Auto cap lock update...

I submitted a post earlier in the week in regards to the auto cap button not engaging when texting a new person only when replying to that person. What I've noticed is that the cursor is not fully set back to the far left or beginning of the page, therefore the auto cap for beginning paragraphs or sentences does not engage. I don't understand why this is happening but it started after the most recent update with the "iTunes" widget. So basically when you've picked the person you want to text to & want to start texting the cursor is starting...

I'm also noticing other little "gremlins" such as the little + button when adding a person to text is gone!! I have to tap the To: area & then it re appears!?! Another annoying thing is sometimes I get error messages when sending but when I cancel the text exit back to the home page & then try to re text the same person it works!?!?

Have you tried a reset? If that doesn't work ...back up everything and restore. I've also read that it you reinstall the latest update it corrects some things. And there is always the Applecare.

Key board Caps Lock

I can't get my caps lock to function. It will auto caps lock at the begining of each line and after a period. I can cap a letter but I double click and it wont turn blue and lock the cap on. Any ideas???

HT1192 caps lock function does not work after latest update

Hi there,
I have a Macbook 13" Early 2011 and recently after updating my operating system to Mac OS X 10.7.4, i have found that the caps lock button isn't functioning.
At present if i hold or press the button, it is failing to light up or function at all.
Is there a fix for this issue, as i have read that there was an update by Apple to stop accidental pressing of this key, however not being able to access its function at all seems to be unusual.
Your thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated,

My Macbook Pro Early 2011 15" (base model) did this to me last night.
I did a PRAM Reset, the generic "Cure All Procedure" for Macs. It worked after, but I noticed that the button had to be pressed at just the right angle and with enough pressure. The light would come on and off and Caps Lock functions properly. Continued as normal.
I put the computer to sleep by simply closing the lid, and then put myself to sleep as well.
This morning, just before I came on here, my computer would NOT wake from sleep (a whole other issue). Would not wake up by pressing the power button. So I had to do a hard reset, hold the power button down, and press it again after...grrr I never feel good being forced to do this.
Anyways long story a little bit shorter, I restarted my computer and low-and-behold the Cap Lock is not working again. No Bueno, Cupertino.
No, sorry, no liquid damage on the keys, and I don't have kids, nor share my computer with anyone but myself.
Its one of the few things that bug me about this computer. The other is the issue of the computer not being able to wake from sleep. Too often.

I have 2nd gen Ipad which I recently updated to ios 6.1.2 and my auto cover lock does not work, so is the lock button, i cannot lock my ipad manually!!

I recently updated my ipad wifi only to the new ios 6.1.2 and initially I had the auto cover lock option which can be seen in the Generals tab, but then it stoped working!! Before the update, the auto cover lock worked fine. So after trying all the options, I then did a complete reset on the ipad and now its gone all together from the General tab!! I can no longer see the "auto cover lock" option.
It got really annoying when I tried to use the lock button and it wont lock the sceen!! To test whether the button was allright, I did a long press and the message came if I wanted to shut down the ipad. So the button works fine, but I cannot use it to manually lock the ipad. Now the only way to lock the ipad is to wait for 2 mins (autolock) and still I cannot wake up the Ipad using the lock button. To do that I have to use the Home Screen button
Does any one else have similar issues and any solutions pls!! Cheers

The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again.

Keyboard delete and caps lock keys not working after update

Shortly after a windows update two keys, delete and caps lock do not work. I have tried the following
1. system restore..it says it cannot restore as a file is missing. I have used this function before without any problem.
2. Update key board driver (standard PS/2)..it says latest version is installed.
3. Uninstall and reinstall.
4. Reset using the remove batteryt hold down power key option.
The caps lock and delete does not work in Notepad or MS Word.
It seems unlikely that the two keys themselves are damaged as it is unlikely that they would both fail at the same time and the problem after the windows undate is suspicious.
I am using Windows 7 Home premium on a 64 bit HP G62.

Here's another test...since your laptop has USB ports get or borrow a USB keyboard and try it and if all those keys work and test then the results would mean your laptop keyboard has stop functioning as least you narrow done the problem.

E90 Auto Caps and CAPS lock

Hi guys
There seems to be some strange modes that you can get by pressing both shift keys, or Chr Shift, but I haven't worked them all out yet.
Sometimes I get CAPS lock when I press both shift keys, but not always. Once I manage to get caps lock, I can turn it on and off by pressing both shift keys, but it seems difficult to get it to turn on the first time. It also gets turned off automatically at the start of a line.
Has anyone worked out how to turn off the auto-caps feature? I would really like to. Is it possible to download some software to do it?

