Auto-populating folders and .lvclass files

This post really contains two different questions/issues. The first question is about using auto-populating folders with .lvclass files. The second is a more specific question about why I think I need to use auto-populating folders for some .lvclass files in a project.
I understand that .lvclass files should not be put into auto-populating. Even though I know that is a rule, I don't really understand why. I think the reasoning is that the auto-populating folder ends up making a copy of the .lvclass file, and this could cause dependency issues since I now have two copies of the .lvclass file in memory, is that correct?
I have run into a situation where it seems that need to put some classes into an auto-populating folder so they can be distributed with my EXE by an installer. My EXE will load those classes into the program via a factory at runtime. Besides putting those .lvclass files into an auto-populating folder, I can’t find any other way to distribute the .lvclass files with my exe. Am I stuck with putting these classes into an auto-populating folder or is there another way to have my installer include them for distribution?

After some research the apps engineer over at NI that was helping me concluded that including .lvclass files in an autopopulating folder is not best practice because (according to him) doing so somehow creates two copies of the files in memory. I'm still not totaly sure if that true or not, but unless something changed, there are good reasons why one shouldn't mix autopop folders and .lvclass files. I'd just like to understand what those reasons are.

How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
With regard to font size,
1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
5. “Help” offers none that I can find.

How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop? It seems to happen a lot after I've hooked my laptop to my Thunderbolt in my office and then I unhook my laptop to go present at a clients of taking my laptop home to work. Every once in a while if even places all of my folders and PDF files in the far upper left corner of my screen. Needless to say, having to constanly rearrange my desktop is extremly annoying and would love to know what the fix is for this problem. Thank you in advance for any help offered!

Thanks for the tip "baltwo", unfortunately my desktop settings were already set to NONE. I've had one of my IT guys here this moring helping me look through all of this and we're at a wall trying to figure out why it's doing this. This morning when I docked to the Thunderbolt all my folders and PDF files are in the upper lefthand corner stacked on top of each other almost out of view. If I go to settings, displays, and swith to mirroring, all the folders and files go right back to where they're set up on my MacBook desktop, but I lose the ability to utilize the entire screen of the Thunderbolt. Very frustrating to say the least and after searching through and reviewing several forums, Apple is very much aware of this issue and seems to be keeping silent on the issue. Hoepfully they'll launch a fix soon!

Auto-populating folders stop becoming auto-populated for no apparent reason

Just what it says. I make an autopopulating folder, use it a few times, come back later and it's no longer auto-populating and I have t to re-link it. I keep my projects on a network drive if that means anything.

I used to use autopopulating folders when I first started using projects. Then I discovered that it is so much easier to manipulate things inside Project Explorer when using virtual folders. If I want to move a file, it's just drag n drop. If I want to rename a virtual folder, no problemo. If I want to shuffle virtual folder hierarchies around, not an issue. I can do these things with autopop folders also, but it is so cumbersome that I end up spending too much time focusing on how to move things around and it distracts me from doing the actual coding. The interface should not get in the way of your coding, and with autopop, it surely does (for me).
The tradeoff is that it is difficult to look at in Widnows Explorer. But really it's like viewing the file structure of your hard drive directly, since folders don't really exist on your hard drive anyways.

Sounds like you are using Gmail.
Pages 5 uses a zipped package of files as its format. 3rd party servers don't understand the format and show it as the component parts.
Use Mail toenail the file or zip the .pages document before sending.

I think you might want to use -Include instead of -Filter. Your -Include parameter accepts wildcards, i.e. *.docx or *somstr.txt
Your command to actually append the content should be:

You had $Files.FullName which might behave unexpectedly, if at all.
Your actual command has several issues.

You had commas following the lists of locations and searchfor terms, did that even work? Without seeing your source files or your target file I can only advise you so much, but ideally you would import-csv and export-csv. Depending on the contents,
you may be able to get away with get-content and out-file though.

Can automator create folders and organize files?

