Auto Brightness stopped working on my 2010 MacBook Pro

The auto brightness stopped working on my 2010 MacBook Pro (2,4ghz, 4GB). It doesn't do anything anymore. I've tried restarting. I've also cleaned the surface on the sensor to make sure there isn't any dust sitting on it. And yes, it's auto-brightness is actived. I've also tried deactivating it and reactivating it. I'm running MacOS X 10.6.4. since it was released but I've had this problem for only the last couple of days.
What can I do ?
Any help is welcome.

Hi Linhtran, in regards to your iphone charger acting up its sounds similar to what happened with my macbook I decided to go to a different apple store and ask the same question the man working there said that it was highly unlikely to get two duds in a row I showed him the receipt I got from paying for them and he set up a refund and then looked at my computer and charger he said it was possible my computer was responsible for shorting them out he then took my computer in for testing and thus this was the problem and so far its been working well, I suggest going to your local apple store and telling them what's been happening and if they keep giving you the same answer and still nothings working try taking it to another store, or it could possibly be a electrical problem at your home, the reason I'm thinking this is because I know that apple integrated some kind of block on there chargers to stop high levels of electricity getting to your phone and stuffing it up so if its working in your car that would make sense because a car has a consistent amount of electricity whereas in a house or apartment building you don't know what could be happening with the wires I would try getting an adapter for your country and trying that in the meantime (considering that adapters are built for the specific purpose of converting the volts of electricity to match your equipment) and in the long term getting an electrician to come and check it out, an easy way to know wether this is happening is to see if any of your other stuff (lamps, computers ect) are having the same problem. Hope this helped!

  • Audio stopped working in terminal app ( MacBook Pro retina)

Hello, just got my 15 MacBook Pro with retina a few days ago. When I came out of sleep mode, I noticed that the terminal app was not making any sounds anymore.
When I rebooted, it worked again. What would cause that?
Btw...before I rebooted, the volume up/down keys were beeping, but no submarine beeps in terminal app.
    Any tips,ideas ?

I really don't know - maybe someone will come along who will?
At least it's 'working' for your again - sometimes a simple restart will do amazing things!

  • Mac mouse stop working properly on new macbook pro

Since recently purchasing a new 13" Macbook Pro my mac mouse is not scrolling properly or responding to any gestures. I have tried almost every possible fix without success. Can anyone help, pleeeease. This is very frustrating. Feel like throwing this apparently useless mouse out and buying a non-Apple unit instead.

    Try resetting rthe PRAM.
By the way, "I have tried almost every possible fix without success" is not useful information. Without knowing what you tried, you will probably get a lot of useless information.

  • Home Sharing stopped working  ATV2 and 15" Macbook Pro OSX 10.7.2 & iTunes 10.51 (42)

I was working fine up until yesterday evening. I've tried everything from restoring and reseting the ATV2, restarting and reinstalling iTunes, turning homesharing off and back on again.
Also I can't use Airplay from my Iphone 4S or my Ipad2. Both problems starting at the same time.
I found some solutions for Win 7, but what about OSX?

Sounds like a lot of folks are having this problem with home sharing (me too) between the Apple TV 2 and iTunes...  For me, it seems to solely be a problem of the Apple TV as my iTunes Home Sharing library is always available through Remote on my family's two iPhone 4Ss and iPad 2.
Out of curiosity, is anyone who has a hard-wired ethernet connection to their Apple TV experiencing this problem of Apple TV and iTunes Home Sharing not connecting?
After spending so much preparation time before purchasing the Apple TV last week (Handbrake'ing all my DVDs over the past month), it is truly frustrating to see that this device is not currently functioning as it should.

How do I fix this issue?

Actually, it's just the javascript links that don't work e.g. javascript loadmore, void.

  • 2010 Macbook Pros and Leopard 10.5

I've recently found out the hard way that you cannot run Leopard 10.5 on a new Macbook Pro (2010 models). I sold off my old MBP (17" - 2006 model - Core Duo 2.16) and recently purchased a brand new MBP 17" Intel Core i7. I tried installing 10.5 on the internal hard drive. I tried booting from external hard drive with the 10.5 OS installed. Yesterday, I confirmed (after calling Apple Support) that the new 2010 MBP models will not run any old version of OSX - they will only run 10.6.4 and higher.
The reason why I would like to be running Leopard 10.5: so I can use some ExpressCard/34 adaptors I have - namely, the Duel Adaptor (a Panasonic P2 card reader). It is quite frustrating to find that the tools I've been using in my video work flow for years have come to a complete halt because I bought a brand new computer - a brand new computer with the same ports and connectivity as my previous computer... but with a newer, incompetent OS.
    My questions:
Is there a list of ExpressCard/34 devices that DO work on the 2010 MBP's with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 (even if you have to download the drivers)?
Is there a version of Leopard 10.5 that has been reprogrammed to work on the 2010 Macbook Pros with the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors?

