Auto-Brightness Toggle disappeared?

So I have been having the issue some are experiencing with the brightness of the screen not working the same as within iOS 5.  I have the problem where it seems to be working on the reverse process.  When it is bright out, the screen goes darker, and when I'm in a dark room, the screen goes almost to full brightness.
When I went into settings to turn auto-brightness off, the toggle is not there any longer.  ????  Completely confused.  I am also having the issue with the phone crashing and displaying the fuzzy/pixelated vertical lines and then the screen slow fades to black and then reboots itself.  I took it into the Apple Store on Saturday to discuss some other issues that I had and they completely restored my phone, and told me not to use any of my restore files in case of corruption.  So here I am, confused, lol.  Anyone having similar issues?

I got the same problem! The auto brightness toggle is not there any more. A full restore did not help! Tried everything! How is this even possible? Software glich or harware? The proximity sensor also does not work! Anyone?

    This is depressing.

    I agree.
What you can do is the following:
    For auto-brightness:
    Go to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper > Auto-Brightness > Toggle ON/OFF.
    For vibrate:
Go to Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on Ring/Vibrate on Silent > Toggle ON/OFF.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • Auto-brightness switch has disappeared?

So...this is kind of weird. I went into the Wallpapers & Brightness settings to adjust the brightness of my screen and there's no auto-brightness switch. I actually really like the auto-brightness. Constantly adjusting it manually is kind of a pain -- especially if I'm running and my phone is in my armband.
I tried resetting the settings and I just restored my phone. The switch is still gone.
Has anyone else enountered this? Is there something obvious I'm missing? That switch should be there, right?
    I have an iPhone 5.
    Thanks in advance...

    Hello Geoffery Stone,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I want to recommend backing up your phone to iTunes and restore the device, but this time, rather than restoring from a backup, setup the phone as new and see if the switch is there.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
If it is, then restore from your backup. If the switch goes away, then either an app, or a setting is removing it.
If it is a setting, then resetting all your settins should fix it:
Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:
Reset All Settings:  All your preferences and settings are reset.

  • Auto Brightness & battery life iPad 2

    Hi
I got my iPad 2 about a month ago and ive noticed that the battery life varies quite a lot, and seen many people complain on forums that its poor/worse than ipad 1 etc.
I suspected that the auto-brightness feature was the culprit so i did some tests, watching video:
Auto OFF, Bright room, 50% on slider     10% = 66 minutes
Auto ON, bright room, 50% on slider         10% = 51 minutes
Auto ON, dark room, 50% on slider          10% = 71 minutes
Obviously whats going on here is that the auto brightness (AB) is brightening up the screen in a bright room, and dimming in darker environments. But i didnt expect such a difference in battery life!!
I also ran the test just idling at home screen:
Auto ON, Very bright room, 50% slider     10% = 39 minutes
Auto OFF, Very bright room, 30% slider    10% = 82 minutes
So basically, I feel people who are experiencing dissapointing battery life are perhaps using the ipad 2 in brighter conditions more, because these tests show it can be literally half the battery life in a very bright room near a window etc
They also show that at a certain brightness the life is very good, even up to 13hrs or more! Good to know if you need a lot of life you can just turn AB off and lower brightness and get 14 hours LOL
    Any thoughts?

It really depends on what you are doing. If you are playing graphics intensive games for several hours, you may find that battery life is a bit shorter than if you are surfing or playing movies.
What are you doing generally and how long is you battery lasting? There is a small chance that your battery is defective but without more information it is tough to tell.
There are also occasional bugs in the iPad OS that will drain the battery faster than normal. I've found that when it seems the battery is draining too quickly that restarting the iPad helps. Hold down the power button on the top edge of the iPad for several seconds until you get the slider, slide it off. When the iPad is off (the spinner disappears) you can turn it back on by holding down the same button for a second or two.

  • Can't turn OFF auto-brightness sensor 2015 X1 Carbon

When I take my laptop outside, the maximum brightness actually goes down a notch or two (it should go up!) so I'm thinking even though I am manually upping the brightness to maximum, the sensor is overruling me.  Maximum indoor brightness is higher than maximum outdoors because of the sensor - go figure!
Is there a way to turn off the auto-brightness sensor on a 2015 X1 Carbon?
I've seen others with 2014 X1's say you can turn off the ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) in the Devices Control Panel under Sensors but there is no such setting for me in my 2015 X1.  I looked everywhere I could but can't find that toggle anywhere.

do you need to disable the ALS hardware?  is turning off Windows' adaptive brightness good enough?  if so, go into power profile(s) and disable it, see guides like

Have you tried a reboot of the iPhone?  Hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
My iPhone went to full brightness all the time after updating to iOS 6.1.3.  A reboot seems to have helped make it work as it should.  Also check Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper and see how it is set, reduce the brightness level it is too bright for you.

