a Time Machine 1.2 which worked perfectly on my old iMac OSX.  A few months ago I purchased a new iMac which came with Snow Leopard, and it worked well.  But when Apple came to upgrade me to Lion, the Time Machine no longer works.   Is it not compatible with Lion??
At one stage I was told there was no room on the disk.  I then tried to delete most of the previous backups, leaving only a handful of backups - but still no luck.  I think I might have messed up things by then trying to edit the "do not back up" list. I tried to exclude some programmes applications , and now I am told there are no disks available to be backed up.
It is not very clear on the "options" screen, what one should do. What does the + and - indicate, and is it necessary to remove any files at all if I want a simple regular backup procedure on my home computer.
Lastly - if I wanted to uninstall and reinstall the Time Machine - is there a procedure?? I can't find one.
I hope someone can put me right.

I was brave and did what you said. (Thanks for being patient - I am an old lady).
I erased the external drive (called Time Machine Backups) in the diskutility.app.
Now - when I restarted Time Machine I am still told that there are no disks available to be backed up, and that this can happen if all disks are in the “Do not back up” list.
So maybe I really did mess up the list of items to be excluded from backups?
How do I restore the list now to what it should be?

  • Sharing itunes purchases between two authorized computers not working

    hello,
i currently own two apple laptops and want to be able to play my music that i purchased on one, on the other, as well. i have followed the instructions in other posts that tell me to 1, authorize the new computer, which i have done, and 2, if that works to go into a folder on my drive and delete it out to start fresh, which i have done, as well. however, when i click on the purchased songs, it is still telling me i need to authorize my computer. the computer, as i said, is already authorized.
    can anyone help with this?

I'm not sure I understand your second step. Couldn't you use the Home Sharing feature in iTunes 9 to accomplish this, as long as it's enabled for each? Both computers should be authorized with the same iTunes Store account, as you've done.

  • Mac OS X Server 10.6.7 update - Time Machine not working and other trouble.

I've upgraded my mid 2010 mac mini server to 10.6.7 with server Combo download.
After installation (without any errors) i've detected this troubleshooting.
Time Machine (backup hd is the 2nd 500GB Hd of mini server) dont work more and
display error message that suggest to verify hard disks (done with no errors detection).
    Mac Help display white page.
And if try to install Server Admin Tools, installation utility not recognize system HD and cannot be done.
The mac mini server seems however works and services seems works rights. Can be rebooted without problems.
I've tried to backup the system disk on the second hd with Carbon Copy Cloner without problem and it recognize system disk well.
I've upgraded also two others mac minis (mid 2010) with standard 10.6.7 version (no server) and a macbook and a macbook pro without problems (but i've not tried time machine on them).
Thanks in advance for any help!

I know the problems with Time Machine on Mac OS server. In your case: Look at the log files, searching for "backupd", if that tells you anything.
In my case, Time Machine in the last year stopped several times. Occasionally, there was a helpful message in the log files where I could identify a file where it had hung -- typically intermediate build results of Xcode. After excluding or deleting the offending files (where possible), Time Machine ran successfully.
Another situation which has repeatedly occurred is that time machine just hangs and does not progress, and no log entry helps. In 3 such cases what helped was to delete the spotlight index (e.g., with TinkerTool System) and let it rebuild. It took inordinately long (10 hrs) and there were log entries by mdworker that it had difficulty processing files. But when the spotlight index was finally rebuilt, Time Machine worked again.
BTW: I don't need Time Machine to backup the server system, for that I run mirrors etc., but for user files it is most convenient and has helped several times. Thus I have excluded nearly everything but /User/*.

  • Time Machine not working as supposed to.

The other day i made changes that i wanted to "roll back". So i selected a date 1 day earlier and restored to that date. After the system rebooted it took the next 18 hours creating a new " image " in time machine.
There was no way to stop this.
Now i lost about 6 months of priors backup points.
Before i have restored from time machine(about a year ago or longer) and it was slick and painless. The computer was ready to use immediately and it did not recreate a whole disk image.
If i restored to an earlier time, it should not have to do a full time machine backup because there is already the original one.
--my time machine disk did not change.
Are others having this issue and is apple recognizing that time machine is screwing up.

    freak111 wrote:
thanks, i know that was the issue, but its a stupid setup.
And it seems odd that the article says "may". They should know what the software will do.
I think that what they were trying to do (which works sometimes) is, if you restore the +*most recent+* backup, it may not do a full backup the next time. But every time I've seen it do that, it has made room for a full backup first, so may delete old backups anyway.
What if 1 day before didnt resolve my issue, and i needed to go back 100 days. Now that time has been overwritten and lost. And worse if this happens everytime i restore, and 2 restore points were needed.
You don't necessarily lose any backups; backups may be deleted only because TM needs so much space for the next one, and it deletes the oldest ones first, regardless of which one you restored.
And multiple restores will only cause multiple full backups if you do a backup after the first restore.
But don't hesitate to tell Apple about it here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/timemachine.html

  • Time Machine not working after Restore.

Yesterday, for reasons I could not ascertain, OS X died on me. After much fannying about, I put in my Leopard install disc and restored the OS from a Time Machine backup. No problems at all. Good job Apple. Apart from a few stray emails, everything worked as far as I could tell.
Except, Time Machine no longer works. Backups are failing and I'm not sure why… can anyone help?
