Auto Save - Lost My Homework - Power Outage

Help - I am brand new to Mac - I love my new iMac 24", but the power went out tonight as I was in the middle of my homework assignment. I was using Pages to write my report and had not saved in the last 30 min's. I lost everything I had done! Can you tell me how to set a auto-save function so if I have another power outage, I won't lose all my work again? If Mac's don't have this feature, is there 3rd. party software that will do this? If a PC can do this, I know a Mac can do it, but I just don't know how to turn that feature on.

I believe there is no such feature in Pages. And a Web search recently did not uncover 3rd-party s/w for Mac to do this, although I did see a link to someone who had written a script for it. All in all, I'd say for the moment it's easier to train ourselves to be paranoid and hit Apple-S every few minutes :o)

WVC80N and lost config by power outage

Hi,
I have two Cameras WVC80N working well until there was a power outage for about two hours, and both cameras lost their config.
Is this normal?
I config both again and tried unplugging one of these for 30 minutes, and work well.
Anyone experienced this same problem?

I understand that both the router and the camera may lose the settings, but unlike the router, the camera lacks the option to back up the configuration, the same way you can do with the router.

Lost configuration after power outage

Can someone please help. I have an older linksys wireless router (b) and all of a sudden it loses it's configuration if the power flickers in the house. I have had this router for 4 years with no problems to date.
Now it loses it's configuration every time the electric in my house flickers or goes down due to a storm etc.
Does this mean the router is dying on me? I am very familiar with routers and have saved my configuration, but for some reason this continues to happen.
I did see some other posts, but no real answers regarding this issue.
Please advise.

Lost network after power outage

I am getting the following message when I attempt to access our file server, which is attached to another iMac on our peer to peer network:
The server "Graphics iMac (2)" is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally.
I don't know where that is.
We have re-started both computers and I still get the same message.

I also encountered this error but in a different situation : after having restored my Lion installation from a Time Machine backup, everything was okay except that I couldn't connect to any disk attached to my Airport extreme.
I searched for hours and even restored my backup a second time. The problem is specific to only one client since my Macbook was still able to connect to the AE. I ended up resetting all the settings on the AE and restoring them one by one.
The problem appears when I restore the address range distributed by the AE's DHCP server to the one that was configured before.
Thus the solution seems to change this address range. Must be something related to a network route or cache or anything like this.
I hope it will help anybody who encounters this problem. Luckily it seems there are very few : the number of occurences of this problem in google is very low.

Is there a way to recover a word document that was auto saved before a power outage?

I was working on a document that was previously saved, went to the save the darn thing, and of course the power zapped out. It was in word 2010? and even when searching for "AutoRecovery" files it is not there. just the original document opens, not the modified one. Please if anyone knows how to find a recovered one, or if it is even possible can you let me know.

I was assuming you meant 2011 and not 2010 since 2010 is a Windows version and not Mac
First a disclaimer, right now I am on a PC and not my Mac so there may not be a one-to-one matchup.
Clicking on the main Word drop down, this may be under Preferences, I have a Word Options button. From there do you have Allow Background Saves checked? Also, the button File Locations; find AutoRecover Files and see where those are located. Then using Finder, go to that location and see if you can find a file with a date/time stamp for the time of the power outage. If there is a file, open and see if that is what you need.
If there are no files, or cannot find the recovery file location, there may not be much option than to try and redo all the work up to the power outage. Word is supposed to auto save, and take you to the last saved form of files before an exit that is not according to the rules...it is supposed to do that, or so it claims.

My screen saver is not working on my desktop after a power outage. It is set for 15 minutes but does not come on.

OSX 10.4.11 doesn't recognize APC Back-UPS BE550G, no UPS tab appears in Energy Saver panel, how can I get safe shut down at power outage?

Can't figure out how to solve this puzzle: the battery backup [APC Back-UPS BE550G] doesn't show up in the Energy Saver pane in a UPS tab nor beside the clock and Spotlight; will the (1 min. then shutdown) settings of the Saver be supported by the APC battery if there is a power outage or significant surge?
This new back-ups came in a box stating compatibility with OS 10.3.9 – 10.4.9. Am I out of luck with 10.4.11? Isn't the OS itself able to set prefs for an UPS?

did you install software and if so, where did you get it? I am running 10.7.4 and when the unit is plugged in via the ethernet usb cable, I can see ups in the control panel, but have no other control. I am media managing a television shoot and we need to set up our workstations pronto.

