Auto connect to network disk

Is there a way to set the network disk connected the USB port on the AIrport extream base station to auto connect on boot up?  When I shut down the iMac or reboot the shared network disk has to be manually connected.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

td - thanks for the reply. i will try it when i get access to the machines again. i initially did have sharing from the Users/Shared folder, and it worked great - except if someone edited something while the library was open on another person's computer. then the database would be corrupted and would only open on the machine that just saved it (which is odd). if library is shared from this folder, will iPhoto 8.0.2 give a warning message and prevent access as the apple doc claims?
also curious - why then does apple say the sparse format is not required, but is recommended?
+From the Format menu choose read/write disk image or sparse disk image (recommended).+

  • MacBook no longer auto-connects to network after 10.4.8

I have a MacBook and use Airport to connect to my wireless router. It always used to auto-connect to my router upon booting up. Now that I've installed the 10.4.8 update, it no longer connects automatically. I have to click on the Airport icon on the toolbar and select my network; only then will it connect.
I have already read this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
and followed its directions, but it did not solve the problem.
(Incidentally, I do not use WPA2, just WPA Personal.)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    From http://www.macsonly.com/ , today
    not tested :
After we tested the latest Mac OS X update, v10.4.8, on our 2.33GHz 24" iMac Core 2 Duo, we added another user account for the long-term tester. But after a restart or cold start, the iMac would reconnect to our AirPort network but it would get assigned an internal IP address rather than one from our router so it would not connect to the internet.
This problem could be temporarily solved by using the AirPort menu icon to turn off and then turn back on the AirPort card. This was frustrating because the original user account on our iMac continued to connect automatically to the network and internet after a restart or sleep as did all of our other Macs upgraded to 10.4.8.
We tried everything listed by Apple in its technical support articles (e.g. Article Number 304482) and provided on other Web sites, including deleting the preferred network in the System Preferences Network pane and re-adding it. We even tried deleting every AirPort-related preference ".plist" file including the "Networkinterface.plist" as recommended on another Web site yesterday. Nothing worked.
Then we tried a variation on Apple's suggestion and it worked. Here are the steps:
Open System Preferences, select the Network pane and select AirPort in the "Show:" popup menu.
Set the "By default, join:" popup menu to "Preferred networks."
Delete the listed preferred networks using the "-" button but this time we did not add it back again with the "+" button as Apple recommends.
Set the "By default, join:" popup menu to "Automatic."
    Restart.
Manually rejoin the AirPort network using the AirPort menu icon, i.e. selecting the network (or selecting "Other" and typing in the network name if hidden) and typing in the WPA (or WEP) password.
Now every time we restart our iMac, it automatically connects again to the AirPort network and gets an IP address assigned by the router so that it also connects to the internet. [Bill Fox]

  • 10.4.6 FUBARed my ability to auto-connect to network at startup

So I was a space-case and updated to 10.4.6 using auto-update instead of downloading it myself... yeah, I know...
Anyway, now my G5 and my wife's iBook don't connect automatically to our secure network at startup anymore... we have to manually select our network from the airport "radar" icon dropdown list, and that's usually after a few seconds of waiting for it (or any other networks in the apartment) to show up.
It seems as if the airport software is looking for our network too soon, so it gives up, even though our network is visible on the dropdown list.
All our settings are the same as they were before the update...
Any ideas? I'll reinstall from a disc image from the previous OS version if I need to, but that's a bit of a pain. It seems as if this update messed with quite a few systems from what I've read in various forums, but no-one else has similar symptoms as we do.
Oh, and the aiport base station is at the most current firmware version.

    So, Will...
Your suggestion made me dig a little deeper, and I wondered if there would be another reason that, even though our network was the only preferred network available, our macs were'nt choosing it. I selected "edit" from the preferred network window, and re-entered the password for our network, restarted, and.... it worked.
SOmething must've gotten jacked when I updated to 10.4.6
    Oh well...
Hope this may help other folks with a similar situation.
    Case closed.

