Auto Download "Stream" data

Hey all,
The issue I'm facing is part iTunes and part iCloud. I got my iPhone 4S a few days after it came out and restored it as an iCloud backup from my old 3GS. I was extatic that all my apps, contacts, calendars, etc. came down exactly how I had it on my 3GS but one thing bugged me.
Some of the music that I had on my 3GS was coming down as well -- or at least all the songs I bought off of iTunes. The problem with this is that I didn't want ALL of those songs to be on my iPhone. I wanted to delete the music off of my iPhone and replace it with the music I backed up to my MacBook Pro (via a program called expod -- download it, it's free) so that's what I did. But when I plugged my 4S into iTunes, I got 76 songs all in grey font will the word "Stream" in the Size field.
This was all the music from iTunes and so I deleted them. That only worked until the next time I went into iTunes to update my 4S via wi-fi. I saw those same 76 songs in there again the exact same way. So I delete the songs again and plugged in my iPhone 4S the old fashioned way. There they were again. At this point it's getting to be frustrating trying to get those songs rid of for good. They are already on my 4S via the folder I had backed them up on before I swapped iPhones so I didn't need them on there again plus they were taking up space on my 4S.
Part of me thinks it has to do with Automatic Downloads but I have all of that turned off -- both on my iPhones and iTunes -- and the other part of me thinks it's got something to due with iCloud backup. I don't need iCloud to back up the few songs I have downloaded from iTunes. Could someone lend a helping hand to this situation please?
Thanks!

Okay, so I am not a developer with the beta iTunes Match. I wound out that it was indeed something in the iCloud backup that wanted all of my stuff from iTunes onto my iPhone.
Like iTunes does (or used to do) -- especially when you plug in your device for the first time on a new computer -- it wants to bring ALL of your music and other media onto your device via the sync. That seems to be what happens when one restores their device from an iCloud backup -- all the songs, apps, etc. that you have gotten via Apple's iTunes store or App Store and have installed on your device. In my case, for some reason they were'nt corresponding at all to what my computer and my iPhone was telling me.
When I restored from an iCloud backup the same problem occured. When I restored from a backup via iTunes however, the problem had magically resolved itself. My music is currently being put on my iPhone from the backup folder I created with DeTunes (still a fantastic app for your Mac).
That's how I solved this particular issue before I got to try out luai e's suggestion. Thanks guys, you both get helpful answers.

  • How do I get my photos not to auto download into photo stream, but keep photo stream on?

My entire family has apple devices and we enjoy photo stream a lot! However, with my new iphone 5, I do not want pictures I take to auto download to photo stream! This being said, I cannot find a way to do this without turning off photo stream all together... something I do not want to do. So what do I do?

    FAQ photo stream http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
I believe you may have answer your own question, it's either all or nothing.

  • Do I need to manually back up my iphone photos if I have auto downloads already set up in iphoto?

I'm a relatively new iPhone user. I don't take a ton of photos, but the ones I take are important to me. I've been trying to make sure that photos I take with my phone are backed up and in iPhoto. I have a few questions regarding how it all works.
    1) If I take a picture with my iPhone it goes to both my camera roll and my photostream (yes, photostream is on)... is this correct?
    2) My photostream is limited to 1000 photos. These photos exist on the cloud aren't necessarily saved to my computer... is this correct?
    3) I have automatic downloading set up via iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. When I do this ALL photos I take are downloaded by my computer as long as I've connected it to the internet at some point recently... is this corret? If they are downloaded, are they downloaded from my photostream, or are they downloaded as they come in?
    4) If I go over 1000 photos in a month in my photostream, does it save ALL of them to iPhoto or just the 1000 most current? In other words, in iPhoto I see a section labeled, for example, "May 2013 Photostream". If I took 1500 photos during that May timeframe, would they ALL be there or would only the 1000 that constituted my photostream at the time of download be in there?
    5) If a photo is show in iPhoto it is permenantly downloaded to my computer's harddrive... is this correct?
    6) This is the biggest one. If I have auto downloads set up between my iPhone and iPhoto, is there any reason to download photos manually? Everytime I download photos manually it says I have a bunch of duplicates. They all seem to be duplicated in my photo stream, BUT others are not duplicated and seem to download at the time of the manual operation, which makes me think that they autodownloads aren't downloading everything.
    7) Do photos I edit in Snapseed or Instagram get downloaded automatically or do I have to put them somewhere for that to happen?
Sorry for the barrage of questions. This stuff is super confusing if you've never used it before. I just want to be sure I haven't lost anything and don't delete anything.

