Auto Select Printing

I recently got a Brother printer that has 2 trays, legal and letter size. I am having trouble with my printing options. When I go to print, under size options there is no option of 'Auto Select'. I will be having documents sent to me that open via adobe reader with a mixture of letter and legal sizes. How do I fix this? I have a 2008 MacBook Pro OS X.

Ok i've figured it out.
I used safari to connect to the servers built in cups print manager. ( http://localhost:631 ) Under administrations there is an option to 'share cups printers" after enabling this. any printer i'm sharing by IPP & LPD shows up as a bonjour shared printer. This works great! clients can select the printer, and it automatically populates with the built in print software.

  • Has anyone been able to use auto select printing on pdf documents?

Does anyone have a fix for being able to preset the printer trays to a specific paper size to allow for autoselect printing of pdf documents with multiple size pages?   The mac printing options only allow for letter or legal with scaling.  I need to be able to print large documents with both size pages.  Windows environement can handle this with ease.  I'm very surprised Apple cannot.

I have a Windows pc only for 1 thing - printing pdfs. My problem is that Windows printer drivers allow me to have auto select paper size/tray depending on if the pdf page is standard or legal. I have not yet found anyway to do this through the mac.
I have a Brother HD-5370 laser printer and need some assistance with the paper auto select. If any one has any suggestions or an actual fix, I am all eras.
I have used Snow Leopard, Leopard as well as 10.4 and the problem is with any pdf viewer I have tried (viewer, adobe reader, other 3rd party which names escape me). The option to auto select printing by pdf page size is selected and the drawers are set correctly. It just won't print how it's supposed to.
    any sugegstions,
    Dan

This has been an issue for at least 3 years now. I have checked for driver sin the past and have tried to look up answers via Brothers website - all to no solution to my problem. It just may be that Brother's printers do not have this feature. The options do show as valid options though.
The printer is currently connected to a Windows pc located on a different floor. So in order to test, I have to move the printer or the mac.

  • Can mac auto select pages for print by size

Hello, does anyone knows if there is a way how to set up on Mac auto selecting for printing pages by size? I need it to print loan documents for my notary public business. Using HP laser dual tray printer.

    Hello Shane,
I am notary public and I would recieve file with documents that need to be printed on both legal and letter size paper. I used Adobe Acrobat from my husband's Windows computer which sorts the documents by paper size and then print's them out on correct size paper.
The printer I have is HP Laserjet 400 M401n.

  • How do I get my 8600 premium printer to auto select between tray 1 and tray 2?

How do I get my 8600 premium printer to auto select between tray 1 and tray 2? Right now, i have to pull out tray 1 to get the printer to feed tray 2.

    Hi Retrotriker,
Follow the steps below to properly configure your paper trays.
    1. Touch (right arrow), touch Setup, touch Preferences, and then select Default Tray
    2. Select Tray 2 as the Default tray
    3. Open Printers and Faxes
    4. Right click on printer, and then select Printer Properties
    5. Click on Device Settings tab
    6. On this screen set the media type you have assigned to each tray (Example: tray 1 - Envelopes & Tray 2 - Letter)
    7. Click Apply, and then Ok
    8. When you have an envelope you are printing it will pull from Tray 1
    9. When you have a letter you are printing it will pull from Tray 2

  • 6.1 Print Templates - auto select items in the print dialog popup

In the slide deck I have about 6.1 it says the following:
    •Print Templates
–Print templates can now be used to auto select items in the
print dialog popup. By default, the out of the box template
    selects the current specification
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find how to do this in the EP documentation. Could someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?

Download Extensibility Pack 2.6. It was just released. Take a look at page 11 in the Print Extensibility Guide. It should have the info you need. If not let me know.

