Auto Render .... is it creating QT's that are eating my drive space?

Hello - I've been editing a feature and have several projects open at the same time, as well as lots of sequences open too.  I noticed
today that 40 gigs just evaporated from my hard drive and I'm assuming (now, after research) that it's because of Auto Render.
It appears that every minute a new QuickTime was created on my drive, and was labeled, for example:  ROUGHCUT_1-ITM-00002d01.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Isn't this overkill on Apple/FCP's part?  I have deselected Auto Render and so far it seems as though it has stopped creating these files.
My question is:  Can I delete all these files without disastrous results?  I am working with an external drive which has all of the media and the project.  The Auto Render has been saving to my MacBook Pro drive - why - I don't know since I have set everything else up to save to my external.  How do you FCP users work with or without Auto Render - do you keep it on and delete the files later, or do you have it off?
Thanks for any tips!!

Actually, relooking at your post, I am assumming you are on Final Cut Pro X since that is the forum you are posting to.  If you are not, then none of this will make sense to you.  If you are then  ...
You have to be out of your project timeline and into the project browser on the lower left part of your screen.  You can get there by clicking on the icon with the reel of tape in it at the lowest left corner.  If it is pointing to the left, click it to get out to where all your projects are in view.  That is the project browser. See the two pictures below ...
Then simply click to select a project but do not double click to go into it for editing.  Then go to the File menu and select the Delete Project Render Files near the bottom of that menu.  Check the option to delete only unused render files.  Hope this helps.

  • Creating custom lists that are links to SharePoint sites.

I am new to SharePoint 2013 Online and was wondering if there is a non-coding way to build a sub-site from a template that is not initially connected to a site collection. Attach this sub-site to a site an already existing site collection afterwards and
use data from the sub-site that is created, to generate a custom list items that can also be used as links to the sub-site itself.
How I thought this might work would be to create templates for site collections (if that is even possible), and then use a links list or some other type of linked list but not exactly sure how this is done in SharePoint.
Any input on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated as well as any insight as to whether this is even possible to do with out coding. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to create custom lists that are links to SharePoint sub-sites.
I recommend to create a custom list and add a multiple line column to display the sub-sites url.
Then create a workflow associate a custom list and use “Call HTTP Web Service" action and “Build Dictionary" action to get the count of the sub-sites.
Then use the Loop Stage to create a new item in the custom list and set the multiple line column to the url you get in the dictionary.
Here is a great blog for you to take a look at:
    http://sergeluca.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/calling-the-sharepoint-2013-rest-api-from-a-sharepoint-designer-workflow/
In addition, you can use the build-in webservice via SharePoint Designer.

  • What type of blank DVD should I use to record photo images that are on my drive E

I own a HP Pavilion dv5000 with an RW DVD + R DL multi recorder.  My question, which type of blank DVD should I use to record images that are on my drive E?  I can record without problems on a CR-R but when I try a blank DVD-R it won't work.  Please advise.

    Hi,
Back to the good old days, HP supported only DVD +R discs, some vendors supported DVD -R discs. Now all vendors support both. You may want to try blank DVD +R. Hope this works. Please post back the result.

  • Can Acrobat Pro 9 create pdf forms that are readable by older versions of Reader?

I have just downloaded the Trial of Acrobat Pro 9, and my client now tells me they only have Acrobat 5, and can't open the pdf form I've made in 9.  My form uses text fields and checkboxes, tooltips but no validation or calculation.  Does anyone know if it is possible to save this form in a way that is backwards compatible with Acrobat 5?
Failing this, does anyone know what version of Pro I need in order to add fields and still allow v5 to open the files?
    thanks!
    - Thea

I did not read your original post carefully. As far as saving a form that is readable in AA5, AA5 should be able to read an AA9 form as long as you did not use any of the new fancy things in it. In the meantime, simply save the form using either Reduce File Size or PDF Optimize with the compatibility set to AA5 or AR5. That process will strip any special issues from the PDF I think. At least that is my assumption. I create PDFs that are AA5 compatible all the time by simply having the properties of the Adobe PDF printer set to AR5 compatibility. As far as the form feature, that is really just a matter of being sure you use features that are AA5 compatible as I have suggested and saving, possibly using one of the two options I have mentioned. In most cases, AR5 will be able to read it even if you do not save in that process, but do not get fancy in the structure.

  • My old windows is on an external drive, how do retrieve firefox bookmarks that are on the drive?