  • Airport doesn't auto connect to network

I have a new 21 Incg iMac with 10.6.2. I have Airport set to connect automatically to known networks. Some times it connects fine. Other times it shows no known networks found and gives me a choice of networks. In that list is the known network. When I click opn it the network password is filled in and everything. It them lets me join just fine. Why is it doing this?

Be sure to push the one network you want to the top of the list - remove any others to help that selection take priority.
System Preferences/Internet & Wireless...your existing Airport connection in the list on the left should be highlighted then hit the 'Advanced...' button - use the first tab on the left titled 'Airport' and take at look at the list of 'Preferred Networks:' - use the options as described to make changes, sort, delete, etc.

  • Kopete auto connect

    Hi,
I use NetworkManager as network backend and configure Kopete to auto connect on startup. But I still have to manually set Kopete to online after I login KDE and wireless network is ready. Is it possible to make Kopete auto connect after network link is ready?
    Thanks.

Hey a workaround would be to start kopete by this
trys=30 # how many times we check for connections
    while [ ! "$( LANG=C nmcli con show -a | tail -n 1 )" = "NAME UUID TYPE DEVICE" ] ; do # wait until we get an active connection
    trys=$((trys-1))
    sleep 2
    if [ $trys -le 0 ] ; then
kdialog --icon kopete --caption kopete --title "No Connection" --error "No Connection found"
    exit 1
    fi
    done

  • Macbook Pro no longer auto-connects to preferred network

    The title says it.
While my computer connects automatically to some (maybe all but one) of my preferred networks, it now does not connect, annoyingly, to the one I use the most often (let's call it NET).
I've triple checked that it's preferred and should connect automatically, and the computer remembers the password, so that if I manually select NET, it connects no problem. But:
    a) It won't auto-connect to NET, and
    b) If I turn my computer on, when it presents the list of networks to me, I have to wait for it to reload the list, cause if I click on NET originally, it doesn't connect, and I have to refresh the list and try again.
    c) Figured that might mean that it's just taking longer to load the networks and is showing me a list before it's actually picked up on the networks, but waiting forever doesn't make it autoconnect; it just refreshes the list.
Any ideas? This is a huge pain.

No idea. You could try deleting the file
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    ... and restart your Mac.
To find that file quickly, select the above path (triple-click the line), control-click to bring up the contextual menu, and select Services > Reveal. Drag that file to the Desktop, or directly to the Trash.
This will completely erase your AirPort network preferences, requiring that you select your Wi-Fi network and authenticate again.
What OS X version are you using, and are you using an Apple AirPort Base Station, or a third party product?

  • TS1398 Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.2 my phone will not auto-connect to the home WiFi network.

I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.2 and now my phone will not auto-connect to the home wifi network.  Each time I leave and return to within range of the network I have to remember to manually connect, otherwise it continues to use 4G for data.  The credentials are saved (all I have to do is tap it to connect) but just won't happen automatically any more.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Tried the reset multiple times. No go. Before the IOS 7.0,2 update my devices were connecting to home WIFI eventually.

when i update my software to 6.1.3(10B329)to I phone 4s the wifi is not working and not auto join the network that i have already connected to

First, grow up.  Just because YOUR phone isn't working, doesn't mean Apple put out bad software.  I've not had any difficulty, nor has anyone else I know.  And just how is Apple risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working?  It's YOUR decision to talk on the phone or text and drive.  Not Apple's.

  • Airport preferred networks no longer auto-connect

So I am wondering if there are other OSX users that are running into a similar problem I am finding.
I travel a lot and there are a few hotel hotspots that get added to my list of preferred networks.
But as the list grows, even by one, I no longer auto connect to my home network and now my work network.
I know how to clear up the problem but it is annoying that it happens in the first place.
I like to get a show of hands of others that run in to the problem.
    cheers,
    Noah

So I am not the only one.
I've noticed that if I connect my Macbook Pro to my home Network using Airport and then decide to move the computer close to the 4 port router and hook up via Ethernet (the need for speed), the next time I use wireless I have a **** of a time trying to get it to connect wirelessly. On one occasion I spent an hour trying to get it to connect and when if finally did I couldn't see that I did anything different. It was like the MBP was going "Yeah OK buddy, I'll connect when I am good and ready". Damit, the MBP nearly became a frisbie.

