Auto-import Presets

I searched the forum(s) for this request but didn't find anything that seemed relevant, so here goes (and my apologies if this has been requested before or is already available through some option I missed): I use auto-import all the time -- it's a standard part of my workflow for new images from my cameras, whether tethered or not. To cope with the half dozen or so different scenarios and situations that are repeatedly part of those workflows, I'd like to be able to have a pull-down list of named auto-import presets under the auto-import preferences dialog. This would cover things like location the imported files are moved to, canned metadata to be applied, processing, etc. in named configurations.
Not a huge deal, but it'd certainly make my life somewhat easier and less error-prone while out in the field....

I second that. Plus an option just to watch a folder, instead of auto-copy only

  • Include mask overlay with Auto Import preset.

    It would be nice to automatically show an overlay mask in the picture as you Auto Import it via the Watched folder.
    Most of the digital back software have this mask overlay posssibility.
    All it does is it obscures the area you don't want to see (a bit like the crop tool, with adjustable black opacities, but without actually cropping the image).
    The reasoning behind this is that you often need to take pictures with plenty of surrounding space in your layout, for instance, blank space to the right of left of the image for putting text, or to allow for multiple output formats, but at the time of viewing, you just want to concentrate on the masked area, free from distractions.
    Art directors are always asking for this: "What would it look like when it's cropped?" You can go to the crop tool and show them, but it would be better and quicker to have an auto import overlay mask which you can flick on and off.

    Sounds like another use for TPI's. Transparent PNG Images (Id Plates) that only have limited use and one at a time, now. Currently only usable in Slideshow and Print.
    See TPI's at Downloads
    Lightroom Extra. We have been asking for expanded use of TPI's (which can be used for Framing and Watermarking) in Export and Web and now you have presented one more potential use bringing the need for there expanded capabilities even more to the fore.

  • Improve auto-import for tethered capture...

    Simply add an option to have new images automatically inherit the develop settings of the previous image (all settings including crop).
    Currently, when shooting tethered, I capture and adjust an image - but before I can go back to camera I need to create a new develop preset and point to it in auto-import settings (simply re-saviing the current preset doesn't work). However, this doesn't consistently hold the crop -- and so much commercial work is shot to a specific layout or proportion. Instead, I rely on the previous and/or sync function. Ideally, there would be a way to know that the new images would easily auto import with the same look as previous photos.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    This would be more readily solved by adding crop to develop presets, which is useful for other purposes also.

  • Lightroom 2.1 Auto import file naming adding -1

    I have used lightroom's (2.1) auto import function on 5 separate shoots with no problem. On my last shoot lightroom has been adding a "-1" to the file name. I am using "Custom name - Original File". So what used to be "Jen-1007" is now "Jen-1-1007", "Jen-1-1008", "Jen-1-1009", etc. I tried to use the other methods of naming but a -1 still comes up in some part of the file name. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

    First I would check the file naming preset to make sure that it hasn't been accidentally edited, then I would choose a new empty location to write to (destination).

  • Import Preset Qustion or Request

    A general workflow question. This is something that has bothered me about controlling the import workflow but is there anyway to set the import location if your importing from you internal HD. I can understand it was made to behave with importing from the auto detected camera card, but I would really love to be bale to set a general folder location in my import preset my workflow doesn't involve camera cards. I know it holds onto the location from my previous import location but like everything I have to deviate once and a while and I would love to be able to add a general root folder to the preset. I have a feeling no but would love to request this feature in the future.

    If you save an Import preset, it remembers the destination (assuming you've used Copy or Move, not Add, which has no destination). By setting the Root Folder, and using One Folder, into Subfolder you can give each Import a new subfolder name as desired, or just use a date structure.

  • Auto Importing in Aperture

    I would love to shoot tethered with my Nikon D3 and have images go directly into Aperture.  I realize Aperture has a tethering feature, but my clients have become spoiled by Live View and being able to see small changes on the screen before pressing the button.  So is there any way to shoot with Nikon Camera Control Pro and direct files to a folder where Aperture would automatically import them?  I just read instructions on setting it up for LightRoom w/ auto import, but I don't use Light Room ;-)

    Adding to Frank's spot-on instructions:  I settled on having a dedicated Finder folder on my system drive, and a dedicated Project in Aperture.  This should give you a base to vary to your needs.  The Finder folder is named "To Hot Upload to Aperture". It can be anywhere on your system.  The Project is "_Hot Uploads".  (The underscore forces it to the top of an alpha-sorted list.)  My Sony software retains the setting of which Finder folder to put the images in.  I set the Folder Action to delete the originals.
    I take a picture.  Camera sends image file to Sony software→Sony software puts file in "To Hot Upload to Aperture"→Folder Action forces Aperture to import file into Project "_Hot Uploads".  In use I put the Sony software on one monitor and Aperture on another, with "_Hot Uploads" selected.
    NB:  Because you are importing this way, no metadata presets are applied.
    When the session is over, I move all the Images into a newly created Project (I always put each Shoot in its own Project) and I run "Metadata→Batch Change" to apply my standard metadata preset (copyright and so forth).  That leave both "To Hot Upload to Aperture" and "_Hot Uploads" empty, and ready for the next session.