I had windows 7 on drive C, now I got new computer with a new windows 7 and I'm using the old drive (C) as an external hard drive, it still has all program files and windows files on it. How do I retrieve my old book marks that are on that hard drive, I did not back them up before.

You can find the Firefox Profile Folder in this location (replace the x with the proper drive letter):
    * x:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Can't get rid of items that are making hard drive sleepless

I have an Intel iMac with a dead internal drive. I'm now booting and running it off its backup clone drive, an external La Cie Firewire drive. But the drive is constantly cycling, spinning down and spinning up, even when all apps are closed and the iMac seems (and should be) asleep (if the internal drive was doing this and i couldn't hear it, no wonder it died).
I looked in Activity Monitor to see what it's up to when it's supposed to be asleep, and see some repeated entries from outdated stuff- Lexmark Network Services (from a printer i no longer have) and Palm Desktop Background, from a Palm program i haven't used since 2006 and thought was de-installed.
The thing is, i can't seem to get rid of them. It's difficult to pinpoint their exact source thru Spotlight (or Inspect in Activity Monitor), and when i throw what i can trace of them in the trash, i can't empty it, i get a message that says "USB Transport rsrc is in use".
How can i get rid of these items, which are obsolete and might be what is keeping the drive cycling?
I removed a bunch of unneeded items from Login Items, but Lexmark one isn't there. And what is "Transport Monitor" (shows in both Startup Items and Activity Monitor)? Can i delete it from Login items?
Energy Saver settings seem fine- it's set to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity. It's just not going inactive.
    Suggestions?
I'm having to shut the iMac down whenever i walk away from it to keep from hearing all that cycling from the drive (and wondering what it's doing to the drive).

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode, like if it still changes in 5-10 minutes...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it maybe some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. It also may be Video Card or Airport going bad.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Transport Monitor & Palm Desktop are related...

  • Can't find movie files that are eating up my memory

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 inch, Late 2012) and last week I kept getting notifications that my memory was almost full so I checked out "Storage" under "About this Mac" and it showed that about 120 GB were being taken up by movies. I removed all the videos from my Mac and removed all my files from iPhoto, adjusted search criteria in Finder for movies, and emptied the trash and restarted my computer several times. Now it shows that I have 113 GB of movies and I can't find out where these alleged files are. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Do I need to reformat my computer?

  • HT5624 I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY PREVIOUSLY USED PASSWORDS CLEARED SO AS THAT I CAN USE THEM AGAIN. IT'S HASTLE THAT YOU HAVE TO CREATE NEW PASSWORDS THAT ARE HARDER TO REMEMBER THAN THE LAST AS YOU ALWAYS CHOSE SOMETHING EASY TO START WITH

It's a pain to have to keep thinking of new and more elaborate passwords simply because you're unable to re call one temporarily.
I'm signed into accounts most of the time and when I'm on another interface and can't recall or have access to my password then I'm forced to chose another. After a year and several situations like this I'm forced to create yet another non repeated password that only gets forgotton again from the fact it's something totally obscure to the standard passwords I use.
Can't passwords be returned to use after a period if so required by the account holder.

  • Is there a way to create new keywords that are NOT subcategories of other keywords in PSE Organizer?

I would like to create a new keyword in the Organizer that is not a subcategory of OTHER.
Specifically I would like to create the keyword PETS, which could in turn have subcategories of different pets.
Currently the only way I can do this is to create PETS as a subcategory of OTHER which I would prefer not to do.
If this can be done, please advise me (in detail) how this can be done.
I am using PSE13 with Windows 8.1 (64-bit) as my OS.
Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

  • File sharing between windows PCs creates tmp files that are locked

Hey everyone. This is bringing an old topic back from the dead. Over the weekend we upgraded to Leopard Server 10.5.4 and am now seeing this same exact problem that was discussed here and never answered: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1290360&tstart=237
Whenever a windows user opens a word document via smb it creates as follows:
On a file called 'test save.doc', having been opened in Word, amended and saved I would end up with the following files.
    ~$st save.doc
    ~WRD0000.tmp
    ~WRD0001.tmp
    test save.doc
These temp files are locked and can't be deleted from the users machines. they have to be deleted from the server hosting the files. Permissions are set thru ACLs and access to folders and files are working accordingly. But for some reason these temp files are being created on every word document that is opened and aren't being automatically removed after closing the document
    thanks for any help!

the change that I made was to /etc/smb.conf
    acl check permissions = no
I stopped the samba service, put that into /etc/smb.conf and restarted samba services.
all seems to be well on the open frontier. hope this helps someone out

  • Create rrandom slides that are not quiz slides?

