Auto-fill like problems

I want to keep Safari from trying to automatically guess what I am typing the browser bar/search bar (where I enter the http://www.xyz.com address). I want to disable the automatic guessing feature. I can't find anything in the Safari help literature. Any suggestions?

Yahoo e-mail will not allow me to add contacts and will not auto fill e-mail addresses, and now I'm having trouble downloading Adobe documents from my bank. All of these problems can be solved by using Internet Explorer, but I prefer Firefox.

Check the Ethernet connection to the AirPort Express. Make sure that the Ethernet connection from the Comcast modem is connected to the WAN port on the back of the AirPort Express. The WAN port is the one with the circle of dots shown over the port.
It sounds like you are connected to the Ethernet LAN port.

BIG problems with iOS 8.2 Safari ("dark mode" menu bar, no auto-fill, etc)... HELP, please?

So I was simply wiping the dust off my screen, with Safari open, and once I had finished... Safari just went belly-up.
And I need some help badly.
First thing that I noticed was that Safari now has a "dark mode" menu bar.
Secondly, my auto-fill user names and passwords no longer "auto-fill" - I have to place the cursor in a field and have the keyboard pop up in order to access the auto-fill function: previously, the fields simply, well, auto-filled.
And, thirdly, when I attempt to post a message to the Apple Support Communities, there is no visible text in the body of the text. I'm using my MacBook Pro to type this message.
I have searched and searched to try to find remedies to my problems, but I can't find a thing. There's nothing unusual in Accessibility (that would make the whole screen, for example, grayscale), nothing changed in passwords, etc.
I'm at my wits end! Even restoring from an older backup doesn't remedy any of the problems.
Can anyone help?

If the menu bar at the top of Safari show white text on a grey background, and autofill isn't working, then you probably have private browsing 'on'. Tap the icon top right of the Safari screen (the square on top of a second square), tap the Private button at the top of the next screen and then Done - Safari should then go back to its normal colours and autofill should work again

Have just migrated from the world of PC's. and I had my set up so that when I typed a new sentence it started with a capital with out me pressing shift. also, i could set up words to self fill like ur would auto correct to your. can this be done with mac

I don't know about the first letter cap but the spelling is simple. Edit - Spelling and Grammar - Select While Typing and Correct Spelling Automatically.

Strange problem with auto-fill addresses in mail and address book

There's an entry in my address book (version 4.0.6) that keeps adding a first name to an entry. I keep deleting it and somehow the first name keeps getting added. I suspected that Mail (2.1.3) was using auto-fill or LDAP to take the name it remembered in Mail and put it in Address Book by associating the email address, so I turned off LDAP and auto-fill and the problem still persists.
As an aside, I use mobileme to sync two macs (Address Book) and a pc (Outlook) so I really want to clear up this problem so the phantom entry does not keep getting transfered to all databases.
Should I delete some cache or something? One other problem (unsure if it's related) is that my Mail application always ask for my keychain password on startup - I have tried the keychain repair app and it seemed to work once, though this problem persists, as well.

Yes. the dot in front makes it invisible.
Show hidden files...
Open the terminal and type or copy/paste:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
Reverting to the default of NOT showing hidden files:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
Reboot or Force Finder quit needed for either change to show.
I'd move them both to the Desktop then reboot, if it works fine then you can Trash them.

Safari auto-fill problem

Hi all.. Since the second last firmware update of my Touch 2nd gen, Safari normally auto-fills website's login forms (thus settings should be okay) except for.. wlan login forms! Therefore, every time I have to manually write down username and password in order to gain network access.. I don't know whether it is a known issue or even a strange "wanted" feature..in any case, there's a way to overcome this annoying problem? Thank you in advance.

The only way I can now stay logged in for an extended period of time is to NEVER quit Safari.
That is not an option for me.

Safari Auto-login/ Auto-fill problem

Hi!
I recently updated my safari after which I have been unable to auto login to my yahoo,gmail etc accounts. I have checked my safari preferences and all 3 auto-fill webform tabs are clicked. Also, when I go into yahoo, it does not prompt me to ask if i want to save my password. For my other accounts e.g gmail, they prompt me and my password + user-ids are still saved, just that i have to press the sign in button.
Also, it stays signed it as long as i am on safari. However, if I were to quit safari and use safari again, it goes back to square one and no longer keeps me signed it.
What can I do to enable safari to auto-login for all my accounts?

Overnight, my Auto Fill button has disappeared, & I'd like it back!

Left computer running overnight. This morning, several buttons are missing, including Auto Fill. (Can't remember what the others were; apparently don't use them much!). Can anyone help me get Auto Fill back?

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar. 
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
* Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

I need to know how to turn off my auto fill i do not like haveing that info accessable to hakers and do not want my computer to remember credit card numbers?

i looked in tools to options and then to privacy but i do not see a box saying remember the text that i type. i do not know if this is a program on firefox or windows that is auto fill.

