Auto save problem

Premiere 5.5
I have got my auto save set to 50 versions at 5 min intervals and I find when the auto save number reaches 50 the earlier ones are not overwritten. The program still comes up with 'saving project' every 5 mins but I can't find where it is saving them (if at all). I have only just noticed this issue (after an untimely crash). A couple of months a go I did a reinstall of Win 7 and  5.5 production premimum, I did not have this problem when I only had Premiere 5.5 installed. Any thoughts..
RMK

Thanks, you were right, the time and date shown on my windows page was the date created not the date modified so it looked like it wasn't saving as the created date did not change.

  • FCP X will not auto save my work

I have been working all morning on a photo slide show in FCP X and I will enter several pictures, transistions, keyframes, etc and then I will add some of my custom generators that I make in Motion as well.  When I finish, I quit final cut normally and go and work in motion for a while.  When I start final cut again after an hour or so, my project has been reverted back to the very beginning state of my work and I loose all but the first 5 minutes.  It does not say, "media disconnected" it just simply deletes everything and starts me over like I had not done any work.
Pretty much a unistall the product and use something else for my video editing needs if there is not a fix for this.  I can't put 16 hours into a project to then have final cut delete all my work automatically.
PS I did edit a few of my custom generators in motion, but it is deleteing just simple images I places in the timeline also.

A lot of people are reporting the auto-save problem. A clear indication it has stopped working is that the Undo functionality also stops working. Personally, I have never encountered this problem, so there has to be some sort of configuration that only some people have which is causing this.
I think you should probably use something else for editing until Apple releases a fix. Especially for anything important.

I have a site I do business with. They do not authorize passwords unless you are a dealer. I do not have passwords on an auto save function, as I want to type my passwords in each time for security. My password for this site will only work a short WHILE, AND THEN it will not be recognized by the site and I cannot get in.
Then I must contact the company to reset or clear it manually on their end so it can be reset. They always give me the SAME SETUP PASSWORD to use. I use it, then I RESET PASSWORD on my end. The computer seems to remember my user NAME AT least on my computer as it comes up once I start typing the username in. They SAY IT is a settings issue on my end. I do not have this problem on any other site even THOSE WITH higher SECURITY. I need to FIX the issue OR may LOSE ACCESS To the site as is very aggravating for them and they say other have had the problem but usually with chrome but never constantly.I am not that computer literate ,but my husband is an IT Security professor and textbook writer but says doesn't really know Firefox. I do not really want to store passwords on computer as have been hacked several times. He and I do not understand some of the terms mentioned. since it is not a problem with other sites it should be fixable. Please me help using terms I or my husband can understand without having to give Firefox all my passwords. I would be happy to set up something different just for this one site if I need to but need easy instructions. Have cleared the cookies before but it still happens. What setting do I need to change or set to fix this? the other questions that come up seem very different and do not apply. FF 22 now but happened w other FF versions.

I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
    Let's start with Firefox's settings:
    (1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.
    Related articles:
    * [[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]
    * [[Use a Master Password to protect stored logins and passwords]]
    (2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
    (3) Form autocomplete suggestions
Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.
To turn off this feature, see this article: [[Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms with your information]].
To review and selectively edit or delete form history entries, you need an add-on. For example, you could try this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

  • Auto save is not working

There is some problem after upgrade to Lion, Auto save version is not working in Iwork and anyone can fix it please advised. T.T

I have experienced projects not being auto save back-uped, and linked that to file structure problems (like I moved the project from the folder where it originally was created, or I changed the folders name where the Pr project was residing after starting it. I think that these things can lead the Auto-Save to get confused sometimes. This can also happen in Ae as well.
I have gotten used to making a duplicate of the project every day or at junctures of major change in the finder. The Mac finder duplicates the project file with the added word "copy" so I know that it isn't the original project file. I then add the date and time to the end of the file name _yymmdd_hh and send a copy to another drive.
It's too bad that there is no option in Pr to have it save the Auto-Saves to different drive than where the original is.
I also use a droplet created with a Mac renaming utility called "Name Mangler". Here is the macro for the advanced area of the re-namer in case anyone is interested.
    [concatenate
              <name>,
              "_", [modified "%y%m%d_%H"],".", <extension>
I just drop the project file onto the droplet and it gets appended with its modification date.

  • The auto save function will not turn off.

