Auto-correcting feature disaster

Hi. I did something that I deeply regret. When I upgraded my iTunes to the newest version, I think it asked me if I want to opt for auto-correct song titles and artists. I thought that it sounds useful, but the result was a complete disaster. Hundreds and hundreds of songs are now being "corrected" into something completely different from what they should be. Even some of the songs I purchased from iTunes store are named wrong. I don't understand why this feature was created, I don't see anyone having more benefits from this than damage. In my case this has caused nothing but damage. I consider my 5000+ song library completely ruined.
I tried to fix this by loading a previous library, but it made the matter worse, since now it still auto-"corrects" the titles, and I have hundreds of exclamation marked tracks which don't play. I know I may have done something stupid, but I still accuse apple for what I feel is a violation. I know I could manually try to fix my library in iTunes, but I don't look forward to painstakingly fixing hundreds, if not thousands of individual songs.
If someone have a quick solution to this, I would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • How do you turnoff the auto correct feature in messaging?

The auto correct feature in Messaging often changes what I'm typing to the wrong word.  How do I turn off that feature?  It is really annoying!!!

Hey Bill that is pretty annoying which is why I use Swift key as my keyboard. To turn off the feature,  go to settings>language and input. To the right of "Samsung keyboard" is a gear icon. Click on that.  Then click on auto replacement. Click on the on button up at the top right and it should go to off. Let me know if that works for ya.

  • SMS Auto-Correction Stops Working

I've noticed lately that sometimes I'll be typing and my iPhone's Auto-Correction feature stops working. For example if I were to accidentally type "dod", it would normally correct it and change it to "did". Or if I don't capitalize " i ", it'll change it to " I ". Lately however, this feature hasn't been consistently working and it's becoming increasingly annoying to have to meticulously type out each individual character. Any ideas what might be causing this, or how I could fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

You might have inadvertently stored some incorrect spellings in your keyboard dictionary. You can reset it by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

  • Auto Tone feature in Acrobat

Right now when I scan a mostly text document to pdf I can open it in Photoshop and darken the text nicely.  But its a pain to do each page, then save, and re-assemble.  Can Acrobat XI do this, perhaps in preflight?  If you're reading this Adobe, please add the same auto correcting feature found in photoshop to Acrobat Pro.  I notice a huge difference in text intensity when a poor scan is fixed with automated tools in photoshop.

I'd like to know if this is possible too.  I was scanning in Acrobat XI yesterday and the content on one page was not dark enough to read because the original was light.  I could have brought it into Photoshop to darken, but hoped there was a way to do it in AA11.  I know I can adjust the scan settings prior, but I only wanted it for one page and I didn't want to change my customized settings for scans.

  • Undo auto-correction for typing particular words into Pages

This is starting to drive me nuts - whenever I type the word "march" Pages automatically capitalizes it to "March". Is there any way to stop it from capitalizing this word without turning off auto capitalizing?
I realise it may sound trivial but I am using this word a fair bit and it just takes up time having to constantly go back and correct it, then I have to be careful not to change the sentence or it auto-corrects back again.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

(K_Gal: This primarily addresses RHPC's issue, but does include some comments regarding yours)
    B
    RHPC:
Yours is a different issue than that described in the initial post in this thread.
Pages has several auto-correction features, all set in the auto-correction pane of Pages Preferences. The two indicated by the arrows are the significant ones in this thread as started and in your hijack of this thread.
Fix capitalization (blue arrow) applies a format (CAPITAL or UPPER) to the initial letters of 'sentences' and words identified as 'proper nouns' (such as "March") in the spelling dictionary. It performs no action on 'words' that have been typed with initial capitals.
In the examples above, the first two lines were typed with 'Fix capitalization' unchecked. The second pair of lines were typed using exactly the same keystrokes as the first, but with 'Fix capitalization' checked. Note that both occurrences of 'will' are the same in each set.
"Automatically use spell checker suggestions" (red arrow) does precisely what it says: If a 'word' is not found in the spelling dictionary, the spell checker will make a 'best guess' and suggest that as a possible replacement. If the 'Automatically use…" box is checked, then Pages will immediately accept the first suggestion, replacing the 'questionable word' with the spell checkers first ('best') suggestion.
There are at least two solutions to this issue:
Uncheck the box and don't use auto-correction. (works for either of these issues)
Teach the spellchecker the correct spelling of the Polish name. (does not work in the case of march/March, which is part of the base dictionary)
    To do this:
Go Pages (menu) > Preferences... Auto-Correction
    Uncheck the "Automatically use…" box.
    Close Preferences
Open a new Pages word processing document.
    Type the Polish name.
Ensure that the spelling and capitalization is correct.
Right click on the name and choose Learn Spelling.
    Go Pages > Preferences… Auto-Correction
    Recheck the "Automatically use…" box
    Close Preferences.
    Done.
Pages (and other applications using the system's spell checker dictionary) will now recognize the spelling of this name and will not 'correct' it.
(K_Gal: Unfortunately, when I tried this on "march" the contextual menu did not include the Learn Spelling option , probably because the dictionary already 'knew' how to spell "March". I'd suggest using the Provide Pages Feedback item in the Pages message to report this to apple, and request a feature enhancement to the Fix capitalization feature.)

