Auto mount UPNP enabled NAS drive

Friends,
I have a UPNP enabled NAS hard drive and my mac detected it automatically once it was powered on. I was using it till last week and due to issues with windows XP on boot camp and reduced battery life, I re-imaged the computer completely and re-installed OSX. After the installation, the apple update has update my comp to 10.5.7.
However now I see that my NAS hard drive is not auto mounting. I have to manually go to finder->go->connect to server and need to give smb://xxxxx/ to connect it.
Any idea what could be wrong and how to make my mac auto detect the drive?

may I'm wrong but I understood that you "loose" your auto-mount settings???
But it is ease to re-set them again (if that is the problem)!
Just mount your external resource manually (finder->go->con....etc), after that go in the Setting menu', chose the Account and in the login tab put your "just mounted" external disk.
That's all! Next time you will log in your Mac you'll get your external disk will be auto-mounted.

Can't auto mount shutdown of LaCie drives

I just bought a new Lacie 2big triple, when I connect it by FW400/800, I found it can't auto shut down by MP power, I also saw that problem is aroung iMac too, now I thinking can I use another Firewire card to do this? But I still afraid it will had the same ending.

This is normal. Power remains on the Firewire ports even after sleep or shutdown. If your drives have their own built-in power you can turn that off. If the drives are bus-powered then they will remain on. This is a limitation of the Firewire specification and not a defect in the computer hardware.

Can I auto mount the Time Capsule drive?

I am starting to use the TC drive for more than just backups (2T is way more than we need). Is there a way to have the Mac's automatically mount the drive onto the desktop at bootup?

Try the following:
Open System Preferences
Open Accounts
Click the Login Items tab next to the Password tab
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the Login Items box
Using the Finder like interface, click on your Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading
Click the folder that appears to the right
Click Add at the lower right of the window

Connect to NAS using SMB
When using Snow Leopard I always had issues with auto-reconnecting to my NAS drive at home. I would have to click on the NAS drive the Mac to reconnect to the NAS drive and only then would apps like Picasso or Crashplan see the NAS drive and scan it. I found this unusual as when I was at work I would get a pop up that asked where the NAS drives are and I would have to choose ignore. At home I did not get this pop up, but still need to manually connect.
I was hoping that this would improve with Lion, but no such luck. I still need to go in and connect every time.

Thanks, BDAqua, for the suggestion. Unfortunately it did not work for me.
I went to the link and tried to implement the solution outlined there. Unfortunately, once the folders are mounted on my local machine, when I try to go to the next step it is not possible to create an alias as per the directions at the link. The "Create Alias" option is greyed-out so that although I can see it I cannot invoke it.
I fear I am overlooking some basic point, but I also wonder if this is somehow related either to the fact I am mounting virtual drives (i.e., folders rather than a physical disk), or else perhaps to some aspect of the NAS that I am using?
Any further suggestions or imput would certainly be appreciated.

Auto mount of USB sticks and hard drives?

I'd like ArchLinux to auto-mount USB sticks, hard drives, etc... when plugging them in. How do I manage to do this?

Auto mount with emelFM2

I am using emelFM2 file manager. I am wondering how to enable auto mount/unmount of USB drives with it? I see an icon around the bottom right to "mount and unmount a device". But it seems not working properly. Or do I have to set up some permission for emelFM2 to mount and unmount?

Extremely slow data access on auto detected NAS drive

I have a 27 inch iMac connected to a home network, on which I recently installed a Seagate Central NAS drive. When Finder automatically finds the drive under Shared, it wants to automatically log me into the drive as "Guest" instead of the administrator user I created on the Seagate drive. As Guest, the access time is extremely slow (takes minutes to display a list of folders). However, when I use Finder's Go>Connect to Server, it allows me to enter and remember my userid and password, and the response time in accessing folders and files is extremely fast. How can I get the auto detection to allow me to login with my userid and password in the same manner that I login using Go>Connect to Server, so I get fast data access on the drive?

