Auto-Stack by Capture Time: results don't match selected interval

I selected a collection of 2075 images in Grid mode, and invoked Auto-Stack by Capture Time, with "Time Between Stacks" set to 0:10:00. This resulted in all images being grouped into 7 stacks -- but the difference in capture time between one stack and the next stack was only a couple of seconds.
I then changed the interval to 0:20:00, and repeated the Auto-Stack command. This resulted in all images being grouped into 4 stacks -- and again, the difference in capture time between one stack and the next stack was only a couple of seconds.

Thanks Bob for that very fast reply!
But neither "Modifying hal configuration" nor "Using the Desktop Environment settings" (xfce) worked. So I tried the "I don't want this crap, how do I turn it off?" solution and well it works
Maybe I turn it back on in a month or so.. but for now i'm fine with no hot plugging but a working keyboard...
Thanks and Bye!

  • Auto-stack by capture time not correct

    Hi,
I have 28 photographs taken sequentialy but not at same intervals; they are part of a collection. I proceed to select all of them and choose "Stacking-Auto stack by capture time..." from the context menu and choose time between stacks as 0:01:00 (one minute)
However I find the capture time of photos in any one stack exceed 1 minute!!  For instance, these are the capture times of photos in a single stack:
         8:19:12PM, 8:19:25PM, 8:19:43PM, 8:20:24PM, 8:21:19PM, 8:21:45PM
We can clearly see that the capture times between members of this stack are not within 1 minute. What can is happening?
    Thanks,

This is a maximum interval setting.  It has nothing to do with the total timespan of the whole sequence. Just, how closely-spaced the individual shots  were. These were less than half a minute apart.

  • Auto-stack by capture time messed up my stacks

After manually creating many dozens, perhaps a hundred stacks, I tried the Auto-stack by Capture Time feature.  Now my stacks are totally messed up; I either have way too many or none.  Is there any way to get back to where I was except by reverting to an earlier saved version of the catalog?

  • Intelligent Auto-Stack by burst Time?

    Hi,
I'm just back from a dawn shoot by the sea where I was using auto-bracketing. Have hundreds of shots as each moment gives different reflections, blurry movements of boats, and people (late partygoers, early fishermen ;-) etc, I had lots of ND etc in use to get really silky water ... the result?
Lots of small groups of shots (3 at a time) that are spread over a lot of time, and the existing auto-stack is reasonably useless. But, they were taken with high-speed drive on, and so I know there is only fractions of a second BETWEEN the shots - please can you give us an option to auto-stack by the time *between* the shots? You have the start time of a shot, and the length of a shot (shutter speed), so you  could compute the gap between them just as easily as just looking at the start time.
This would allow me to stack by (say) 1/4 second which would catch all of my groups of shots perfectly, even though some shots in a group are 15s long
And, at a sporting event, I could auto-stack my shots by each burst of the shutter, no longer how long, and still get seperate stacks for bursts taken even half a second apart!

  • Image Trace colors don't match selected color group. (Mac, CS6)

When I select the Document Library option when making a color image trace, the colors shift in the image but do not match the selected color group. I've tried multiple color groups, and the colors always change, but never match the selected swatches. Is this typical? Can anyone explain this?

After some additional experimentation, I discovered the problem was with images dragged from iPhoto and dropped into an illustrator file. When I placed the files instead, the colors matched the selected color group. After trying several other images using both methods, it appears as if dragging and dropping from iPhoto is a no-no when wanting to image trace and change the colors.

  • Lr no longer sorting images by capture time

    Good afternoon,
I've been using Adobe Lightroom 2 with Photoshop CS4 without any problems.
However, recently I've been having problems with the order in which LR is storing my images.
I work in Raw and always start from LR. From there I open my image in Photoshop before making any adjustments and then saving as a 16bit PSd or Tiff.
On the first save the psd/tiff file is stored as normal in LR - i.e next to the original raw and virtual copy. But now, when I return to make any alterations in Photoshop the re-saved psd file is moved to the very beginning of the Lightroom library. The box around the image is blacked out and against it it has a message '2 of 0' and the phrase 'photo is part of a stack'.
I don't understand why it's doing this and I don't use stacks purposely. I just want my images all on display, next to each other for ease of use.
All my photos are sorted by capture time and even though the files in question are of the correct time it still doesn't stop Lightroom from placing it at the top, well away from where it ought to be.
It's not a massive issue but it is quite annoying when you have thousands of images in your catalogue, and it's never done it before. I've restored LR to the default settings but it hasn't made any difference.
    Please can anyone help.