    Good questions!
SInce you are having Photo Stream, you may want to backup your iPhone to iCLoud. to be on the safe side,  see:  iCloud: Backup and restore overview
    1) If I take a picture with my iPhone it goes to both my camera roll and my photostream (yes, photostream is on)... is this correct?
Yes, photos you take with the iPhone will be stored in the camera roll, and the camera roll will be automatically added to iCLoud and synced to your devices.
    2) My photostream is limited to 1000 photos. These photos exist on the cloud aren't necessarily saved to my computer... is this correct?
My photo stream is limited to max 1000 photos and only the last month of photos.
If you enable automatic import on your mac, these photos will be stored on your mac automatically in monthly events in iPhoto. Or you can import manually, what you are seeing in the My Photo Stream album.
    See:  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
    3) I have automatic downloading set up via iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. When I do this ALL photos I take are downloaded by my computer as long as I've connected it to the internet at some point recently... is this corret? If they are downloaded, are they downloaded from my photostream, or are they downloaded as they come in?
All photos currently in iCloud will be visible in the Photo Stream, when it is enabled on your mac, and with automatic import they will be added to the monthly events, as soon as the mac syncs with iCloud.
    4) If I go over 1000 photos in a month in my photostream, does it save ALL of them to iPhoto or just the 1000 most current?
When you reach 1000 photos in My Photo Stream, the oldest photos will automatically deleted, so you should sync your phone before that happens.
    iCloud: Photo Stream limits
In other words, in iPhoto I see a section labeled, for example, "May 2013 Photostream". If I took 1500 photos during that May timeframe, would they ALL be there or would only the 1000 that constituted my photostream at the time of download be in there?
You can sync more than a 1000 photos per month, only make sure, you sync often.
    5) If a photo is show in iPhoto it is permenantly downloaded to my computer's harddrive... is this correct?
It is downloaded permanently, as soon as you are seeing it in an event in iPhoto, not if it is only showing in the "My Photo Stream" album.
One good reason to download manually would be the download speed. It is just quicker, and you are not risking transmission errors. Also, you may have more photos in your camera roll than in the photo stream, because you could have deleted photos from the photo stream. The duplicates should be no problem, if you exclude them from importing.
    7) Do photos I edit in Snapseed or Instagram get downloaded automatically or do I have to put them somewhere for that to happen?
I do not use these apps, so I cannot be sure, but usually you will have to save edited photos back to the camera roll, to be able to sync them, either with Photo Stream or by manual sync.

  • Is there any way to stop auto download of operating system such as IOS7 when you are connected to wifi and power?

Auto download is costly when you happen to connect via wifi using your mobile data network.

    You're wrong.
It's been posted on here that users not interested in installing this software update are experiencing forced downloads. It's downloading  the file, of which cannot be deleted. Waiting to be executed to install.
It does this when charging, connected to wifi
Google io7 forced downloads, several articles.
OP, the only way I've read that can stop it, is to not have enough space available. It needs about 2.9, so it's advised to keep your iPad full.
Or turn wifi off when chugging to a wall outlet

  • Downloading a .DAT file

Am having a mental lapse here.
Using DW MX 2004 on XP
I need to create a link where a user (non computer literate)
can download a .DAT file to his.her desktop.
All i get is a "page cannot be found" error page
Does the file has to be a .exe or .zip file for it to open
the dialogue box to for user to save or open or am missing
    something here?
    any hints will be appreciated
    Thks

This is as much a guess as a hint, but I figured that you may
    be able to use
    a "Force Download" script:
You don't mention what server language you're using... I use
    ASP VBSCRIPT
and would use something like I've attempted to explain below:
First of all create a page called "error.asp" - the user will
    be redirected
to this page if the download fails.
Then create a page called "forcedownload.asp" in the same
    folder/directory
Copy and paste the following code to the forcedownload.asp
    page:
    =====>Begin
    <% FileName = (Request.QueryString("FileName"))%>
    <%
    Response.Buffer=true
    On Error Resume Next
    'Create a stream object
    Dim tfm_downloadStream
    Set tfm_downloadStream = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Stream")
    tfm_downloadStream.Type = 1
    tfm_downloadStream.Open
    tfm_downloadStream.LoadFromFile
    Server.Mappath("../../changetofilepath/"&(FileName))
    If Err.number = 0 Then
    Response.Clear
    Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
    Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;
    filename="&(FileName)
    Response.AddHeader "Content-Transfer-Encoding","binary"
    Response.BinaryWrite tfm_downloadStream.Read
    tfm_downloadStream.Close
    Set tfm_downloadStream = Nothing
    Response.End()
    Else
    tfm_downloadStream.Close
    Set tfm_downloadStream = Nothing
    Response.Redirect("error.asp")
    End If
    %>
    =====>End
    (Make sure you change
    "Server.Mappath("../../changetofilepath/"&(FileName))"
to reflect the correct file path to the .dat file)
Then link to forcedownload.asp including the filename in the
    URL under the
    variable "FileName".
For example, the link would read something like:
    "forcedownload.asp?FileName=MyFile.dat" (of course you would
    change "MyFile"
    according to the correct filename)
I don't know if there's some "rule" that prevents .dat files
    from working
with such a script... I've never tried it, but I do use a
    script similar to
the sample above for a number of different file types to be
    downloaded
across a range of different websites.

