Auto Back Up?

I got a message that my start up drive was full. After looking around I found that my iTunes folder on my external drive was being saved (duplicated) on my startup drive. So I started getting rid of the files from the start up drive and trashed them. When I woke up this morning I found they're, all back again. How do turn this off?
Thanks

Thanks for your answer. By ages I don't mean 2 minutes, but a lot longer. This morning I'm not sure, but I stopped it after at least half an hour. Tonight I tried to synchronize again and have dinner, a shower and saw it was still doing a backup (for more than an hour). Before this I deleted the backup file as you said. I have the biggest problem with the fact that i tunes makes a backup, if I want it or not. I just want to be able to turn it off! The way you can with other devices.
Anybody knows if this is possible?
I don't want to restore my ipod at this moment, because I don't have other problems.

  • Time Machine Not Auto Backing Up

Hey guys, I'm having some issues with my Time Machine. Its no longer auto backing up. It will backup fine if I manually start it but it won't do it on its own anymore, it hasn't for the past 2 days on 2 of my computers. I've tried repairing permissions and disable and re-enabling, **** even switch drives and then switch back. There are no error messages in console literally nothing happens. When it changes to the time its supposed to do a backup it will just jump ahead an hour without even preparing a backup without doing anything. One of my friends suggested I format the drive and start fresh and as much as that may work, it really defeats the purpose of having backups if I wipe them all out. I need them so can someone shed some light on this for me its driving me insane.
This all started to happen after the latest Time Machine update.

I think I might have solved it. When messing around in Terminal I noticed the permissions for the backups auto plist were different than the others. Repairing permissions with disk utility didn't do anything so I manually changed it with the Terminal command below. I'll post back later if I can confirm it worked. For anyone else with the same problem here are the commands you need to do in Terminal.
    ls -la /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd*
Copy that entire line including the * at the end. That will give you the details on your backup plists, permissions and dates modified. They should all match, if they don't this next command will fix that.
    sudo chown root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist
After you copy and paste that, it will ask for your password. From there I suggest you reboot for safe measure and you can double check by running the first Terminal command again to make sure the permissions were actually changed. This should fix it for anyone else experiencing the same problems as I was.

I like the idea of auto back-up for my new iMac, Ipad and PC Netbook, particularly if I can access all files and data stored on any device.  But I have a Conceptronic router.
    1. Will Time Capsule work with this and how?
    2. Can my printer USB be plugged in and then shared between the devices?
    3. Can I create a network and how?
    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.
    Ray

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

Well first you have to figure out what is wrong with the machine and solve that problem first.
Your post is very vague on what occured, and there are many types of "crashes" it really depends upon what see on the screen and what the hardware does, we can't see it to tell you, so you have to tell us.
I suggest you run through these user tips and provide more information about your hardware.

If this is going way over your head, there are local PC/Mac techs that will assist you for a fee, Apple only does hardware repairs and is advised to use them if you discover it is, especially if under warranty/AppleCare.
Hard drive and RAM upgrades can be handled yourself or by a outside tech in many older models of Mac, but don't expect Apple to cover the new parts.

  • Using Deja Vu, How do I set up the auto back up?

I rececently bought a La Cie hard drive. It's a wonderful thing. So I decided to use Deja Vu to auto back up my iphoto files. Seems simple enough. Just select the file and it will auto back up when ever you schedule it.
OK, so what folder do I select to back up my iphoto pictures? I know what you are going to say "just back up the iphoto library". Well, I did. Then I went back to verify that my photos were there. For some reason I can't see them all. I don't understand the directory. It seems simple enough. There are folders titled 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 ect. When I go in them I see some pictures but not all. A lot of the folders seem empty. I can't seem to find the most recent pictures when I browse the directory through the finder. I see them in the iphoto application but not in the finder???
I don't understand are they there but i can't see them (that would be weird) or am I looking in the wrong place?
I know you probably think I am crazy but try it yourself.

    puppymac,
In order for the photos to show up in iPhoto they have to be in the library folder in the Finder. Sometimes iPhoto puts your images in weird places. It could be because it couldn't read the EXIF info for the image correctly, or maybe the image didn't have a date or correct date set for it.
If you really want to know where these elusive images are, try this out.
There is a way to find out where the original photo is that you have in your iPhoto Library. On this page there are iPhoto Applescripts. One of them is "show image file" I tried it and it does work for iPhoto 5. If you click on the image in your library window and then use the applescript it will open up a finder window with the image file, and you can see it's path of where it is.
    http://www.apple.com/applescript/iphoto/
Download the scripts from the link
Once downloaded, put the folder "iPhoto Scripts" in ~/Library/Scripts
    Now navigate to Applications/Applescript
In that Applescript folder is an icon that says "Install Script menu"
double click that icon to install the Script menu in your menu bar. You might have an item called ScriptMenu.menu instead. follow directions on next link
    http://www.appleclub.com.hk/applescript/script_menu/
It will look like a little black scrolled paper.
Or you might have an item named AppleScript Utility.app in the folder. Double click to open it and make sure you have show script menu in menu bar checked.
Now open iPhoto, click on a photo to highlight it
Go to the menu bar and click and hold on the Applescript icon
scroll down to iPhoto Scripts, then scroll to "show image file"
Wait for the Finder top open a finder window showing you where the image is.
Get back and tell us where they were hiding.