Do the Connect to Server route, then...
If they in fact do show up on the Desktop, then create a new Folder maybe named Shares on/in the Desktop, drag all those Shares shown on the Desktop to that Folder, drag that Folder to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash, this should give you a popup menu to select from.:-)
Mount that Share once, then once the Globe Icon shows up on the Desktop, drag that Globe Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash. You now have a Dynamic Mount, a quick click on the Icon in the Dock will connect you.
On the multiple Shortcuts...
Mount them all, when show up on the Desktop, then create a new Folder maybe named Shares on/in the Desktop, drag all those Shares shown on the Desktop to that Folder, (you can even rename them once there, if you wish), drag that Folder to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash, this should give you a popup menu to select from.:-)
To automount them, drag those Aliases to the Accounts Pref Pane's Login Items Window.

Keep NAS Drive mounted after logout?

Not sure if this is possible but I would like to logout of the server but still have the NAS mounted so retrospect can run the backups.
I know you can use cocktail to enable external drives to stay mounted but this seems to only apply to attached drives like firewire, not NAS, is this right?

Cheers for the reply, I am connecting using AFP, it is a Lacie Big Disk and I think it does support NFS so I'll give that a go.
The reason I don't have it directly attached is for extra security, I keep the Backup drives away from the server, though we are in the process of organising an offsite system so this may not be such an issue then.

External Hard Drive connected to AEBS does not auto mount

Just upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.5. I have a AEBS running 5.3.2 airport utility with a LaCie HD connected to it.
In Tiger, my external hard drive would auto mount onto the desktop every time the computer turned on or woke up from sleeping etc.
In Leopard, my external drive will not auto mount. It does not show up in the sidebar under devices. It does not show up in the disk utility. To access it, I have to go the the finder sidebar, select my AEBS under shared, then select my HD. Also, I did check show connected servers and external disk on the desktop in the finder preferences. Also, not sure if this matters but the icon on my external drive on my desktop is the blue drive with three people holding hands and not the brighter blue one with the wireless signal logo.
In tiger my external HD basically acted like any other folder that was always there and not like a networked drive that I had to go and connect to. I want to go back to that. I heard this has to do with leopord no longer having the airdisk utility??

Try making an alias of one of the top-level folders in your external (AEBS-connected) drive, drag it to the desktop, and then put it in your Login Items.
--> System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items
You can simply drag the folder alias into the Login Items window.
When you next log in, the folder will be automatically opened. Alas, it doesn't give you instant access to the entire external drive, but you can back out a level to see the entire drive. It isn't quite what you had with Tiger, but perhaps it will suffice.
If you leave the aliased folder on your desktop, you have a skinny approximation to the mounted volume that you had with Tiger.

External hard drive and SD card won't auto mount

I am using MBP with retina on Yosemite. MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013).
On Maverick, all my external drives used to auto mount. The same was true just after Yosemite was installed. Lately, only my Time Machine hard drive auto mounts and others don't, e.g. my backup drive that I use with Super Duper! and my camera SD card. I have to go to disk utility and mount them manually. I did not see any option for auto mount in disk utility.
Could you please guide me on how to get auto mount back?

I have been dealing with this same issue for the past several months. Running a Macbook Pro (Mid 2010) with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. This problem occurs when I plug in Firewire, USB, or SD card. The external hardware appear to be working fine, it has to be either a setting, or a quirk that needs corrected with Yosemite. I have run all OS systems since Snow Leopard. Never had this problem. Anyone have any ideas?

There are fixes in other forums, but they are all radically differnet, and the one's I tried aren't working.
I have an eee pc with xfce and slim.
I know this is a perimssion problems since auto mount works fine for root. Could anyone tell me the (probably simple) fix for this? Thanks.

Sparse bundle mounting from NAS drives very slow

I have an unusual problem, where one of my user accounts has recurrent trouble mounting large sparse bundles located on NAS drives. The sparsebundles are hard drive clones, 200-250GB sized. NAS connected by gigabit ethernet.
On trying to mount an image with Finder, there is a pause, lasts 2-3 minutes, then the image mounts, and quite often Finder then goes unresponsive. Relaunching Finder then seems to fix the problem, at least temporarily....
Unmounting the sparsebundles takes 2-3 minutes also....
Two other user accounts I have, one on same hard drive as the affected one, work well, the same sparsebundles mount/unmount instantly....
Yesterday deleting Finder prefs fixed the problem, but then today the problem was back.
This is obviously a Finder issue, connectivity to the NAS in question is fine for other files, even for a 300GB .dmg image, just sparse bundles seem affected....
Any ideas?? It's driving me nuts now!