You can set the pref browser.sessionstore.privacy_level to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the about:config page to disable saving cookies via session restore.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Photomerge - problem with auto fill

I am looking for a manual on how to switch off the auto fill function for Photomerge (once enabled to automatic).
On first use of Photomerge there is the following dialog:

Would you like to automatically fill in the edges of your panorama?
Always perform this action
The question of "Always perform this action" has a checkbox. I did use this checkbox, and now I am looking for a way to reverse that.
I did not find it in the manual, and Google also could not help.
I think in general that to provide such a "hidden option" (and which is not easy to reverse) is NO-GO for good software

Japanese Auto-Fill Problem

Hey All,
I have an iMac running OS X 10.9.4. I purchased the mac in Japan and have found it to be very good when switching between English and Japanese. However, for some reason while I have set-up English as the default language, my computer still auto-fills my name (and my name only) in Japanese. I have tooled around with the "Autofill" section under preferences for Safari but nothing I do seems to change this auto-fill conundrum. I have even gone so far as changing my name on the computer from the Japanese version to the English version but it still auto-fills Japanese whenever I type my name.
Anyone have any good ideas?

HI Jim,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.
Also, some banking and investment sites do not allow for "autofill" due to security.
Of that box was already checked, go to the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons.
You may also need to troubleshoot the Safari .plist file.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

Auto fill passwords is no go

I know this has been discussed a billion times but I can't get in any answers by reading the old posts. Since I'm brand new to Mac this "key chain" deal is just about the most dumbest thing I have ever seen (can you tell I'm ******) lol
I have been a PC user for years. I could type one password in Norton Identy Safe and the computer automatically logged in to pay my bills, forums, and online banking, everything....not with a Mac!!???
I use strong passwords in which they are difficult to type much less remember.
I have brand new MBP 13" with Lion 10.7.4 and have tried keychains, auto fill is "on", etc....
I manually build keychains and they will not work.
It was doing good at first by asking would I like to remember passwords, username, but it quit. I mean it actually autofilled there for a short period of time but "poof" its gone now. Everything is still there in keychains...just not working.
Help would be greatly appreciated!

I've got the same problem. Migration Assistant moved everything else over okay, but for some reason Safari can't connect to all the usernames and passwords that are stored in the Keychain. iChat could and NetNewsWire could... but the AutoFill stuff just isn't working. And I'm looking at all of them in Keychain Access right now!

ITunes 10 Auto Fill Free Space Results in "Over Capacity" Warning.

In iTunes 9 when i had "Automatically fill free space with songs" checked, it would fill my iPhone to about 100MB or so short of full. Very full, but enough space left to be able to download some apps or maybe some music directly to my phone.
In iTunes 10, clicking the very same option results in iTunes telling me that my phone will now be 0.34GB Over Capacity. I tried to do things like unsync large video files, but nothing seems to work. If i unclick "Auto fill" I have 9GB empty, but as soon as i put it back on it jumps over the limit.
Anyone else having this problem?

Hi, had similar problem on iPad.
Overcame this by setting manual sync on the summary page as mentioned by John Ruffel previously.
then created a smart play list (File menu or ctrl Alt N) with the following rule:
'Size' 'is greater than' '1' MB
Limit to (check box) 12 GB selected by random Note change to suit your device capacity
Save
Give the smart play list a sensible name.
Select it to check there is some music in it.
If you are happy then drag it to your device, which should then sync automatically.
It worked for me, good luck.

Drop down menus, context menus and auto fill menus items don't appear!

I have FF4 beta, this started since FF4 beta 7. I work on Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
The problem is that I can't see drop down menus unless they have alot of items, nor context menus (like highlighting a text then right-clicking it), auto fill bars don't show the auto fill info entered before .. the menu itself appears, kinda. but it's transparent and the I can't see the items, don't know where to click to select the thing I want.
I haven't got this problem before 4.0b7 .. after I got it, I thought it was one of the plugins, so I disabled them all but still have the problem!

Hardware accelaration disabled also worked for me. ATI Radeon 4670.
Seems the issue isn't set on one type of card. My flicker/vanish only did so on my secondary monitor.

How to auto-fill cell without incrementing it's number (a PO Box)

I sometimes need to auto fill rows of a person's identifying information which might contain a PO Box number. The PO Box number gets incremented when I copy a single line. Two lines of the same info produce a third with the correct result but if one line is auto filled (with yellow handle) the resulting cell has a box number that is 1 greater than the one above. How can I turn off the incrementing feature? I can copy and paste but would prefer to use auto fill as necessary.

Thanks for suggestion. I noticed that that problem seems confined to cell with mixed content (text & number- PO Box) but not to number-as-text (zip code). Seems like a coding oversight. I sent a note to Apple. Unlikey that I am only one with problem.
