Auto linking from In Design to a Folio?!

Hi Guys
We recently just signed up to DPS and had our first day of training yesterday. However, my production guys made it very clear that we needed links in our editions to be picked up automatically. We were told that a script existed that would do this, picking up embedded links in a PDF.
Question 1: Is this the case? Does such a script exist!?
Secondly, I need to know, if my production team is creating a page/edition in In Design, with URLs in the text, can these urls in the articles be picked up and hyperlinked automatically by DPS? But retaining the page dimensions so that we don't need to redesign the entire thing... does that make sense? Do we need to export directly as a folio? Or can we do later working from the print ready pdf?!
Apologies for the somewhat haphazard post, but I'm not production, just trying to figure things out. Basically our magazines have a lot of links in the body of text and it has been suggested that we may need to link these manually, so I need to find what options we have to circumvent that and find a way for In Design/DPS to pick them up and link automatically.

Are you referring to a placed PDF? If so, no, there is no way to get any
live links in that PDF to work. A PDF is placed as a graphic.
The answer is also no to your second question, but you can try the auto
convert URLs to hyperlinks command. The problem with that is that hyperlinks
can be kind of wonky. I prefer no fill/no stroke buttons for that.
It sounds like you think this is going to be piece of cake. While it's not
difficult it is quite time consuming.

Document Link from Query Designer

In Query Designer when you right click on any Key Figure or Characteristics there is an option for "Documents", when you click on this it opens up BW GUI screen and shows the Meta Data Document for that Characteristics or KF. Is there a setting to show these documents in Internet explorer instead of BW GUI?

U can check the document setting in query properties where an icon will automatically display in Bex Analyzer as well as in Bex web , Once u click that link then it will automatically open in the web browser.

My editor would like to link from an article in one folio to an article published in a previous month's folio. Is this do-able?

m'kay, dunno if I'll use this "you didn't hear it from me" feature, cause i got to link 80 articles in 3 folios (each time), and i'd beter find a solution that works everytime.
Means, gotta put all this in a single folio. WIll be a mess, but i got to have to have it working in the end ...
Still, I wonder why it is so hard to have "basic links" like "navto://folioname1:article2" ?
Especially in cases (like this one, actually) where i'm the only one to use this on my content viewer and in my folio producer (but in all case would be even better of course).

Trouble saving a pdf from In Design with Illustrator files linked.

I have trouble saving a pdf from In Design. Most of the files i've linked are Illustrator files with size up to 70mb.
I am getting out of memory message The In Design file isn't that big - about 9mb.
HELP!!!!!!

It did not help to close and reopen it.
Not sure what you mean with exporting in chunks but if you mean exporting page for page , so it didn't work either.
I think that i'll try to reduce the size of Illustrator files , but I 'm not sure what will be the optimum size for that In Design won't crush again.
Or maybe i should make the presentation in illustrator instead? It take some time to save pdf from illustrator when the original file is about 90mb, but still it works.

Link from Web Content overlay to another article

Thinking caps on, guys. I am trying to reduce the overall size of a folio that contains a pop-out panel (a two-state MSO) that reveals image thumbnails in a vertical scrolling content frame. Each thumbnail is a button that takes the user to another article in the folio. The panel is repeated across all articles, which is handy for the user but wasteful in file size.
In theory, I ought to be able to reduce the file size of the pages containing these panels if I was to replace the vertical scrolling content frame with a tall Web Content frame that would point to an appropriately designed HTML doc in HTMLResources.zip. This would minimise repetition of all those thumbnails.
The problem, if you haven't already guessed it, is that DPS does not allow you to link from a Web Content overlay to folio articles. The 'navto://' convention simply won't work in this scenario.
Is there ANY way to jump a Web Content frame to other locations in the folio? A non-standard, non-supported workaround would do me just fine.

Ali - Check out the new "Linking" article in the Advanced Overlays issue of DPS Tips. It explains how to use an unsupported method for cross-folio linking. I explained how to create buttons with this format, but the same format would work using <a href="URL"> in HTML.

How to take Auto backup from External Network Drive to Mac pro internal Dri

I have a External Network Drive (Buffalo 1TB) which i use as a server, now i need to take auto backup from that external drive to the Mac i am working on, which has 2TB Internal hard Disk.

If you are looking to actually integrate what you have on the external one terabyte hard drive with the 2 TB hard drive you're using inside the Mac the best move for you if you want access to that data when using the Mac Pro server is going into utilities click on the top bar where it says go fall that down to the utilities told them that folder quickly once you are there you will see migration assistant click on that you will be asked to type your admin password to that. It will ask you "how do you want to transfer your information" then select from a Time machine backup or other disk when it asks you will be transferring information to your Mac Pro from your 1 Tb backup external hard drive once it's finished eject the drive or reformat it and use it again if your objective was to infect keep compress the data on the external so you have more space but do not have access to it I strongly recommend Carbon Copy Clone 3.3.1 is 100% free and does a fantastic job here is the link http://www.pure-mac.com/downloads/carboncopyclonerdl.html of copying every block to create an exact replica of your source hard drive. Multiple problems installing upgrade from CS5 Design Prem. to CS6 Design Prem.

