Auto dimming on iPhone 5

How to turn off auto dimming? It is impairing driving with the GPS software while power is connected to iPhone.
Any ways around the dimming?

I have exactly the same issue, not good for driving using GPS driving! For the avoidance of doubt, the phone is not plugged in when driving but dims by itself; brightnesses gone down to 0 itself whether auto-brightness is on or off; even after driving when not on Google GPS I found the phone to be dimming...
This problem seems to only occur only when using Google GPS. This problem goes away when using GPS function via Contacts i.e when the address fields are populated selecting that takes you to maps, with the option to navigate or drive to...
Hope this helps - if anyone knows how to use the Apple Navigation without using Contacts already saved in the phone ie enter the postcode only without having to create the contact and address first please let me know!

  • Auto dim settings on Iphone

I stupidly took off the auto dim on the iphone and now the screen is blank and i cant see how to get it back. I tried turning it off, touching anywhere on the screen...
    please help!!

Something else has to be going on. Despite making brightness changes to the iPhone, you cannot turn the screen completely off. I would try to do a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then releasing. Once the iPhone restarts, see if the screen responds. While it can be dim, it doesn't go out completely.

  • IPhone auto dim feature?

My auto dim works. BUT, I just noticed that my two friends iphones put the screen in a really low dim mode when they aren't touched for 30 seconds or so. Mine will not do it, even if the auto-dim is on. Does anyone know if it has anything to do with another feature?

I just figured it out. If you have the auto-lock feature set to "never", your phone will never dim the screen when not in use. If you set it to any one of the "minute" intervals, it will dim.

  • Samsung 24-inch display auto-dimming problem

Right out of the box 3 or 4 months ago, my Samsung 24 inch 2443 BW dims uncontrollably whenever I have a window open that has mostly black or other dark-colored background - say about 60% black; I can actually watch the whole screen and desktop - not just the window - brighten or darken in response to manipulating the images and/or background color in the window. This is on a G5 1.8GHz dual with a GeForce FX 5200, running 10.4.11. It doesn't depend on the ambient light. The System Prefs doesn't offer any way to control auto-dimming. I'm thinking it could be a driver problem, maybe related to the fact that I am still using 10.4.11.
Has anyone had a similar problem and found a fix or workaround? Thanks.

Problem solved! This morning (yes, I should've done this 6 months ago, soon after I bought the unit). As a prelude to returning the unit to Samsung, I finally took the 2443 BW back to my local Apple (specialist) dealer (not an Apple Store. They're independent and don't usually "do PCs", although they can if required). Of course I made sure I had some images that were guaranteed to demonstrate the problem. Their "service genius" watched the behavior for less than a minute and promptly fixed it. (Kudos! )
All that was needed was to "turn off" the "Dynamic Contrast" option from the Samsung's menu (MENU > Picture > MagicBright > Dynanamic Contrast), by selecting one of the other (static) options instead - I preferred the "Sport" option.
When I got it reconnected at home, I adjusted the contrast and brightness settings on the Samsung's Menu to suit me. I am also using the (Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Adobe RGB (1998) Display profile instead of the one labeled "SyncMaster"). The SyncMaster display profile makes the screen look very washed-out.
This dialogue has definitely helped, by helping to pinpoint the monitor itself as the most likely source of the problem.
    Cheers

  • Screen brightness and auto dim

    Hello everyone,
I'm just wondering why the screenbrightness gets reduced in dark surroundings with turned on auto dim even more than it is manually possible.
I would like to turn auto dim off and only control the brightness with the manual control but this does not let me reduce screenbrightness enough.
Does anyone have a good suggestion?

Thanks for your reply. But that's not exactly what I was looking for.
There is a big difference in how dark the display can be set when using the automatic backlight dimming. When turned on the screen can get to a very low brightness at night. It is not possible to achieve the same low brightness with automatic backlight dimming turned off.
I suppose that this might only be possible with a software change.

  • Screen not auto dimming.....can anyone help?

For some reason, my touch has stopped dimming. Whether I am playing a song, on the main screen, whatever, it just stays at the auto brightness setting, never going to the darker screen and never going all black. I have done a reset and this didn't fix it, but it is REALLY killing my battery life, especially after it didn't auto power off at all last night. Any ideas?

did ur auto dim turned on?
maybe u could set ur brightness
or press the sleep button on top to turn off the screen but still playing ur music
i think this could save ur batt life

  • Why does ipad dim after turning off auto dim

my ipad continues to dim slightly back and forth despite the fact i turned off auto dim, why?

