Auto Select Clip with playhead

Hopefully this will be an easy query to answer.
I would like to have premiere auto select a clip on the timeline via the playhead position.
Eg: if I'm using the up & down arrows to go to next and previouse edit, I want the clips to auto select when the playhead jumps to the next clip.
I'm in the process of coming over from Avid but i really miss this behaviour in Premiere.
Can Someone help me out?

Can't be done.  Selecting requires a click.

  • Auto-select clip under playhead? (for color correction)

    Hi all
Another newbie question concerning color correction in FCS2.
When moving from clip to clip in the timeline, the viewer (which contains the 3-way color correction filter) doesn't refresh until I remember to double-click on the current clip to select it. In other words, if I change a filter on one clip, then move in the timeline to the next clip, the viewer still contains the previous clip's filter, and if I forget, I'll start fiddling with it, thinking I'm now looking at the current clip.
    Still with me?
So, my question is, is there an "auto-select" feature whereby, as I move my playhead along the timeline, clips on a selected track (eg V1) will automatically get selected and loaded into the viewer?
I know there is an auto-select feature for tracks, which I've enabled for my video track, but it doesn't seem to be meant for what I want.
    Thanks!
    Matt

If you set the SYNC to OPEN, what is being played in the time line (and displayed in the Canvas view) will also be displayed in the Viewer.
Just a point of clarification - the Viewer doesn't hold the CC filter, it will only display the filters that have already been applied to currently displayed clip. If the next clip displayed in the viewer has not had the 3way CC applied, the 3way CC won't display as part of the filters on that clip.
    Good luck,
    x

  • Select clips with short cut K board PP CS4

I searched high and low for this but can't find a solution. CS6 seems to be able to create short cuts which would be helpful is there isn't one.  I would find it useful especially when animating photos on the time line. So I could move across the time line and see the animation in the control effect panel which would seems easier and quicker with a short cut than the mouse on a double screen.

Ann, going over this again. What I try to say is that if I select a clip with the mouse on the time line (and here I mean a photo) and I have Control Effect open My photo manipulation will show automatically in it and  can see all the work I did on the clip. (Zoom, Position, Rotation, Opacity etc...) and so can modify it for another clip or set of clips. I can quickly go through lot of them but I would have find it more practical with a short cut if there would have been one

  • Opening Compound clips with playhead in place

Hi all - FCPX convert here loving most apsects of the app.
Little issue - I would expect that if you douple click a compund clip it should open with the playhead at the point wher you double clicked to open it - or at least at the point where the playhead is in the Primary storyline.  Aparently it doesn't - instead it remembers where you were last time you were inside the compound clip and you have to find the bit you ouble clicked on (if that maeks sense).
Is there anyway arrive inside a compound clip at the point where I i am in the primary storyline?  It's a litte tedious having to refind my spot each time.

    I find it annoying too!
Here's a little bit of weirdness for you...
Compound clips... they can only be expanded as far as the clip content length they contain. If you have a 15 sec clip trimmed to 10 seconds on the storyline -- make a compound clip of that -- then you can only expand the compound clip to 10 seconds and no further. [You can expand the original clip inside the compound, and dragging the compound trim out will reflect the new length (just for completeness)].
    What does that mean?
Trim the compound clip from the end to your playhead (snapping on makes this easier). Open the compound clip. There is an out point marker where you trimmed the compound clip on the storyline level -- it's easy to see and right on target. You can do anything in the compound clip to all of the original media -- you are not limited by the out point play range -- if the original length of the compound is important, then just make sure you don't add any content (connected clips, etc.) that go beyond your existing media that's already contained in the compound.
Back on the storylline - drag the compound clip all the way out again.
If you don't want to go into a trimmed compound... trim the clip from the back to the playhead anyway. There is a black tag with two pieces of information:
    1) the length of the media from the beginning of the clip to the trim and
    2) the offset of the trim
type command - z to undo
    In the compound:
you can use the length data to find your playhead point and inside the compound (which usually starts at 0:00) you can go straight to the time using the playhead clock (click directly on the clock or type Control - P and then type in the time you got from the trim operation - type Return or Enter.) That will place the playhead exactly where you need it.