While opening some files, I get- "This document was not closed properly, and some of your changes weren't saved. Do you want to recover these changes or discard them?
Niel helped me to figure out that this was happening because the save option and recent items option was checked in the appleworks preferences. I unchecked the "auto save" and "recent Items" options in appleworks preferences>General>files settings window and It seamed to work for awhile but now the problem is back.
I don't know why, but the "Auto Save" folder inside the appleworks User Data folder, which is inside the Documents folder is still saving data.
    Can someone please help?
    Marco

    Greetings Peggy,
Nice write up link! I deleted "appleworks 6 preferences" in home file>library>Preferences>Appleworks folder (and the com.apple.appleworks.plist). Then turned appleworks back on and went to preferences>general settings and unchecked the "auto save" and "recent Items" options in appleworks preferences. I noticed the "make default" option button didn't light up. Do you think that is a problem?
The "document was not closed properly" problem happens about every two days or so. I haven't been able to duplicate what ever I'm doing. I'll wait and see, and let you know.
    Thank you very much.

  • FCPX undo / auto save bugs + RAM Hog - Possible Fix?

    Hi there FCPX users,
I have a 8-core 2010 Mac Pro with 16GB Ram and the stock GPU running Lion 10.7.2
I have been using FCPX since day dot, and have been overall very pleased with its super fast work flow and realtime capabilities.
I have completed over 100 3-4min edits with average project size of 50GB, and a bunch of wedding edits with approx 150-200GB project sizes. The issues I had with 10.0.0 - 10.0.1  were mainly FCPX quitting unexpectedly.
And now on 10.0.2 I have expereinced the well known auto save / greyed out undo bug. I have gone through all the steps via apple care which included:
Trashing the Prefs, repair permissions, check drive space / correct format, new user account and clean install of lion / Final Cut X.
I am still experiencing this issue. So yesterday I purchased another 16GB Ram totaling now to 32GB Ram, and I monitor the RAM usage via "Free Memory".
I Noticed that if my RAM is running low, I "free Memory" without quitting FCPX and continue to work as normal, and so far I have not yet experienced the issue again.
Dont know if this is a temporary fix, but it has worked for an hour long edit (approx 6-7 hrs without restaeting FCPX).
Also, I have noticed FCPX will eat up 16-20GB RAM quite easliy.
Not sure if this problem is related to RAM...
    My 2 cents.

You have to really be conscious when you start a new project and how and where you manage your footage.
No one has complained more than I have about FCPX's quirky behaviors and it can be frustrating. I have worked with FCPX since day one, even tried to get a refund but couldn't. After using it for a while now, it is very easy to get used to how fast some elements are in editing and reviewing a lot a footage. But several things you have to make sure of that will keep the rendering speed up and less crashing happening.
First make sure that you can see how much space you have on your drives by right clicking in the main window of you screen and make the necessary clicks form the drop down menu. Make sure any drives you have been doing projects with lately are hooked up and do a secure empty trash. Its cool to see how much space you regain. 2) make sure that FCPX, Motion and Compressor (if you have those are installed on your boot drive).
    3) Create a FCPX Projects folder on an external (FW800) with at least 75% of its drive space available if you do not have secondary drive installed in your computer. (Its very important to note that any drive you use for any aspect of editing should never be more 75% full, especially your boot drive.) This is where FCPX will log all of its operating files for all of your projects.
    4) Either copy  all of the other FCPX files from your main hard drive and paste then into the new folder you created. Then delete all of those files, as well as any Motion files too! (Do the same as you did for FCPX in the previous step)
    5) If you need to move all of your music files to another drive as well. If its iTunes, you will have to tell iTunes where to look for the new files and it will populate accordingly. This will free up a tremendous amount of space. Make sure to delete them form the main drive.
    6) Remove any junk programs form the boot drive (main) or move them to another drive if possible.
    7) Now do another secure empty trash and watch your drive space return.
    8) Now open up FCPX and make sure you only create projects on your new drive by clicking on that drive in the project window. Any older projects you can simply pull them to the other drive and you will be prompted on how to duplicate that project and all its files to that drive. Delete the other ones.
    9) Only capture footage to you external drives. Save it there until you need it.
    10) Create all new projects on the secondary drive and pull any footage you are working with on that drive as well. By keeping it all off the Boot drive FCPX will run much smoother and faster, especially if you have at least 16g of Ram, which I recommend.
    So to re-cap:
    1. Keep your boot drive lean. Delete anything you can move to another drive. Do not set up events and or projects to it...never!!!
2 Use you secondary drive for your project files and the video you are working with in your events.
    3. Store raw footage on a FW800 drive ready to move to your secondary drive.
    4. Use secure empty trash after all editing sessions when you are certain of your trash contents.
Doing these things have greatly increased much more consistently faster render times and much fewer crashes.
    iMac 27  -  3.5gh  - 16GB Ram  -  Quad i7  -  250SSD/1TBesata  -  External FW800 Drives
    Good Luck

  • Auto save didnt

I guess I dont understand "autosave" I was editing a very important job appication in preview it was a unlocked pdf. I deperatly wanted to save as I made changes to it. But i know I 2don't have to right? shouldn't the last version be saved. To make an already long story short. Lion locked up again. I had to force quit and the work I would have saved was gone. Is there some place to look? I tried time machine with no luck. Also when using word for mac 2011 it does not seem to auto save, does it. Lion is so slow and I am having to force quit and restart more than I have come to expect from apple. I think that they should return to features and return to rock solid OSX that made me a convert back in 2002.