  • When printing PDF Adobe reader auto selects the last used printer

    Hi
I have an issue on most of my PC's that when I Print a PDF document the Windows default printer (Printer A) is selected.
If I choose to print to (Printer B) then the next time I open a PDF document (not the same document than before) it automatically selects (Printer B) even though my Windows default printer is still (Printer A)
So basically it remembers what printer was used last and automatically prints to this printer.
This is a big issue as we are printing documents to a plotter. When I then print a normal A4 page it default to the plotter as this was the last used printer. This is wasting so much paper as users just assume it always selects the default printer rather than the last used printer.
    Thanks

How about changing the printer and printing something, then close Firefox and then restart your operating system? See if that helps ....
I am curious why you need two separate versions of the same printer installed. Is one used on a USB connection and the other part of a network configuration or wireless? If both are network or wireless, are they using a different IP address on the network they are on?
The only time I have seen a similar problem with Firefox not wanting to default to the "last used" printer was with a USB inkjet and a network connected laserjet (Brother) - the laserjet would go to "sleep" (energy saving mode) and Firefox would switch to the inkjet every time the laserjet was asleep. That problem was eventually solved when the USB inkjet was replaced by a "network" connected inkjet - still can't understand why that made the difference, though.

  • Auto select paper

    HP photosmart 7525 windows XP
Cannot make the printer auto select the paper draw it pulls from.  Will only pull from whichever paper size is in the printer configuration. All my other printers if you select 8.5 X 11 it will pull from that tray or if you say print photo paper it pulls from that tray.

    Hello vencowings
The printer preferences need to be set so that the printer knows what paper type and size you are printing too.

  • Photosmart 6525- auto select tray

How do i get my photosmart 6525 printer to auto select the correct tray (main or photo) without having to go into preferences and manually switch it? I print on 4 x 6 for photos and then use regular 8 x 10 paper to print word documents.  Going into the settings to switch trays each time is frustrating.  Anyone have a solution?

    Hello jtj360 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you would like to have the printer switch the print setting automatically.
This, unfortunately, is not an option.  You will have to change the print setting manually.

  • Auto select an item in a child node of a TreeView UI control?

    Hi There,
I'm having some issues with a TreeView control in my UI that I cannot seem to resolve, and thought I would ask if anybody here has done this type of thing.  My TreeView is made up of a collection of nodes, each with some child items.  When the window containing the TreeView displays, I populate it with the nodes.  I want to be able to script the selection within the TreeView, but I want the script to select a child items, not just their parent nodes.  Is this possible?  I know it is possible to selecting the parent nodes in a TreeView, but I cannot seem to get the code for selecting, via scripting, a child item of a node in a TreeView.  Any thoughts on how to acheive this?
Thanks for your time and help!
    Best,
    Arie
Here is some of the code I am using for auto-selecting child items of nodes in the TreeView:
//Code to populate the TreeView (picker) goes here
                        //Highlight the last selection
                        for (var i=0; i < picker.items.length; i++)
                            if (picker.items[i].title == SAVED_TITLE){
                                picker.selection = picker.items[i];
                                picker.selection.expanded = true;
                                for (var x=0; x < picker.selection.items.length; x++) {
                                    if (picker.selection.items[x].marker == SAVED_MARKER){
picker.selection = picker.selection.items[x];  //turns out the indices are relative to it's parent, not the picker's indices
                                        break;
                                break;

I had some of the above code wrong:
// function to filter jsx files------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------//
        function filterJSXFiles(file)

  • P2035 not auto selecting tray

For one of my users (P2035 / Windows 8) we are encountering the following new problems.
    Under printing preferences:
    Size: letter
    Source: Auto Select
    Type: Plain Paper
In multiple programs ( WordPerfect & Printing from Chrome browser )
If there is paper in tray 2 AND paper in tray 1 (the bypass tray) it will print from tray 2.
Previously it would detect that there is paper in tray 1 and print from tray 1. This is what I think of as “auto select”
If I load paper in tray 1 and remove tray 2 from the machine it will print from tray 1.
In our postage program (Stamps.com) we had it set to “auto select” for the source, but now it pulls plain paper from tray 2 even if there is an envelope in tray 1. I set it to “tray 1" and got the same results.
So I set the source to “manual feed from tray 1". And then it prompts to load paper and press the “go” button on the printer. Since the envelope is already in tray 1, I press the go button and it prints fine.
I have tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it from the original disk and I have tried the PLC5 driver without success.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    More info:
This morning I swapped the printer that is giving me the problems (P2035) with another printer (P2015). The P2015 works fine, however the P2035 is still giving me the exact same issues at the new desk, I was not expecting that, and it makes me think it might be a hardware or firmware issue.
If it would never pick up from the bypass tray I would think that the switch that indicates paper in the bypass tray was defective, but with tray 2 removed it sees the paper in the bypass tray just fine.
    Any thoughts?
Is there anyway to re-install or update the firmware?
    Thanks