    Thank you very much.
    I tried as suggested
    > Stacking> Auto Stack By Capture Time
and that moved the psd file back into line.
I've tried opening up a few of the psd files into Photoshop and re-saving and so far so good! They're still alongside the original raw files.
The strange thing is that the sort order is/was set to capture date so I don't know why it moved it in the first place.
    Thank you again. Much appreciated.

  • Auto-stack on import in Aperture 3?

My recollection of the Aperture 2 trial was that I could choose to auto-stack, based on times, while importing images. I can't seem to find the option to do that in Aperture 3. Once the images have been imported into a project, I can then have them auto-stacked, but they don't seem to come in that way.
Am I missing something obvious in Aperture 3? Did I hallucinate this feature in Aperture 2?

I've found a way to do it, but it's not as intuitive as it was in Ap2.
The box that shows which images will be imported now as a little check-box by it, and they all start ticked, by default. You have buttons, up top, to check all, or uncheck all. And the button down in the lower right is now labelled "Import Checked," when I think on used to have the option to "Import All" or "Import Selected" (after you'd done normal style multiple selection on the files).
There's an auto-stack dialogue, that you can access at any time from the stacks menu, but you can't actually move the slider unless images are selected. So, on import, do a command-A to select all (as opposed to the check all that's done by default), and then open the auto-stack dialogue and set your time, and you can see how things will stack. Then, press "Import Checked" (assuming they're all still checked), and the images will come in, and already be stacked as they were at the source. So, it's available, but nowhere near as friendly to use as it was.

  • Find photos with matching capture times?

I've been using Lightroom as a way to develop RAW images for sometime but I have only recently started to use it as an organizer in a serious way. I've transferred 25000+ photos from various Photoshop Elements catalogs into one Lightroom (2.6) catalog.
Due to the way I imported from Elements, I have a number a versions of the same photo - for example: DSC4041.JPG and DSC4041_edited.JPG.
I would like to focus my attention on photos that have the same capture time and do some tidying up of the new catalog. While I can sort by capture time which would put these "duplicates" together, 25000 photos is a bit many to glance through.
I cannot discover a way to filter the photos to show just the near duplicates. I can use the Stack by capture time to create stacks of photos with the same capture time but then I cannot discover a way to persuade Lightroom to show me only stacked photos?
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for this suggestion. My folder heirarchy is already organized by date so I could do what you suggest - but it still basically involves looking at each day and effectively glancing (however briefly) at too many shots.
I've decided instead that I will hunt down duplicates or near duplicates in the file system itself - remove what should go and then ask Lightroom to resync the folder heirarchy which should remove the duplictes. I always write metadata changes directly to the photos and I have backups of the catalogs and the photos should my approach create problems.

  • Lightroom: Capture time for videos imported from iphoto is not showing in metadata

Hi, I imported all my photos and videos from iphoto to Lightroom recently using the iphoto import plugin.  I think all my photos were imported but I noticed that all my videos have no capture time, so they became grouped together in my collections.  But I think I can still see their capture time in the "grey text" in each photo.  Why did this happen and how do I resolve this issue?  I really want my capture times to be in the video metadata and also want to see my videos in the right chronological order with my videos.   Strangely, videos imported into Lightroom directly from my camera SD card do not have this issue, only the ones imported from iphoto do.  Thanks!

LR does not properly handle video metadata in general, and in particular it often botches capture time.  Sometimes this works:  Select one video, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and then click Change All (without actually changing Corrected Time).  If that sets the capture time to the correct time, then you can select all the problem videos, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and click Change All.   If you have a small number of videos, you can manually correct the capture time using Edit Capture Time.
Please see this thread in the official Adobe feedback forum for more details, vote on it, and add your opinion: Lightroom: Metadata applied to videos in Lightroom isn't available in other applications

  • How to change capture time?

I had wrong year setting om my camera. Now all shots are 2010 and not in 2012. I tried to change them including check the write settings into raw-files.
The creation date are still 2010 and wrong, when I look at files in the finder.
second: how to move the pictures from the wrong 2010 folder to the 2012?
Thanks for any help of this very difficult and irritating issue.