    Yes, it should.

If the system freezes, it can't auto save. A freeze is a freeze.

Here is your real problem. Something is snarky with your system. Mine is rock solid, fast and have never frozen.
You need to find the cause.
There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take.
Be sure you drive is not overly full. Rule of thumb would be over 85%.
(First, be sure you have a good backup, or create one now.)
Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up in Safe Mode  (It will take more time to startup because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair by booting cmd-r to your
Recovery Volume and re-installing Lion. This will be an "install in place" and shouldn't effect your data and settings.
if none of this helps make a clone of your system and then re-format your HDD and do a clean install, migrating back only your own data.

  • Auto Save to iCloud

iCloud seams to be working fine on my mac and iphone. How do I set up auto save to iCloud so I can save stuff from Numbers and Pages to access on my iphone?

    Sjazbec wrote:

You need to manually up- and download office documents via a Browser at ww.icloud.com/iwork. Once uploaded, they are in your iwork apps on iOS5.
That is not entirely a bad thing. iCloud is having reliability problems. You should always keep an offline backup of any files in iCloud.

  • Auto-Save password YouTube / Playlist stops unexpected

    Hello,
I have two problem with my Apple TV and YouTube. Everytime i started my Apple TV i have to re-log in my YouTube-Account (enter password). Are the a solution to auto-save my YouTube-password?
Second: I created playlist for my Apple TV. When i started a Video in this playlist, Apple TV plays only the following 4-5? songs, but NOT the whole playlist.
    Thanks!

    Hi, everything in the "Quick Reference" section should be commented out with ;
You should change those settings further down in the php.ini file.
    Example:
    error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
    display_errors = Off

  • Feature Request:  Auto-save in Background

Here's a feature request I've submitted.  If you agree, please submit your request to:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Background Auto Save
How would you like the feature to work?
Auto-save would work just as it does today, except it would work as a background process, as it already does in Photoshop (without the Autosave popup getting in the way of the edit).
Why is this feature important to you?
The current autosave feature is terrifice and expected in any application today, but the current autosave popup dialog is useless.  It only has a "Cancel" button.  What's the point?  I can't imagine when I would ever want to cancel an auto-save.  And let's say I *did* want to cancel.  The dialog is only on screen for a second or so.  That's not enough time for user interaction, but it is just enough time for my work to be interupted, and for me to potentially hit the enter key as I go to Render something at precisely the same time.

    Hi cscouper2013,
Thanks for taking the time to point out that my BSODs might be a problem with my RAM!  Yes, I'll test it with the program you mention.
    cscooper2013 wrote:
While I'm thinking of it, too.  Sometimes Premiere will do an auto save only moments after I've done a hard save.  That also seems like something to address in the next auto save feature update.  If I have my autosave increment set to 5 minutes, then it seems to me there's no need to do an autosave for another 5 minutes after my last manual save.
I fully agree!  That's something I requested during the CS5 beta program.  I requested that every time a user does a manual save, the Autosave reset its counter.  So for example, if the delay is 10 minutes between auto saves, and the user does a manual save two minutes before the next scheduled autosave, the autosave counter resets to 10 more minutes.  But with the better solution of the current project constantly being saved after each edit, as Jim suggested, this feature wouldn't even be needed anymore.
MonkeyEatsMonkey wrote:If Premiere could "borrow" that functionality, while still retaining a "save as" option for versioning, I feel like we'd have the best of both worlds.  It would even make dynamic linking more seamless, since changes wouldn't require saving. Any thoughts from the community on this?
That would be a perfect solution IMO!  And yes, retaining the 'Save As' option would be very important!
I also like the idea of automatic versioning/backups (could be renamed to 'versions' since with a constantly saved project file, automatic 'backups' would no longer be necessary.
To resume, based on what has been discussed in this thread, I believe these would be the ideal saving options in Premiere:
Autosaving of every edit in the background without slowing down editing performance (as suggested by Jim).
Ability to create a user defined number of automatic backup versions, by setting maximum number of versions and time intervals (as is currently the case with Premiere).
In other words, the current project file would constantly be updated as the user edits.  The automatic backups/versions would be created at user defined intervals.
Users would retain the ability to create a copy of the current project at any moment through the 'Save As' and 'Save a Copy' commands that already exist in Premiere.
Pop-up Auto-save dialogue boxes and the 'Save' command would be a thing of the past!
IMO, this would truly give us the best of both words as MonkeyEastMonkey suggests: constant saving as per FCPX, with the comprehensive versioning options Premiere currently offers.
    Anything missing?

