AuthorWare stops responding when loading a mpg file

I have a new Dell T3500 with Windows XP (32-bit). Other people in the office are able to load .mpg files into their AuthorWare project but every time I try, Authorware stops responding. I am using AuthorWare 7.02.
If I change the file extensions to .wmv, AuthorWare has not problem importing them. Windows media player has no problem playing the .mpgs.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and the update. I have tried this in brand new project files. I'm not sure what to do next.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening.

Unfortunately, I am required to use the .mpg extension when it is delivered to our client.
The videos import and play correctly as .wmv files.
Then it may actually be a CODEC issue
Try installing this codec pack:

You may need it, because Microsoft changed the default CODECs installed from Windows Media Player 8 onwards. Certain Dell machines seem to have problems with this.

If that still doesn't work, let me know and I'll see if I remember something else you should try.

First, go install the MacOS 10.10 updates - you should be on 10.10.2.
I haven't heard of Photoshop not responding during opens and saves. Does it stop responding while the open/save dialogs are visible, or while Photoshop is actually reading or writing files?
10.10.1 did fix a crash in the open/save dialogs, but 10.10.2 still has some odd issues (mostly program errors coming from the OS code) in the open/save dialogs.

I tried 64bit too but no changes. And the thing is that i need studio and i need to sort this problem quick.

The sample rate is not 128 or so, you probably mean the buffer size...
But the performance drop makes sense: switching between a 64 bit process and 32 bit doesn't come free: it cost performance and creates a jitter, which also either shows as performance lost or instability.
You really have to move away from outdated 32 bit AudioUnits, sorry. Ask the vendors to finally release 64 bit versions, it has been several years since 64 bit is available.

Itunes 10.2.1 stops responding when loading new folder from ex. harddrive

The last two days I have been trying to add new albums from my external hard drive to my library. Every other album it stops responding and I have to close it through the task manager. Music plays fine when I don't try to add new music. Sometimes it freezes while loading the songs, sometimes when determining playback, and sometimes when gathering album artwork. Now, when I start it with my external hard drive plugged in, it starts trying to determine the playback info. of the last cd I loaded and freezes. It won't let me do anything.
All of my music files are on an external drive and the drive works on other computers. All of the music on here opens in other music players such as winamp, media player, etc.
I have tried reinstalling itunes but the same problems occur.

Having the exact same problem.
But.... seems to have fixed it.
I disabled the option in iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->Unchecked the Add files to the itunes library etc.

Update causing programs to stop responding when loading

I wasn't sure what forum to put this so i I put it here...
anyway, I recently updated my OSX with the newest update and now I'm having a ton of problems. My computer seems to be running slower but more importantly several of my programs will stop responding while they're loading up. This includes the two I can't live without: InDesign CS and Microsoft Word. I'm a student in graphic design so these are SUPER important to me.
I've tried quitting all other programs, or even having my linotype fontexplorer open (it seemed to have worked once but not anymore).
I really don't know what to do! Is there a way to maybe uninstall updates? because my system was perfectly fine before @_@

Hi clemmontine, it was good you were able to isolate the issue to fonts. I don't think the issue is number of fonts but it's possible that one or more of them got corrupted.
If you have a copy of all the fonts in ~/library/fonts then just drag the fonts in the folder to the trash and drag your backup back in. Restart and retry your apps.
If not, you need to test the fonts a group at time (if your feeling lucky go for half of them on the first go).
You can also do this through FontBook.

Pages stops responding when I save a file?

Pages just spins when I try to save a file, started after the Maverick update. Any suggestions?

Do this:
1) Close all applications
2) Go to Spotlight (looks like a magnifying glass in the top right of your computer screen.
3) type: Disk Utility, when Disk Utility opens, select the Macintosh HD in the left side of th panel
4) Move your cursor toward the middle, bottom and select, REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS, just let it run until complete.
5) Close Disk Utility
6) Look on Apple's support site for an article to rese PRAM or http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 - Do this as corrected.
7) Then, open Pages
8) If this doesn't work, make sure you have tried different documents, so you can determine if it is document specific
9) Also, see if the behavior is the same with another user on the same computer.

After Effects CS5.5 Stops responding when I import .mov files from VideoCopilot

Okay so I have a personal movie project that is in my mind so I opened After Effects and wanted to import an explosion.mov file to the video clip from Action Essentials. It worked a month ago but now for some reason right when I import the .mov clip, it crashes... I have After Effects CS4 and CS5.5 and when I import the same exact .mov file to CS4, it works. First off, my system specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k CPU @ 3.40 GHz (8 CPUs)
Memory: 12 GB Corsair Vengeance 12288MB RAM
GPU: Nvidia GTX 580 Superclocked SLI (x2)
DirectX: DirectX11
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
After Effects CS5.5 Version 10.5, I installed all the recent updates, the footage I was using was from video copilot, I didn't get any error messages when I put the footage in, After Effects just freezes up when I put the footage in. I was using Adobe Bridge in the background to import the clips, but I also tried importing in a different way by just plainly dragging and dropping the clips from the folder, I have not downloaded any third party codecs.
I've tried the troubleshooting, all of the solutions in the link you gave me, but none of them worked, I turned off the firewall. You can see what happens when I import the .mov clips in After Effects in the video link on the very first post of this thread. But suprisingly, the .mov files work in CS4 but not in CS5.5.

