Auto opening

Probably a simple solution but where in preferences (my guess) do I go to stop the auto start up of iPhoto when I sync my iPad or iPhone?
Most of the time, I do not want or need iPhoto to open and would like to shut this feature off.
There is nothing in preferences that I can find to help.
I was given the option when I first installed the application but that's long gone.
Thanks,
Joe

If Image Capture doesn’t open when you connect a camera
If Image Capture doesn’t open automatically when you connect a camera to your computer, you need to change your preference settings.
To open Image Capture automatically when you connect a camera:
Connect your camera to your computer, and turn the camera on.
Select the camera in the Devices list at the left of the Image Capture window.
From the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu, choose Image Capture.
If you don’t see that pop-up menu, click the “Show device settings” button in the lower-left corner.
I believe that this will allow you to set do nothing too

  • How to delete items from the list of "auto-open" tabs that load whenever FF4 opens?

When I recently downloaded FF4, I was asked if I'd like to have FF automatically open the same tabs as were set in my IE. Great! Worked perfectly until I set those tabs as App Tabs. Now both the App Tabs and the original IE set of tabs open whenever I open FF -- essentially each tab loads twice -- as app tab and large tab. How can I delete tabs from the list of "auto-open" tabs? In addition, for some reason, every time I try to set my home page, it's not working -- I keep getting the same home page regardless of how many times I have tried to set a new one.

You can close a tab with a middle-click or with a left click on the close X on the tab or via the right-click context menu of that tab.<br />
Do those tabs come back if you close then and lose Firefox?

I have an iPad 2, and I am sending PDF files to my iPad, via a Hotmail account. But, the PDF arrives to the iPad Mail account already opened at the bottom of the email. Is there a way to prevent this auto-opening of the PDF. I've seen screen shots with the box, and PDF listed inside the box, but mine open automatically. I want to get them into iBooks...?

I am having the same problem and it is even bigger.
When opening a 1-page PDF in iBooks and sending it via mail it is sent inline as preview, but the recipient cannot open the file anymore. Also on iPad and iPhone there is no "open in" possible.
Somehow the mail app does destroy the file. What is going wrong?

  • When iPad connected to Mac Pro, images from iPad camera auto open Aperture

Hi, When open Mac Pro with i Pad connected, Aperture opens atomatically with images from i Pad camera. Checked systen prefs for Mac & Aperture + U tunes for iPad prefs, but cannot find way to stop auto open of Aperture. Help!!!

Look in the application Image Capture on your Mac. In the preferences for Image Capture there will be a setting to choose which, if any, application to open when connecting a camera to your Mac. Change that setting to open nothing.
If you want Aperture to open when you connect your camera to the Mac and it continues to open when you connect your image then just quit Aperture after it opens and then start iTunes.
Any time there are photos in your iPad's Camera Roll. Your Mac will assume you'll want to upload those photos to your Mac.

I'm on a Macbook Pro, OS X.  Whenever I open a TextEdit css file lately, it auto opens in Dreamweaver.  I've never used or saved anything to Dreamweaver so I don't know why this is happening.  It hadn't in the past.  I need to use TextEdit specifically at the moment, to code files for school assignments.

  • In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

In the previous version of FF I could type a term in the address bar and it would auto open that website, now it just performs a google search. Is that a setting I can adjust or is it not available anymore?

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below

If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name

  • [SOLVED] Auto-opening in Surf Only Works for Surf Spawned from Term

I didn't have this problem when I last used surf a few months ago, but I've now reinstalled it (0.4.1-1), and applied the patch, and now files (pdfs, etc) do not auto-open unless the instance of surf was spawned from a terminal (in which case, all goes well). The downloading part of the file itself still works. Any idea why?
Here is the relevant line from my config.h:
    "ofile=\"$(xdg-user-dir DOWNLOAD)/$(basename \"$0\")\"; wget --load-cookies ~/.surf/cookies.txt -O \"$ofile\" \"$0\"; xdg-open \"$ofile\"", \
This replaces the normal download function using an xterm in surf.
I have xdg-user-dirs, xdg-open, and wget (of course) installed.
Edit: Strangely, this issue has resolved on its own, after a reinstall of my system. I'm glad things are back to normal but I'm sorry that I don't know what in particular fixed this. Perhaps I didn't have a necessary dependency installed, that I correctly installed upon my reinstall? In any case, marking this thread as SOLVED.

