Auto conform sequence to clip?

So this new version of FCP is supposed to be able to conform sequences to the first clip placed in it. Which would be wonderful, something that I've enjoyed in After Effects for quite some time.
But I can't seem to get this to work. I've tried having the setting on 'ask' and tried it on 'always' but it doesn't ever seem to change the sequence when I drop a clip in.
Any suggestions on how to get this to work?
Thanks!

When you try to place a second clip on the timeline, which has different caratteristics from the 1st one a window should automatically appear asking you if you wish to conform the new clip settings to the one already in the timeline. You should then click yes!

  • Auto-adjust Sequence-settings to Footage?

    Hi People,
    Just a question:
I teach students how to work with Adobe Premiere Elements. In that way I expierenced a  nice little auto-message. If a user uses a projectsetting that does not correspond to the footage that he/she imports, APE9 give a nice little warning. Followed up with the question to auto-adjust the project settings to the settings of the film. Not only does it work very well, but projects that had a red bar ontop of the timeline now seem to have less rendering issues, thus, the system works a lot faster.
    Now:
I understand that when filming with a professional camera and editing with Premiere Pro, most users know what footage corresponds best with the sequence settings. But sometimes (...and maybe it's just me who expierences this), I get footage from strangers. Not exactly knowing what the settings are. Even if I know that the user shot the film using a Sony XDCam format, there a lots of options to choose from.
What would you guys say, if there was an OPTION (so, not auto-adjust), to have a standard sequence, then put any footage in it, and then click on the option (rightclickmenu -> Auto adjust Sequence to Footage).
I'd love it, but hey, maybe there already is a better way, in which case: I'd love to hear from you!

There is. Drag a clip to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project panel (that's the button that looks like a dog-eared sheet of paper). This will create a sequence matching the clip's parameters, and place the clip into it.
You can also right-click a clip and select New Sequence From Clip--that's in CS5.5 only, though.

  • Can't name Sequences or Clips - Seem to be in constant "Timeline" Edit Mode

I'm having a strange problem. I can't name sequences or clips in the Browser. When I click the sequence to name it I get the standard box with the words Sequence 1 highlighted in Light Blue. My cursor is there. This is normally where you can backspace and rename a sequence.
However, I cannot rename or name a sequence. What does happen though is that when I type a letter corresponding to a tool like Ripple or Slip, then those tools are highlighted in the lower right-hand vertical tool bar. So even though I'm operating in the browser, FCP is acting like I'm editing in the timeline.
I've switched keyboards. I've cleared up 20 gb of memory. I've rebooted, restarted, and cleared my preferences. Nothing seems to work.

When FCP rescues you, all your good settings go out along with the potentially corrupted. If you have customized your interface, loosing all that can be a total pain.
On the off chance that it isn't a preference problem, (and with FCP not running) first BACKUP your preference files, then TRASH them. When you start FCP, new pref files will be created using the default settings. If this works, BACKUP the new ones.
However, if trashing the prefs did no good - i.e. you still have the same problem, you can simply RESTORE to bring back your original settings.
No matter what, once you have a good working setup, the BACKUP command is a great thing. Once saved, you can restore your 'known to be good' settings anytime things look funky and you will not lose custom settings.
I prefer FCP Attic as it gives me the option to choose which preference files I wish to save and/or trash. With FCP Rescue it is all or nothing.
    Cheers.

  • Sequence and clip name keeps changing... Why ? Solutions ?

The sequence and clip name on a particular project keeps changing. It usually takes the name of of an audio file. Deleting the preferences, opening the timeline in a new project, making it offline and reconnecting it again, et. all doesn't help ? What is causing this ? HELP
    Mac Pro Quad core

    Storage - XSAN
    FCP version 7.0
    OS X version 10.5.8
    Quicktime 10 & 7.66 both installed
Anyone has a solution for this....
    Jp

I made the sequence off line and save it as a new project. Then deleted the preferences and opened the project..... reconnected the media. Most of the clips showed the correct clip name and the sequence name also didn't change. But a few audio tracks still had the old problem....
Thanks for the reply.... haven't updated yet..