    Barry

  • Can I have several auto-correct dictionaries on my iPhone?

I write from my iPhone in 4 different languages. The main language is german. So when I make mistakes, it easily corrects them because I have auto-correct enabled.
Now when I type in french for example, I can't even write a simple sentence because it doesn't recognize any of the words and it won't stop suggesting other words instead. So I have to click on the little "X" everytime, which is really annoying when you have to do it for each word.
Is there any way I can add multiple dictionaries?
I tried adding more keyboards and stuff like that, but it didn't help.
    It's really important! Thanks guys

    Thanks this helped me!
I only just noticed how to switch between the keyboards (on the little world icon -- I always thought this is just for Emoji, but in the end, it's counted as a keyboard as well).
    And yes it works indeed.
Now however I have another little problem.
Some of the letters and symbols are on different places in the different keyboards. I can only write with a german keyboard! Is there no possibilty of having auto-correct for all languages I wish to have, but to keep the german QWERTZ keyboard?
On my iMac I use a german keyboard as well, but it doesn't stop me from writing in other languages. And the system recognizes if I write in english, french, etc. and adapts the auto-correct feature to this!
If there's a solution for this, it would be perfect
    And thank you sir!

  • Disable "LOL"  Auto-Correct on iPhone 3G

Is there any way to make the iPhone learn to stop changing lol to LOL? The auto-correct feature on the iPhone is phenomenal; however, typing lol in a conversation makes auto-correct change it to LOL always which, to be gentle, makes it sound really annoying. I know you can press the little "x" button above the suggestion, but it becomes cumbersome to press every time -- especially if you text as fast as I do (and use "lol" as much as I do..). Yeah people have suggested use "haha"...but it's not the same....
    Any suggestions?

It would seem the iPhone doesn't learn words for me anymoe and when I type "lol" it just automatically changes it to "LOL" and doesn't pop up with the suggestion of "LOL" with the X so I can cancel it. It now just changes it to "LOL" when I hit the space bar with no options not to do it, nor does it appear I can teach the iPhone new words now. I have no idea why.

  • Does Mail auto correct spelling errors and typos?

I figured out how to get Mail to check my spelling & highlight errors as I go. But is there a way to get it to fix it my typos?
I have been using Entourage for a long time and finally decided to make the switch to Mail. One feature that Entourage had is that is fixes my typos as I type (such as capitalizing "I"). I've gotten pretty used to this and find it frustrating to have to go back all the time.
    Thanks.

    hi there,
thanks for bringing up this topic.
now, how can we make the apple wallahs to include the auto correct feature. i myself would like to go for years from Entourage to Mail. but being hooked to auto correct i cannot. auto correct makes my writing so much faster and easier.
could that be a real problem for them? has 'youknowwho' a patent on it?

  • Text auto-correction is turning on again!

    Hi all!
My iPhone4 is running iOS 5.0.1 and I'm very happy!
But it recently turns text auto-correction on. I turn it off, but sometime later I found it turned on again
I can't understand what causes it to do this. How can I turn this feature absolutely off?

What troubleshooting have you tried over these few days? You charging the phone? Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. This can take up to 60 seconds.

  • Why did Word on Office 2013 REMOVE Auto Correct from Right-Click Context Menu??

    Hi Microsoft -
I normally don't rant, but this is a killer feature removal, and the reason given is for aesthetics - 'Removal of clutter" is how it's worded here:
    [Changes in Office 2013]
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178954(en-us).aspx
I copy n pasted below the operative row from the linked TechNet page as to the reason WHY this critical (and very popular feature) has been removed from Microsoft Office 2013 Word's context-menu: LESS CLUTTER
And your answer is ambiguous and doesn't solve the issue that you created to make things prettier: "Click the AutoCorrect Options button" Then what?  ADD EACH WORD MANUALLY?
Please advise ALL OF US that want this feature back how to have our commonly misspelled words fixed and added automatically to the dictionary.  If I am missing this in a major way somehow, I apologize completely and will issue a public apology via any
social media platform of your choice.  If it really is gone, and I have to manually add the entries into a buried table 6-clicks deep, then I will issue a public excoriation of this feature on as many social platforms of my choice.
    Sincerely,
    Maximus Mednick