  • Auto-download season pass TV show episode to Apple TV

Is there a way where I can set Apple TV to auto-download the latest episode of a TV show that I bought a season pass for?
The reason I need this is because, when I try to stream it, depending on the network speed, sometimes it takes a long time. So I have to set it to stream and then pause it in order to let it load up before playing it. I've noticed that network speed is much faster during the day when everyone is at work (so am I) so would love it if Apple TV downloads the latest episode and it is ready to play when I come home.

    patrix99 wrote:
But it must have some storage because I do play the episode, pause it to let it download at least halfway before I play it. So technically, it is not streaming it the way Netflix or Hulu does.
    Correct.
The black AppleTVs have 8GB of solid state memory.
Whereas Netflix adapts quality downwards for slower connections, iTunes purchases/rentals are fixed size and  quality for given resolutions (SD, 720p/1080p), so if your internet is slower than needed to play near instantly some/most/all of the movie will 'buffer' into that 8GB of memory, and the device calculates when enough has arrived to allow it to play without interruption.
The problem is that using AppleTV while a movie is buffering to do other things almost always flushes that buffe/downloaded portion without warning - forcing it to start from scratch when you decide to try to play.  The memory management is simply poor for slow connections -Apple assume everyone has fast/unlimited broadband.  The AppleTV1 was much better in this regard because it actually had proper storage and could hold several rentals.

I'm pretty new to JWS, I want to download a specfic JRE version from my Intranet or from a directory on the Unix server (webserver). Note that only certain version are available for

(grumble) I'd have thought Sun might be able to get
the technology together to generate the list of available
    versions actively (e.g. using JSP/servlets).
There was recently a question why no version
NN available?, my reply linked to the list of
available versions and asked Do you see
    your requested version, listed here?
I probably led the questioner entirely astray.

  • How do I get websites that have streaming data to work?

I use Firefox 1.5.0.7 as my internet browser. There are two websites I want to recieve streaming data from. One is a radio station (www.fan960), the other is a naturecam site (www.orca-live.net/community/index.html). Both sites tell me I have to download vaious players (adobe player and flash player) yet I download them, follow the installation instructions, and they still do not work.
I post this here because I wonder why my MacBook Pro does not already have a player that would work for these purposes. One reason I decided to buy a Mac computer was the selling point that they worked right out of the box. Any suggestions as to what I should do to enjoy these websites to their full extent?

Personally, I use itunes to play radio. It works
    great.
So, I am told, does Quicktime.
How would you go about adding a station to ITunes as these are not listed as available stations?

There are some versions of some browsers (MS IE) that can call a servlet twice; they only look at the headers at the first request, in order to decide whether to display a "save or open" dialog, or some such reason. Try different browsers; also log the User-Agent header to see if it is "contype", which is present when the multiple request thing happens.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q293792
"Connection reset" can also happen if the client closes the connection without reading the entire response. Occasional resets will happen as users cancel download.
Not a source of exceptions but something you may still want to consider when sending large responses: by default, the servlet container will have to buffer the entire file in memory to find out its length. To save memory, either set content length before writing the data, or use chunked encoding (google should find details.) That way your write() actually streams data to the user.

  • How do I stop iPhone Mail from auto-downloading photos/videos?

My sister has had her twins.  We cheered.  Now she sends out 20 to 30mb of photos and videos via email every other day.  The cheering has stopped.
I have a minimal data plan that has served me well for several years.  Now with my sister's constant emailing of attachments, my data plan is in jeopardy within a week of the start of the new month.  Unfortunately, the email address also receives emails that I do want to see while out and about on Mobile.  So deleting the account isn't an option.  She is also a new mother and refuses to not send out kiddo pics.
Is there a way to stop the auto-download of pictures/videos, but receive the body of text in the email from her?  Then I'd know I have pictures waiting for me at home, but I'd have to wait.