  • LR2 - Auto Import develop settings won't stick.

    As the subject says, in LR2 changes made to the develop settings preference in the auto import settings dialogue do not stick. I can select a different develop preset, but after closing the settings dialogue, new images import with the original preset. If I open the settings window again, the develop settings preference has been reset to their original state.
    I've tried two computers and have the same result on both. Trashing prefs does nothing, but creating a new catalog seems to reset the auto import prefs dialogue, but whatever develop settings I select becomes fixed and unchangeable.
    I use LR's auto import feature to work tethered with my MF digital setup on every project - it is crucial to my current workflow. This bug is small, but significant and will probably have me going back to V1 until I can find a fix so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andy
    (oh yeah, both systems are intel macs -- an iMac and a macbook pro -- and are up to date running osX 10.5.4)

    Yes, I get the same thing with the sliders being greyed out. Funny thing is that the sliders *are* set exactly as in my preset and when I click 'yes update' to 2010 standards, the settings don't change but only the sliders become accessible. The thing is that I really don't want to be doing that with every import, even if you can do the whole batch at once. What I don't understand is that when I import with the preset turned off and apply it in Lightroom's Develop Module, it accepts it without a problem but that when I use the same preset on import, it won't work properly.
    Now what the poster in the other thread said was:
    "When I saved a new preset and selected to also save the process version,  a line in the preset was created:  ProcessVersion = "5.7".  When I cut  and paste that into all my other presets then the sliders were all  active when I used them."
    I have no idea what he is talking about or how one would do that. When I create a preset I simply click the + sign and in the pop up window select what I want, give it a name and that's it.
    Edit: Sorry, I apparently overlooked the Process Version box in the preset panel! Must have been a case of not seeing the forest for the trees. Problem solved. Thanks.

  • Auto import Metadata

    I shot using an eye-fi card. The card autmatically generates a xmp file with geodata in it.
    LR auto imports these images and adds lens correction and a copy right tag.
    What I can't do is automatically is get LR to read the xmp file and include this in the catalogue. I am having to right click images and select read metadata from file.
    There must be a better work flow then this.

    Thanks Rob. Here is a more detailed explaination of my workflow.
    my Eye-fi card syncs images to either my PC, smart phone or tablet. Each device upload the image to a Dropbox folder.
    On the PC, in my Dropbox folder 2 files exist, 1 NEF & 1 xmp.
    The xmp file reads (as an example)
    <?xpacket begin="" id="W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d"?>
    <x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="XMP Core 4.4.0">
       <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#">
          <rdf:Description rdf:about=""
                xmlns:exif="http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/">
             <exif:GPSLatitude>51,19.032000N</exif:GPSLatitude>
             <exif:GPSLongitude>0,35.724000W</exif:GPSLongitude>
          </rdf:Description>
       </rdf:RDF>
    </x:xmpmeta>
    <?xpacket end="r"?>
    LR(4.4) is set to auto import from the Dropbox folder using develop & metadata preset.
    The develop preset is set just to apply auto lens correction (lens detection is scene in the developing screen).
    The metadata is set to add IPCT copyright information only i.e all other boxes left unchecked
    I understand there is a chance for LR to auto import too quickly if LR is running when Dropbox syncs as the xmp file may not be present at the same time as the NEF file but I very rarely have LR running when Dropbox syncs.

  • Auto import, how to prevent LR from jumping to new pictures

    Hi,
    I would like to use my Nikon D700 together with the WT-4 to send pictures automatically to my laptop on events.
    The pictures appear on the laptop's hard drive on a folder that is watched by LR's auto import feature.
    Then my assistant would be at the laptop printing these pictures for customers to buy.
    However, while testing this I cannot seem to disable Lightroom always jumping back to the latest imported pictures.
    This is very annoying, because my assistant has to display the pictures to the customers, so she would be showing some pictures to a customer, and suddenly when I snap a new shot, the laptop jumps to the new picture and my assistant has to go hunting for that customers pictures again...
    Is there some way to disable this?
    Or am I taking the wrong approach to this?
    I could off course disable the auto-import but in that case my assistant would have to go to the import screen every once in a while, which is also not ideal.
    Thanks for any help!