Yeah, that's what I do now. But what I would like to see is a way to disable the whole "smart" thing. I don't mind holding down the shift key to type a capital letter... so why does the E90 insist it has to capitalize letters for me?
It's not a big deal, the more and more I use it, the more used to it I get. But it sure would be nice to be able to turn that feature off.

Since downloading update Caps Lock is backwards on my keyboards (both laptop and desk top)

I downloaded the the latest Firefox update and couldn't seem to log into any of my favorite sites. This was on my laptop. Now on my desktop I am experiencing the same thing.
My login is fine because I select from the dropdown menu. But if I have not saved my password for sites like my bank account etc. I cannot log in. I finally figured out it was the key board setting. With caps lock on lowercase, but with caps lock off upper case!
IMPORTANT NOTE: laptop is Windows 7, Desktop is Linix!

In two years of daily participation in these forums, I don't recall ever seeing this reported before. So no, it isn't a "known problem". I think what I'd do in your shoes is sit down and type a couple of pages of text while sitting on my left hand, to completely disrupt all my typing habits and force me to do everything with my right hand. If the problem continued to occur under those circumstances, I'd figure it was real and probably a keyboard fault. If not, I'd pay closer attention to my left hand when typing.

Updating caps lock and num lock status

I need to keep track of the status of the caps lock and num lock keys in a status bar of my frame.
I get the current status with a code like this

The code is invoked when any of the caps lock and num lock keys are pressed (while the window has the focus) and when the window is activated. This code works while the window has the focus (i.e. the status of the keys if correctly tracked). It does not work correctly when the window is activated.
Specifically the following scenario fails:
- The window has focus and the state of the keys if correctly reported by the code above (say caps lock up, num lock
up);
- The window loses focus, i.e., another (non java) window gains the focus;
- The user presses any of the two keys (say the caps lock key);
- The window regains focus.
When the latter event happens the code above is invoked (as a consequence of the window being activated) but it continues to report the status of the keys at the time the focus was lost by the window (caps lock up, num lock up).
It seems that the toolkit does not automatically updates its internal status if a key is pressed when the java window does not have the focus. If I press the caps lock key (so that it returns to the up state) after the window has regained focus the status is updated and the new state is correctly reported. I need to manually realign the status by pressing the keys to have them correctly reported by the toolkit.
Some ideas on how to have correct key status even after the window looses the focus?

the only is though it is not sensing the keyStrokes but if window looses focus because of another window gains focus it changes the values when it get focus next by ne means.
Provide a short executable code might be the problem lies there.

Y2P dim screen, caps lock indicator stuck on. Already disabled adaptive brighness... Warranty?

Hi guys. Recently bought my second Y2P, this one second hand.
Reason being my previous one was the 4GB i5 model, this one is the 8GB i7
Now I've noticed a few things when I compare them. Firstly, and most annoyingly, the screen on this one is significantly dimmer than on my previous one. When I put it it max brightness it's only a little brighter than half way on my older one. When I put the brightness all the way down the screen turns off...
I''ve already disabled auto dim in the battery settings, windows setting AND intel graphics control panel so I'm sure it's not down to that. I'm running the updated BIOS on both the systems also. This is unbelievably frustrating.
Another annoying thing is that the CAPS lock indicator light is always on. Apart from when I press a button, it turns off whilst anything is being pressed (on the keyboard). It does this as soon as the machine is switched on.
BIOS setting have been reverted to standard etc and nothing seems to be fixing any of it. I have also done a full reset of the machine on numerous occasions. Nothing.
One last niggle is that I've noticed that the touchpad is ever so slightly sunk in (something that I probably only noticed because I have another yoga to compare it to) and there is some play in the touchpad which I would have noticed this regardless.
Is it time to contact Lenovo warranty team?

Just to keep the thread updated in case by any chance someone has similar problems...
I've contacted Lenovo who are saying it's likely a motherboard issue, I'll be getting a letter with details of how to arrange a courier to collect the system within the next few days. I'll let y'all know what comes of it!

Caps lock/scroll lock/num lock/ LEDs not working - instead pop-ups in bottom RH corner of screen

Specific details; p/n: GS066PA#ABG, 4 GBytes DDR2 RAM, OS Windows 7 (6.1) Ultimate Edition 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) DirectX 11.0. LED's were working but during one of the windows automatic updates they stopped working. I don't know which update. Now I get little pop-ups "CAPS LOCK: ON" etc (black text on white background). If I rename bttray.exe to bttray1.exe and restart the laptop, that kills the pop-ups in the bottom RH corner of the screen but it does not restore the operation of my blue indicator LED's. Can anyone help please?

