Authorizing more than 5 devices with iTunes Match

iTunes Match is working fine on my home Mac Mini and my iPhone/iPad.
According to the documentation on the sign-up page, iTunes Match is supposed to support 10 authorized devices. But when I try to auth my work Mac, I get an error saying I have more than 5 authorized devices (the old limit for the iTunes Store). BTW, some of these must be old computers no longer in use.
I followed the steps on this page to no avail:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4913
I am afraid to de-authorize all devices and start from scratch since things seem to be buggy now. Any other ideas?

Their documentation is wrong in some spots.  The limit is 10 devices total but only five computers.  You should be able to do "deauthorize all computers" under your account in the iTunes store to free up the ones on old retired computers.

How can you set up more than one device on iTunes? I have an iPad, iPod, itouch and iPhone. I don't want the same on all devices. I have all my music/videos on iTunes on my mac book pro. Can you set up separate folders for each device and drop in what ever music/videos from the main iTunes library?

In itunes it is called syncing and you can choose exactly what content to sync to all devices and it can be different for all of them

  • How do I use AE to allow more than one device with my cable modem?

I connected by AE to my cable modem at my house in Japan and it works fine on "bridge mode," but only for one device at a time (this laptop, but not my iPod Touch, or vice versa). As soon as I connect a new device, it will kick the other one off. It seems that my cable modem here will only allow one device. Is there a way that I can use my Airport Extreme to allow more than one device and not have to pay the Internet provider extra for multiple IP addresses? How do I go about this? Do I select "share a public IP address" or do I select "distribute a range of IP addresses?" I tried these options but obviously wasn't doing it correctly, because then I lost the connection for everything... Thanks!

It would be best if you "hard reset" the Airport Extreme to clear out the old and conflicting settings and then reconfigure it again.
Hold in the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly. Keep holding for another 3-4 seconds when you see this and then release the reset button. That will get the Extreme back to the original starting point.
After you have powered the modem back up after the full reset, you will need to reconfigure the AirPort Extreme again. If you are using he guided setup in AirPort Utility, you will choose the option to "create a wireless network" during the setup.
If you are using the Manual Setup, the Wireless Mode will be "Create a wireless network" and the setting for Connection Sharing would be "Share a public IP address". Adjusting the Connection Sharing setting would be the last thing that you do before you click Update to save settings.
Here, I am assuming that you have a simple cable modem (it will have only one ethernet port), correct?

  • More than one device with one iTunes account and one computer

I have an iPod Touch 3rd gen and my husband has a iPhone 3 (I guess; its not the iPhone 4). We have different music tastes and do not want each others music (sometimes) on the other's device. But since we both use the same computer for iTunes we only have one account. Is this the best way to do this? Can you have more than 1 iTunes account on a computer?

  • Is there any way to have playlists of podcasts on a device with itunes Match?

I use a playlist to organize my podcasts on my iPhone. This enables me to listen to all unplayed episodes without having to keep choosing a new one. However, when I turn iTunes Match on on the phone, the playlist disappears from the phone. The podcasts from the playlist still come over. Additionally, once iTunes Match is on, I also cannot add podcasts to any plylist - new or existing. Does anyone have anyideas on how to resolve this? Or is it something Apple needs to fix in the next iteration of iOS?

You could try using the Custom Geometry extension and see how that works for you. ''I have been having problems with it on WinXP since Firefox 4.0 was released last year, maybe it will work better for you on Windows7.''
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-geometry/
In Options for that extension setup additional Custom Geometry options ''(height, width, left, & top)'' with different offsets, and when you open an additional window use the drop-marker on the CG toolbar button to select the offset you want for that new window.
That drop-marker menu hasn't been working properly on my PC, but I use still use CG when running multiple Profiles - each with a different offset, so that I have access at the edge of the current window to "grab" another Profile when I want.

A simple question but can i connect more than one IPOD to my ITUNES on my laptop? I am considering buying a IPOD for my gf (i already have a video IPOD) and we only have the one laptop in the house. I think i read somewhere that you cannot connect 2 IPODs but wanted to check before i buy it.

  • Can I share my iTunes library between more than one device with different Apple ID's?

I just got a laptop and decided to set up my own Apple account apart from the one my family shares.  I still want a lot of the music on my family account but don't want to buy it all over again.  Is there a way for me to get this music in my new account? If so, how do I do this? I am looking for the best and simplest answer.