I too am having this issue. Intel / 10.5.8 attached to an SMB share from Ubuntu Linux.
I ran a test of various image types, and while Sparse Image works, Sparse Bundle fails. Here are my logs. Happy to do some testing and log posting if anyone has a test theory to try.

Auto Mount Network Drives Broken

Hello,
I have an automator script setup which auto mounts my server 2008 network shares on my desktop, now having upgraded to lion it will not let me do this, it also wont alow me to connect manually via the "connect drive" option!
Can anyone point me in the correct area?
Also i use a mighty mouse to scroll from one web page tot he next, not with lion this does not seem to be a available any help again?

[SOLVED] Thunar (XFCE4) Does not Auto-mount USB Drive

After reading some posts related to USB auto-mounting in Thunar and yet still having the problem, I decided to post this. Thunar used to detect the USB drives and auto-mount them. These days (I GUESS after moving to systemd), It cannot do so. Still, there is the icon of USB drive on the left side panel, but when I click on it to browse it, I get this error:

I am still able to use "sudo mount..." and get the job done, but I would prefer the convenient way it used to work. Here are some information about my system:

I'd rather not edit the /etc/fstab; the way Thunar used to behave, was working with every new USB. I wonder if anybody can shed some lights.

The error looks suspiciously like one I had not so long ago and it turned out I still had an 11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rule in /etc/udev/rules.d. Once I removed that and rebooted everything was fine again.

Auto mount/eject external drive for time machine backup/restore

I have an Iomega ultramax drive connected via firewire 800 for my Time machine backups.
This drive will automatically spin down after a period of non-use. I like this as it means lower power usage and lower risk of data loss (head crashes etc..).
My problem is, when the drive spins down like this, some file open operations pause until the drive spins up again. I cannot remember exactly which applications I have had the problem with, but I assumed that this was part of the OS. This delay can be up to 5 seconds or so and is really annoying.
Assuming this is not just a specific third party application thing. My suggestion to Apple is to do one or both of the following:
1) Multi thread the file open dialog (process?) so that is comes up instantly, and then adds the drive when it has spun up.
2) Modify time machine so that it can automatically mount/eject the external drive just when doing backups and restores.
Currently I have a bit of a messy work around to this problem where I have a loadd scheduled shell script that runs every hour that mounts the drive, runs time machine to backup and the ejects the drive. It works, but is not perhaps as nice a solution as it could be.
Does anybody else suffer from this problem?

Yes that is correct, the drive spins down and remains mounted.
To be perhaps clearer. The problem is not essentially a time machine problem, it is to do with whatever implements the file open capability that other apps use. In the above sitation, there is always a delay for the drive to spin up when I go to open a file (perhaps five seconds) in other applications. I assume this delay is caused by the file open process waiting until some data is retrieved from the external drive before giving me the option of choosing a file. This delay is annoying, as I do not ever want to open a file from my external drive (this is dedicated to time machine backups) when I am using pages, or any other application other than a time machine restore.
This particular issue is similar (but I suspect nowhere near as bad) as one of my pet hates about windows XP. In windows it appears that the explorer will wait for a response on all its connected drives (hard disks, mounted cds, network drives), so any sort of network connectivity or hardware delay will cause explorer to freeze. As explorer seems to be embedded in most things you do with the OS, this can cause anything or everything to freeze (web browsing, you name it).
In my setup, as I have the external drive totally dedicated to time machine backups, another thing that would fix the problem for me is the suggestion number 2 I suggested where time machine auto mounts for the backup and then ejects after the backup. With the feature, then the external drrive will only ever be mounted for short periods of time (the above problem does not ocurr if the external drive is not mounted), and when it is mounted it will be spinning, so I will never have my file open delay. I would however have a short delay when doing a time machine restore for the mount of the drive, but this is a much rarer event the using file open in all my other apps.
