Auto correct email name

When I send an email via iPhone 4 through my Yahoo account, it auto-corrects my name as it appears to recipients in the "From" field.

In the Settings menu, try going into Reset --> Reset Keyboard Dictionary.  This resets all the previous spelling corrections and starts fresh.

  • Auto correcting my name

    I like the auto correction option, but my name is "Rob" and on the keyboard that is one key off from "Ron" so when I type Rob it often auto corrects to Ron which is confusing to people I send txt and email to and annoying to me. Is there a way I can overrule that particular setting? (it doesn't auto-correct from Ron to Rob however).

    You dismiss a suggestion by tapping on the little box which pops up with the alternative in it. If you do that it will soon stop suggesting it. If you type a space instead, you accept the suggestion.
    I keep dismissing it eventually it does stop, but then it seems almost at random it starts up again.
    It did save me from legal troubles however. I suggested to fiends that we ron a bank, as ron was not available we went for coffee instead.
    Here are some statistics. I found them on the internets so they have to be accurate.
    ROBERT is the #3 most common male first name
    3.143% of males in the US are named ROBERT.
    RONALD is the #21 most common male first name
    0.725% of males in the US are named RONALD.
    I submit this as proof that the name Rob rules, and name Ron is lame (sorry Ron).
    It seems to me that the name Ron should auto correct to Rob.

  • How do I correct my name as appears in emails

    When I send an email from my iPad, my name appears incorrectly, as if  my last name was auto-corrected. How can I change this?

    Glad I was able to help.
    Interestingly, solutions to Apple issues tend to be pretty straightforward, especially when looking back at them.
    For future reference, that's often the trick to figuring them out ... just figure out where would the solution likely be.  I'm trying to say whatever the issue, the solution is likely not too complicated in the world of Apple.
    Enjoy your iPad and Apple gear.

  • How can I get auto correct to recognize a name used very often? It is in my address book but auto correct does t recognize it?

    How can I get auto correct on my iPhone 4 to recognize a name that is already in my address book? It doesn't recognize it and offers no suggestions.

    The cleanest way to get things straight now and as you proceed into the future with Time Machine is to start over. If the new machine is setup the way you want and has all the data placed onto it I suggest you erase and re-format the TM backup device and start a Full initial TM backup.
    I believe this will pay dividends now and over time and avoid future problems for you. Jst before going to bed crank up the Full TM backup and it will be all done by morning time.

  • Auto correct to automatically change "email" to "e-mail"

    Brand new to this group. I have looked at archived material and have not found whether Pages will allow me to do such things as add a hyphen to the word email as I type. Also to automatically capitalize words.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you.

  • Im having problems with contacts on my iPad. One of my contacts names shows up when I choose any one of 36 contacts. the email goes to the correct email address that I've chosen but the incorrect name shows up in the To: area of the email

    I'm having problems with contacts on my iPad. One of my contacts names shows up when I choose any one of 36 contacts. the email goes to the correct email address that I've chosen but the incorrect name shows up in the To: area of the email. Has anyone else experienced this...if so I hope there is a fix

    Hello there erika274,
    It sounds like no matter what contact you put into the 'To' field, a different name appears, but the email makes it to the intended recipient. I would recommend a few things here. First, close all the open apps on the device:
    iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that restart the phone:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:

    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Text auto-correct grabbing words from gmail / etc.

    I'm not sure if this is a Gingerbread issue, but this is a problem that I was introduced to when I got my Xperia PLAY.
    The on-screen QWERTY keyboard lends itself to frequent typos.  Since I started using the Xperia, the auto-correct dictionary has been automatically synced and populated with various words that it apparently grabbed out of my gmail, email, contacts, address book, or elsewhere.   This includes names, segments of email addresses, already misspelled words, etc.
    This has made the auto-correct function useless on my phone, and makes text messaging a convoluted and futile chore that' I'd simply rather not do.
    For example, when I'm trying to send a text to someone asking them, "what time?"  -- I commonly typo "time" as "timr."
    Now, auto-correct on my Xperia always wants to change "timr" into "TimeBomb4321" -- which is a segment of an email address out of my address book.
    And, there's apparently no way to turn this off.
    There's no way to toggle this under "Accounts & sync."
    "User Dictionary" under Settings only includes words that I have manually added to it.
    HOW DO I FIX THIS???

    Hi chuckk,
    I understand the importance of having a streamlined text experience.  I would suggest deleting some of the auto-saved words from the dictionary. Settings>Language & Keyboard>User Dictionary.  Press on hold the word you no longer want and the select delete.  I am hopeful this information is helpful.  Please let me know if you need further assistance.

  • Strange errors in auto-entered email addresses

    I've been experiencing a recuring minor issue with my work Exchange email in Mail. This has been happening for several years and across two or three versions of OS X including Lion. When I start entering a colleague's name in the To: or CC: lines Mail helpfully offers severl suggestions to complete the address. Unfortunately the first suggestion for many people often shows their surname repeated in this format:
    [first name] [surname] [surname] <correct email address>
    Additionally for several people the suggestions appear in this order:
    [first name] [surname] <out-of-date email address>
    [first name] [surname] [surname] <correct email address>
    [first name] [surname] <correct email address>
    In all of these cases their Address Book entries show their names and email addresses correctly. I've also purged all entries using Mail's Window > Previous Recipients menu item and restarted Mail. I have also tried deleting my Exchange account and adding it back. Regardless the problem persists across all three of my Macs. It's usually a minor irritant but does lead to occasionally mis-addressed messages.
    Any suggestions for a remedy would be very welcome.