I had started a thread a few days ago regarding problems that I was having while installing my upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium. Everything seemed to install fine with the exception of Acrobat X Pro. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4716847#4716847
I thought that I had resolved the issue through tech support, but apparently not. First of all, they had me install the trial version of Acrobat X which actually let me install with no errors. A couple of days passed and Acrobat asked if I would like to continue my trial or enter a serial number. I tried to use my serial that came with my upgrade but it rejected it, so I opted to continue the trial. Then earlier today as I was working in InDesign, upon launching I got a script error message.

Cannot open resource file.
After clicking OK it seemed to open InDesign fine and I was able to open files and go about working. While working I noticed that I had no effects in the dropdown menu under 'Object'. Tried the shortcut for them and nothing happened. I have yet to try to open any files containing effects (drop shadow or something) but am guessing that they will not work. My next course of action was to try to Uninstall and Re-Install. I removed CS6 and Acrobat X Pro from my computer and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner program. Then instead of installing the upgrade from the DVD, I decided to download the program from the Adobe LWS and give that a go thinking that maybe the download files are more up-to-date than the DVD that I recieved. Now it seems I am back to square one with the same problems (InDesign missing 'Effects' and who knows what else, and Acrobat X Pro failed to install), but this time I have diffent errors on the "error summary file" that shows up as a link in the "Installation Complete" dialog box. Sorry for being windy, but I really need to get this resolved. Thanks for any and all input. PC is Dell Precision T3500 running Windows 7 and is current on it's updates.

How link from html page to a specific frame in flash cs5 as3

Hi!
I'm kinda new around here. I am interested in knowing how to link from a specific html page to a specific frame in flash cs5 as3.
I have a website that I originally began to design in flash but later started developing new pages for it in html. The flash part of it has several pages on different frames and I have created links from the flash part to the other html pages, but, I can only link the html pages back to the main flash home page, and not the other pages in the flash part of the website.
I have read that in cs3 it was possible using the flashvars skip variable, but I don't know how to do it. I have not yet seen any working examples and I could not find any instructions / tutorials online for cs5.
Can someone help here?

add a query string, to the swf's embedding html, with variable/value indicating the frame you want to display in your swf. add a javascript function to return the query string (or entire url), call the javascript function from flash using the externalinterface class. and finally add code to your swf to parse the returned url or query string, parse it and then direct your timeline to the appropriate frame.

How does one get a simple URL link onto the Designer Form?

Greetings:
Thank heavens for small favors, kudos to Adobe for Designer and its basic email functionality.
One annoying thing, I am finding it impossible to put a simple link on the Designer Form. Likewise, if I open the form in Acrobat, the link icon on the toolbar is greyed and unavailable, so I cannot select text and turn it into a link.
I have found that I can make a bookmark with the form open in Acrobat and make that a link to a URL, but I cannot specify the initial view to show the bookmarks open, so there is a very good chance this bookmark/link will never be seen.
The HTTP button help states:
"The HTTP submit button operates like a standard button object with these settings:
Control Type set to Submit
Submit Format set to URL-Encoded Data
Submit To URL set to use the http: protocol."
which doesn't sound like it's meant to function like a simple link, and trying it anyway I get an error message that the url is incorrect.
Any ideas on this?

By the way, I figured out where to apply javascript to a button. Being new to Designer, I did not see that slender script interface at the top.
James' xfa.host.gotoURL("http://www.yoursite.com",0); does indeed work like a charm. I just selected the button, selected Javascript instead of FormCalc, Selected "click" from the event dropdown, and pasted in xfa.host.gotoURL("http://www.yoursite.com",0); (changing the URL of course).

Exporting links from Photoshop into a PDF (Rich Content PDF?)

Hi there,
I built my resume in Photoshop and typically I've been exporting to a PDF and then handling link creation within Adobe Acrobat itself. I'm wondering if there's a way to streamline this process such that links can be created within Photoshop and exported directly into the PDF file. This would save me the hassle of recreating links in Acrobat every time I modified the resume in Photoshop.
I've read about a Rich Content PDF extension/extra that is typically located in the Extras folder. I was able to successfully locate it and have Photoshop use it, but I don't know how to get links to actually be recognized by this plugin. My original hypothesis was to use slices (designating a region as a slice and then assigning it a link), but the Rich Content PDF export option did not recognize links through slices. Is there another way to do this or another way to create links in Photoshop such that it can be exported to a PDF (either through this plugin or otherwise)?

In addition, the resume is already created in the program I'm comfortable with - I'm certainly not opposed to picking up a new tool and learning how to use it, but my question specifically was simply asking if there was a way to export links from Photoshop into a PDF as that would be the most time-efficient.

Upgrading to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium Install Failure

I am trying to upgrade to CS6 Design and Web Premium from CS4 Design Premium on Win 7 (32bit). I am nistalling from the DVD which was purchased from the Adobe Store. The box says it is for Upgrading from 4 or 3x. I am entering the CS6 serial number and it is able to validate it. When it goes into the Preparing to Install mode the status bar never changes and after what seems like a very long time the Installation failed message is displayed. I ran the Adobe Support advisor and followed the link to the page that tells you how to resolve the issues and chose to go into the registry and look for "In Progess". There was no "In Progress". I have the serial numbers for CS4 and CS6 so they should be valid given that both were purchased through the Adobe Store. I am very frustrated!!!!!!!!!

I downloaded and installed the Application manager and re-started the installation. This time it got to installiing the applications and after 3 hours it was only 55% completed and showing that it was installing Acrobat and had 2 hours to go. It seemed to be stuck so I cancelled the install.