  • Color Correction - batch apply AUTO CONTRAST to many clips in timeline

Hi, I am loking for a way to _apply the Auto Contrast to many clips at once_. I have lots of CC to do and few time, and I find that using the auto contrast (in this case) would be a nice start, but I do not know how to do it to may clips in one step.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks, cheers
    Steph.

It sounds like the OP is attempting to have FCP auto-analyze each clip that has this filter applied. While FCP doesn't do that, there is a faster way of accessing the filter settings without having to double click each clip. This requires the use of Auto-selects and Open sync.
Assuming the clips in question are located on track V1:
    - Option click the auto select button on V1. (This is the grey button to the right of the padlock). By option-clicking, you're automatically deselecting the other video tracks.
    - From either the Canvas or the Viewer, click the Playhead sync drop menu (located at the top center), and select Open. This opens the playhead sync between the timeline and the viewer.
    - In the Viewer, click the Filters tab.
Now, whenever you move your playhead through your timeline, the viewer will display the filter properties for the clip on V1 that is under the playhead.

  • How to tell where on the timeline or sequence the clip has been placed?

Is there a way that premiere pro CS4 can be configured to show where on the timeline (sequence) that the clips appear.  As well as which sequence the clip is in.
It would be nice to be able to see that in the project panel for each clip listed there.  90 percent of  Metadata there is of no interest to me, but this would be helpful.
I know, one should be able to look on the timeline and see clips but when there are many and several sequences it is time consuming.
    Thanks

Hit the light grey bar after pressing down the little triangle and the CTI will jump to the position of the clip in the timeline.

  • [TS 41] UI Auto Load Sequence Files

    Hi All
I had a labVIEW UI that could load a sequence file when opened (user could change sequence file at run-time).
However, when shifting TestStand from 4.0 to 4.1 (and LabVIEW from 8.5 to 8.6).
The VI still could load the sequence but all the TestStand activex control buttons are disabled so user could not
run the loaded sequence files.  I have no idea why this happen and guess it's about TS API changes from 4.0 to 4.1.
So how do I need to modify my code to achieve this?  (I know we could use command line but I'd prefer the feature
built-in).  I attached my UI (TestStand User interface.vi) and a seququence as a zip file below.
    Thank you

    Kirika -
The only thing that would cause the UI controls to be disable is if there is no currently logged in user or if the logged in user has limited privileges. So check the settings on the User Manager tab of the Station Option dialog box between the two instances of TestStand that you are comparing. Are they the same, and if not, what is different? Options include enabling Automatically Login Windows System User and create a default user for yourself. You might try disabling Check User Privileges and leave Require User Login empty, but I think there is a known issue where the \run and \runEntryPoint command-line arguments are ignored when no user is logged in.

  • Auto increment sequence

Can I do something like auto increment sequence in planning so that whenever a user adds new asset it takes a number from this sequence.
    Thanks,
    foksh

    Hi,
Create a member called Counter in Accounts.
Increment the value everytime you add an asset and assign the value after update to asset number:
-Make sure member combination for the Counter values is fixed to one combination only
    Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions)=Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions)+1;
    "Asset Number" = Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions);

  • Auto Increment Sequence Custom Field

    Hi All,
I was wondering if it is possible
to have a custom field defined as an auto incrementing sequence number?  E.g. Let’s say I go in and create a project for the first time, this field will show the value 1.  The next project I go to create, the field shows the value 2 etc. etc.
If possible, how can this be implemented using customization?  Can it be done in Project Online?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  thank you!

    Hi JSimoni1,
You can generate a project unique ID using a webpart, even with Project Online.
Please find below the procedure in EpmExpert blog:
    http://epmxperts.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/generate-unique-id-for-project-using-a-webpart/
Note that the code might need some adjustments to stick to your business need.
    Hope this helps,

  • Auto Run sequence under batch processing

How to auto run sequence under batch processing in a period of time, by scripting or any pre-installed mode?
    Thanks!

