Auto Levels and other adjustments

Just a small question..will auto levels and other adjustments degrade a photo quality. I most of the times use auto levels before developing a photo and I want to make sure that I keep the same quality of the original image after using adjustments.
Thanks in advance.

If you  have limited skills-two schools of thought.   Quality will be better if you fine tune- if you put in a little more time-learn full Photoshop, but not everyone has the time-interest or capibilities.
1) If U R only WANT to make basic changes--check out the IMAGE drop-down in PS.  You can auto adjust -Color-Tone and Contrast by  just clicking on the drop-down.
Are you asking this Q in order becaus you have limited time put into your images?  If so, then your capibilities should drive your actions.   Go auto but know with digital photography, anyone can take a great shot.
2)  If you want to do more with your phontography, learn more about Photoshop CS. 8 months ago-I thought I understood PS. Then I got serious about it. The difference is stunning
Bottom line-you will learn more by trial and error-reading-online info and video. There is a great deal of info out there.
With the advent of digital photogrphy-even rookies can come up with amazing images. Dont short change yourself  by being lazy-or just going "auto-all." Make your photos shine
Take your best shot--invest more time-in Photoshop.  There is magic out there. Find it
Good luck

  • Broadcasting of workbooks, auto-refresh and other questions

    Hello Reporting gurus.
Our users run BEX Analyser queries but this is evolving towards more automation and fancy things. A lot of threads exist on the subject but I have not been able to find clear answers. We are on BI 7.
    1) How do we use the broadcaster to refresh workbooks and output the results to a network share drive.
    2) Queries being part of the workbooks work with user input variables. Do I have to change all queries (or create new ones identical) with user exits variables to fill in the fields for auto-refreshing w(ith let say the current year and current fiscal period etc...) ?
    3) Is it possible to create a parameter input screen to pass on variables values to the broadcaster before the auto-refresh takes place so that I don't have to create user exit variables ?
    4) How can we view workbooks with the BEX WEB Analyser ? Or do we have to create an application with WAD ?
    Thanks

    Hi Yves,
in Analyzer you have an menu entry publish with BI broadcaster, then a broadcaster will appear. there you can create a setting. inside that setting you can use a variant and with SPS 13 also variable sets. There you can define the users who should receive the updated workbook by mail. It is not possible to save to file system, but you can save in Portal.Web Analyzer is only to use with WAD and is not able to process Workbooks.
    best regards,

  • E17 on a fresh Arch Linux + gtk apps... auto mounting and other issues

    hi all...
I have gone through the forums and found a similar but-not-quite-the-same thread about this, which is why I am posting a new thread - so, please excuse any redundancy/laziness.
As the topic says, I am making a new Arch Install, on my laptop that has/had arch+kdemod on it for quite some time now. I have now tarred that old install and put it on my desktop that has more RAM than this lappy. So I went with a minimalist approach - after googling for long, I managed to put together something that takes up about 350 MB RAM, when running the desktop, firefox, mplayer, openoffice, two or three terminals, and conky - which is all pretty good. But I am having some teething troubles in many issues, so any help in the following is most appreciated.
    My set-up and the problems....
WM - e17, from the repos (I tried, but could not get the easy_e17 script to work properly)
    FM - emelfm2
            - I am not able to get my USBs, CDs, DVDs etc to mount automagically. I have HAL from the repos. This is my fstab.
    /dev/cdrom             /media/cd   auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    /dev/dvd               /media/dvd  auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/fd0               /media/fl   auto    user,noauto             0      0
This setup gave me no trouble at all when using Arch-Kdemod. Now I have to be root to mount from the command line, and can not auto mount cd/dvd/USBs.
E17 file manager enabled is also no help.
    browser - firefox, dillo
    terminal - mrxvt
    editor - leafpad
    audio - mpd + sonata
    video - gmplayer
    sys monitor - conky
cd/dvd burner - recorder, from the repos
    Openoffice, PSPP for statistics
    Pidgin
    Wengophone2
at the moment I am behind a proxy and haven't yet tried it, but can anyone confirm it is still working...?
    epdfview
    chmsee
    rtorrent
    feh, exhibit
    dreamchess
That is the whole setup, in case it helps someone.
Thanks for reading, and waiting for suggestions about the auto mount issue.