Safari stops responding when I try to bookmark (and other slow problems!)

Two weeks ago my logicboard died, so I sent my ibook out to Apple for it to be fixed. Ever since I got it back this past Tuesday, my Safari has been extremely slow, but nothing else is wrong with my computer. Here are the problems:
- The biggest issue is that Safari stops responding when I try to make a bookmark. The popup appears to select the bookmark's destination and to enter the name, but when you hit ok, the rainbow wheel comes up and it stops responding, so I have to reset Safari, and now I can't make new bookmarks at all.
- It lags when it tries to open new windows, especially new tabs.
- If a new page loads that scrolls at all, and then I try to scroll down, the wheel appears for several seconds until it can load the rest of the page. It's as though it gets stuck before it can scroll.
- Sometimes when typing, it will also start to lag behind my typing speed, or if I try to click on a new field, it will not immediately allow me to type on occasion.
All these things have never happened before I sent it out. I have reset my cache, and I have tried entering the open DNS addresses in my networks, which has improved loading speed, but hasn't fixed any of these problems. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I can fix anything?

Try verifying the hard disk.
Boot from your restore disk while holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the C key. You'll see an Installation window, select English. From the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Verify. If DU reports errors, click Repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the disk you have several options. One is DiskWarrior or
TechToolPro If Disk Utility can repair any errors, go back to the Menu Bar, click Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't have a restore disk, try booting into Safe Mode

Hm... Strange.
I had reset the iPhone.
I tried disabling the auto-launch of iPhoto, and...
...when I plugged iPhone in, it started to freeze iTunes, but after a minute or so, the iPhone started synching. I found this odd because I had disabled auto-sync (I press Sync in iTunes when I want to have it Sync).
Now, of course, I do want auto-launch of iPhoto back on, since I like it for when I attach my digital cameras. I hope that when I set it back, it won't re-introduce the problem.
The restart I did may have helped. I resist restarting because my wife's account is often open and she frequently leaves unsaved files up, so it is a pain to respectfully close out her work and then restart.

I tried to install on the X pro on another machine and tried to convert also the same issue.

I suggest you bring Acrobat up to 10.1.2 by appltying the most recent maintenance.

Thunderbird stops "responding" when I try to enter a password why? this is new today.

As of this afternoon Thunderbird stops responding when I attempt to enter a password. The accounts have been working for years with thunderbird until today. I can open thunderbird in "safe" mode but that is not useful since plugins are disabled.

I ended up removing v 1.0.1 of "Provider for Google Calendar" plugin; installing v 0.25, then re-setup the Google calendar

Close all apps on the iPad, reset the device and then try the update again.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

AME stops responding when second file added to queue

I'm running CS5 on a 64-bit Windows 7 system.
Today, AME stops responding whenever I try to add a second file to the encoding/transcoding queue. I can add an .avi or a Premiere project timeline (either exported from Premiere or added straight into AME) but if I try to duplicate that item or add a second version, I instantly see the spinner and it the application goes to "not responding."
I have no idea where to start looking. Any ideas?

I have now done an uninstall and reinstall of the entire CS5 Master Collection suite. At first, the problem seemed to have persisted, or gotten worse.
AME was able to launch and load, and could get to the point of selecting a Premiere Pro project timeline to import, without issue. However, AME would hang if I dragged an MPEG-2 into the queue or selected a timeline to import, and then quickly go to "not responding."
I have an watch folder in my AME queue and I thought I'd delete it to see if I could do anything in AME. I was able to delete it without issue. I then tried dragging an MPEG-2 into the queue again and, predictably, it hung, went non-responsive and I killed AME. However, when I re-launched AME the watch folder was again in the queue. So I deleted the folder, exited AME and relaunched it. I was then able to import an After Effects comp and successfully encode it, as well as drag in some small MPEG-2s. Finally I risked importing a small Premiere Pro project timeline and it worked.
Right now, AME is happily encoding a timeline from an old, large and messy project that gets messier every couple of weeks.
My guess is that there was something wrong with way one of the files or projects I tried to import earlier and, since AME wasn't getting shut down, the troublesome item was persisting (and the problem possibly compounding) every time I launched AME.

FCP stops responding when exporting quicktime file

When exporting a quicktime file FCP 5 stop responding about 50% to 60% into the file.
Have all the latest updates:
In the middle of setting up for a DVD.
Total media lenght is 01:58:30
Thats why I'm segmenting it in to chapters so each file is smaller, average 10:00 to 15:00 minutes each.

writing the file to external direwire 800 drive as normal. In a folder I made for export. That when finished will be imported into Imovie for DVD export.