If the other network will not work with your mobile devices, you can remover that network or networks from your settings and then the iPad will not join them at all - unless you manually select them and join them again on your own.
Settings>WiFi>Tap on the blue arrow next to the name of the network that you want to remove. In the next window, tap on "Forget This Network". That will remove the unwanted network from the iPad and it will only join the mobile network that is listed in the settings - if that is the only network listed for the school.
I assume that this is would be OK with the IT folks if they dont want you to use the other networks, but what bothers me is why they would have set your iPad put so that you could use that network in the first place.

  • Stop auto clean print head on hp8500a

My hp8500a printer does an auto clean print head function each time a print page is done. How do I stop this. It takes a lot of time and wates paper and ink.

    Hi @hp8500ahelp,
I read your post and see that the printer is running a printhead cleaning after every print. I would be happy to help you.
Unfortunately you can't turn off this feature. There must be something causing the printer to run the cleaning after every job.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Make sure the correct paper type is selected in the print driver.
Are you using Genuine HP Cartridges?
    What are the ink levels?
Update the printer's firmware. Software and Drivers.
Select Option 2 and wait for the page to load and then select the link for firmware.

  • Auto selection of file from folder during uploading??

    Hi all friends,
Iam facing with one problem I am developing one uploading software for that i have used swing and servlet. Now my problem is i want to give auto selection of file from one folder means user just copy the files from any computer on network and paste it in predefind folder. And when they click on upload button it should start uploading of file one by one and after completion of uploading it move that file into another folder one by one.Now my software doing it perfectly but if user copy and paste any file in that predifined folder from network computer during uploading then they have to click upload button again after completion of first queue of files(for example if user first copy 10 files and start uploading and inbetween uploading of that 10 files if user copy another 10 files from network computer then they have to click on upload button again after completion of uploading of first 10 files). But my user requirement is they want to click on upload button once only at the time of starting my application and my application automatically select the file one by one from folder and send it to destination.Means if they copy the file from network machine inbetween uploading or any other user from network send file in that folder then my application should select those file automatically and start uploading means they don't want to click on upload button again. Can any one plz guide how I can slove this problem.Below r my codes:-

I have set up my airprint wifi printer which works perfectly with the HP eprint app. However, when i view an email and click on the top right arrow button and select "PRINT" on my ipad nothing happens????...
Also, when im viewing websites and i find something i wish to print, same again, if i simply click on the print option at the top right of the screen nothing happens... the only way I can print is if i copy the weblink of the site page then click on my HP eprint app and paste the web link, then select print, it prints off fine.. but its it such a pain to keep copying and pasting links or screen dumping emails just to print...

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app.  I am certain other applications also need this information.  Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. • You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer

