Auto-save and file-recovery
Dear Adobe,
It is the year 2015. Just lost several hours of work in Illustrator. Thanks for making your professional community the beta tester of your half-baked products. I have no interest using Illustrator if you release version after version with new "features" and leave out the most important thing: file recovery and auto save. Honestly, I am in severe disbelief that this is not built in. Don't release an update if you don't do this first. This has happened far too much for me to have any patience, or just to say, "it's ok, I will re-do it".
I can't find words to express my severe disappointment in this software. I am not the first one to have said this. If no solution is in the works even, you really don't care.

With regard to file recovery, the following may apply (this may also be (too well) known to you):
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the (PDF contents, if any, of the) corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way.

Would a 347 MB file be slow? Auto save and auto type turn off?
I am doing an art inventory and add jpegs of the art. I don't resize them they range from 750k to 3MB. I guess if it is slowing the program down i should? It currently is 267 rows by about 18 columns.

LIon (OSX 10.7) embed an Autosave and a Versions feature at system level.
iWork components are using them.
The question and the given answer were dedicated to apps running under older systems.

TextEdit did that but iLife apps didn't and I'm not sure that Apple's Pro apps were doing that before Lion.

Auto Save and Versions not working
Auto Save and Versions are not working in pages or numbers. I've worked on a project for over five minutes when I "Xed" out the drop down box opened up and asked if I wanted to save. Any ideas why? Also, how do you open up versions?
There is the problem with that sentiment. I don't like the loss of "save as" either. I think the new save/duplicate paradigm has more steps and is poorly implemented to boot. Yet, people complain far more about Versions and Autosave than they do about "save as"? Why on earth would anyone complain about Autosave? There is no user interface change involved with Autosave. It is entirely in the background. If you don't like Autosave, you are free to randomly delete files from your machine and from Time Machine if you want. I don't see what the point of that would be, but it would give you the same effect of not having Autosave. There is more a user impact to Versions, but it still a really cool feature. Why would you not want to have access to old versions of your document? It isn't going to eat much disk space. The last time someone complained about disk space usage by versions I calculated that it would take 38 years for them to run out of space due to Versions. If you don't want to use Versions, don't click on the Versions tools. Problem solved.
I don't want people lumping clear losers (like no more "save as") with clear winners like Autosave and Versions. -
Where can I control Auto Save and Versions? I can't find it in System Settings.

So I wonder every five minutes or every hour? Would be nice to make sure on each Mac itself whether it auto-saves every five minutes or every hour and to actually allow its user o set the frequency.It does both. It saves your work in the current version every 5 minutes. Every hour, it creates a new version of the document.
I haven't searched for any version settings, yet. -
Address Book Auto Save and Jump
When I enter in a new address the program seems to periodically auto save and then the cursor jumps to the note section. If I'm not paying attention I will continue to type in the notes section and then will have to delete or cut and paste. This is really annoying when entering lots of addresses. Explanation? Solution? Thanks.

I'm new Lion user. I tried auto-save and version with textedit and it works.
But i'm not sure it works with pages '09.It does work if you install the update from yesterday.

I am using Windows 7 with Adobe Reader XI. I'm building a website that has help documents that I would like to Auto save and open with Adobe Reader XI. I am unsure if this is a user feature or a publisher feature. I want to have these documents auto open and run in Internet Explorer 11 specifically. I've tried to add the site as a trusted site and just about all the other steps.

I'm not seeing the Auto Save and Versions features
I have a document open in Pages '09 and I'm running Lion, but I am not seeing the auto save or versions features that you supposedly get my clicking on the document name. Can someone help? Do I have to turn this feature on in preferences?
I'm actually working on a Word document that Pages has converted and opened, but the document does have a title bar name. So..I have to do a manual save before auto save will start working?!?
You don't have to do a manual save. Pages will auto save the converted Word document. If you quit Pages after editing the converted document without saving, Pages will reopen the converted Word document, give it a temporary window title of "Untitiled" and have saved your edits.
I did think I see a preference setting for auto save that wasn't checked in my preferences.
I don't think Pages every had auto save. Word does though, and this may be what you're remembering.
Also, how does all this auto save and versions stuff work…
Have a read of Apple's support document titled OS X Lion: About Auto Save and Versions. This explains both and how the two features are related but different.
NB While Pages auto saves new, untitled documents it doesn't create a Version of these documents. -

Mountain Lion. Since ML, Auto Save and Version does not work with new user accounts I am creating. The accounts I moved from Lion MBA to Mountain Lion on my RMBP 15 have it enabled.
So: ML still has the feature, but you may not access it by Preferences. It does - only on new accounts - even not work with TextEdit. With the Accout I moved from Lion to Mountain Lion no such problems. -
While composing email, keep getting "Unable to save as a draft" every 30 seconds. I've disable auto save and it didn't help.How can I stop this message?