Because by default it is 2*sort_area_size

  • Determining duration of sequence of clips

    Hi,
In FCP 4.5 - I know how to measure a single clip's duration on the timeline, but is there an easy method to measure the time duration of a larger sequence of clips?
I realize I can look at the start timeline timecode and the ending one and compute the diff, but that's a bit tedious when you have a number of these to do.
    thanks
    'mark

In the timeline, set your IN at the beginning of the group of clips and the OUT at the end. Look in the upper left corner of the CANVAS. That is the duration between your in and out.

  • Command to Re-Conform a specific clip?

I have a project with many R3D files(Red One and MX). And it takes a long time to conform the media when I open the project.
I have noticed that conforming will stop for a while then randomly start up again like 15 min later.
I am having audio issues for certain files throughout the project some just have no audio. The box is there but no audio.
I think this is a .cfa issue, seeing as I have deleted specific .cfa files and sometimes Premiere reconforms that clip and the audio works.
My question is there a command to re-conform a specific clip inside Premiere CS5?
So I dont have to search in the library>app support>adobe>common...delete .cfa file etc?
Thanks hope someone has an answer.

    Thanks for the response.
I am aware that it is not supposed to conform footage that has already been conformed, but it is still doing it every time.
I am thinking this must be a problem with how PPro handles R3D files, or R3D riles from the MX sensor.

  • Equivalent for Create Sequence from clip in Extendscript

    Hi,
Please help me to create a sequence from a clip using Extendscript.(through jsx coding).
I want to create a sequence from a clip in same way as a sequence is made through GUI when we click on "New Sequence from clip".
This is very urgent please help..
    Thanks and Regards,
    Anoop NR

But before I grant this privilege, it was able to create the sequence from sql command only its like
    CREATE SEQUENCE seq_name START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1 NOCACHE NOCYCLE;
Is the privilege specially required to be granted when used from stored procedure?

  • Cinema Tools won't let me conform a video clip

I'm using FCP 7 and CT 4.5. I want to conform a 30p clip to 24p in CT, but when I open the clip in CT, the "conform" button isn't clickable/activated. However, when I open other clips, the button is clickable.
What are possible reasons that CT won't allow you to conform a clip?

Well, since FCP-7 does not work correctly or reliably with H.264 files, use Compressor to convert your source material to an edit friendly codec such as ProRes.
Once that is done, you can use Cinema Tools if you want to, and the whole experience in FCP will be better.

  • Changing "2 Outputs" to "1 Stereo" To Match Sequence and Clips

I'm using Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 on a Macbook Pro. I initially posted this question on the wrong forum I think (Final Cut Pro X) but can't figure out how to just move it here, so I am posting it here.
    My footage is:
1440x810, 29.7 fps, MPEG-4 Video Compressor, 44.1 KHz aud rate, 32-bit floating point.
The audio is set at "1 stereo."
    My sequence is:
1440x810, 29.7 fps, MPEG-4 Video Compressor, 44.1 KHz aud rate, 32-bit floating point.
The audio is set at "2 outputs."
When I drop footage into the sequence, it says the audio needs to be rendered. The only thing that doesn't match between the sequence and the footage is the Audio Outputs. I did select to have my sequence match clip settings when prompted. I've looked through sequence settings and nothing changed it, and  I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change "2 outputs" to "1 stereo" (or vice versa) without having to re-compress all the footage and then re-import it.
I also tried the "Match Audio Outputs" command, but nothing changed when I did that either.
I have this problem every time I edit and usually just resort to re-compressing the footage, but that can take days and I'd like to avoid that.
    Am I missing something?

I didn't record the footage, I'm just the editor. I can ask Julie & Brandy (the people in the video) what camera they used if that's important, though? They sent it to me as mov files on a disc.
These are the clip properties (is this visible? it looks so small in my window but the screenshot i took is way larger, hopefully it will expand)
    These are the sequence properties:
Also, even though it says 16-bit there, it says 32-bit on the browser:
