Authorware Web Player Not Recognized

So I'm trying to use an online eLearning page for school and
I'm supposed to have the Authorware web player IOT use it. I
download it from the Adobe web site and install it w/o any
problems. I go back to the site and it's still not working. The
site also has a test page which checks your browser to make sure it
meets all the requirements. Well, everything is good except for
Authorware. The test page says that it isn't installed. I
uninstalled authorware, then installed it again and the site still
won't work. I even went to the Adobe page which tests its web
player and I get the error message: "The page “Macromedia -
Test Authorware Web Player” has content of MIME type
“application/x-authorware-map”, but you don’t
have a plug-in installed for this MIME type." It then directs back
to the Adobe page where I originally downloaded the web player in
the first place. I'm using a MacBook with Safari v3.2.1 and OS X
Leopard 10.5.6 HELP!!!!!

"I'm using a MacBook with Safari v3.2.1 (Browser) and OS X
Leopard 10.5.6 (OS)" The link that you provided is the one that I
have been using. When I click on it the download begins and saves
the file to my "Downloads" folder as a stuffit file. I then click
on this and stuffit opens it. I now get a file that says
"Authorware 7.0 Complete Install". I click on this and the install
begins. I click through the screens that come up and at the end it
says that the install was successful. Everything is installed here:
Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins >
AuthorwareWebPlayer-PPC Folder. I then try the adobe authorware web
player test page (
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/authorwareonly.html)
and when it loads I get an error message that says:
[Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in.
The page “Macromedia - Test Authorware Web
Player” has content of MIME type
“application/x-authorware-map”, but you don’t
have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be
available on this page:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveAuthorware
Do you want to open the page?]
This is the same page that I originally downloaded the player
from to begin with. As far as admin rights go, this is my personal
computer and there is only the one account, from which I've
installed many programs from before, and have never had any
problems. I have tried multiple browsers, Safari, Mozilla Firefox,
Opera, Internet Explorer:Mac (old version for Macs before Safari
was released) and have had the exact same problem with them all. I
have also gone to the elearning page after every try to see if will
work, and it also says that Authorware is not installed and
therefore cannot play the course.

  • Authorware Web Player won't download from our server

We have used the same code to download the 2004 web player
successfully from our server since 2005. Recently however, during
the download, the player starts, but it hangs at the point where
the progress bar with the label "Loading Files" displays. This
happens on a client pc that has no Authorware web player files in
Downloaded Program Files, System32\Macromed\Authorwa, and Documents
and Settings...\Authoware Web Player directories. We can download
successfully to the same pc from the Adobe server. I'd appreciate
very much any advice that the experts have.

Any changes to your server? Not that I'd have any particular
    solution if
so, but it's something to check into. Windows Server 2003
    needs MIME
Types to be added...but missing those results in specific
    errors, I
think, not just a freeze at the 'loading files' screen.
Can other machines download from your server ok? Could it be
    something
    specific to this client machine?
What browser on the client machine? Do any other browsers
    work?
This problem has been linked to popup blockers in some
    situations. For
some reason, popup blockers can prevent the web player from
    showing the
security dialog, which tries to show before any content is
    actually
loaded. Try turning off any blockers that may be present or
    adding your
server location to the blocker 'allowed' sites.
However, if that was the problem, I'd think it would occur
    while loading
the player from both your server *and* Adobe's server.

  • Download Authorware Web Player

    Hi,
I am trying to download the Authorware Web Player for
viewing of training disks created by this product on a intranet
with no internet access. Every time I go to download, it wants to
install on my home machine which does me no good. I do not have the
full version Authorware creator nor have a need to make training
mediums, just utilize the viewer. Is there a link anywhere to
download the .exe/.cab viewer so that I can through it on a thumb
drive and bring it into work? Appreciate the help.