Have you tried closing the scrabble app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the scrabble game 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the scrabble app to close it (you could also 'close' the apps that are in the taskbar), and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
A third option would then be to delete and re-install the app and see if that makes any difference

  • Screen not auto dimming correctly

I started to have an issue when the playbook auto dims the screen goes to a very light black/ dark greyish screen when i turn it back on the screen is really dark and the screen is not normal. I have to turn off the PB by pushing the power button then turning it back on to correct issue.  anyone know how to fix this annoying issue?
I use my playbook for work all day long so i use word and excell

Try putting your thumb over the LED. If it does it then, it is the auto dim which can be turned off in settings.
It is designed to dim the screen when indoors or at night to reduce glare, but it is all or nothing and often dims at an inopportune time. Try it, it's. Settings, Screen.

  • Auto-dim feature works in the opposite way

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion 17" laptop and I have two major remarks on the HP implementation of the display.
    1. The auto-dim feature works in the opposite way: it should be that when dark images appear the display produces more light and lesser light when whiter/brighter images are displayed. Now the display dimms its lights when dark images are displayed which makes that they are wayyyy bad to see!
    2. The auto-dim feature can be turned of, but is back turned on when the computer was turned off in standby mode allthough it says that it is turned off.... weird!
At work I have a Dell and there it all wors as it should !
So HP, please correct these flaws asap, thanks :-)

  • Auto-dimming in upcoming 3.0 upgrade?

The one major thing that frustrates me about the "touch" is that I either have to choose between a few "timed" settings before the screen goes into blank lock mode or I have to leave it on forever which kills the battery. Does anyone know if the upcoming 3.0 software will have an auto-dimming feature that will perhaps dim the screen to 1/2 or 1/3 power after maybe 30 seconds to prolong battery life?

It's kind of a big deal to me particularly when I'm playing music. If I have the screen set for say 3 minutes and I want to change the song that's playing at 3:01 I have to either double click the home button or unlock it completely each time, which can be frustrating not only once but every single time I want to change a song or an album. I think my old iPod Classic had the dimming feature--seems like a natural to me.
Thanks for the heads up on Stanza and Flashlight; I may try them if 3.0 does not offer the dimming feature.

  • Windows 8 Consumer Beta Auto-Dimming issue?

So installed Windows 8 last night (over Windows 7, since I'm not an avid user of Windows anyway). I fixed my trackpad issue, but my display auto-dims to a very low brightness for no reason. I have brightness control, but I'll change it, and less than 30 seconds later it will simply revert back to a low rightness. Is there a fix for this? Should I just go ahead and wipe it and do a clean install?

I think it's a problem with the ambient light sensor.
I had this problem and to fix it you need to go into the advanced power options and there is an option for auto-brightness. If you turn this off then the problem goes away.
On the system tray, click on the Power icon, and then Advanced Power settings, and the option is towards the bottom of the list.
I'm not on Windows right now so not 100% sure about the exact path, but its something along those lines.

  • How do i stop my laptop from auto dimming in dark rooms?

My computer has recently started auto dimming when in darker rooms of the house, i know its an issue with the light sensor because I've held a flashlight to it and it instantly brightens, however, i have unchecked the "automatically adjust brightness" box in the system settings and it continues to dim it's self even when unchecked and brightness is on full. It isn't the result of any recent updates, as there haven't been any in some time and it's only started in the last two weeks. please help!!

  • IMac 21.5" Screen 'flutter' when screen auto dims'

Hi, I have a brand new 21.5" i7 with 8GB Ram. I noticed the other day that when the screen dimmed the whole panel seems to flutter, I also noticed that auto dimming never dims below a certain point and remains really bright, even in a dark room, yet my friends snow leopard variant has none of these issues and dims all the way down. I didn't want to keep a machine that's just over a week old if its defective but are these lion bugs or is it hardware? I was wondering if anyone with Lion is having similar issues, My machine was not an upgrade but came with 10.7 installed.

It's out of Applecare/warranty by a couple of months and I cant afford to pay for it myself, any point in taking it to apple?

  • Screen auto dims and after about one second, it sleeps. If you try to catch it and undid the screen during this time, it freezes and you have to hard reset.

If you leave the laptop untouched, it will auto dim the screen.
About one second after autodim, the screen will turn off.
If during that one second duration, you try to undim the screen (by touching the touchpad, for example), the laptop will freeze and the only way to turn it back on is by holding the power button.

    1. System Preferences > Energy Saver