  • Batch handle with 'Auto Select' option

    Hello Everyone!
We are trying to find out how the 'Auto Select' button works with batch handle.
Our customer wants to handle batches by FIFO.
We need to try if it is possible to 'Auto Select' batches by 'Admission Date'. Even when we found out that it is possible SBO does not do it rightly, because not always get well organized by 'Admission Date'.
Somebody knows which logic uses the 'Auto Select' option to select batches?
There is some configuration at SBO to handle batches by 'Admission Date'?
    Thanks a lot!

The batch auto selection selects the batches according to the ascending alphanumeric order. To issue based on FIFO method, user has to identify the admission date/ manufacturing date of the batch and issue.
There is No configuration at SBO to handle batches by 'Admission Date'.
As a workaround you can use the batches to startwith  'Admission Date'.

  • How do you turn off the auto select behavior when working with shape layers?

How do you turn off the auto select behavior when working with shape layers?
I am using either of the path selection tools to select only some of the paths on the layer. I have the proper layer targeted. I have the selection too auto select option turned off.
If another layer has a path in that area, that layer becomes auto targeted and I get the wrong path. Turning off the layer is the only way to avoid this but then I have to  turn on the layer back on between making my selection and transforming to use the other layer as guide. Is there any way to stop this auto select? Locking the other layer does not stop the auto select, just prevents editing.

As far as i know the move tool options don't have any effect on the path selection tools.
You might try clicking on one of the path points or on the path itself with one of path selection tools and if you want to select multiple points
you can shift click with the Direct Selection Tool or Alt click to select the entire path.

  • How do I stop auto select or hovering with my trackpad?

How do I stop my track pad / mouse from auto select (Hovering)?

I've been having this problem on my MacBookPro for some time. I live in China.  In January I took it in to the Genius'  in California and they replaced the trackpad.
I think it's a software problem. I continue to have this problem in Firefox and Safari. I use a VPN and I also check preroidically for viruses. I have a clean computer with no viruses. I don't open spam, links or attachments from anyone I don't know well or recognize. My computer is clean.
I use the latest versions of OS and update my software when there are new updates. I'm using 10.8.2. Haven't added 10.8.3 yet but will do so as soon as I see that it is stable.
This problem is quite frustrating. When reading and scrolling down a page of news a new item is selected or text is selected without a click. Sometimes I will be taken to a new page without having clicked anything.
    It's quite a hassle sometimes.
Apple hasn't helped at all with this.

    Hi,
I'm shooting images in a studio tethered, and up until yesterday it was working like a dream. I take a picture and it shows up on my mac... but now it's stopped working. The images capture ok, but the viewer doesnt show the most current picture.
I've checked that 'auto select' is ticked/checked on the HUD... and havent changed anything on my set up... so I'm hoping someone has an idea what it might be.
I'm working with the latest version of Aperture 3 on Lion with a Canon 5D
    Any help greatly welcomed

  • Share selected clips only button not enabled for videocamera

iMovie HD 06. I have 3 adjacent, no transitions clips from one iMovie that I am trying to "share" back to the video camera (I had manipulated/extracted and added audio effects to these 3 clips, which don't cut and paste from existing iMovie to a new project) plan was to share to tape, then reimport from tape back to a different iMovie (to at least get the audio back). Unfortunately the "share selected clips only" button is never enabled. Really don't want to share entire movie. Any ideas?

Well that would make too much sense! iLife 05 Quicktime did not maintain widescreen so I was not keen on trying, but (as you probably knew) iLife '06 quicktime is a nicer beast. Actually went into Apple Store and turned out that, more or less, a combination of forum suggestions........WORKED! So to others that have not been able to cut and paste clips that have had audio extracted, etc.with iLife '06: put playhead a bit before your targeted consecutive clips, click and drag from below the audio tracks upwards and to the end of the target. File, Export, Quicktime, Full Quality, Share. Pick your location to share to. And there you go. Then open a new/existing project, Import (find your desired clips), Open. Your clips with audio, special effects all import without a hitch.
    Have you tried it?