I saw your post regarding the problems with the pop-ups and LED lights not working after a Windows Update. Most likely there was a problem with the update when it was installed. This Microsoft Support link will show you how to uninstall an update. Try uninstalling the most recent updates and the restart the notebook and see if the LEDs start working again.
If that fixes the issue then there is another section in that link entitled: I remove an update but it gets automatically installed. That will show you how to hide an update.

200n Keyboard - Caps Lock inverted = no numbers + all files highlighted

Factory o/s Vista Home + recovery CD
Faults occurred sometime after installing wireless printer. Computer left unattended. Son heard lots of beeping.
Caps lock worked but text was inverted which also resulted in no numbers. Selecting a file from a list resulted in all files above being selected.
Many things tried, restored to previous point, keyboard checked with MS diagnostic tool OK. Eventually keyboard stopped working (same with external USB keyboard) and it was impossible to restore using Recovery disc.
Paid to have system restored to Factory settings.
Memory and HDD checked and refitted. On final update, no 20 of 27 - bleeping and small Filter Key window appeared and kept on appearing 10/20 times during updating. Still both problems occurred.
Purchased new HDD and Win 7 upgrade
Installed XP pro sp2, could not type numbers in product key
Clean installed Win 7, Caps lock inverted and no numbers with Keyboard, USB keyboard and On-line keyboard. Again all files highlighted.
System Trouble Shooting – No changes or updated necessary.
System Restore – Error 0xC0003005
In Safe Mode – removed Norton leaving MS net 4, MS Silverlight, NVDIA driver.
Wireless mouse works.
Filter Key window appears sometimes.
Action Center – Richo memory stick controller incompatible, no card reader driver.
Can access msconfig but not mskey or msreg

[KDE 4.9] Using a shell script as a KDE shortcut - Caps Lock Notify

I was trying to create a small script to send a notification if the Caps Lock is active or not. The script works correctly in the terminal, but when I use the script as a shortcut in KDE it does not work ... I simply trigger the shortcut with the "Caps Lock".
Below is the script that I created:

Thanks for the info about single key short cuts. I guess it has never occurred to me. (Maybe because on a laptop you can't usually spare a whole key for a single short cut!)

S230u reinstallation and auto-rotate lock button

Some time ago (after switching to SSD) I reinstalled Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1. I have made a fresh installation as I could not get the image copying from HDD to SSD to work properly.
The OS has been working great so far, but the one thing I am really missing is the auto-rotate lock button next to the power button. It does not work at all and never has.
I do have the System Update 5 software for installing packages from Lenovo and have installed all of the drivers it recommended except for Password Manager and IRST which I do not need.
I have also manually installed the 'Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad' package which I expected to be the thing I was missing.
Is there any additional software that I should install or something that I should enable to get the functionality?
I know Windows+O does the same thing, but when you are in tablet mode that key is not that handy.

Unless that feature is available on the keyboard itself, then you probably can't. You either have to press the shift key when an uppercase letter is desired or hit caps lock.

Unable to use keyboard without Caps Lock on

Hi Guys, I gave my keyboard a little bit of a clean the other day (with relevant wipes) and since then my keyboard is not functioning correctly. It did turn itself on once or twice during the process, so I have clearly hit something I shouldn't have
The problem I have is that I can't use the keyboard without enabling the CAPS Lock. Without using the CAPS Lock pressing random keys, produces random effects (mainly functional things) and with the CAPS LOCK on I can type normally, just all in caps (for this I am using my desktop!)
Troubleshooting to date:-
Accessibility => Mouse & Trackpad => Enable Mouse Keys (off) always has been
Accessibilty => Keyboard Preferences => Short Cuts => Restored to Default
Accessibilty => Keyboard Preferences => Input Sources => British
Accessibilty => Keyboard Preferences => Modifier Keys => Restored to Default
I have a setup another user account but the problem persists in all accounts
I have tried other applications but the problem is replicated
I have rebooted several times to no effect
OSX 10.9 (all updates up to date)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh additionally the track pad seems to be doing slighly random things ie standard run click actually brings up sub menus!

You have tried quite a few cures so if these don’t work take it to an Apple Genius Bar for a free diagnosis and estimate of repairs.
