Auto click search bar in safari
on my old mac i could open a tab in safari and have it auto click in the search bar so you can just start typing instead of having to click it first. i just bought a new bacbook pro and it dosnt do it and iv looked through ever setting i can think of i cant remember how i did it on my old macbook
its hard to explain i actually work with apple and no one could figure it out. on my old mac and the mac in the store when you "Command/ T" to open a new tab and then "Command/V" to paste it, pastes into the search bar / you can also just start typing and it will start typing in the search bar. on my new Macbook pro when i open a new tab nothing is selected so i have to click the search bar before i can start typing its not a huge issue its just annoying when doing work and youre used to it always doing it

I've had my macbook pro for about 2 years and any time i would type into the search bar of safari it would always come up with a google search. recently it is coming up with a yahoo or bing search and not google. my settings for safari have it set to google as the default search engine so I'm not sure why this is happening. Can anyone help me fix this?
When you go to search something in your search bar , and you click in the search bar at the top , a drop down menu should appear when it gives you suggestions on smart search right ? , well within those list of suggestions in the search bar their should be a little magnifying glass icon in the corner , click on that and another drop down box will appear, then you can choose your search engine preference e.g. bing , google , yahoo etc. click on your preference and it will use that search engine when you search in your search bar. Two major bugs in Lion - Zoom and Safari auto fill search bar
hey there
every since I updated to Lion I've been experiencing two major bugs... zoom randomly stops working (the one where you press control and zoom in and out) even though it's set to work on the settings. Safari is also experincing a problem concerning the search bar. mine is set to google and whilst on full screen mode, it randomly stops auto filling as opposed to what happens in non full screen mode. I actually need to get off full scren mode and go back to it to make it work again. as to the zoom thing, I need to restart my computer everytime is stops working. any ideas ? thanx !!You don't need to restart. Quit Safari or logout and back in.

a not very serious but annoying little problem i have here.. all other websites display fine, but when i do a google search using the bar in safari i get it all back in some foriegn language. going to google.com and doing the same search it's all in english.. short of learning russian i'mnot sure what to do here.
using lucidia grande 13pt for viewing sites, with default encoding of western ISO latin 1.

There is also Safari Enhancer which in its system wide settings has the ability to change search engines.

(Chrome Like) Auto-Hide Tab bar in Safari Full Screen mode
Is there a plugin or some other way to auto hide the tab bar in Safari fullscreen mode like the way Chrome does?
This is the only thing stopping me from using Safari, it's way smoother than Chrome and feels much more native to Lion, but the fact the tab bar just keeps hanging there is annoying.
I tried the Cmd+I method mentioned in the community, but it only works when you're only opening one tab, if you open several tabs, the tab bar will show up again. It also comes back up once you exit Full Screen mode.
Thanks for your help !Hello myzzzl, this is normal behavior in full screen mode, you can set the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.fullscreen.autohide browser.fullscreen.autohide] in about:config to False, to change that, but if you do that tabs and location bar is enabled in full screen mode.

Chinese writing below the search bar in safari?
Whenever I open safari I see a series of Chinese words just below the search bar. There is one English word - iCloud - but all the others are Chinese. Why is this happening and how do I stop it? I have removed the Chinese keyboard but that does not appear to have made any difference.
You can remove the unwanted Chinese characters under your search bar by removing them from your "Favorites" bookmark.
Here's the way to do it. (Quoting from the Apple Support people): The Favorites view is create based on a list of bookmarks in a bookmarks folder called "Favorites". You may remove the Chinese web sites from the Favorites view by removing them from the Favorites folders in Bookmarks.
1. Launch Safari.
2. Tap the "Bookmarks" icon to the right of the address view.
3. Tap the "Bookmarks" tab (the one on the left).
4. Tap the "Favorite" folder. You should see the list of Chinese web sites.
5. Tap the "Edit" button.
6. Delete the unwanted bookmarks.
7. Tap the "Done" button.
Note that if you want to add your own websites to the Favorites view, just add a bookmark to the Favorites folder while you're viewing the website.
Also note that changing the language setting won't change the sites in Favorites. The list of sites is created on first upgrade to iOS 7. -

Try resetting Safari and see if that help...
To reset Safari, choose Reset Safari from the Safari menu.
From here you can clear history, empty the cache, clear the downloads window, remove all cookies, remove all website icons, remove saved names and password, remove other AutoFill form text, clear Google searches, and close all Safari windows.
You can do these all at once, or one at a time to try to preserve items you want for convenience.