  • UPDATE to "Premiere Pro's #1 missing feature": Auto-Tagging Bins with Shortcuts

In a previous thread (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1179075?start=0&tstart=0) I suggested that Adobe give us FCPX and FCP7-style subclip creation.
I just got some new ideas that improve this previous FR:
AUTO-TAGGING BINS with user assignable SHORTCUTS
    1.   Creating an auto-tagging Bin could be as simple as adding a special character such as ‘#’ in front of its title.  So for example, renaming a Bin from ‘Interviews’ to ‘#Interviews’ would automatically add the tag ‘Interviews’ to the metadata of all clips within it.  Users could even add several auto-tags to a single Bin.  For example, by naming a Bin ‘University #Interviews #Staff’, any clips added to that bin would automatically inherit the searchable metadata tags ‘Interview’ and ‘Staff’, but not ‘University’ since it doesn't have the ‘#’ symbol added in front of it.
    2.  Contrary to FCPX’s 'keyword collections' approach, my approach would also allow Bin/Sub Bin tagging hierarchies.  Imagine the following Bin structure: A parent Bin named ‘Interviews’ containing 3 sub-Bins named ‘Staff’, ‘Students’ and ‘Sound bites’.  Adding an auto-tag to the parent Bin, (e.g. changing the name to ‘#Interviews’) would automatically propagate that tag to the contents of all sub-Bins!  The organizational power of this would be amazing!
    3.  At any time, a user could remove metadata tags from clips simply by dragging the clips out of an auto-tagging Bin, or by removing the auto-tag from the Bin itself.
    4.  Any number of Bins, whether enabled for auto-tagging or not, could be given keyboard shortcuts.  Doing so could be as simple as selecting a new ‘Assign shortcut’ option from the Bin’s context menu, which would automatically bring up the ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’ window, with a new ‘Bins’ root folder twirled open and ready for use (in addition to the current root folders: ‘Application’, ‘Panels’ and ‘Tools’).  For easy visual reference, this ‘Bins’ root folder would automatically be populated with the names of every Project Window Bin, in their current hierarchy.  So, using the previous example, the Bin ‘Interviews’ would have a twirly arrow to twirl down/up its sub-Bins ‘Staff’, ‘Students’ and ‘Sound bites’.
    5. Any time a user adds a shortcut to a bin, that shortcut would appear at the end of the Bin’s name (e.g. adding the shortcut ’2′ to the Bin ‘Interviews’ would result in the Bin’s name appearing like this: ‘Interviews {2}’).  Thus users would always have a quick visual reference for remembering shortcuts.
    6. These options would give users 4 great ways to add clips/sub-clips to Bins for sorting and/or auto-tagging:
Use a Bin’s shortcut to send a clip’s in/out range from the Source Monitor to the Bin.
Use a Bin’s shortcut to create sub-clips of 1 or more selected clips in the Timeline (something you can’t do in FCPX!)
    Drag&drop a clip’s in/out range from the Source Monitor to a Bin.
Drag&drop 1 or more clips from the Timeline to automatically create subclips that inherit any present auto-tags.
IMHO, FCPX still has superior organizational tools vs PP, at the moment, but with the suggested features above, PP would truly one-up FCPX in this regard!
Hopefully all of this is clear.  Thoughts?  Comments?

  • Where to change duration multiple selected clips

In previous answers I've read if you have selected all clips (Cmnd A) and you want to change duration of all still images you press
Ctrl D (change duration) but WHERE on the screen do you change it. If I move the playhead it looses its Ctrl D command. I cannot change the seconds in the timer on the timeline either...? Thanks, Pim

I'm sorry Tom, what is the dashboard. Is it in the middle of the screen above the timeline, with the green numbers (hrs:minutes:seconds:frames). If I do what you suggest these numbers turn out blue (next to the blue numbers the sign of a clip with handlels pop up) but when I try to enter the numner there, or in tne Info screen on the upper right sight where its says Duration, I cannot enter any number. It unselects...?
Nor in the Timeline a cannot drag one of the sides of one of the selected clips (images).
So I got stuck after Cmnd-A (select all images), Ctrl-D...

