Auto-delete in camera at importing

When importing from my Nikon camera using the Nikon software, I can set the it to erase the sd-card after importing. However I have not found this feature when importing directly from the camera into Lightroom. There I have to erase manually afterwards. Is this feature missing in Lightroom?

No, it's not there, and I rather hope it's not added.
One reason is that I always reformat in camera, rather than erase via computer or erase via camera. Much cleaner, much safer, in that you have another backup (images on the card) in case something's amiss with what you just downloaded, or thought you downloaded.
Now, auto "eject" has been asked for and my guess is that'll be added at some point.

  • How do I get Lightroom 4 to delete off camera when importing (like iPhoto and Aperature)?

When I import photos using iPhoto or Aperature, I get an option to delete them off the camera when the import completes.  That feature is really helpful when there are deveral hynred photos in memory.  How do I accomplish the same thing using Lightroom 4?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Hamish, there are two important things you should know: 1) if you can recover your deleted photos using any software, then you can do the same thing with "delete after import" and 2) if you can recover after a format, you never did a format, which also brings up the fact that "reformatting" the card to preserve data integrity requires a "full reformat" where every sector of the disk is wiped and, by default, a "quick reformat" just rewrites the File Allocation Table to zeros, ALL the files are still on the card and can be recovered. It's the reason the military has special "secure format" options built into their devices, because even a full reformat leaves magnetic traces that can be recovered with the right software. A secure reformat actually write random data with characters numbered 0-127 to each sector, erases it, writes random data a second time with characters 128-255 and erases it, then finally writes specifically the value "0" to all sectors and then performs a full reformat which places the value "null" in each sector. Then you KNOW your data is gone, each sector has data integrity and can be safely written to again and no one can snatch your data once you've formatted the card.
Apart from the aforementioned arguments, not everyone removes the card to transfer data. Some people use a USB cable and some are now using wireless and I believe their is an IR transfer on some cameras. On cameras using MTP and PTP, some erase/format commands are not available directly over the connection.
However, my biggest concern is twofold, it presumes that Adobe knows better then I what should/could be done with my data and they are helping me "for my own good" (them's fighting words between liberals and conservatives, democrats and republicans) and secondly, it restricts options instead of expanding them. Who knows what possibilities exist or needs may or may not be fulfilled by some creative minds out there (I am constantly amazed at what people can do when given the tools they need) and having options is always a good thing. As was pointed out, if implemented correctly, no harm can come to your data because there is always two copies in existence until verification is made that the copy is a perfect match to the original. On the other hand, I have had cameras corrupt the original, so nothing is ever perfectly safe. However, the "observed" actual practice is that people use Lightroom, transfer the photos, then format the card manually creating the exact same problem as if the camera did it automatically (far easier to reformat while the card is in the computer than put it in the camera and go through all those menus) and thus they would lose the information anyhow. The people who are least likely to lose any data are those who transfer the pictures, then look at every one to assure you have it, then go back and delete them one at a time from your camera and, when empty, then reformat the card. Try doing that during a wedding shoot. Very few people are so disciplined. It is a feature that has outlived it's day. You are hard pressed to find any software besides Lightroom that does not give this option.
Last peculiarity, and maybe it is something I do, but if you shoot and save pictures in both Raw and JPG, when you transfer, onlt the Raw file is transferred leaving the JPG on the camera, but it you shoot just JPG it transfers the JPG and if you shoot just raw it transfers the raw, but it never transfers both. Did I miss a setting somewhere to transfer both copies to the PC?

  • Running out of internal storage space! Want to make room by deleting photos WITHOUT LOSING MY PHOTOS! Can I delete the Camera Roll yet still keep my photos in Photo Stream?? Will doing this free up ios storage? Does Photo Stream auto delete ever?

