Auto shuts down - could it be the power adapter?

I'm having problems with my first generation macbook lately, it will auto shuts down (not sleep) with the power adapter still attached. And when it shuts down, the adapter still light up green. Im working without the battery, it is removed all the time cos it is dead already.
Could the problem lies with the power adapter? but it's still shows green light, that means there is still power running thru? I would like to test with another power adapter but i don have friends who have a mac. I don't want to spend money one another power adapter, without knowing the cause.
Is it possible to do a test on the power adpater? thanks!

A test you could try (rather than another adapter) is to put the "dead" battery back in and run it on AC. As Gregory said, without the battery, the slightest knock to the magsafe connecter may cause it to disconnect, even momentarily, thus you lose all power and your MB turns off. Hopefully the battery will have enough capacity to allow the MB to stay on (briefly) when the connecter is disconnected for that moment. Just an idea.
Good luck.

  • My Ipad is just over a year old.  I just got a blue screen, then it shut down.  I pushed the power and screen buttons together and it came back, but then went down again and now I can't get it to power up.  Any suggestions.

Can anyone help with the blue screen I just got.  Tried to power back up like one Apple user suggested by holding the power and screen button together, came back briefly, then shut down.  Now nothing.  Any help?

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • PXI-8106 shuts down shortly after boot, the power light is flashing.

How can I tell if this is a board power supply problem in the NI PXI 8106 or a PXI crate problem?   The time between shut downs decreases to the point where it will not boot at all.

    Hi dlknies-
Take a look at the PXI-8106 User Manual on page 3-14.  It says that a blinking Power LED indicates that one of the PXI or onboard supplies is operating outside of the normal limits or is not functioning.  You can attempt the repair yourself or you can have it sent back to National Instruments for an RMA.
I hope this helps.  Best of luck to you!

  • AutoTrim & Include Subfolders From A Folder & Preserve Subfolder Structure & Auto Shut Down Computer - ALL In Batch Processing Mode And Match Volume Mode ?

    Hi! I salute you all!
First of all I want to excuse my english (it's not my native language)!
In 2014 we are dealing with thousands of files (video, audio, etc.), because of the present powerful technology, still... we are missing very important and useful parts for doing our jobs properly and very quickly!
In this case is Adobe Audition too, in my oppinion!
Adobe Audition is a great program, which help us to edit in many ways our audio files, but... unfortunatelly has major missing parts, which would be nice to be implemented as soon as possible!
Some of them are are right below this line:
    1. AutoTrim (for removing silences from audio files, before and after)
    2. Include Subfolders From A Folder (when adding a folder for working with, we should have the possibillity to add its subfolders too)
    3. Preserve Subfolder Structure (when exporting a folder with its all subfolders, we should have the possibillity to export the exact structure like the original)
    4. Auto Shut Down Computer (when all the tasks/jobs are done, we should be able to auto close the program and auto shut down our desktop/laptop as well)
When you will add these features which are so wanted, to have them all in Batch Processing mode and Match Volume mode as well, please?!
Many other audio softwares have all of these "old" possibillities, like "GoldWave" for instance (I am not advertising it at all), but the Adobe Audition which is more complex...doesn't so far!
I thank you all and I really wait for these very next future feature requests!
    Have a nice day!
P.S.: Is this message/question read by Adobe stuff members (persons who can take decissions in this way) too, or only by us, the comunity members?!

Any ideas of what the problem may be?
    Powerbook G4 15   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The best thing that you can do is purchase an enclosure for your internal drive (see -> http://eshop.macsales.com/search/2.5%22+usb+enclosures), use a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a Torx T6 screwdriver (also available in a kit from OWC/macsales -> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/TOOLKIT14/) and get the hard drive out and into the enclosure (it's quite simple to do and there are videos at OWC that will help -> http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/).
Once the drive is in the enclosure you can plug it into any Mac and retrieve your data. Probably the best thing to do would be purchasing an external drive and copying (or cloning, see -> http://www.bombich.com/) the data from your internal (now in the enclosure) to the external drive.
Then reverse the process, putting your internal drive back in place, and take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP. I know that it sounds rather convoluted, but you'll be able to use the external drive afterwards to make backups (see -> Most commonly used backup methods).
Make sense? Or am I just being confusing?