Here are my suggestions, but the real solution is that we really need  Adobe to support this amazing educational product from the operating system vista and up and for any new browsers other than Internet Explorer.
How can we do that? I have spent hours on the phone and it is impossible to get through to Adobe experts able to create this solution.
    Suggestions:
    Browser issues:
It is recommended that you access the program via Internet Explorer.
    Windows 7 users:
Later operating systems have higher security features. Here are the workarounds: Accessing the Demo Program - When clicking on the Demo link, a pop-up appears asking, "Do you want to run the following Authorware file?" - Click Yes. The Macromedia logo appears. Next, in the browser, click on Tools > Internet Options > Security. Uncheck Enable Internet Protection this allows the Demo Program to open in a pop-up window. Restart Internet Explorer and return to http://www.nurseeducation.org/. Now when you click on the FREE Demo link, the Demo Program will open. Once the program Demo has opened, simply recheck the Enable Internet Protection box in your browser's securty settings. If necessary you can manually download the free Authorware plugin at Adobe.com If your computer is later than 2008, you need to allow Active X controls to download. Click LOGIN on the side navigation. A BAR appears at the top of the pop up page. Click on INSTALL ACTIVE X CONTROL. Another prompt pops up - CLICK INSTALL. Now RESTART YOUR BROWSER. Return to www.nurseeducation.org. Click LOGIN. When the prompt appears, click OK. You’re now able to access the program. Still having trouble? This problem may be easily resolved, by temporarily turning off the new security settings completely. Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > Select the SECURITY TAB > UNCHECK THE BOX that says ENABLE PROTECTED MODE. Now just restart Internet Explorer and it will work the next time you try to log in. Do re-enable protected mode after your download has finished by just rechecking the Enable Protected Mode check box. If it still did not work it could also be that your browser’s internet options must be changed to allow this player to be downloaded. If so, with internet open go into TOOLS at the top, then click INTERNET OPTIONS, then click SECURITY and then click CUSTOM LEVEL and then change Disable To Enable wherever it says Active X files. Windows XP users: If a new window does NOT pop-up, check the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Some Operating Systems, such as Windows XP, will not permit a link to open above the program, and instead will flash orange in the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Click the orange item to open the link.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Vista / Authorware Web Player

    Hi,
Has anybody been able to get the Authorware Web Player to
work in IE7 under Windows Vista without having to fiddle with the
default security settings (ie. without disabling "Protected Mode")?
I would be interested to know.
    Ross

Oh, Vista, I missed that part. Apologies.
I don't think many folks have upgraded to that OS, thus not
    many are
experiencing the problem...thus no one has explored other
    solutions.
I recall the previous thread. Was turning off protected mode
    the only
suggested option? Trusting the site which hosts the
    Authorware piece
doesn't provide any relief to the problem?
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an 'official' response
    from Adobe.
They seem to be pretty much ignoring all Authorware issues.
    Hopefully
that will stop soon, or at least next year when the supposed
    next
version is due (Q2 is the rumour).

  • Redistributing Authorware Web Player

    Hi,
On the FAQ Page it says you can't distribute the Web Player http://www.adobe.com/products/authorware/productinfo/faq/#itemD-2
Then I find there is a distirbuting web player page http://helpx.adobe.com/legacy/kb/distributing-authorware-web-player.html but the link for the agreement form to fill in is no longer valid of course.
So, can we redistirbute the Web Player or not?
    Thanks,
    Stephen.

At one time distribution of the Authorware web player was allowed after filling in an online agreement. I believe that option was discontinued so they no longer offer that option to the general public. However I remember hearing that it's possible if you work for a corporation that restricts internet access or in some other way limits end-users' ability to install applications on their own. I'm not sure what your first point of contact is in that case. If I'm not mistaken, Steve Howard is the only remaining ACP who knows anything about Authorware.

  • Distribute Authorware Web Player

I need to distribute the Authorware Web Player on approximately 1000 PCs within our company.  When I go to the page for Licensing and deployment of the Authorware Web Player (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14236.html), there is a link for individual users to download the player, but no license agreement for distribution.  If you follow the download link, and then choose Authorware Web Player 2004, it takes you to a page with an Install button, but no way to download the installer files separately.  Is there an approved method to distribute the Authorware Web Player, and if so, how do I do so?
(Additional information:  I will be wanting to do this via an SMS package.  PC's are running MS Windows XP Professional SP3, browser is IE7.  Domain users do not have administrative rights (and not all have Internet access), so installation by individual users is not possible.)
UPDATE:  I did find a separate link to the installer download for Authorware (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/authorware/form/download/) on another thread in this forum.  However, I am still needing to know how to get approval to distribute the Authorware Web Player (similar to what is needed for Flash Player, Shockwave Player, etc.), or if approval is even needed.

Steve, I need this too.  If you want to send me the msi, that'd be great, dropbox<at>wsesu.org.  Otherwise, what's the easiest way to build an msi from a cab?