Hello, I am out of internal storage on my Iphone 4 ALREADY (Just purchased 3 months ago!). I need to clear up some space so I can do updates and take new photos. I was thinking about backing up my Photo Stream to the icloud and then deleting my Camera Roll.
1.) Is this a terrible idea??? I do NOT want to lose those photos! But I NEED more space on my phone!
2.) Will deleting Camera Roll free up space (a sufficient amount? My Camera Roll is at 4.5 GB)?
3.) Will deleting Camera Roll delete my photos from Photo Stream also? It doesn't seem to.
4.)  Does Photo Stream ever automatically delete photos???
5.)  Is there anyway I can save the pictures from my phone to my computer??? I can see the photos on my computer when viewing them through Photo Stream, but those are not permanent, correct?
This is one of the most ridiculous, confusing and unnessacary things I've ever known! Why oh why can't we just have a good ol' SD Card??? (My Droid never ever ran out of storage and I had it for 2 years...)
I tried backing up my photos in Itunes, but I don't have a new enough version. I tried downloading a new itunes and it still tells me I don't have the new version.
I have been working on this for 4 hours, its 2:30 am and I am going to bed. I am sorry I had to ask, but I've been searching and searching and just cannot find the answers. Thank you so much for your help!
6.) Also, I haven't been able to find the videos using the Icloud or the Photo Stream either...
7.) Do you have to have your device (pc) synced with icloud to access the info you backed up from iphone?? Like can I show my cousin my photos at her house using her computer by just loggin on??? Or can I only view my contacts, calender, mail, notifications, and such?
8.) Where on the icloud would one find text messages or other saved info??
Thank you so very much for helping me!!!

What I would say is best is to import the videos and photos to your computer so that you can delete camera roll photos with a copy of them in your possession:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
In regards to backing up Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486:
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
"No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage."
However, you can do the tedious task of moving your camera roll pictures to photo stream by ensuring photo stream is turned on for your device and take a screen shot of each picture in your camera roll to move it over.
To take a screen shot, just press the "Home Button" and the "Sleep/Wake Button" at the same time while viewing the image.
1.)  It's not a terrible idea, it can be tedious though.
2.)  Deleting a bunch of photos/videos from a camera roll 4.5GB in size can definitely free up space
3.)  Photo Stream photos, as you said, appear to stay upon deleting the photos.  (Tested it personally)
4.)  Photo Stream has a limit according to:  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858)
Essentially, it won't erase your photos until you tell it to.
    5.)  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083  (As shown above)
6.)  To update iTunes, you must download and then "Run" the download you get off the website.  Otherwise you will just have an installer program sitting there not updating iTunes.
7.)  You can bring up your Photo Stream pictures anywhere you have Photo Stream capabilities.  For a computer at someone else's house, they would have to have the iCloud control panel (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455) on their computer and be signed into their Photo Stream and viewing your profile's pictures (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4379)
8.)  On iCloud, you can backup your text messages, but you cannot view them independently on www.icloud.com.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859
"You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails"
Hope some of this information helps!

  • IPhoto won't delete photos from camera after importing. It used to....

Hello...anybody have any thoughts on this issue? I always check the 'delete after importing' option when connecting camera and importing new photos. Recently, the photos have remained on the camera and I have to delete pictures from my camera manually instead of iPhoto doing this. It seems that after I upgraded to OS X 10.5 I noticed this issue. Needless to say if I forget to delete from the camera, iPhoto wants to import the old photos when I have new pics to import. Thanks for any help.
    Camera is an Olympus SLR.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
We've seen occasional reports of this with 10.5. Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
That said, experienced users do not recommend letting iPhoto delete the pics from your card. If there has been a problem with the transfer you won't know about it until after the erase is complete. It's a couple of seconds work to reformat the card using your camera.

  • How do I delete the media after import from camera?

How do I delete the media after import from camera?

The usual procedure with video is you backup the card contents onto an archive drive. You import from the archive drive making a copy (professionals on set make two copies), and once the backups and import are verified, the card is reformatted in the camera.

  • HT201302 I need more space on my iPhone to update to iOS 7.0.6. I was able to import and then delete my Camera Roll but not my Photo Library. How do I do that?

I need more space on my iPhone to update to iOS 7.0.6. I was able to import and then delete my Camera Roll but not my Photo Library. How do I do that?

To delete your photo library you need to connect to iTunes, then remove the selection for the images, then sync the device.
While you are connected to iTunes do the update through iTunes. It takes much less memory as the update is loaded onto your computer, unpacked, then sent to the device.

  • I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?

I updated to iOS7 and my deleted photos came back.  How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?  I want to get rid of the ones I already got rid of, but if they just keep coming back that will be a waste of time.
    Can anyone help?
When I sync with itunes, the photos sections says I am syncing with my iphone, so I assume that anything I physically delete from my iphone should not be showing up again.  Right?
    Thanks in advance.
    CM
    PS- I don't use iphoto.