  • Battery doesn't charge AND frequent shut down when only on AC power

    Hello all,
I've spent some time browsing and searching this forum to avoid asking a question that has already been answered but I haven't seen a complete answer to this situation so here goes.
I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 model 0768DKU.  Battery (P/N 92P1185) started not charging/not holding a change about 6-8 months ago AND the laptop now abruptly shuts down even when on AC power.  From the forum I found out about the 18 month battery replacement policy but I'm just a few months past the 18 months so out of luck there.  Normally I would just buy a new battery but the last few months I've been getting very frequent shut downs when the laptop is exclusively on AC power even with the battery removed!  This has kept me from buying a battery because the laptop won't stay on even when it's plugged into the wall then how will a battery help?
This has really thrown me for a loop since the laptop may run 30 minutes then it's dead like you pulled the power cord.  Turn it back on maybe 10 minutes then dead, or 5 minutes then dead repeat over and over.
Steps I've taken since browsing the forums:
    Virus scans/spyware are clean
Used compressed air on the fan vent to remove a little dust, opened up and sprayed out dust nothing major.
Speedfan is reporting cpu temperatures of 65C to 69C at 99% idle.
    Reseated memory
    Questions:
Would a new battery potentially solve this problem?  I'm not sure how since it shuts down even with the battery removed and only the power cord plugged in.
    Bad AC adapter?
Thermal problem?  It looks like the cpu is still below temperature ranges based on Intel but it sure seem like a thermal problem to me the way it shuts down.  I'm trying some new thermal grease tonight but not sure if that will realy make a difference.
Any suggestions, I'd hate for it to be motherboard, etc.
Sorry if this was answered elsewhere I've seen all the battery posts but not how the battery would address the fact the laptop shuts down even when on AC power with or without the battery installed.
    Thanks,
    Chad

Hard reset didn't work for me either, thanks for the tip it was worth a shot.
Thermal paste kept temps lower around 45C still suddenly shut off like usual while on AC power.  3, 5, minutes, etc.  Doesn't appear to be thermal.
Could the "bad" battery somehow be messing up the power circuit and cutting off.  Looks like the battery problem with these units is huge wish I'd been looking earlier since I was within the extended 18 month period at the time.  Just want to hear that someone bought a battery and it fixed the problem....

  • Powerbook G4 randomly shuts down even with full battery power

I have a three and a bit year old powerbook g4 (my apple care ran out in November) that has recently - as in the last two days - started randomly powering down without warning or error messages, regardless of how much battery power I may or may not have.
A bit of history - not sure what is and isn't pertinent.
I only recently - about six months to a year ago - switched out my recalled battery for a replacement one.
I also received a new power cord under warranty within the last year - but have had no problems before.
Before my powerbook came out of warranty, I took it into my local genius bar to have tests run to see if anything was wrong that I was not aware of, hoping to be able to get it fixed while still in warranty - it came back to me with no repairs and a clean bill of health.
I was on vacation for two weeks, and while on vacation my powerbook sat - powered down - in it's bag untouched the whole time. The problems started (or at least I first noticed them) within a few days after returning.
The other day, before any of this started, I noticed that even though the power adapter was in and glowing, the battery charging icon said "not charging".
The second time the random power-off happened, I did notice that the battery icon had an "x" in it, before it shut down.
The shutdowns are not like proper shutdown processes... one minute the computer is on, the next it's not. It's like the computer thinks there's no power, regardless of the actual charge of the battery.
I use my laptop on a laptop tray to maintain airflow underneath it and reduce overheating, but even so, the laptop seems to get very hot (although this is one of the issues I was worried about when I took it in to the genius bar before the warranty ran out, and they said it didn't get any more hot than they were supposed to), and also the power connector gets very hot. I don't know if overheating might have something to do with it?
So far I haven't noticed if it has happened while I've had the AC adapter plugged in... I think it only happens if it's running on battery, but not completely sure of this.
After the computer shuts down, I can restart it immediately (though these days it is taking longer) and I do not receive any error messages.
I usually turn off my computer when I won't be using it for a while - like before I go to bed or to work.
I recently upgraded my OS from panther to leopard, but was assured that it was compatible. I've had Leopard installed for at least three months, and the problems have only just started, so it probably doesn't have anything to do with that.
Well, that's about every possible piece of information I can think of that might be at all relevant to the situation. Does anyone have any ideas about what's happening? I have a feeling the news is going to be bad and I'll probably have to get a new computer...