    hi all...
    Thanks for the replies.
@fingel... That udev rules addition on the wiki gave me the jitters initially as it looked like I was hacking away at my systems innards, BUT, after trying everything else, including things mentioned here, nothing worked. So I finally did the udev thing, and now the USB is mounting fine.
However I still cannot get DVDs or CDs to mount. I am added to the optical group, and yet I have to click the mount icon in emelfm2 to be able to mount the CD or DVD - the only consolation is that I am able to mount it as normal user.
Any help there....? I haven't modified anything from the usual install, except for this udev thingy.
And, How can I make the mrxvt terminal show me more lines on scrolling up. Now it is allowing me to scroll up only by 10 lines or so, and I am having to pipe through less to be able to view anything meaningful in commands like yaourt -Ss

  • Auto level with temporal smoothening not found in PE13

The manual of Adobe Premiere Elements 13 describes on page 133 that Auto levels can be done with temporal smoothening as an effect. I currently do auto levels with the adjustments menu. But then the level seems to be adjusted for each single picture causing sometimes colored flickering. For some scenes, this causes really an impressive appearance, for some color flickering which looks like outdated old films...
The problem is just that I can't find this effect described in the menu. According to the description it should do exactly what I need. But I can find an effect called auto level.
The reason why I tried this is to correct the colors of my underwater film. The colors are shifted. Auto level mostly compensates this.
    I'm running PE13 on OS X 10.10.
    Thanks for your help !

    mkc2lr
Temporal smoothing remains in 13/13.1, at least in 13/13.1 Windows.
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, and there is temporal smoothing option associated with auto levels in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13/13.1 Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 64 bit.
Please see the following which specially answers that question
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11&12: AutoLevels/Temporal Smoothing
    Quick summary....for Expert workspace
    Adjust Tab
    Adjustments Palette
Lighting Panel expanded and its AutoLevels option
Then look to the Timeline video clip rubberband....right click Opacity in the Timeline clip's title bar, see Auto Level choice and its temporal smoothing option there. (Please refer to link for details).
Please let us know if this Premiere Elements 13/13.1 Windows opportunity is available to you on Premiere Elements 13/13.1 Mac.
    Thank you.

  • Batch Auto Levels

    Can I batch Auto Levels?
My pre-Aperture workflow was very simple for most jobs: copy card to disk, rename in Bridge, batch auto levels and a bit of curve adjustment plus sharpening in Photoshop and deliver to client.
I'd love to do all that in Aperture and I can - apart from the Auto Levels, as far as I can see.
If I lift an Auto Levels adjustment from an image and apply it to other files it doesn't look at each file individually - it just takes the adjustment from the first file and applies is to the others, even though it probably won't be appropriate.
    Help!
    Paul

    Paul,
This has been discussed several time before but in a nutshell: you can apply auto levels to an image and then life-and-stamp that to other images, but all that does is to copy the adjustments AL made, not perform the AL function itself on the target images.
This is fine if all images need the same adjustment, but not good if each image is unique.
I think that when lifting-and-stamping auto functions, you should have the choice to stamp the actual adjustment made or the function itself.
I have filled in Aperture feedback accordingly.
    Regards,
    Steve

  • Auto smart fix, auto levels, auto contrast Where on cs4

I have photoshop cs4 and I cannot find the Auto smart fix, auto levels, and auto contrast nor the adjustment for each that I had with photoshop elements.

It's not a matter of version numbers.  Photoshop has never had anything called "Auto Smart Fix".
Photoshop Elements usually contains various watered-down "preset" options for beginner users as opposed to more advanced users using the Full PS.  Options such as the Red-eye Reduction Tool and if you go far enough back Page Curl in Photoshop LE are examples.
If you are refering to versions as the difference between PS Elements and PS or PS Extended then you are correct they do not have "Auto Smart Fix".
Auto Levels and Auto Contrast are available under the IMAGE Menu.  However it looks as though Auto Levels has been renamed as "Auto Tone" in CS4.  Prior to this it was in fact "Auto Levels" through most version numbers of Photoshop.

  • Timezone abbreviation meanings and other timezone info

    Hi All,
I'm working as an Enterprise Architect for a multinational with multiple breeds of database all over the place.
I'm trying to ensure that the entire organisation is using the same (correct) timezone definitions and I need some confirmation and have some questions around oracles implmentation. Apologies if I'm missing the blindingly obvious....
As I understand it, Oracle lists the timezones either in file timezonelrg.dat or timezone.dat these are machine-readable contains information on timezone and abbreviation that users can see via V$TIMEZONE_NAMES. The information is based on Olson's zoneinfo.
There are often multiple abbreviations for a timezone, these refer to daylight saving and other adjustments that can be applied to that timezone area.
Timezone.dat also has offset information connected with the timezones and abbreviations. This is used for automatic daylight saving. It can only be accessed using a function.
    Is this correct?
If so....Where do I find a list of the abbreviations, their meanings and the offsets (the Oracle Database Globalisation Support guide only lists 6 meanings, there are lots more)?
Is there a place that I can find a complete human-readable version of the zoneinfo database?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Cheers
    Paul