  • Auto brightness of iPad mini retina is not working after 7.1.1 update

Auto brightness of my iPad mini retina has stopped working after iOS 7.1.1 update.
The brightness neither automatically reduces nor does it increases as per the change in ambient light conditions.
I have ensured that auto brightness is ON still nothing seems to happen. Pl help.

I had to turn off website restrictions to get it to work.

  • Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.

Hello! Noticed that the Auto-Brightness on iPad mini Retina is not working properly.
It works correctly only when such a dark place, then unlock the iPad brightness will be at a minimum. Likewise, if unlock iPad in a room with light, the brightness will adjust to the surrounding space.
If I turn light into a dark room, the brightness slider does not move, and stands on the site. Checked on the iPhone 5S, there problems are not present. Auto Brightness is working correctly.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english!

iPad audio output does not work, except for on Siri. The mute button is not on, and the volume buttons have no effect/ don't work (unless Siri is open). I have reset the iPad, tried iOS7 and iOS8 resets, which didn't help.
iOS 8 isn't even out yet. If you are running iOS 8, I assume you are a developer and if you are, you are in the wrong forum to try to get help. If you are not a developer and you're running iOS 8, maybe that's why you are having problems on the iPad.
The audio output mostly works when headphones are out in, but has a tendency to cut out from time to time. Without headphones, Audio might start working again briefly from time to time, but most the time it doesn't.  Any ideas on what is wrong with it and how to fix it?
The type that I made bold doesn't make sense. Is this a typo and you mean that " headphones are not in"?
I did take it to an Apple Store, but the inncorrectly insisted that my speaker was bust and it would cost £250 to replace the whole iPad!
And you know they are incorrect because you get sound here and there from time to time? That fact doesn't prove that something isn't working correctly inside. You could very well have a bad connection inside the device causing this, but somehow you seem to know that's not the case.

  • The auto-brightness of my iPhone is not working, and my system is really unstable. What is Apple going to do about those bugs?

I would like to know when Apple will fix these terrible bugs of the last software updates. My phone isn't working properly. I'm considering the idea of getting another smartphone...

If your system is unstable, you should consider restoring your device through itunes to get a fresh version of the operating system.
If your auto-brightness isn't working, it's possible that there is an issue with your phone's ambient light sensor which is hardware and not affected by an iOS update
Are you using a case? if so, it's possible that you're using one that was made for an iPhone 4 instead of a 4S which has an ambient light sensor that is a few millimeters to the left, so some iPhone 4 cases could cover it slightly, causing the ambient light sensor to not work as affectively

Resetting may help.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.
You only want to do this if your iPhone won't turn on or off and is completely frozen. Instead, try Resetting all settings in Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
I completely disagree.  Reset All Settings (your suggestion) would reset the OP's preferences and settings.  By contrast, resetting the iPhone (as I suggest) changes no preferences, settings, or any other data.  It simply starts the iPhone over, with no data loss.

  • Auto brightness not working in iOS 5.0.1

  • Auto brightness not working in ios6

I updated my iPad (3rd gen) to ios6, but when the update is complete i found that the auto brightness not working, when i use the ipad on dark room the brightness not changing, when i use ios5.1 it changing.. Any solution and actually the problem is on ios or in the hardware? Looking for help asap...

Well my device is different and since it is a iPhone 5, it is not being updated to iOS 6 but the issue is exactly the same. From my mind this could be up to software but also could be from an hardware issue. The thing is that even if it worked before iOS 6 for you the new software could have revealed hardware conflicts since the software interacts different with the hardware for some features. This would be the worst case scenario because I know that normally iPhone 4 devices if not the 8GB model will be out of warranty. For me this is just a small issue since my warranty is still one year :(
I have contacted apple care for this issue and have get the info that it will be escalated to the engineering team, for further investigation. As I know there was also an issue with some proximity sensors at the beginning if the iPhone 4 models and I think there was an software fix for a lot of them. Hope for the best!!!
I have also done a lot of Troubleshooting, reseted settings, content and settings, restored in dfu and recovery mode, restored with new .ipsw (iPhone OS), restored on different pc (so even this step gas downloaded a totally new .ipsw file), first on a Mac!
Next step wis that I will let the battery drain low entirely, a Troubleshooting idea of an friend. This might empower the entire hardware for a restart. I am not really believing in this step but I will give it a try :)