    Modifying the feature
Auto-Correct and certain formatting tools are no longer available from the spelling error context menu.
To make Word 2013 cleaner and less cluttered, we removed AutoCorrect and certain formatting tools from the spelling error context menu. The features are still available in Word 2013 through other entry points within the Word user interface.
Less clutter in the spelling error context menu. This enables users to find popular commands more quickly. In addition, the spelling error context menu now fits better on the screen.
To change AutoCorrect options, do the following:
Choose File -> Options -> Proofing
    Choose the AutoCorrect Options button.

Microsoft used to be about allowing users to customize the OS and apps however they want. This was one reason I have always preferred Windows over Mac. There are 5 ways to do any one thing, and you can customize it to do it however you want. It's all about
user choice. Please don't go the way of Apple and force users into the way that you *think* we should do things.
    <rant>
While I whole heartedly agree with this suggestion, if you look through this blog about the design decisions that went into the 2007 ribbon:
Jensen Harris: An Office User Interface Blog -
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jensenh/archive/2008/03/12/table-of-contents.aspx
You'll see that one of the considerations of the ribbon was to ELIMINATE/REDUCE customization because it was costing large corporate customers too much time/money to support their users with 2003 customized menu/toolbars.  In other words, the ribbon
was intentionally built as a fixed design so that average user cannot change it.  The QAT was an afterthought, a sop, to allow users minimal customization.
They found that the 2007 lock down was too much of a "good thing", too much like the good old "IBM 360 green screen" (even if most people don't recognize the reference), so in 2010 they
re-introduced limited Ribbon customization within the UI.
But you still can't customize the default tabs. And to add injury to insult, if you do want to customize a default tab and go to the effort of trying to recreate the default tabs and groups
within the Ribbon UI, you'll eventually find that YOU CAN'T'! There is no way inside the UI to force the buttons to layout the same way! AHHH!
    Even in 2007,
EXPERTS have had the option of creating custom Ribbons/tabs by editing XML, but that is pretty serious programming, out of scope for 99% of users.
The "solution" to the problem was too simple. Just add an option to allow users to turn on the old menu UI.  Even if it had been buried as a registry hack, the people who really wanted it would have learned about it. Then MS could have collected statistics
on usage that would have "proved" that the menu was preferred over the ribbon.  The thing is, if the ribbon was defaulted "out of the box", over time people would eventually all switch over to it. Simply because it was the default, because MS only produced
new training material referring for the ribbon
Now, I'll concede that the ribbon really may be more "intuitive", but only for new users. For long time users the change is very jarring.
They made the same choice with Windows 8.  In the last Windows 8 consumer Preview there was a registry hack to bypass the Start Screen.  I learned about it in July or August. But MS was so sure the Start screen/metro was the only way to go they
rushed out a Windows Update to eliminate that registry entry. And it was eliminated from the RTM version.
    WHY?
Why did they remove the user's right to chose the UI that worked best for them? I don't know.
</end rant>  sorry, this is a hot button for me.

  • Is there a way to Auto-Correct Spelling of text as I write text in Dreamweaver CS6 ?

While I write text on the html pages using Dreamweaver CS6 (Adobe Cloud downloaded version 2014), there is only an option to Spell Check the page.
But I am asking if there is a way to set preferences to auto-correct suggestions such as how Word Docs offer solutions to mis-spelled words?

    Thank you for your replies.
I am using Adobe, Creative Cloud /  Dreamweaver Software Program iMac Downloads, updated to current.
I believe there not to be the feature present in Dreamweaver on "Page View" to Spell Correct Automatically by giving word options, etc.
I know to spell check the entire page before posting the page(s) live.
I am not only writing in code view, designing HTML 5 pages, but  I am the Author and Editor of all content as well.
I can see how the coders would hate having text auto correct.
But, on the editor side, as a writer, from the page view, ... it would rock as an option.

  • Auto correct capitalization of first letter in sentence in Mail?

I was used to Mt. Lion auto correcting my first letter in my sentences in Mail and now it does not.  The same is true for smaller case "i".  Sounds like both are not working in Mavericks Mail.  Hope this will get corrected (pun intended) in the next iteration.

That has never been a feature of Mac OS X or Mail. I suspect you had a Mail plugin installed that was doing that for you, and that plugin must not be working in Mavericks.