Thank you for taking the time to look at my app. This is my last major stumbling block that I have to resolve for this and other forms in the app.
Actually, I did use the Form Wizard for Auto DML to originally create the form. It was great. It created most of the Buttons, Items and Validations automatically (basically most of the page). I just needed to create some Processes and Computations. Two of which were the Processes to update the 'create_dt' and 'created_by' fields and 'update_dt' and 'updated_by' fields. The Create process updates the fields just fine.
However, my problem seems to be that the Hidden 'create_dt' and 'created_by' fields aren't picking up the values from a record that is being editted. Then when I attempt to save the record those fields are NULL, causing the DB NOT NULL constraint to throw an exception for those fields. In the back of my mind I seem to remember seeing some post stating something to the effect that the information in fields with a Source Type of Database Column is just displayed and does not affect Session State items.
Even with that, I am still wondering just why the 'created_by' Page Item shows the value that is in the DB record being updated, but the 'create_dt" does not (as can be seen in my first posting). It is the 'create_dt' Page Item (:P205_CREATE_DT) not having the DB records 'create_dt' info in it that appears to be the problem.

I hope the is a differnence between auto-save (as listed in you document properties) and Auto-Recovery (as set in Prefs). I would like some "protection" but I don't want flash saving over my file unless I tell it to save. I got burn last night while "experimenting" and and did a "revert" only to find that flash had saved over my file, what a pain. I went to find the "recovery" file only to not find one anywhere. My search on the net are conflicted with wheather or not these 2 features are the same. In my case both items where checked and both set to 10min (the default). soooo....
Please tell me that Auto-Recovery is different, is that it doesn't save over my file, ie it keeps a real back-up someplace, AND where i can find this "recovery" file. ?
This feature seems strange, why not do a std auto back-up to a user selected number of versions in a user selected location ?

JoelThanks. After poking around for a while I kinda figured this out. I was just glad to find out I could get some kind of "back-up" function from Auto Recovery, because "Auto Save" is a nightmare. I can't understand where anyone would want to use this feature at all. Anything that saves over what your working on before your ask for the file to be saved is looking for trouble. I found it out the hard way. I had "auto Save" on and after messing around trying a few different things, none of which worked or I liked, I thought I would simply close and re-open the original file only to find "auto save" had saved over my original file. I can't see any place where this feature would be anything but a pitb. If they want a auto save feature it should be saving versions of the original (up to a user specified number of instances) in the seperate folder. Never under any curcumstances should the original file be saved over unless the users presses SAVE. Auto recovery would be more useful if it didn't erase everytime you restarted the app. Flash needs to look at the back-up and versioning systems that AE and PPro use.
It's one of those things that bother you about the whole "suite" concept. Adobe owns all these apps and while some of them do play well together to an extent, for the most part it is still a collection of indiviuals. While there have been some changes to get the "look" of the apps to be close, the actual functioning of the UI in the differnt apps isn't where it needs to be. There needs to be a Suite "czar" that makes all the apps do std UI things the same using the same keys etc. for example AE, PPro, Flash, Photoshop, fireworks, all use different keys to zoom in/out or of your image/stage/comp/viewer/monitor window ie main workspace or to enable the mouse "wheel" for zooming. PPro still refuses to use the spacebar to toggle the hand tool like every other "suite app". anyway. a std system for back-up and versioning is need across the suite.

How can I continuously auto-save and auto-name the JPEG files with a controlled time interval

I am newly involved in some Labview projects that out of my knowledge. I am trying to save multiple JPEG images from a live imaging task to a folder in the computer hard disk every certain minutes. I'd like to name these files with the date and time (eg. Img_06012011_1635. jpg).Then, after hours long image capturing, I can have all the image files in a neat order.
My goal is to have the jpg files auto saved and auto-named with the data and time at that moment. I also need to control this waiting time between each savings.
Could you please show me some hints about this? See the vi attached, I know I need to do something on the "write path" part on the up right corner. Thanks!

Do you think this is the problem from my while loop?Could you show me if there is any other secret functions that restrains the file saving?
I am planning to save the image files every 30 secs,for example, and then I can have a bunch of jpg files with their unique names after hours long image acquisition.

Auto save and very large files
Hi All,
I produce very high dim artworks, 6m x 2.7m(+) image at 200ppi, sometimes when I load the files Photoshop cc2014 would randomly will crash. This never happened with my CS5 version. I have auto save checked, could this be the issue?
I am running a high end computer with 32gb ram, 8 ssd's with two dedicated to PS scratch disk....the images, so far, load eventually but the heart beat stop moment when you think a file is corrupt really scares me, especially when $$$$$ are involved.

I will try it. It is possible it's not the auto-save feature, cs5 was rock solid and gave me confidence as it never crashed even with files over 5gb. The crash report states the faulting model is unknown for the last crash but I have seen ntdll.dll as the faulting module in previous crashes.