Yes, but there at least you are talking to people who all use the app, while in this forum (which is for hardware and not software in any case, so already off the mark, since the problem has nothing to do with hardware), it is probably a minority.

If it is and still not working correctly try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset iPhoto's preferences and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • XL Auto Open not needed

    Hi All,
When trying to save a report in excel, and we choose the path where the file is to be saved, Excel run the Auto Open Macro. ¿How we avoid that?. It is not needed at all. We just need to save the file in the path chosen, and the work with that file later on.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I already did that, I remove AutoOpen.xls from the path we use for Excel Folder, and it still popping up. It's been happening recently, since last week. It's giving messages like AutoOpen is locked for another user, even when the file is already saved.
Any Ideas? We need to save files without Auto Open, like before.
    Regards.

  • Startup Capability:  default, auto-open of application

Is there a preference setting that would cause auto-opening of a particular application every time I start-up my iMac? For example, I would like to force myself to see my To-Do list in Stickies without request.

you can add an application to your login items in system preferences->accounts->login items. it will start automatically on every login.

  • Auto-open different forms selectively

I want to be able to open Form1 when I open my Access application manually (double-clicking it) but Form2 instead when opening it from a scheduled task (to auto-run/schedule a process on Form2 that I also want to be able to run manually after navigating
    there from Form1).
When I run Form2 via a button click on Form1, I pass OpenArgs "Manual". The code in Form2 runs automatically if Nz(OpenArgs,"Manual") = "Automatic"; that is , it runs automatically only if OpenArgs tells it to. So far, so good.
Auto-starting Form2 was also easy. I could not just open Form2 directly from a macro because (at least as far as I can tell) there is no OpenArgs option for OpenForm in a macro; however, I just created a macro that uses RunCode to run a function that opens
Form2, passing OpenArgs "Automatic". Then I just pass the macro's name with the /x MacroName command-line argument when opening the application. Again, so far so good.
Except for one thing: the only way I know (besides VBA or a macro) to auto-open a form is to set that as the default form in the current DB options. But then Form1 opens regardless of whether I open the application by double-clicking it or by using the shortcut
that includes the /x MacroName argument. This means that when auto-running the application, Form1 opens as well as Form2. No, it does not hurt anything, but I am trying to keep this as clean as possible.
I tried cancelling Form1's Form_Open event based on the value of a variable set in my auto-run function, but that did nothing to close Form1, so I infer that the default object/event priority in Access causes the form to open, and therefore its Form_Open
event to fire, before the macro calls the function that opens Form2. So now my aforementioned function sets the value of public Boolean variable AutoRun to True before opening Form2, and I check that value on Form1's timer, then close it if AutoRun = True.
And yes, I know I could create another shortcut that opens a different macro, or I could set Form1 to be invisible unless AutoRun = False. But the timer event and those all seem like workarounds. I would like to be just a bit more definite about this and
have Form1 check one time upon opening, or even some way to prevent it opening if the application is opened via my scheduler. That is, it would be great if I could embed a command in my function to tell Form1 not to open even though it is the normal default
    form.
"Can't be done" or "you're stuck with what you already tried" are OK answers (if true). This is not critical; it just piqued my curiosity on how I might accomplish this.

    Brian,
Command(), a built-in function, is available in VBA modules but cannot be called directly in the Access user interface (for example, a macro or text box control source). As a workaround, you can wrap Command() with a user-defined function created in a standard
    module:
    Public Function CmdLineArg() As String
        CmdLineArg = Command
    End Function
and then call it in the user interface like this:
=CmdLineArg()  [the equals sign is required in some contexts]
The value of Command() remains in memory until the application is closed.  You can view or modify its value in the Access 2013 user interface by navigating to:
    File tab > Options > Client Settings > Advanced > Command-line arguments:
    or with these VBA methods:
    Application.SetOption "Command-Line Arguments", "SomeText"
    Application.GetOption("Command-Line Arguments")
Calling Command() directly where necessary would simplify code development and maintenance.

how to make pdf file auto open with adobe reader after downloaded

I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.