There is no such option/setting on an iPhone to determine this. Whether you can view the attachment has more to do with your connection, WiFi or cellular, and the size of the attachment than anything else. There will be a paperclip indicating the message includes an attachment regardless if downloaded with the message or not. When connected to the cellular network, if an attachment is below a designated size the attachment will be downloaded automatically. If over a certain size, you must select the attached file icon in the body of the message to download the attachment. The size limit varies by carrier/provider.
Tell her you're gonna leave her out of the Will if she doesn't stop .

  • IPad Air auto downloads music that plays through wifi

    Hey Gang,
So, first off, I do NOT have auto-downloads on for music, ONLY for updates. I had a couple of playlists downloaded of music, but the iPad kept telling me I was running out of space when I didn't add anything, but it seemed to notify me when I was listening via iCloud.  I tried managing my space through iTunes, but when I'd deselect ANY music my iPad was saying I had 3.4 GBs of music.  When I checked Settings/General/About it kept saying I had 407 songs taking up space.  In iTunes it would show a bunch of songs as if they were just connected through the cloud (which was disabled, as was homeshare), and as you know that should' take up any memory.
I even went through and deleted All Music from the About section and when I restarted, at first it said No Data, but then all of a sudden 407 songs would be there (unfortunately some regrettable purchases too!).  I tried again and I kept watching the tracks go up when I listened to a song through iCloud (other attempts the 407 songs just appeared at once). So I turn my WiFi off; only three songs on the iPad, the ones I just played.  So for whatever reason the iPad was downloading a bunch of songs as I played them (that came back as soon as I turned wifi back on).
I have a feeling when I turn iMatch back on that every song I listen to (via the cloud, supposedly) will start to take up storage space on my iPad, which is total crap.  All my software is up to date, my 27" 3.4GHz i7 iMac is only two years old. I have a feeling it's something to do with Apple not liking all the cds I copied to iTunes and then saved to iCloud (they tend to only want you to buy music through iTunes).
Anyway, I seem to be the only person with this problem on the interwebs.  Let me know if you have any suggestions (reformatted a bunch too).
P.S. I have the same problem on my iPhone 4S, but figured it was just 'cause it's older.  iPad air is totally new!  Probably a IOS7 issue...

The more I think about this, isn't a black screen with the white apple logo the INSTALLATION screen? Not the downloading screen (which is white with a BLACK apple logo...)
Can anyone clear that up?  Thank you!
Ok: the MORE I think about this, that was the installation screen NOT the 7.1.2 download screen because now I remember it asking me to INSTALL it, .... definitely installation screen.
So new question: even though it appeared to not finish installing before I rebooted it, do you think all is fine now?  Thanks!

  • How do you stream data to a HDF5 file?

I have managed to collect data to a hdf5 file but only for the first block of data (100, 1000, 10,000) but I would like to stream data until the hard disk is full or the user stops it. I have placed the HDF5 *.vi's, dll's, on my 'C' Drive.

There are at least 4 HDF5 APIs available for LabVIEW.  Which one are you using?  If you downloaded the sfpFile API from the NI Website, the example I attached below (which also uses NI-SCOPE) should work for you.  You will probably need to relink to the appropriate API VIs when you load it.  If you do not have NI-SCOPE, the example will still give you the info you need.  Treat the scope VI as a generic data source and ignore the VI linking errors from NI-SCOPE VIs on load (you can get the NI-SCOPE driver here).
At each iteration, you need to do the following:
Get the current dataspace from the data on disk.
Extend this dataspace by the amount you will be adding (assumes an extensible data set, you can preallocate the size beforehand if you know what it is, which will make this step unnecessary).
Select a hyperslab on this extended dataspace corresponding to the data you will be writing.
Using the the new dataspace, write your data to disk.
This is a lot more complex than it could be, but that is the nature of HDF5 (very low level, very powerful).  Let us know if you need more information.  Please let us know what version of LabVIEW you are using, if you do.

  • Auto download 1.6.0_10

we have run into a problem that is resolved in 1.6.0_10. We would like to make the install occur from our jnlp.
    Ex:
    <j2se version="1.6.0_10"
It doesnt appear to be available yet from the auto download. Can someone update the servlet to make the download available? Any estimate of when would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running up against the same thing.
    bug # 6669818 - http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6669818
That's causing our web start app to die when trying to connect. It works fine with 1.6.0_10, but not with any release prior to that because we need 1.6.0_05 or later for some sealed libraries that we are using.
Any news on when 1.6.0_10 will be available through the auto-download system would be appreciated.
I noticed that someone from Sun mentioned in these forums that a JRE is usually available from the auto-download URL within a couple of weeks of its release - http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=704112&messageID=4082098
What was the release date for 1.6.0_10 anyway? I see an article from April this year introducing it (http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javase/java6u10/), but no word on when exactly it was officially released.