Bookmarks lost, restore doesn't work (backup files exist), library empty, power outage this morning, HELP.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Check with your internet provider for help. Your modem or router could have been damaged if they did not come on after the outage. If your modem and router look OK all you should have to do is restart your iMac.

Help - lost motherboard, auto save saved older script, newer script actually with older date.

I had a best script to date, on an older hard drive and the motherboard failed on my HP tower. The sony laptop has a more recent dated script, but not the one I want. How do I replace an "older" date script, one that I want for a newer script. I don't want the newer script, I want the older one that is on a "pulled" hard drive again, from a tower that failed.
Do I save the older file on an offline, using a new ID, new password, forever changed or what can I do?
I need a fairly quick response, timing is critical. HP tower is the problem.

You have it half right. the issue is the HP tower I had failed. The mother board failed, I pulled the hard drive which is windows 7, I have a sony laptop which is in 32 bit vista, I am not sure if the different versions will be an issue. can i take a file off the pulled hard drive and put it somewhere in a directory even with the different windows vista vs windows 7 if so which file should i copy on the pulled hard drive and where do i put it on the laptop, directory plus I will go back on online save it in the clouds and reformat the laptop and go to windows 7 then go back to adobe story and go from there. thank you for your quick attention in this matter.

I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly, but as far as I can make out you had been working on a script and then it got autosaved and now you wish to go back to the "older" script.
In order to do so you may visit your document's history through the View->History option. There you will see older versions of your document (if you had not turned off autoversioning). You may then open an older version of the document from the panel by double clicking on it. Once on an older version you will get to see the "Make Latest" option. Clicking on that will make the "older" state of your document your "current" state and then you may proceed to edit the document as usual.
I hope this is helpful to your situation. In case you face any issues in following the mentioned steps do let us know.

I had a power outage this morning, and lost Mail. I am running on an iMac 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram, running OSX10.6.8.
When I restarted Mail showed up but there was a message stating my index was damaged, and the only option button was to click Quit. Upon a second reboot, I got the welcome to Mail screen as if I had just loaded brand new OS...?
I'm not worried about the actual emails, as I have IMAP for all the accounts, it's just going to be a hassle to set them all up again and wondered if there was a way to shortcut the process by restoring a back up from Time-Machine or maybe just as simple as copying a mail index file from a backup. Can anyone help, please?

XServe Raid lost Array #2 after power outage

Hi..
I've had an unfortunate incident with my XServe RAID.. it lost power, and when restarted array 1 came up, but #2 is showing the drives' status as all "spare" and no configured array.
Our first thought was to use the "recognize array" utility in Raid Admin, but (after upgrading to the latest firmware) when choosing either controller the recognize button is greyed out, as if it doesn't want to. If i'm reading the support docs correctly, the drives might actually need to be showing as "available" rather than "spare" - but I'm understanably hesitant to just issue the make drive available command in case that hoses the data that (we hope) is still on the drives.
other details are that array 1 is connected to an Xserve and array 2 (should be) talking to a win2k3 box, via their respective FC interfaces. the power outage was uncontrolled and affected all machines (UPS failure) and startup was also unattended which is worrying me that the 2k3 box might have done something to array 2 on the way back up.
naturally i'm googling this one like crazy but haven't yet found any relevant info. hoping a suggestion or two here might set me in the right direction?
not a nice way to spend a weekend - but at least i have until monday morning to sort it..

Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately we'd already tried the complete power-down solution and no go. One thing i found out in the process was that we don't have the battery backup units installed, I think that might be a wise investment for next time.

Lost my pictures in iPhoto '08 after power outage

Hey-
Last night i was organizing some events, it was late and i put the computer to sleep with iPhoto still open, around 3 am there was a power outage. This morning, when I turned on the computer and opened iPhoto, it was totally empty. Does anyone know how to get my pictures back? Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To protect yourself from a similar problem in the future see the tip at the end of my signature below:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

FireFox lost all bookmarks after power outage

Yesterday my house had a power outage and when the power is back I open FireFox and find put that all my bookmarks are gone.When I go to one of website that I bookmarked in the past, it say it bookmarked buy it 's not in the bookmark list until I visit the website. Then when I try to bookmark a website it won't let me. Is there a way to get all my bookmarks back?

Lost my MS Outlook files after a power outage.

Need help recovering my MS Outlook settings and folders after a power outage. MS Outlook a part of the MS Office and Business Software for 2011 Mac.

How do I go about doing that?
You would repeat the same exact process that you used when you originally configured the AirPort router when it was new, just out of the box.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Continue to follow the guided setup
You can use the same AirPort name, device password, wireless network name and password that you used previously, or change the names and passwords if you wish.