  • I attempted to download macromedia authorware web player for elearning course but program hangs up

I needed to download two programs in order to view the course material for an elearning course.  I was able to download one but the other seems to be hanging up.  It states loading and goes no further.  The course is Macromedia authorware web player.  And it does not show a movie but shows "Loading".
Now when I try to reload it comes up at the download site  "loading".  Anyone have a similar problem.

      Hi everyone,
Just thought I would give you an update on my problem. I was contacted by the lovely Matt from Adobe customer care, who was right on the ball as far as accessing my problem and was as helpful as can be. I just thought I would post his reply to my email to let everyone here know that Adobe do have a customer care line and people there to help us.
    From Matthew:
    Hello bmw14,
First, if you send me your phone number, I can call you directly to try to resolve your issue more quickly.
With regards to the problems you’re having, the course book is probably indicating these older Flash and Authorware Player versions simply because they were contemporary when the book was authored. The Player teams put a lot of work into ensuring that new versions can play any content that worked in the previous versions. So my recommendation is to uninstall any older versions, and just install the most recent versions of the players. These should be capable of playing any content that was authored for use by players 5 & 7 ,etc.
Let me know if this helps, or if you’d like a call, or if we should consider the problem solved.
    Sincerely,
    Matthew

  • Ann: Authorware Web Player 2004 Helper update

    Hello Authorwarians,
A bug in my Authorware Web Player 2004 Helper was just
uncovered. It was poking a misspelt cab reference "awswaxd.cab"
into Authorware's OBP.INI file, which when then written into html
for web deployment of applications, would fail to call up the
    player properly.
This problem occurred from July 2006 when I updated the
product to handle libraries properly. Unfortunately, it was at that
time that I somehow mucked up the reference, as it was correct for
the two years previously. Since it's only poked in once, I never
caught it on my own systems.
I have placed a corrected version at
    http://www.clickcraft.com/ko/AW2004WebPlayerHelper.zip.
Please obtain it and replace the commands in your AW6.5 and/or AW7
    folders.
I apologise profusely for the trouble this has surely caused
a few of you. I only wish I'd found out earlier.
    Best,

  • Windows media player not recognized as a valid plug-in in safari?

on this PB 15 1.67/OS 10.4.3 I experienced some difficult in installing a piece of software, here's the thread....
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1360929#1360929
prior to this difficulty, I had installed windows media player to access video clips embedded on news web sites etc, and everything worked fine, video usually streamed right into the media player, not saving a file to the desktop, but merely playing in a window....
to solve the software install problem above, I returned to the apple store & they suggested and helped me accomplish an archive & re-install of the OS, and afterwards, the problem software installed properly...
since the archive & re-install of OS 10.4.3, my windows media player is not recognized as a valid plug-in by safari.
when I click on a video link (embedded), a seperate window appears that describes my need to install windows media player 9 for mac (and it's already in my app's folder), when I download the file to attempt re-installing media player, stuffit doesn't seem to un zip the file after double clicking on it, no app file appears on the desktop to mount in the apps dierctory?
if the video link is not embedded, I can cntrl-click and save the file to the desktop and it will play normally, but if the file is embedded I have no means to see the news clip etc?
also, for those video files that are not embedded, instead of playing directly via streaming, when a link is clicked, the file downloads to the desktop before playing?
these aren't huge problems (well when trying to view an embedded news clip it is!) but any help in trying to return to normal behaviour would help!
    thanks again,
    dave
    powerbook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

thanks for the link, but I wa really looking into making the win media player function as it had before I had to archive & re-load OS 10.4.3
I use the player infrequently, but it drives me crazy when I'm looking @ a news page w/an embedded video and can't merely click it's link & see the clip!
any thoughts on why I can't get the win media player sitx file to un-stuff and possibly re-install win media player to allow safari to recognize it as a valid plug-in?
    thanks again....