  • Sequence does not keep up with playhead on timeline. Shouldn't it?

    Hi!
When I view a sequence of clips on the canvas, I expect the timeline sequence to keep moving left off screen as the playhead moves right. Instead, the playhead disappears off screen to the right and the sequence of clips remains on the starting blocks. At the moment, I keep up with the playhead using the left/right scroll on MM. Is there a way of automatically syncing - on screen - the movement of clips and playhead?
    Regards.

Nope. FCP doesn't work that way.
If you believe it should, send the FCP team feedback using the FEEDBACK selection under the FCP item located in the FCP Menu bar.

  • Editing: Move Clip to Playhead?

This seems like a simple question, but can't find the answer after looking through the shortcuts....
OK, I have a clip (or group of clips) selected in the Timeline...
What is the shortcut to position them at the playhead?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

Tom, I guess it depends on what you are working on.  I edit a weekly TV show, localising it for Australian TV.  The program is a single clip, and my job is to cover all the US text with localised info.
I start with last week's project, Duplicate it, then replace the main timeline clip with the new episode from the U.S.  Then I must reposition all the layered localised clips to their new position for that episode.
Thus the timeline never gets touched, but I have many many clips in layers above the timeline.  I am forever dragging and finely positioning a group of clips to cover the US content.  (A group of clips will contain V/O audio, shapes to cover the US text, and new Text).
Positioning these accurately is timeconsuming.  I would, ideally, like to position the playhead, then select the required group, then click a shortcut to have that group of clips reposition themselves to the new playhead position.  Make sense?
This may not be how you use FCPx, but saying the program isn't used this way is to limit how people might want to use it.  I like FCPx a lot, but a few more simple short cuts for the above would greatly improve usability for me.
    Thanks for your input.
    Regards,
    Geoff

  • Selecting clips by timecode? Can I do this? The time code is backwards., Selecting clips by timecode? Can I do this? The time code is backwards.

Selecting clips by timecode? Can I do this? The time code is backwards, it counts down instead of up (duration) like it should.  Selecting clips by timecode? Can I do this? The time code is backwards.  I have a video project where i need to select several clips based on their timecode.  I want to also sent the playhead to a exact spot on the video. Thanks.

It is unfortunate, but there is only one way that the Time Capsule can connect to the BT Hub, and that is by using an Ethernet connection to the WAN port on the Time Capsule.
That could be either by running an Ethernet cable from the Hub to the Time Capsule.....or......if that is not possible, then you might be able to use a pair of Ethernet Over Powerline (EOP) Adapters to send an Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home.
The theory with EOP is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.  In practice, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy in advance before you buy. BT might even offer these devices, so check with them first on this.
If the EOP adapters do not work well, then your only option after that would be to move the Time Capsule close to the Hub and connect the Time Capsule using a normal Ethernet cable of any length that you choose.
I read today that I can access my time capsules data via back to my mac from anywhere in the world.
Back to My Mac (BTMM) assumes that it is the Time Capsule that will be the "main" router on your network.....not another router....which is the Hub in your case.
Unfortunately, you should not expect BTMM to function correctly unless the Time Capsule can be set up as the "main" router on your network.....which is likely not possible in your case.  You would need to discuss that subject with the BT support folks.

  • Is Auto Adjust clip lengths a possibility?

Is it possible to auto adjust clip lengths, something like Select All and Auto Adjust to a given length? I goofed around with a variety of clip lengths and would like to revert to the default length without manually adjusting every clip.

I actually liked having a variety of lengths that went with the timing of the music, but the built in zooms and fades didn't work with what I did. Also, it seemed like reducing clips down to 1 second caused the replay to look jumpy.