Is that really how sync works?
If you read this, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236  and this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314  they don't actually make how sync works very clear.  I had thought that syncing my device to itunes would allow I tunes to copy what was currently on my phone so that I could restore that information when needed ie if your phone dies and you need to do a clean install of the iOS system, you always have what is currently on your phone saved in Itunes.
    Specifically reading this:
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos from your device
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer and choose to delete items after import.
Delete photos and videos from your device manually:
Open the Photos application and open the Camera Roll.
    Tap the Action button.
Tap each photo to select it.
    Tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.
What you seem to be saying is that iTunes saves every contact, message, photo etc and when you click sync, it reuploads things that you deleted?  This seems like it should work the opposite.  Make a mirror image of my iPhone on my computer, not make a mirror image of my computer onto my iPhone.  You delete things for a reason.
Help- anyone else?  Is razmee209 right?

  • MAGNETIC PEN TOOL, AUTO DELETE ANCHOR POINT.

MAGNETIC PEN TOOL, AUTO DELETE ANCHOR POINT.
How would you like the feature to work?
like pen tool in AI, when clicking out around shape and creating anchor points, ability to hover over previous anchors and click on them to delete them,
also right click to automatically delete most recent path created , and ability for consecutive right clicks to keep deleting previous segments of anchor and path.
Why is this feature important to you?
easier editability on the fly with the magnetic pen tool..

Many people seem to confuse joining with averaging. Like Ray says, only endpoints can be joined. In your case you don't need to join the points. Select the points you want to have in the same position and Cmd-alt-J, Both, and all the points will hop to the average position.
Alternatively you can snap an endpoint to an anchor point. Put your cursor on the selected endpoint that you want to move and drag it till it snaps onto the anchor point you're aiming at.

  • After downloading photos from a camera, and deleting them from the device, "iPhoto Quit Unexpectedly", photos were deleted from camera

Does anyone have any suggestions to find these photos?  Can't believe they were deleted from camera, but are not in "Last Import".

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Sent mail showing up as Unread; multiple Drafts that don't auto-delete

I found an old 2008 thread that describes this pretty well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1372415&start=15&tstart=0
We're running Leopard 10.5.8, and the mail account is IMAP (not mac.com or gmail or fusemail, but our business mail hosted on a Verio server.) Recently, messages being composed and automatically saved as a Draft (which I know is normal) got multiple draft copies which do not auto-delete when the message is sent. Also, some messages in the Sent box show up as unread.
I think we've got Drafts set to save to the server. But it's worked fine up until just recently.

Also, is there a way for me to create/import my mail folders in the iPhone? Before when it was a yahoo account (rather than a POP) I could create folders in the yahoo webmail interface and they would show up, but that's not the case with a POP account.
Or what about IMAP? I think Yahoo Plus supports IMAP now, how would that work with Mac Mail?
    Thanks.

  • Delete Canon camera photo not sync

I would like to delete Canon photos from my iPad 4?
Syncing just adds more photos that I have adjusted through Photoshop.
This incompetent iOS chooses what photos it wants to sync and doesn't ask me what I want.
In the iOS where is the delete button to delete Canon camera photos? NOT the iPad photos which are easy to delete.
iTunes gives me a list of movies, music, apps and home share. Where in the world do you find photos to sync and unsync?
I use my laptop as a backup. I don't want to delete photos just to sync with my iPad to delete photos.
Where do you find the name of the photo on the iPad?