    I don't know a way to disable this.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

    Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
    Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
    Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
    I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
    My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
    My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
    Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

    I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • After unarchive a repository, the auto import is not working

    Hi All,
    I've met a problem when I archived a repository and unarchive it using another repository name:
    I can login to it by Console, and Data manager, etc. But when I put a input file to the Ready folder of its port, the file is not processed by the Import Server. On the other hand, all the other repositories on that server remain fine and the auto-import is normal.
    Could any one tell me if there is any other Config shold be done to make the import work?
    PS: still the 5.5 version, not 7.1.
    Thanks,
    Angela

    Hi Angela,
    If you are using any password for Admin user then same needs to be mentioned in MDIS.ini file. Check the below steps
    1. Open MDIS.ini file located in <MDM Insallation directory>/Import Server
    2. Navigate to your repository section
    3. Remove the character 'E' from the entry PasswordE
    4. Write the password of Admin user i.e. Password = abc
    5. Restart the Import Server once and check the same password entry, it should get converted to PasswordE and the value should be some characters.
    6. Now check the Auto Import

  • How do I stop iMovie 11 auto importing from external HD?

    Okay, I'm going crazy. I, the intrepid Googler, have so far been unable to find the answer to this question. Please somebody help me!
    I have hundreds of video clips stored on an external hard drive. However, when I crank it up, iMovie exceptionally irritatingly starts auto-importing every single clip back onto my MacBook's hard drive. No! No! NOOOO! That's NOT what I want! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! I only want to import ONE video of MY choice at a time to edit and then save it back to the external drive, I don't have enough ROOM for ALL of them on the internal drive, you crazy machine!!!!
    So. I go into iMovie preferences, where I'd expect to see an option for turning off auto import. Nope. I cannot see anything there. Do I have menu blindness? Am I losing my mind?
    Then I Google 'how to stop iMovie 11 from auto-importing from external hard drive and find nothing. Am I alone in this? Surely not. Am I being a dunce? Possibly.
    Advice, anyone?

    Okay. Please ignore the above. I was being a dunce. Today, it appears not to be doing it any more. Bizarre. LOL!

  • Auto Import CD then Eject unreliable (works half the time)

    I'm trying to re-rip my large collection of CDs, so I set my iTunes General Preferences to:
    When you insert a CD: [Import CD and Eject]
    Unfortunately, it doesn't work half the time. When it does work, it works as you might expect. I insert the CD, it spins up, iTunes mentions that it is looking up the track info online, and then it starts importing. When it's done it ejects. Perfect.
    However, sometimes I insert the CD and things go differently. It spins up, iTunes acts like it's doing something, but then it stops as if no CD were present. There's no CD listed on my desktop nor on the left panel of iTunes. My only option here is to use the top menu bar Eject -> Eject Superdrive tool, then reinsert. The second insertion of the CD makes it work as listed in the previous paragraph.
    At first it seemed to fail every few CDs, but now I have to do the in-out-in thing on every CD. Because this requires MORE attention on my part than doing it the normal, manual way, I have resorted to the old manual way. Insert CD, iTunes shows the CD, and then I say Import. Then I manually eject.
    Anyone know why the auto feature isn't working reliably?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Actually the problem seems unrelated to whether I have auto-import turned on or not. The problem appears to be general, and related to CD identification.
    I notice when it fails that iTunes has begun doing the CDDB (or whatever it's called now) lookup, but that only flashes briefly and then it goes away as if there were no CD in the drive. I eject, immediately reinsert, and it works the next time.
    Now that I'm nearly done re-ripping my collection (450 CDs), I'd estimate that it fails to see/recognize/mount 1 out of every 5 CDs on the first try.

  • Amazon MP3 purchases no longer auto import and cannot be added manually to iTunes 11

    I purchase quite a bit of my digital music from Amazon and the latest track I purchased since upgrading to iTunes 11 did not auto import to iTunes as it had in the past.  Additionally I tried to add the song manually from the file directory (dragging it into itunes, double clicking, and trying to add from the drop down menu in itunes).  The problem is not with the file because I am able to open it in QuickTime and other applications.  Is this a known issue or am I missing something?
    nevermind, the solution in this thread worked for me:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4555469?tstart=0

    I have managed to find a version of itunes 11.4 and I have the same issue in that version, so the new itunes might not have been the source of the problem.

  • Disable auto import function?

    I want to disable the auto import function in iTunes, but can not find the setting.
    My problem is I download a new song into a temp directory, immediately iTunes opens and imports the song into the iTunes library. I DO NOT want iTunes to import the song at this time. I want to move the song to my MP3 folder first.
    This is a real pain because I have to first delete the song from iTunes then move the song file, then import the song again from the MP3 folder. If anyone knows a way around this please let me know.
    Thanks!