  • Premiere CC - no auto save files since yesterday

    Hi
I have been working all day in Premiere CC - then crash. That happens, but when I realize that there is no auto-save file from today I get quite frustrated to put it mildly (yes I know I should have saved manually). Does anyone have a clue what can cause such a fatal error? I have searched the system for newer auto-save files with no luck. This is going to be a terrible night!
Here is a screenshot of my auto-save folder:
    I am working on a Retina Mac - OS X Version 10.9.4 2,7 Ghz 16GB ram. Premiere CC 2014.0.1

I just had the same problem and lost a project due to this.  I was working on something for the past two hours and there have been zero auto saves since the other day.   Sucks, it's setup to do this every 15 mins and it didn't even do it once during this most recent session.

  • Auto-save a) crashes AE and b) will not turn off via preferences

I seem to be in an endless loop of AE starting, auto-saving, and crashing.
I reported a bug earlier of AE crashing if auto-save begins during a Warp Track. I thought I could defeat this behavior by turning off auto-save in preferences, but, even with that (the save box is unchecked), auto save starts within a minute of opening a project, and freezes AE (staying at 0% Completed indefinitely).
I've deleted AE preferences, verified that auto-save is off, and the problem continues.
Any suggestions of how to defeat this would be very welcome. Thanks!

Caught in the act. After restarting, fixing permissions, reverting to a early (pre-tracking) version of the project, and verifying that auto-save is still turned off, AE tried to auto-save during a track (this time the stabilize phase) and froze.
One possible new detail - it only attempts to auto-save when the tracking footage window is in the foreground. Is it possible that AE auto-save settings do not affect the tracker when it is in the foreground? I worked several minutes without interruption in another comp before returning to see the track, and apparently triggering the auto-save somehow.
    Thanks for any help.

  • PP CS6 Project freezing on Auto-Save and Save-As.

    Hi,
I have a project that I've been using every month to solely to create titles and just yesterday a bug showed up....whenever it goes to auto-save the project, PP freezes and I have to force quit it. I tried moving the project to another location and had the same problem. I also tried  doing a save-as to create another coply of the project and that freezes PP as welll...I am however able to save the project, just not auto-save or save-as. Thoughts??

There is the problem with that sentiment. I don't like the loss of "save as" either. I think the new save/duplicate paradigm has more steps and is poorly implemented to boot. Yet, people complain far more about Versions and Autosave than they do about "save as"? Why on earth would anyone complain about Autosave? There is no user interface change involved with Autosave. It is entirely in the background. If you don't like Autosave, you are free to randomly delete files from your machine and from Time Machine if you want. I don't see what the point of that would be, but it would give you the same effect of not having Autosave. There is more a user impact to Versions, but it still a really cool feature. Why would you not want to have access to old versions of your document? It isn't going to eat much disk space. The last time someone complained about disk space usage by versions I calculated that it would take 38 years for them to run out of space due to Versions. If you don't want to use Versions, don't click on the Versions tools. Problem solved.
I don't want people lumping clear losers (like no more "save as") with clear winners like Autosave and Versions.

  • Want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but CS6 questions about Auto-Save need answers...

    Hi,
I'm on Mountain Lion for all my "non-critical" work, but I'm still running the latest Snow Leopard on my main desktop machine, running CS6 Design & Web Premium. I've avoided the switch primarily because of the auto-save feature that Apple placed into ML. I haven't found a satisfactory answer anywhere on the web to this basic question...is auto-save a problem, as Apple implements it, with CS6 and working on images?
In particular: 1. I work on very larger files, 4GB+ in size regularly, and I don't wan't the peformance hits associated with constant saving, 2. I make changes to images, downsizing them, croping, color corrections, etc. so that I can make jpg proofs for clients or myself. These are more "intermediary" images and not intended to be saved. I don't want to downsample an image, flatten it to creat a jpg for proof and have it overwrite the original image layered, high res by mistake. Does this happen with photoshop, or does Adobe avoid the auto-save that Apple uses?
I have all the latest iOS gadgets and it's becoming quite cumbersome managing multiple sets of iCloud info, etc. without being on ML. I'd like to make the switch, but at the cost of losing work, etc. Can someone with experience on ML & CS6 give me any input in the matter? And, does this also apply to all the other Adobe apps in CS6? I'm constantly making minor changes and edits that I usually "undo" out of and don't want saved.
    Thanks.
    Craig

So, in other words, photoshops behavior works the same, using save as..., etc. as it did under Snow Leopard? I should expect the auto-save behavior that occurs in apps like iPhone, etc., where i can actually lose the original because of the constant backups, etc.?
    Thanks.