This link directly takes you through step by step directions:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS57264460-DC72-4a1f-A665-1E90907A9FFD.html
With one or more photos selected in the Grid view, or with a single photo selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, do one of the following:
Choose Metadata > Edit Capture Time.
In the Metadata panel with EXIF information displayed, click the arrow in the Date Time field.
In the Edit Capture Time dialog box, select the type of adjustment:
Adjust To A Specified Date And Time Changes the capture time to the date and time you specify.
Shift By Set Number Of Hours (Time Zone Adjust) Changes the capture time by the number of hours you add to or subtract from the original time.
Change To File Creation Date For Each Image Changes the capture time in the camera EXIF data to the file creation date. If you select this option, skip step 3.
In the New Time area of the dialog box, do one of the following:
If you selected Adjust To A Specified Date And Time, type a new date and time in the Corrected Time text box. You can also select the date and time values and then use the Up or Down Arrow buttons to increase or decrease the values.
If you selected Shift By Set Number Of Hours, choose a value from the pop-up menu to adjust the time forward or back.
Important: If more than one photo is selected in the Grid view, Lightroom changes the capture time for the active photo by the specified adjustment. (The active photo is previewed in the Edit Capture Time dialog box.) Other photos in the selection are adjusted by the same amount of time. If more than one photo is selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, the capture time is changed only on the active photo.
(Optional) To revert the capture time back to the original, select the photos in the Grid view or the Filmstrip and choose Metadata > Revert Capture Time To Original.

  • Auto Stack JPG's in Front of Raw

    Hi,
I shoot everything JPG plus Raw.  I have a number of reasons why, but would rather not make this post any longer..... I would like to be able to view everything in my library with all JPG's stacked in front of the RAW with the same file name.  I have been able to Auto-Stack by time (setting time to Zero Seconds) does this.  The Problem is that the NEF's appear first in the stack.  I want the JPG's first, always.  I can figure out any way to do this automatically.  It looks like I would have to manually change which file is first.  I shoot thousands and thousands of files, I need to automate this.  How can I do this?
Secondarily, does anyone know how I could apply a star rating to just the jpg and have it also apply to the raw file?
    Thanks

Thanks for the question.  Here is an example of why
Yesterday - Easter Egg Hunt at my House.  I shot about 300 pictures.  Raw plus Jpg.  I want to go through them and I'll choose about 25-35 shots to document the event and perhaps make a photo book that I can keep for us and send to a few friends.  I want the JPG's for this purpose.  My JPG's generally look quite good.  I do pretty good job with my in camera capture and settings.  So, I want to be able to either spend zero time on these 25-35 shots or perhaps just 30 seconds to 1 minute on some or all to crop, vignette or some very quick adjustments, make my book and I'm done.  My wife is happy, my friends are happy and I have somehting to remeber the event.
Then I will then have 2-5 really nice shots that I'll want to really work on.  I might spend 10-20 minutes on each of these.  I will generally process the raw file for the purpose.  Occassionally the JPG's are just fine, so I'll just process those a bit further.  I'll end of with a 2-5 "Hero" shots of the event.  I might use these to add to the photo book or to print or add to my portfolio.  Often I might just tag them to work tomorrow or next week or even next month when I have more time.
So I want to go select my 25-35 shots from the 300 with a simple pick off the JPG's, then the one's I really want the very best quality and versatility I.d like to be able to click on the stack (JPG in Front, Raw behind total of just 2 shots) and work the Raw file (the Negative). I don't ever have time to process more than a handful of Raw shots from any one shoot and frankly 95% of the time the JPG's look as good as the Raw files even after a fair amount of processing, so I really only need to process the Raw file on certain types of files.  Having said that I am a very competent at processing and use combination of lightroom, photoshop, NIK, OnOne and Topaz.  I just don.t need to do post capture and pre-out sharpening, cloning, healing, content aware fill, gradient filters, advanced color processing etc... on 98% of my files.  The JPG's I create are good enough most all the time.
It seems that many people would want to work this way.  I don't to rate all of the JPG's and the Raw's.  I just want the Raw's (negatives) behind the JPG's so I can dive into them if I need to for the 5% or so of the files that I really want to spend time on.  That doesn't mean I won't use the the other 95% (well more like 10%), it just meanst that the jpg's are just fine to email to friends or make photo books.  Not every file that comes out of Lightroom is supposed to be the cover of Sports Illustrated.  Raw and the JPG that I captured are the same file and it should be treated as such.  Importing as the same file doesn't give you any access to the JPG so I don't see the purpose.
agree with your workflow and raw+jpg should be linked as same file (as in aperture)