  • How do I turn auto-correct off and still have a spell check?

    How do I turn auto-correct off and still have a spell check?

    I do not believe this.. you can not disable auto correct without disabling the spell checker.. I am struck dumb by this.. I recently bought a mac for the first time.. ive always used windows.. there are more thngs like this than i expected.. I actually find this so ignorant I am lost for words.. this auto correct is a nightmare for me.. and has already caused me a lot of trouble because I have sent emails where words have been changed and i didnt notice and I have unknowingly insulted people.. i use a regular spell checker quite often but apparently I simply have no choice with safari.. oh well I am going to have to find another browser then.. goodbye safari!.. I also use a lot of shortened words and names etc etc.. like for eg I used the shortened word for problems "probs" and it changes it to "probe" and then i go back and change it back to WHAT I WANT TO SAY and it changes it AGAIN!!!!
    Does anyone else feel like this is yet another example of how, more and more, we are being treated like morons?
    Ok I'll try to stop ranting.. the real point is it should be possible to have a spell checker without auto correct..

  • How to edit auto correct in mail

    After some use Mail auto correct dictionaty gets occassinally confused with custom words. I would like to know how do I locate and edit the custom dictionary.

    Same problem here too.  Maybe it happened with last update, did not seem to happen before.  Also, all my online mail boxes have this going on...
    message -> move to -> archive -> online name (all mail)
    with these exceptions.  My msn and yahoo accounts do not show at all and my 'on my mac' shows twice, once at the top and once at the bottom.  I think all 3 of these are pop3 accounts, if that makes a difference....
    Another weird thing is my msn account does not not show in the dropdown of 'move to' or 'copy to'

  • Email names are appearing incorrectly in my mail

    Email names are appearing incorrectly in my mail inbox.
    The from names are incorrect or missing the full name, some from names have commas around them when others don't, some are coming through with 'test' in the subject line on my phone but if I view on my computer, 'test' is not showing..
    I work in email marketing so this is extrmely important that the correct from names are displaying and certain text i.e 'test' are not showing on a live email sent to customers...

    This seems to be a problem with Yahoo! that started within the past few days.  I am assuming that you are accessing your Yahoo! Mail through Safari.  Until a fix is issued, you have two options -- (1) use the Mail app included in iOS, logging in with your Yahoo! account information or (2) when in Yahoo! Mail in Safari, click on your profile name/pic in the bottom left corner, choose Options, and then choose the last option, which displays your e-mail using the older classic version of Yahoo! Mail.  It's not as pretty or easy to manuever around, but at least it shows the images in your e-mails, which is the most important thing.  Both Apple and Yahoo! have been contacted about this issue, so hopefully a fix will be released soon.

  • How can I get back Mail Auto-Complete email addresses?

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mail no longer works with the auto-complete of email address.
    My Contacts.app works fine, it just seems that Mail is no longer able to 'read' from my Contacts.
    I use iCloud and everything was great for years.  Mail preferences is set to Auto-Complete email address from my Contacts.
    Not sure how the problem started, but I launched Mail on a 2nd computer  - on the same iCloud.
    Shortly after I did that, my 1st Mac no longer auto-completes email.  I'm unsure if that is what set off the problem.
    Also, I 'did' read Tom Nelson's article which did not work since it's not an 'alias' problem:
    http://macs.about.com/od/MacTroubleshootingTips/qt/What-To-Do-When-Mountain-Lion -Mail-Fails-To-Auto-Complete-Email-Addresses.htm
    Also, there doesn't appear to be a com.apple.mail.plist preferences file I can even delete in Mountain Lion.
    I use Dropbox, but have never it to sync Addresses, Calendar, etc.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    I had the same issue. After reading this solution I started poking around in the Container folder and found that there was a symlink for AddressBook that was messed up which was causing the problem. In ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application Support I ran:
    $ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
    $ ls -lh
    AddressBook -> ??/???7??ʪ?????VT???;??\G[?:??:??????T?_Ү??
    CrashReporter
    Mail
    SyncServices -> ../../../../../Application Support/SyncServices
    iCloud -> ../../../../../Application Support/iCloud
    Seeing the aliases for SyncServices and iCloud, I guessed correctly that I just needed to recreate the AddressBook alias to point to the right place. So I just removed the alias for AddressBook, recreated it, restarted Mail, and it worked perfectly. (Note: I did the following to remove the alias, and recreate it. You should confirm what you are removing is an alias. You should also always make sure you have a backup.)
    $ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
    $ rm AddressBook
    $ ln -s ../../../../../Application\ Support/AddressBook AddressBook
    Obviously, DrewSchatt's  original solution to this works as well, but this way you don't have to delete the whole folder, resetting your preferences and possibly delete something else important (only recreating the alias, not deleting any files or data).

  • Turn off auto-correction selectively ?

    I really like the auto correction of typing - sometimes. Other times it is totally annoying. (The worst for me is that my name is Mitch and it always "corrects" it to Match and then I have to retype it.). I wish there were a way to tell it to NOT correct certain words and have it remember. Is there anything like that? Thanks.

    It learns.
    Type "Mitch" and when then blue x pops with "Match", up, tap it. Do this a few times and it will learn "Mitch".