    Hi,
None of the Quiz slide options provides the required quiz type I need, so I am going to create the whole course from scratch.
I want to be able to create several slides with questions just from text I put on a blank slide, that when the user clicks a button to go to the next slide they will go to a random slide from a defined group of slides.
    Is this possible?
If I create a slide Group, would it be possible to go to a random slide of that Group?
I would also like to create a random starting slide so that a user does not get the same intro slide each time?
    cheers

    Hi there
Unless someone has some fancy script to randomize things I'm going to claim it's not possible to randomize regular slides. However, I've always thought it would be a neat feature to have. I think I've subitted a feature request to ask for it in a future version. If you also believe as I do (and it sounds like you do) I'm hopeful that you and any others that feel this way will take a moment and submit a Feature Request to ask for this ability. (Link to the Feature Request is in my sig)

  • Discoverer - creating reports / letters that are not just a "grid" layout

    Hello,
I am just starting to work with Oracle Discoverer for possible replacement reporting tool for us.
The big issue that I have right now is that Discoverer puts all results in a spreadsheet type format. That is you cannot add labels, section breaks, ect. You really cannot format any of the results (other than standard sorting ect) to produce a nice report look or a letters ect.
We have a department that creates many reports with our current BI tool, and they never use a standard grid layout for reports, they always have more of a customized report look and feel with even images ect. added to it.
If reports and letters are not possible to do in Discover, what is the solution? Is Oracle Reports the solution that most users use to create custom report or letter?
Please feel free to let me know how you are currently creating custom reports and letters in Discoverer.
    Thx.

Discoverer allows you to create your queries/presentations using Discoverer Plus and use the formatting option to manage the presentation of that data to your Discoverer community.
Once the presentations are defined you share these same presentations with your report builders who would typically use Oracle Reports. Discoverer has an export facility to provide a link to Oracle Reports. This allows report builders to create layout specific formats for further distribution.
    Hope this helps

  • Mail seems to create Mail folders that are not allowed to be backed up.

The folder in my Home>Library>Mail that had my Inbox in it was titled POP/[email protected]@myserver.net, or the specific equivalent.
When I was backing up everything to an exterior hard drive, I got a message saying the name was too long, or had incorrect characters in it.
I boldly shortened the name by taking the second @myserver.net off, keeping my fingers crossed, and all seemed to go well, until the next time I opened Mail, and most of my Inbox was gone. And all of the emails I had deleted in the last month or so were back in my Inbox.
It turns out that on launching Mail, my computer had created a new POP/[email protected]@myserver.net folder, but had only transferred a small chunk of my old emails to fill it.
So I went back and looked at the POP folder whose name I'd changed, and all the old emails were there. So I copied each item in the non-allowed folder to the Mail folder in the exterior hard drive, created a new folder there with the shortened title POP/[email protected], stuck all the items in it, just for tidiness. I was able to access these mailboxes from my Mail program.
So now I had backed them up, which was a weight off my mind. But I believe I lost emails like this previously when backing up, and didn't figure out how to find and save them, and now they are probably gone forever.
What I want to know is why Mail creates folders with titles that it will not allow itself to back up.
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I think something else must have happened, for I have
never had this happen. I have just tested copying my
POP folder with the longest name, and no problem.
The name had the same number of characters, and
    format as the following:
    [email protected]@mail.xxxxxx.net
However, I note that the form you report (that of
beginning with POP/) is not the current form Mail has
used for some time, but rather would be expected to
begin as "POP-". Nevertheless, I would not have
expected that, alone, to cause the behavior you
    report.
    More info, please.
    Ernie
    Hi Ernie,
Maybe it was something to do with the permissions. Last time I tried to verify my permissions, I was unable to. I got a message saying my disc could not connect with Disc Utility, or was disfunctional in some precarious way. A somewhat scary experience that I am not in a big hurry to repeat.
Based partly on your info, I have decided instead to upgrade to Tiger immediately, and am hoping this will alleviate some or all aspects of these problems.
    Thanks for your input,
    Stephen

  • Startup disk is full, but I cannot see the files that are taking up the space?

    HI,