Here's the Apple article on how to reset the PMU:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Possibly this might fix the problem. If not, here's a link to the MBP battery program:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
This program does NOT apply to your battery, but I think you may recognize some of the symptoms that yours is exhibiting. It also sounds like your power adapter may be getting warmer than it should, but that could have to do with the battery being defective. But if less than a year old, the power adapter should also be under its own warranty period.
If you have access to an Apple Store, you could make an appointment with the genius bar. They should be able to evaluate both the battery and the power adaptor by swapping yours out with ones that are known to be good. If not, call Apple.
    Good luck!

  • Nokia Auto shutting down problem

Since last week my 5800 shuts down like crazy.
1 time it shuts down like after 10 seconds when started up
    then after 50 mins...
I have the latest firmware installed.
    Already hard resetted the thing.
    I did notice something:
When I took the sim card out and rebooted the phone, it didnt auto-shut down anymore
Put the card back in, the same **bleep** again.
Tried different sim cards but all managed to shut down the phone
    anything to solve this ?

hmm could have something to do with the connectors, might be a hardware issue. take it to nokia care and see what they might say. if it works ok without sim, and not with it, it might be a communication issue between the device and sim

  • Pre Turns Off or Shuts Down when I close the keyboard

Is my pre screwed or is it OS?
It shuts off, not the version that other people have had where you have to pop the battery (the power button still works to turn it back on) out to get it to restart.  Anyway, it shuts off when I slide it closed.  I thought maybe something loose so I did it very slowly, not allowing it to even go all the way, the minute that the sensor tripped it back into "no keyboard" mode it turns off.
It's especially bad when on bluetooth...happens every single time.
Is there a solution for this.  Please palm, a lot of people are having this problem and there is no answer yet?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Palm is on deathwatch.  The Pre could have really kept them afloat, but there are too many problems with it.  When I first got my Pre in June, it was awesome!  Everything worked great.  But now, I am always having problems with it.  Here is the list:
    1. Pre turns off or shuts down when I close the keyboard.  (I had to make this one the first on the list since it is the topic.)
    2. Pre turn off or shuts down for no apparent reason and the only solution is to remove the battery, wait a second, put the battery back in, then turn it back on.  This takes forever.  Plus, because I have removed the back so often, my Pre squeaks when I am typing (from the plastic).  It is very annoying.
    3. The navigation system has a glitch where most of the time, it cannot find my current location.  The message says to make sure I am in clear view of the sky, but i always am.  There are many posts about this problem in other sections.  There are some solutions, and the often work, but it takes 5 minutes to reset the system.  It is a beating.
    4. The navigation system voice is usually very clear, but sometimes, the voice will skip over the names of streets as she is calling out the directions.  Ex. "Turn right on ________ Drive."
    5. Sometimes the keyboard will stop working.  I have to remove/replace the battery.  Again, this is time-consuming and further contributes to the squeaking problem when typing because you have removed the back so many times.
I like Sprint because I can get unlimited data, txt, and mobile-to-mobile calling for $70/mo.  So, I hope that someone comes out with a great touch-screen phone (not the BB Storm), because I want to stick with Sprint.  If you go with an iphone, you have to get AT&T, which will cost you at least $100 for the same.  That is a $360/yr difference!  I am sticking with Sprint.

  • How to disable auto shut down when doing line-in recordi

I am using Zen V Plus 6gb to do li've line-in mic recording.
I experience creation of a few tacks when the recording ends.
When I asked Creative Tech, they said it is auto shut down when the voice recorded falls below audible level. Can I disable this?

If I got you right, it interrupts the recording when a period of seconds no signal more loud than a certain level is
on the line-in source? Right? Normally you could aplify anything, even white noise, but I don't get the point.
Are there any songs that have longer interruptions than 5 seconds according to this cd norm?