Yes, if they are not DRM protected
Open itunes, connect device, select what you want to sync, sync.
DO the same for your other devices.

  • HT201269 How can I backup more than one device using itunes? Do I need 2 seperate itune accounts?

    please respond to question above

Syncing and backing up in iTunes can be accomplished with multiple devices. They identify the devices based on the phone number, phone name, etc. The only way you would have an issue is if you were using different calendar contacts on the computer. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495

  • Creating playlists on iOS devices with iTunes match

I made a playlist on my iPad with songs that had yet to be downloaded from the cloud and then I chose the option of 'download all.' the songs all downloaded but do not appear in the playlist. I can probably go back through and add them individually but I'm wondering if there is a more efficient way to do this. Also, on my iPhone, the playlist appeared, but without any songs. And- is there a fast way to delete all music from my iPhone and iPad? I'm trying to save space so I want to delete everything and download it as needed. Thanks.

You can delete all music at once by going to Settings > General > Usage and tapping Music. Swipe across the Music entry and tap the Delet button.
What were the criteria you used to create the playlist on your iPad? That may have something to do with why songs don't show up in the playlist after you download them.

  • More than one iPod with iTunes

I have an iPod classic for my car, I'm thinking of getting an iPod shuffle for when I go to the gym, and and I'm thinking of getting iPhone which also has an iPod feature in it. Can all of these be hooked up to my iTunes account? Can I pick and chose which songs go on which? I really hate DRM, and it's the one thing that frustrates me about the iTunes/iPod situation, and it makes simple things like this an issue... I hope there's a simple solution.

You can hook up as many iPods as you want, and Apple would love to sell them to you.
+I really hate DRM, and it's the one thing that frustrates me about the iTunes/iPod situation, and it makes simple things like this an issue... I hope there's a simple solution.+
So don't buy DRM songs. Buy MP3s or physical CDs. You don't HAVE to buy from the itunes store.

  • With iTunes Match, does each library you enable on the same computer count as separate device?

I have four iTunes libraries on my Mac, my main iTunes library, one for Christmas, one for Christian, and one for CDs. Additionally, my husband and daughter each have their own computers with a single library on each.  Since we are only allowed 10 devices with iTunes Match (per Apple ID), including computers, I need to know if each of my four libraries on my Mac will count as a separate device if I enable each of them for Match. If so, this would cause us to exceed the maximum number of devices needed for all of us.
Also, if I use Match for all four of my libraries, is there any way to maintain my separate libraries without having everything from all of them end up intermingled with each other? If not, I suppose I may as well consolidate my other three libraries with my main library.

All the libraries you add to Match are merged together, so you may as well consolidate them.
In that case I assume that the first question becomes irrelevant, but I will try to answer it anyway. Whilst you are allowed 10 devices, only 5 of them can be computers. However, it does state "devices" rather than libraries, so I think that each computer would only count as one even if you have more than one library.
I haven't got multiple libraries on the same computer though, so my assumption may be wrong. If so I'm sure someone will correct me.

  • How to set permissions to allow reading on more than one device

Our base permissions restrict reading to one device for 365 days with print 1 page and copy 1 page limits. For a new book we're adding to our online library, we want to allow people to read on more than one device, with a defined expiration date (January 15, 2012) and no printing and no copying. (The "more than one device" restriction is intended to allow users to transfer the book to iTunes and read it in Bluefire Reader.)
How do we set permissions for this new book? In particular, what Read settings for devices do we use? No selection? The options in the ACS Console are not clear to us (i.e., the choice between A Single Device and Specific Device Type) and the manual doesn't offer an example. ... I'm guessing the selections should be none -- i.e., do not specify any device setting. Yes?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jim Lyons

What I understand your current side restrictions to be (best if they are in a distribution right rather than base permission btw)
    <permissions>

(these are looking at the raw permissions rather than the dialog in the admin console)
Which I would describe as allow viewing on the device which fulfilled the content for one year, and in addition allow viewing on any mobile or tethered device (Bluefire Reader iPad app, android app, Nook Color, etc...) until Jan 15, 2010 at midnight PST.  One print and one copy is allowed (and can only be used on the device that fulfilled the content).