I produce a large number of files that must all be moved into appropriate folders manually, but in a consistent manner every time. The files are titled with a keyword for the folder that needs to be created for them. There are just five consistent folders.
Can automator be made to automatically create these folders and move the appropriate images into them? Perhaps from the right click menu?
I've tinkered a little bit, but only been able to produce erratic behavior. In all my experiments it always stalls on the 'create new folder' step, although it does create a folder, though usually not where I needed it to go.
Any advice would be really helpful! Thanks!

Exactly. That's kinda the definition of a backup. When (not if) something awful happens, like your Mac being lost or stolen, or the HD failing or getting corrupted, or you accidentally change or delete some stuff, you have a backup you can recover.

Don't let it. Delete things you don't need. If you can't delete enough, as Neil says, get an external HD for the "overflow" that won't fit, then let Time Machine back up both your Mac and the external. See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for more info.

Auto open docx and xlsx files in MS Office 2011 after it download in Safari (com.apple.DownloadAssessment.plist not work)

Check "Open safe files" in Safari and define docx and xlsx extensions in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DownloadAssessment.plist not work. Old doc and xls files was auto opened successfully...

Yes, but there at least you are talking to people who all use the app, while in this forum (which is for hardware and not software in any case, so already off the mark, since the problem has nothing to do with hardware), it is probably a minority.

Were all (or most) of the items in, say, your Documents folder, or your Music folder? If so, you can restore the whole folder via TM. That will put all sub-folders and files back exactly the way they were at the time of the backup. You just have to be careful to pick the right backup (date & time).

Restoring Bookmarked folders and individual files in Firefox 19.0.2

Does FF 19.0.2 bookmark the folders that contain individual bookmarks and individual bookmarks files too? If so, how can I do that? In the past an html or json file I have restored/imported has not contained all the original Bookmark folders and files. Thank you.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If importing the HTML doesn't work properly then there may be a problem with one or more of the bookmarks in it and you try try to use an editor to split out the content in some parts to see if you can identify the problem.

Working with auto Import folders and Bridge

I'm trying to refine my workflow. My artwork usually comes from PS. These files are 2gig each. I set up an auto import folder, with the meta data I need to go to smart collections. Because these files are so big, I don't want to have dupes everywhere. Is there a way for Lightroom (within the Auto Import Folder settings) so, "ADD" rather than COPY or move the file. If I "Move" the file, it no longer sits with its variations. and COPY makes a duplicate.

I'm trying it now so I may answer my own question, but will Lightroom accept a "shortcut" file (win7) rather than the original 2gb file?

I dont think the Auto Import is the way to go for you here. Rather I would use the synchronize folder function in Lightroom. As you are saving from PS to a specific location all you need to do is make LR aware of that folder (or better yet, a parent folder) and synchronize when you are ready.
The variants will also be catalogged too.
As for the metadata addition, that can be accomplished very quickly in Lightroom or directly from within PS using an action.

Compare folders and output files with same name?

I'm trying to compare two folders and print only the excel files in folder B that have the same names as the pages files in folder A. I've tried using the completedigitalphotography "compare folders" action, but it will only output files that are of the same type, not just the same name.
Any ideas?

I tested this out on my own seat and I think it should work for you. I wrote it as a function, all you have to do is pass the root folders you want to search and the file your looking for. The function will then search that directory and all sub directories
for that file name. you will also have to provide it a file to append to, if the file dosen't exists the function will create it. If you run into an issues let me know and the links Mike

Time Machine - can it backup selected folders and/or files?

I have searched for an answer to this question, but found no answer.
Can I select certain files or folders in TimeMachine to backup, instead of having to backup a whole disk (only).
I am sure I am not the only person with this question, but I could not find a post on this topic.

Time Machine is designed as a simple backup system to handle an entire system, and provides only limited flexibility. You can exclude things from Time Machine backups, but there's no way to start with nothing being selected and add just specific folders. If backing up only certain folders and files what you really wish to do, I'd suggest you look into a different backup solution, of which there are many.

You can use Disk Utility to create an encrypted disk image and store your files inside of that. It is similar to an encrypted folder.

Iclould says 7GB of emails, but I have only few folders and few files?