  • Newbie needs help: Authorware Web Player for Intel Mac OS X

    Hi guys,
Complete newbie here in need of assistance please.
I am using a Intel MacBook Pro 3.1 (early 2007) running Leopard OSX 10.5.8
Have paid to do basic computer Microsoft Office course via net. College still uses MS 2003 and so I bought Office for Mac 04 as I was told all
I needed to be able to do this course was to be able to open office docs via email.
Have just received the course book and page 2 tells me to download Macromedia Flash and Authorware Web Players 5 and 7.
Flash loads without a glitch. Went to Adobe-Downloads-Web Players page, scrolled down to Authorware player which lists both a compact and a complete version of Web Player 7 for OS X on Safari. But here's the kicker - it specifically states for Power PCs. I tried to download it anyway and
of course it will not load. So I am apparently up the proverbial creek as far as the course goes.
So my question is this: Has Adobe just wiped its hands of all mac users of this app once Apple changed to the Intel architecture?
Or does anyone know of a work around or another app that can help me out of this problem?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am supposed to have started this course and unbelievably cannot get past page 2!
    Cheers and thanx in advance
    Yours
    Micki

  • Does Adobe plan to release a 64 bit version of the Authorware Web Player?

I know that Adobe has no plans to continue development of Authorware 7. However, as a service to their loyal customers who have purchased Authorware along with many other Adobe products, it does not seem like a daunting task to convert the 32 bit version of the Web Player over to a 64 bit version. This would facilitate individuals who are using IE 64 bit version browsers to run Authorware developed e-learning products.
Adobe, we are once again at your mercy. How will you respond?

Will it be possible to make a copy of all the security settings in IE10 that will guarantee that the AW Player will run without any problems?
It is not the player that is the problem – it is the security settings in IE10!

  • 5530 music player not recognizing new songs

    hi all,
new problem for me. the nokia music player is not recognizing new music. it just files them under unknown. the files are properly tagged. the only way to get it to recognize the files is to format the sd card and put the music back on the card.
also after deleting music, the player still has the files in its unknown folder, even after updating the music library.
very frustrating as i use the phone everyday as my main music player. this problem has only turned up in the past couple of weeks, with me changing nothing else on the phone.
    any advise?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, just try up this found somewhere-
You can do this to rebuild the library as it is corrupted.
    Restart your device and then refresh your library. If this doesn't help then;
Connect the phone to your pc/lappy and put in 'Data transfer' mode.
    To delete the library files:
    - Ensure you can see hidden files in Windows Explorer:
Windows Explorer .. Tools .. Folder Options .. View
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
    - Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable in "Data transfer" mode
    - Find and rename (or delete if you're really brave) files with names like:
    E:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    E:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    E:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
(assuming the phone's mass memory / card has been connected as E)
Note that the folder names may be different and the files may have prefixes - eg: mpxv1.mpd could be called abcmpxv1.mpd.  Basically, you need to search under the Private folder for any files that look similar.
Now just refresh the Music Player library and the job is done.
This will take longer than normal as it's a complete refresh, but it should now work.
Please thank me by giving 'KUDOS' star. It will help me to serve you better.
Currently using N82 and 5230. Next would be N?

  • DivX Web Player not appearing in Safari 5.1

    Hey there!
Just a few days back I decided to go back to Safari (version 5.1, build 7534.48.3). However, the DivX Pro Web Player (version 2.1.2.264) refuses to show up. No matter the conditions.
I have tried disabling all of my Safari extensions. I have uninstalled Adblock as recommended by someone around the forums. I do have the latest version of Perian (1.2.3) installed. I have tried temporarily moving a few QuickTime components as recommended by Perian (http://perian.org/#support). I have tried disabling the DivX Plus Web Player HTML 5 <video> 2.1.2.126 alone and re-enabling it. I have tried several versions of the DivX Web Player (1.4, 6 and the latest) I have tried everything mentioned above in both 32bit and 64bit mode. I have restarted my computer a bunch of times between the changes, just in case it would make a difference.
It works perfectly fine within Mozilla Firefox (version 5.0.1) and Google Chrome (version 13.0.782.107 beta).

Any help whatsoever is highly appreciated. I realise this may not be a direct issue of Safari, but could rather be an issue of the DivX Web Player, thus me posting this both here and through a ticket to the DivX support.
    Thank you very much,
    Chris.

I have the same issue since updating to Lion / Safari 5.1!
The plugin worked fine before in 32-bit Mode.
There's nothing on the internet on this issue altough it seems this problem occurs on any Lion machine. I have encountered the same problem on a new MacBookAir that came with Lion preinstalled. So I'm guessing it has nothing to do with updating from Snow Leopard to Lion.
    Any help greatly appreciated!!!