  • BT Digital Vault - Auto Back Up

Is there any way I can get this to update and UPLOAD when I want it to?
I have the settings set to every seven days.
However if for example I have a large excel file open (its about 6 MB) everytime I click on save it appears to automatically upload to the Fault ....... this is even when I do NOT have it in auto start up.
I would rather do my uploads when I decide I want to.
    Can anyone please advise/assist
    TIA

Version 4.1.29.0 on Windows 7 64 bit home premium
I use a much earlier version 2.8.2 on Windows XP.
If a file is saved, it only uploads any changes to the file, not the whole file. I have mine setup to check every 20 minutes and even with files of 20Mb, that change frequently, it only takes a few seconds to upload any changes.
The idea behind auto backup is that you always have an up to date copy of a file on the DV server. If you are only going to want updates every seven days, then you may as well simply use the web interface, and do it manually.
DV runs as a service, so to stop it, you would have to go into computer management, services, and stop the service.
Its startup is automatic, but you could set it to manual I suppose.
You could  start and stop the service using a command line
    net stop <service name>
    net start <service name>

  • What is the best way to auto back up from a pc to time capsule?

IN MY HOUSE WE HAVE ONE MAC AND THREE WINDOWS PCS/LAPTOPS. I AM LOOKING FOR THE BEST WAY TO AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP THE PCs TO THE TIME CAPSULE.

windows 7 will not back up to a time capsule. because windows backup demands ntfs, and time capsules aren't true nas devices (they don't include the ability to fool windows into thinking its an ntfs partition)
i thnk your going to need another back up utility for your windows computers, like maybe acronis or paragon or rdrive, etc etc
theres nothing stopping you from copying files back and forth from a windows computer to a time capsule, but when it comes to windows backup it won't work

  • HT201250 I had turned off the time machine auto back up and now when I try to turn it back on it keeps looking for a disk even though the time capsule is shown, do I have to set it up again as an initial?

I have been using the time capsule to back up both my iMac and recently added MacAir, it has been working fine but recentlky I had turned the time machine off on the Macair and now when I try to turn it back on it keeps looking for a disk even if I select the time capsule. Do I have to start the backup for the Macair as a new backup?

That happened to my brother earlier. He went into Facebooand then into another app and the same thing happened. he ended up having to restore it. Mine stayed with the Apple logo for a bit but its back to normal after pressing the buttons a million times. I hope you get your problem sorted. Goodluck!

  • Auto backing up switch configs

    Hi,
Is there any way I can automate the backing up of my MDS 9120 and 9216 configurations. Currently when a change is made I manually use the Fabric Manager to tftp the start up and running configs to a tftp server. What I vision is a script where when log I into the switch it runs automatically and backs up all the fabric switches to the tftp server or something simular.
    Thanks
    Sid

    Hello Sid Bartle,
There are two things you need to be aware of :
1 ) Your ftp server should not do authentication and authorization for the switch, otherwise scheduler does not work.
    2) To copy the running configuration to a ftp server, you should use the following configuration :
    MDS# copy system:running-config ftp://
without "system" keyword does not work.
I made a test for you, uploaded the running config to a tftp server and it worked well.
    Here is my config :
    # ***** Begin MDS SCHEDULER CONFIG *****#
    scheduler enable
    scheduler logfile size 16
    scheduler job name ekin
    copy system:running-config tftp://1.1.1.1
    end-job
    scheduler schedule name hakan
    job name ekin
    time start 2005:11:23:20:27 repeat 20:27:0
    # ***** End MDS SCHEDULER CONFIG *****#
Arthur# sh scheduler job name ekin

  • How to achieve "Auto Back"

    Hi,
    How to do this?
If one html page does not be activated (means the cursor
does not move in the page) for 3 minutes, for example. After that,
it will go to another HTML page automatically.
Is there anyone know how to do? Or give me some hints or
    example. Thanks very much
    D.L

    Hi Eric
Thanks for the info. I have used the passport before to dump a file from my old MacBook Pro, so it should be formatted OK.
Format info says: Mac OS Extended (case sensitive journaled) - which sounds OK to me.
In the left hand pane I find a list of HDs - under the correct ext hard drive (capacity 499 Gbs), 1 folder is listed, at a volume of 450 Gbs! - which I do not believe.
But going on that info, I cant therefore restore to my new MacBook, to check out the folder contents, as total capacity of my new MacBook Pro is currently only 250Gbs.
I have booked a genius appointment tomorrow at Manchester Arndale to see what they can make of it!
Thanks once again for your efforts and super fast response.
    Cheer
    Sean

  • HT1766 Where is my old backup stored? Because of auto backup, I can't see any of my older ones and with new ios erased all my data and it kept backing up the "new" setting

I plugged in my iphone and then itunes says my iOS was old and need update. Hence I update it to 7 where it erased all my data to start with, and it was actually backed up before it was erased.
After the new iOS was installed, it just couldn't restore the old data and instead it kept auto back up the new setting.  I called apple help line and the guy said whatever is on the itunes list is all there is. But because of the auto backup, the whole list is full of new backups without my old stuff. Is there anyone who can tell me whether these files are overridden or instead just not showing on itunes, and where can I find it?
    Thanks lots

When you restore a device, a new backup is created and the old backup has a date added to the backup name.
Look in iTunes prefs > Devices.
The current backup will not have a date in the name. It will show the date on right side.

  • Proxy changes back to manual from auto

Proxy settings changes from Auto back to Manual.  How to correct this issue.  Dell support suggest re-installing Windows 8.1; I saw there must be a better/easier fix for this issue!?  Any suggestions???

    Hi,
Are there any domain or OU level GPOs applied? If Proxy setting has been controlled by GPP, then the end user can change the proxy settings back, but after some time or a PC reboot, the proxy settings will revert back to its original settings, you can
contact the domain administrator if you are in a domin environment.
If this is a standalone PC, then another situation is that the system might be infected by some virus which insists changing the settings. perform a security scan to ensure the PC safety.
We can alos change the proxy settings via registry (backup your registry before making any changes on registry)