Murat Lahur - Thanks for the research. That's all I could find as well.
rkaufmann87 - Thank you. I've heard rumors of hacked and/or manipulated versions of OSX, however, I've never seen one.
OrangeMarlin - Incompetent only in the sense that the Apple motto we love, "plug and play on a mac", seems untrue with so many drivers dropped, unsupported or unavailable for Snow Leopard. I have all the available drivers for P2 installed. I can read P2 cards by plugging the camera into the computer via firewire. However, plugging the camera into the computer to download footage means that the camera is tied to the computer. It was wonderful having a ExpressCard P2 card reader that downloaded the cards faster than firewire and kept the camera free for shooting on busy days.
As far as my research has shown, there is no 54 to 34 ExpressCard adapter that works with Snow Leopard. Therefore, Snow Leopard has seriously slowed my work flow and left me with useless devices.

  • F2 button for brightness won't work on 2010 MacBook Pro

I have a mid year 2010 MacBook Pro utilizing Mountain Lion 10.8.3 OSX.  For some reason the F1 and F2 buttons are not working for brightness.  Maybe I turned something off by mistake? If I hit F5 it shows a circle with a line in it like it is off or locked.  Any ideas how to get the brightness to work again?  Trying to avoid the Genius Bar if possible.  Any ideas?

    Morning Alison Mcshane,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for many low-level functions on Intel-based Macs.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but display is sooo dark - like no backlight.  I think this is an LED screen.  Does anyone know the fix for this?

Hi all...  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill.  It still works but the display is very very dark.  A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light.  I think this model has an LED screen.  Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is?  Thank you sooooo much!

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • Late 2010 MacBook Pro 15", upgraded to Lion on Sat 23rd no external display does not work

    Hi all,
Wanted to ask this question here see if anyone might have a solution to my problem.  I have a Late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" which I upgraded to Lion yesteray.  Ever since that upgrade when I try to connect to my TV to watch a video no joy the image looks like the colours are out.
I have tried it on different resolutions and always the same.  Then for some reason the MacBook Pro split the screen in two.  So now I see the right of the screen on the left of the TV and the left on the righ with a big black line done the middle.
Priror to the Lion upgrade everything was fine.  Only since Lion has this been a problem.
I am using a Minidisply to HDMI cable to go direct into my Phillips 42" Plasma, and I have not got a clue why this is doing this.  The strange thing is it works ok on my Samsung BX2450 down the same cable no problems at all just the TV that has issues.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

  • Mid-2010 macbook pro mini display port to hdmi works only intermittently

I have a 13-inch mid-2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.10.2.  HDMI out from mini displayport to my Dynex TV only intermittently works.  The times that I have gotten it to work involves a combination of restarting the computer, unplugging the TV and plugging it back in, then plugging in the MDP adapter.  Now when I plug it in, the MacBook screen flashes black like it is trying to detect the external display, but no picture on the TV.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro?

How do I get my new 27" Thunderbolt Display to work with my mid-2010 Macbook Pro? Or am I SOL?
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:    MacBookPro6,1
      Processor Name:    Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:    2.8 GHz
      Number of Processors:    1
      Total Number of Cores:    2
L2 Cache (per Core):    256 KB
      L3 Cache:    4 MB
      Memory:    8 GB
      Processor Interconnect Speed:    4.8 GT/s
      Boot ROM Version:    MBP61.0057.B0F
      SMC Version (system):    1.57f18

You can't. Theoretically, Thunderbolt devices that only transfer video and audio should work with Mini DisplayPort MacBooks like yours, but it's not the case of the Thunderbolt Display. Its firmware doesn't allow it to be used with non-Thunderbolt Macs, so you can't use the Thunderbolt Display with the Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.
Instead, you have to look for another screen, or you can get an adapter and connect the MacBook Pro to a TV