No help so far. I tried to follow the above but there are buttons and devices talked about not showing for me.
Here is what is showing on my laptop for iTunes 11.0.5.5
1)Top left is a button that takes me to iTunes player preferences - nothing in there
2)Next line is the player control for back play forward and a slider button for sound then an Apple then a search box - no help on this line
3)Next is Flie View Edit Controls Store Help - nothing in there to delete Canon camera photos
4)Next is a button that allows me to check Movies Music Apps Home sharing - nothing for those buttons
same line unwatched movies genres home videos list - nothing to delete photos
same line a button that said iPad until I clicked it and it disappeared? setting in iTunes is taken off of autosync(back on after starting iTunes and it is autosyncing) then the last button is iTunes store
To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.  ****11.0.5.5****latest version****
In iTunes, select your device's icon in the Devices list on the left. ****Where is the devices icon****See above for Line 4****
Delete photos and videos from your device manually. Open the Photos application, open the Camera Roll, tap the Action button, tap each photo to select it, and tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save for later, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.
Will not work for pictures taken with a Canon camera. Will work for pictures taken with the iPad camera.
I opened Photos on the iPad
First line is showing the iPad wifi then the time in the middle and far right is bluetooth battery
Next is three buttons Photos - Photo stream - Albums then on the right are the buttons slideshow edit
No where in iTunes can I find anything to do with changing folders or albums or syncing or choosing a device.
Way too complicated just to TRY AND DELETE a few Canon camera pictures.
I guess it is way more difficult to have a picture file manager built in to the iOS. How did the Apple programmers do it for their OS? They don't have to sync with iTunes.
    Simplicity with iTunes equals chaos.
I can't figure this iPad and iTunes out when there are missing buttons.
    Picture file manager for iOS7?

  • How do i delete photos in my library without having them auto delete from albums I've created

My photo library is HUGE.  I want to delete photos from the library WITHOUT having them removed from specific albums I've already created.  Why do they auto delete from albumns???

    You can not
Albums are not a place - they are one of many ways to view the photos in your library - each photo exist one and only one time - Events, Photos, albums, last import, last "n" months, etc are simply different way to view the photo - none take up additional disk space
If you delete a photo form the library it is gone from every view of it

  • When I take a photo it goes to camera roll and my photo stream. This doubles the memory being used. Can I delete the camera roll?

When I take a photo it goes to camera roll and my photo stream. This doubles the memory being used. Can I delete the camera roll? This seems pointless to have the same pictures twice. My Photo Stream pictures upload to my PC, so why should I have the same photos in Camera Roll?
Am I supposed to delete pictures in camera roll after they go into My Photo Stream? Why can't I just take a picture and it go to photo stream on its own? My camera roll AND My Photo Stream go back to March 11, 2014

You're misinformed and have asked several questions that I'll try to tackle.
No it doesn't double the memory. The Photo Stream image is simply a pointer to what you have in your camera roll.
If you delete pictures from your camera roll, leaving them only in Photo Stream, you will lose those images forever if you don't then pull them out of Photo Stream on another connected device. Photo Stream is meant to be TEMPORARY cloud storage for your images. Read about it here: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
You should ALWAYS offload your images if you want to keep them. See how to do that here: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

I've tried to fix this by changing the IMAP account's Junk settings so that they are moved either to the

  • Auto delete everything but specified folder contents from txt file

    Hey Guys,
I am brand new to using Powershell (like 48 hours into using it for work) and I've run into a bit of an issue.  I've only taken a programming concept classes so some of the stuff makes sense to me but a lot of it is new.  Basically I've made a
script that automatically deletes any files over X amount of days.  My next step is to have an exceptions text that will have a list of folders that should not have its contents deleted.  This is what I have so far.
    $Date= Get-Date
    $Days = "7"
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = $Now.AddDays(-$Days)
#----- getting DO NOT DELETE listing from TXT ----#
    $Exceptions = Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt"
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse -Exclude "c:\exclude.txt" | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le "$LastWrite"}
    foreach ($File in $Files)
        if ($File -ne $NULL)
            Remove-Item $File.FullName -Exclude $Exceptions | out-null
I've seen a lot of threads that show how to auto delete contents or how to exclude specific file types but I haven't seen an answer to my particular problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi Rabbot,
The script below may be also helpful for you, and uses the -whatif parameter in Remove-Item cmdlet, which doesn’t actually remove anything but simply tells you what would happen if you did call Remove-Item.
    $Exceptions = @()
    Get-Content "c:\exclude.txt" | foreach{
    $Exceptions += $_} #store the exception file to array
    $Folder = "C:\publicftp\users"
    $LastWrite = (get-date).adddays(-7) #over 7 days.
    $Files = Get-Childitem $Folder -Recurse | Where {$_.LastWriteTime -le $LastWrite} #filter files which over 7 days.
    Foreach ($file in $files){
if ($Exceptions -notcontains $file.fullname){ #if the file is not listed in the exception array.
    Remove-Item $File.FullName -whatif} #use -whatif to test
    I hope this helps.