  • Upgraded to 10.4.10 and auto connect to last wireless network does not work

    Hi !
just upgraded to 10.4.10 and now every time I boot I have to select my home wireless network to connect. This while I have the option automatic join selected, which worked until version 10.4.9.
    Anyone else experiencing this ?
    thanks for your time !

    Well, well,
I downloaded the new Safari beta version and went (don't ask why, maybe insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result) to System Preferences->Network again. There I deleted my wireless network (as I did the last time), but now I got immediately a message about KeyChain (which I didn't got before, so I did get a different result !!). And guess what, now the auto connect does work again !
So, the upgrade to 10.4.10 messed with something that the beta upgrade did correct.

  • [SOLVED] problem in making a daemon for network auto-connection

I want to make a daemon that when I start my computer and my router is not already available, to auto connect to my router when it becomes available later without rebooting
So I thought in making a script and running it as a daemon which will hopefully solve my problems. The thing is I'm having a hard time isolating only the routers ip address. Here's how I thought the script should look like
    #!/bin/sh
    anet="$(ifconfig | awk "/router_address/{print $field}")"
    if [ $anet = "router_address" ]
    then
    /etc/rc.d/network restart
    fi
But although awk isolates the line with my router address it doesn't recognizes any field. Any value I assume to $field doesn't isolates anything so I could guess the right field (or fields) for the router's ip address.

thx a bunch, all I needed was ifplugd daemon. That script I thought about was a bad idea anyway 'cause continuous starting or restarting your network can't be good so I had to work more on it while ifplugd made everything happen clean and easily.

  • Can I restrict wi-fi auto-connecting to "preffered" networks only?

My iPhone is trying to be helpful, I realize, but I want it to stop auto-connecting to unsecured networks unless I've tagged them as "preferred". Is there any way to do that?
At home, there are some open networks that I suspect my iPhone is finding before finding mine, and so it connects to them and ignores mine. Naturally, I get better signal strength with my own wi-fi network, and I could very well have higher bandwidth too, but I have to manually tell my iPhone to use my own network every time I come home. This is annoying. Even telling my iPhone to "forget" the other networks doesn't help. It just finds them again the next day and connects to them (presumably because it finds them first).
Is there some wi-fi configuration setting that I'm missing that addresses this?

Your iPhone should not automatically connect to any wi-fi network unless you have previously connected your iPhone to the network.
I had dinner at a restaurant tonight for the first time that provides free wi-fi access. I had wi-fi on with my iPhone and my iPhone did not automatically connect to this free wi-fi network. I had to go to Settings > wi-fi and choose the network in order to connect to this network.
If I return to this restaurant tomorrow with wi-fi on with my iPhone, my iPhone will automatically connect to this network because I have successfully connected my iPhone to this wi-fi network.

  • Brand new Ipad not auto connecting on wifi network

I've read the old posts. I've adjusted the brightness and turned off auto brightness. I've changed my dhcp proxy to auto.
Same as everyone else, my macbook, ibook and iphones all connect to the network and access internet with NO PROBLEMS.
The Ipad will join the network, but will not access online content. Always times out.
This just started happening on day 2.
We all know this began back in early April.
I'm running a brand new Buffalo Nfiniti router with updated firmware. Again, every other apple device works just fine.

got this from the stickied FAQ.
iPad stopped auto connecting 5 minutes after non use. Then I tried this and it worked. Guess I have to do this every freaking time I want to use the net.
    Renew IP address
In some larger wireless networks it may be necessary to renew your IP address. Renew your IP address using the following steps:
    Tap Settings > Wi-Fi
Locate the Wi-Fi network you are currently using and tap
    Tap Renew Lease