  • Auto-Stack by interval BETWEEN photos

    Hi,
I want the auto-stack feature to pick up the shots that I take in a burst, regardless of the shutter speed that they are taken at. At the moment the auto-stack seems to check the time-difference between the capture time of the photos; this is useful to a degree, but I would prefer a method where the time-difference in calculated between the end of one photo and the beginning of the next -
e.g. "[Capture time of photo 2] - ([capture time of photo 1] + shutter speed)" < specified auto-stack time
This would allow me to stack all shots that are taken in a burst, regardless of the actual shutter speed. This woulkd mean that low-light HDR bursts with AEB which result in shutter speeds of up to 30s would stack correctly, and be seperate to the next HDR burst even if it started 1 second later!
    Gary

However I find the capture time of photos in any one stack exceed 1 minute!!  For instance, these are the capture times of photos in a single stack:
         8:19:12PM, 8:19:25PM, 8:19:43PM, 8:20:24PM, 8:21:19PM, 8:21:45PM
This is a maximum interval setting.  It has nothing to do with the total timespan of the whole sequence. Just, how closely-spaced the individual shots  were. These were less than half a minute apart.
IOW: how long can pass between one shot and the following one, before that is no longer considered to be part of the same continuing sequence.

  • Auto-stacking by millisecond intervals

This has probably been requested already, but I can't find it.
Can we add support for auto-stacking by intervals of less than a second? I think milliseconds would be fine but microseconds would certainly cover all sins.
I'm thinking that this would be a trivial feature to add and great for stacking rapid (handheld) HDR captures.

Thanks, but I definitely need it this way. You see I download stories into imagery, for example an article on Gizmag may take my eye and so I download the image, then embed the story into the metadata and the title etc... often there is more than one image to this story, its relevant and I like it also, so that gets downloaded. Once in my Library I stack them to keep them together, this is something I do quite regularly.
You'll agree I'm sure that stories and articles, blogs and the like all start with an image or at least feature one, its how we consume information these days, so the image is the story for me, I'm a very visual person.
I keep the trackback URL of the story for reference, this is a constant among imagery from a particular story and so I could stack with this data. The idea of Stacks at present I think then must be for traditional professional DSLR types, well, I'm more versatile with what I'd like to use Aperture for, I think its taking on that role with the third release accepting video and audio also.
If I can't script it behind the scenes then I guess it can't be done... perhaps there is a way to automate filtering by URL and then Stacking the results? But would I have to watch that or would it be a background job?
    Thanks.

  • Auto Stacking by URL on import with script?

There is a constant other than date/time in my imagery which I would like to Stack by, that is automatically. However the auto-Stacking feature is hard coded for date/time only, where as I may stack any imagery I please, manually, there is no flexibility on the automation of it, as I understand.
So, I was wondering if a combination of script action on import might be a way around this? Is there a way to stack by the IPTC:Source field so that any imagery with the same URL will be stacked, in order of date.

Thanks, but I definitely need it this way. • Auto-stack bracketed raw images?

When I execute the auto-stack panorama / HDR command on a directory filled with exposure bracket groups intended for HDR processing, Bridge issues a warning message "Image is missing preview data" apparently for each and every image it inspects.  If I click through however many warning messages come up, eventually, the command properly stacks the raw images.
I actually tried the build and export cache feature, exporting  a cache directly to the directory of raw images I wanted to stack.  That did not help.  Still get the same warning message over and over again.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

I actually tried the build and export cache feature, exporting  a cache directly to the directory of raw images I wanted to stack.  That did not help.  Still get the same warning message over and over again.
Never used this before (I always first sort and rate my files manually) but tried it on a folder and first time had two of those messages (but there where a few other files- already fused using Photomatix- and some layered etc etc. that might have caused that). Then I tried it with a bunch of HDR and Panorama  files (already saved as tiff for use in Photomatix BTW) that I placed in a new folder. Now the result was better but to be honest not completely flawless, it left out 1 file out of 4 stacks from total 22 files.
Then tried again on the folder before and this time no error messages but also a pretty lousy result I'm afraid. Some clearly 1 stop difference series of 6 shots divided in 2 stacks so I stick with my manual method
However it might be a cache related problem for you. If you have one folder for testing first try a purge cache for folder using the menu tool / cache / purge cache for folder and try again