You can obtain a list of time zone names and time zone abbreviations from the time zone file that is installed with your database by entering the following statement:
    SELECT tzname, tzabbrev FROM v$timezone_names;
    (Ref: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10749/ch4datetime.htm)
However, a slightly bigger list can also be found at
    http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/

  • Auto Exposure and Auto Levels

I have yet to figure out if it is possible to apply both auto exposure and levels to multiple images, and I do not mean lifting and stamping the same settings. If not this is #1 on my wish list.

I initially thought this was a glaring omission from the beginning. However, these auto functions have such unpredictable effects on images that they really do need individual application and review anyway. Not being able to batch apply them just enforces good practice going image by image so that one doesn't wind up with a bunch of badly adjusted images. Adjusting similar images with lift and stamp is more prudent though deserving of individual review as well.

  • 2.1.4 and Auto-Levels

Every Time... and I mean every time that I update Aperture I seem to lose the Auto-Levels Function to one degree or another.
The markers in the levels panel will shift either all the way left or all the way right resulting in a totally black or totally white photo. The histogram disappears at the same time.
I am getting very tired of these constant upgrade bugs.. is this a professional application or not...
(I have not upgraded to Snow Leopard yet)

Have a look at this thread: I am running aperture 2.1.4 and am considering purchasing the latest version. will my photos, projects, and folders etc. transfer over automatically ?
i.e. at the post of Mark Jost at the end of the thread.
It looks like you might run into problems.

  • Lock in auto levels, contrast, and color?

I was doing some editing earlier and used auto color, auto contrast, and auto levels. The results look great, but they seem to change throughout the footage. is there any way i can "lock" the settings?

Hmmm. i wish there was a way to copy what settings it chose to a normal effect layer. I think it did a pretty good job with the footage, it's too bad I can't see what settings it chose for certain frames and apply them to the entire clip.
I use Looks and Colorista, but sometimes these auto corrections are much quicker and look almost exactly the same as what I create otherwise.

  • Can a CR work only for one aggregation level and not other ?

    Hi Experts,
I have a real time infocube (RTIC) over which there is a multiprovider, on top of which I have built 2 aggregation levels.
There are sequence of 2 characteristic relationships (CR's based on exit class) defined for the same RTIC.
Is it possible that the CR's be functional for one aggregation level and not in case of second aggregation level ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Pankaj

Additionally let me explain the scenario in more detail:
The difference between 2 mentioned aggr levels is that of 0CALMONTH which is checked in second aggr level.
0CALMONTH is assigned as target char in first CR, hence both the CRu2019s work for input ready report built on first aggregation level and do not function with input ready report built over second aggregation level.
Therefore I wish to skip the complete execution of CRu2019s for I-R reports based on 2nd aggregation level.
As CR of type with derivation is functional only if the target char selected is not present in the aggregation level.
Please let me know if any more details are required.
    Thanks,
    Pankaj

  • Auto correct the inputs received to Initial Capital and other letter small

    Hi,
    Please help to solve this..
In HRMS is there any auto correct the inputs received to Initial Capital and other letter small in HRMS. E.g. If data is received by HRMS as 'RAMA' HRMS should auto correct to 'Rama' from legacy system(Input Files)
    Thanks-

Is this a migration question? If so, you can apply a mask to the source data at the point of calling the api, e.g.
    p_last_name => INITCAP(source_last_name),
    etc

  • Auto levels on import preset

I tried a search to see how you can get AP3 to do an "auto levels" adjustment during import, but I am not sure how to do it. If I do an "auto" adjust on an image and then create a preset, does AP3 apply the levels based on that particular file used, or will it actually look at each file individually and make the correct adjustment for each file during the import? Or is there a different way to correctly apply auto levels during import?
    Thanks in advance.

this is fairly easy. the only thing you have to do is create an adjustment preset to do just that.
    steps:
1-click on an image and go to the Adjustments tab
2-apply auto-levels on that image (and nothing else)
3-in the Presets drop box, choose Save as Preset (Aperture is intelligent enough to remember you've applied the Auto-levels)
4-in the preset management box, give it some name
5-on following imports, just apply this preset to your images on import and voilà.