Autofill in Safari search bar for iPod Touch
I have read lots of threads, but none seem to answer this question...
How do I delete previous search items in the Google/Yahoo search bar in Safari on my iPod Touch??? Autofill displays these previously entered searches with a drop down menu. There are inappropriate searches from previous users that I can not remove by deleting history, deleting cookies, or clearing the cache. Anyone able to help?!?
Thanks!Today 11/2/11 the YouTube function on my iPod & iPad1 are working correctly again, in fact, seems to be loading videos faster on my 4G Wi-Fi connection. APPLE must have corrected the glitch over Wi-Fi since I authorized iCloud access. Thank you APPLE for correcting this bug which was certainly 'bugging' me... KUDOS~!

How to type a URL if Google search bar removed for privacy
Because it appears that in Safari it is impossible to remove the Google Search Bar that's off to the right at the top without also removing the now connected URL Location bar to its left, I removed both. I had noticed that when I did this in Camino, I could still go to a web page by clicking Command L for Open Location (found in the File dropdown menu of most browsers).
But in Safari just now, when I remove the Google search bar that Apple has hard coded to be inseparable from the Location bar to its left, I find I cannot use the File / Open Location command (which I mentioned is Command key - L) and therefore -- is my browser useless if I do not want to document my travels on the world wide web with Google's databases by having the Search Bar up?
In other words is it not possible to enter a URL into Safari in a blank and open the URL Location if you remove the Google Search Bar?
Is the only way to get to a webpage after removing that item to use one's old bookmarks to get to a page?
Or is this a bug and is my "Command key - L" (Open Location command) supposed to be working? I also started to test this with Firefox but it appears my Firefox browser does not have this problem so my Open Location bar remains even if I remove a search bar and the removable search bar it does have is not tied to google in particular, I don't think, in Firefox even if I remove the search bar though I never use a search bar anyway because I don't care to go to any search engine unless I type their URL into my Location bar personally. That's just my preference because I don't trust having third party search bars forced into the browser design.
Is this really true as it appears that there's no way to open a Location in Safari without having the annoying Search Bar up? Is Open Location disabled without the Google Search bar?
If so, it looks like that, of my several browsers, the only one that won't allow me to Open Location (go to a webpage that I type into a Location bar) if I remove the Google Search bar is Safari. I am finding I can successfully extricate myself from Google search if I use Opera, Camino, and Firefox and select Remove after right clicking on the search bar.
Why would the industry be trying to force this Google data mining and surf habits info collection on people? Evidently because Apple would rather take the money from google for forcing google into our browser than protect its customers privacy? I hope this disease does not spread to the other browsers left for me to use. What a monopoly google is building. Too bad antitrust litigation is dead.
(If this is true, this is depressing to me because I had set Safari to be my primary browser. But it seems the least secure browser anyway (compared to using NoScript with Firefox) so I guess I'll have to avoid using it (except on those few pages that won't work without it) until Apple starts taking people's privacy a little more seriously instead of sneaking in more and more features that force us into an unholy logging relationship with Big Brother Google. And I'm disappointed in this development also because I used to like Google before I realized its lawyers were so dedicated to writing privacy policies that are as vague as possible and as unprotective of privacy as possible. I would like to use Google more if they would just stop taking 100 miles when a person gives an inch by using their search engine. I cannot seem to get Open Location (Command - L) to function if I remove the Google search bar. Removing the Google Search Bar seems to also remove the location bar to type into. This is not the case in Opera, Camino, or Firefox, so I am wondering if my Safari is just corrupted. Some possibilities:
The search bar and address bar are combined (i.e., there aren't 2 separate entry areas).
The Safari View menu has a Hide/Show Toolbar command.
Right click (Control click) on toolbar will bring up a Customize Toolbar command and from there you can drag the default set (or just the address/search bar) back onto the toolbar. -

Is there a way to bring back the seperate Google search bar in Safari? I loved the simplicity of typing "apple" and clicking enter in the address bar and Safari would direct me to apple.com. Now it takes me to Google, creating and additional step in the process. Does anyone have a solution, other than having to type .com every time?