    Environment
    Print server: Windows 2008 R2 SP1
Clients: Windows XP SP3 + GPP
    Drivers:
    HP UPD PCL6 5.3.1.10527
    Intermec 7.2.2
    Ricoh UPD PS 3.9.0.0
    Xerox UPD PS 5.216.12
    Zebra 2.6.42.03
GPO Configuration - enables users to add printers/drivers from the print servers.
    Background
For the last year, we've had the 2008R2 print server set up and the clients have not had any problems connecting to the print server to add printers.
    Issue
Over the past ~3 weeks, we've gotten spurious reports from users stating they're unable to add a printer. The specific error displayed is:
You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer.
It occurs for multiple vendors, so it's not a print driver specific issue.  I've personally witnessed the problem where (using a User's account) I was unable to add Printer X out of a list of 10 random printers.  2 minutes later, still logged on
as the same user, I was then able to add Printer X which doesn't make any sense since nothing had changed.
Another user logging into the same workstation will not have any problems adding the same problematic printer.  The user who had the problem can log onto a different workstation and add the same printer with no problems, so it's not a User permission
    issue either.
Most of the time running gpupdate /force and/or rebooting the box will also 'solve' the problem.
Running the group policy results wizard on a few random workstations (which have exhibited this problem in the past), shows everything appears to be properly configured/enabled related to GPOs, including the
Prevent users from installing printer drivers setting per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259937
Has anyone else ran into this problem lately?
How does one troubleshoot this issue since I can't faithfully reproduce it on demand since it appears to resolve itself after a period of time?

Haven't found the smoking gun to this problem, but I am getting closer.
Troubleshooted another PC today which was exhibiting this problem for another user. Logged onto the PC with my User account and sure enough, received the same message for the same printer.   Fired up Sysinternals Process Monitor, but nothing useful
was captured when receiving the failure message.  There was also another Point and Print printer which was present on the workstation (i.e.
PrinterName on PrintServerName) for my User account which stated "printer cannot be removed. Access is Denied" when I tried to delete it.  Odd. Getting properties on the printer would bring up the correct info from the print server
though, so it was valid and appeared functional.
    I tried running the new
MS FixIT printing tool, but it failed in full mode with an admin account.
Next, I searched through the registry for this printername which I was unable to delete. Eventually it was found at:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services\Servers\PRINTSERVERNAME\Printers\PRINTERNAME
On a hunch, I deleted the entire PrinterName key, restarted the print spooler, and then was able to add the printer with no permission errors!  There were several more printers listed in this registry key. I tried the same steps again:
    validate receiving 'sufficient access' error.
    purge printer's registry key
    restart spooler
Able to add the same printer via point and print.
This solved the problem on half of the printers. The others added with no errors.  The printer drivers in question are from both HP and Xerox, so I doubt it's a vendor specific issue and instead Windows (unsure if XP or 2008 though).
It would appear that Windows caches the information about the printer/driver/settings/etc from the print server in CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services\Servers\PRINTSERVERNAME\Printers\PRINTERNAME ?  Why does it need to be duplicated
    in both HKLM and HKCU?
Separate PC, further exploring this printer issue and the contents of the \LanMan Print Services\Servers\PRINTSERVERNAME\Printers\ keys.  On this PC, I successfully ran the MS FixIt for Printing tool in Full mode and rebooted.  After reboot, the
System Event logged the following for multiple printers -- which should've been deleted --
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Print
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 23
    Date: 4/9/2012
    Time: 5:11:48 PM
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: U-xxxxx
    Description:
Printer UH-xxxxx-COLOR failed to initialize because a suitable Xerox Global Print Driver PS driver could not be found.
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Print
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 23
    Date: 4/9/2012
    Time: 5:11:48 PM
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: U-xxxxx
    Description:
Printer UH-xxxxxx failed to initialize because a suitable HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v5.3) driver could not be found.
Yet a minute later, the updated driver was automatically installed via P&P:
    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: Print
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 20
    Date: 4/9/2012
    Time: 5:12:22 PM

    Computer: U-xxxx
    Description:
Printer Driver HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v5.4) for Windows NT x86 Version-3 was added or updated. Files: <snip>
Sure enough, after checking the \LanMan Print Services\Servers\PRINTSERVERNAME\Printers\ keys, all of those printers which logged EventID 23 were still present!  This time, I manually deleted the entire \LanMan Print Services\Servers\PRINTSERVERNAME\Printers\
subkeys, rebooted the PC, logged on, and those errors did not repeat.
Something strange is definitely going on with the printing subsystem on XP lately...
