Auto start Front row when insert DVD

Bonjour,
May the subjet has been already discussed, but is anyone
know an applescipt that can auto start front row when a DVD is
loaded?
Thank you

I couldn't get this suggestion to work on two different Macs. I don't think the Front Row.app is handled the same way as other applications. For example, you can't launch Front Row by double clicking on it inside the CoreServices folder.

  • Automatically start Front Row

I've ditched the AppleTV in favour of a second Mac Mini. Much better. I'm streaming HDTV bitstreams and DVD (MPEG) bitsreams from a USB drive attached to Airport Extreme. (Simple alias creation in the MOVIE folder and additional components installed for Quicktime). No loss of quality through converting to h.264. No waiting around 24 hours to encode. Front Row interface is MUCH better than AppleTV interface.
Two questions which I can't find the answer to: First, is there a way to automatically start front row? I would like the Mac Mini to automatically turn on (easy) and then automatically start the Front Row interface.
Second, is there a way to modify the Front Row menu structure?
All I would like is simply Videos: Movies. I would like ro remove (or hide) Sharing... Trailers... etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

You can write an AppleScript, that you add to your user's login items, that will open Front Row each time you login. You can find the instructions here to write the script:

I don't think there's anyway to change the built-in menu structure, though. It's hard-coded into Front Row. You can add folders and sub-folders to your user's Movies folder. Front Row will follow them down into all your video files.

  • Starting Front Row while the screensaver is on

Why can't I start front row with the remote once the screensaver has started?

I've submitted a bug report to Apple about this, as I imagine surely it was an oversight they can easily correct. Otherwise, it's a pretty big problem. I used to go days/weeks without ever having to use a keyboard or mouse with my HTPC, being able to do all I needed to only with the Apple remote. Now when my screensaver kicks in, I'm essentially locked out of the machine until I go turn on my bluetooth mouse. Not a big deal for a regular computer, but definitely a problem for a HTPC.

Lion doesnt have it anymore.  When Mountain Lion comes out on July 25, it will have front row again!

Front Row is no longer supported. However, there are several applications that can do the same job for you (quite nicely, actually) and that work with ML. Try searching the Mac App Store. Also: there are uncountable threads about this over at the Front Row forum.

  • Front Row Freezes During DVD

Whenever I start a DVD using Front Row, about 1 in every 5 times the screen will remain black and nothing will happen, and I can't even force quit to get out, I have to do a force shut down. This is infuriating when all I want to do is watch a DVD and I have to restart the whole computer. What could be causing this?

I was hoping that might have been some help... before you do anything drastic, try the Front Row forums:

  • Front Row crashes loading DVD

There are other topics similar to this one, but not exactly, so here goes...
More often than not, I can't play a DVD in Front Row. The disk goes in (or I hit "Menu" on the remote) and Front Row loads up. I select the DVD option, it indicates its loading the DVD, then it crashes to the desktop with no error messages.
This happens with both Mac-made DVDs and regular movie DVDs. They all play fine with just the DVD player app.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I've actually been having the same problem.
First of all, my DVD player constantly takes forever to load a DVD and/or spits it out; then more recently, Front Row without fail will crash when a DVD ends. Even worse, lately, it won't even play the DVD after repeated attempts to start it.
It's extremely annoying and I can't figure out what to do.

  • Front Row pauses during DVD play

I've played at least 5 (3 of which were brand new) different DVD's in Front Row that randomly pause during play. After a few seconds the movie continues to play. I took the computer into the store to have the optical drive replaced, but it keeps happening. I tried just using DVD player and the same thing happens. Since the drive has been replaced, now I get "skipping over damaged area" when it pauses (only in DVD player). These are BRAND NEW dvds, there's no way they can be damaged already. Any ideas, suggestions, anything???

That's interesting. Since it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, you might use the Accounts System Preferences to create a brand new user. Log out and log in as the new user. Does the DVD Player application give you the same trouble when logged in as the new user? If not, then a preference or setting your original user has must be interfering. Or some kind of preference file corruption. If the new user does have the same trouble, it might be time to run the Disk Utility and make sure your permissions are repaired and the disk is repaired. If that still doesn't help, it may be time to do an "archive and install" of Mac OS X to get a good copy of the DVD Player application back...

  • Green Screen when insert dvd on macbook pro

Ok so im trying to instal SL on my mac but each time i get the clean disc and try again error... Btw is a brand new cd that works because i installed on anothe macbook. So after trying o make a copy and failing i inserted a dvd to see if it was the cd (didnt know that the cd wasnt bad at that time) or not. So when the dvd started running all i get is a green screen, tried another movie and the samething. Is my disk drive bad? Can buying lense cleaner fix this or is it beyond fixing?

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running.
A little history and circumstance is also helpful.

  • My dvd drive makes an awful noise when inserting dvd, I have a macbook PRo

My dvd drive makes an awful noise when inserting a dvd. Does that means it needs to be replaced?

It's more like a grinding sound. I was trying to convert  the dvd with Mpeg Streamclip when it started , After that I tried with Handbrakes and got the same sound. I gave it  a rest and inserted another dvd and it was fine. Now I don't know what to do, looks like the drive is ok..

  • Front Row and Ripped DVDs

    Hi
Does anyone know how I get ripped DVDs (using Mac the Ripper) to play via Front Row? When I go through the Video menu I can select the Video_TS menu but it says that there are no movies available in that directory.
    Thanks

... HandBrake to rip DVD's onto my MacBook
It does but it messes up the video. That is, no matter what quality setting you set (I tried it all), you end up with something that looks more like some old, worn out VHS tape than the source DVD. It also looks like iTunes can't handle more than 2 audio channels for playback. It makes me wonder about the new Apple TV. Would it also be limited to lousy video and 2-channel audio?

  • What is the Keyboard shortcut to stop autoplay when inserting DVD

I've looked but can't find the keyboard shortcut to stop a cd/dvd from autoplaying when inserted. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Adan
I don't know about a keyboard shortcut, but if it is the default behaviour of the system you want to change when inserting a disc you can change it in System Preferences > CDs & DVDs.

  • Auto-Quit Front Row on exit?

    Hi everyone.
Having just received a new MacBook with Leopard, I've been playing around with the new version of Front Row. First off, it's great, runs smoothly and exactly as I want it to. However, I've noticed that Front Row.app uses an awfully big chunk of RAM. This is understandable for when it's active/running - it's a hefty app. The thing I don't like is that after I've exited Front Row, it's still running (as shown in Activity Monitor), still using a big amount of RAM. Is there a way to change the behavior of it, so that when I exit Front Row with the remote it actually quits the Front Row.app process? It's kinda annoying to go into Activity Monitor to quit it manually. Also, the Front Row app icon, now available in Leopard doesn't show it as actively running, so no help there. Does it eventually quit on its own, and I'm just jumping the gun by going to Activity Monitor?
    Thanks!
    William

Saying it will 'eventually' quit is a little vague. Any idea how long it floats around running in the background for? I have an external drive I use with my MacBook, with aliases that point toward it in my movies folder (so that I can view movies stored on the external drive). The problem is that until Front Row /quits/ I cannot eject the drive. So I have to fire up Activity Monitor and quit Front Row that way. Rather annoying, especially when I just want to eject the drive, close the laptop, and get moving.

  • Auto start of db when it goes down

Is there any way using script to start database when it goes down due to some unexpected reason on windows platform?
    Oracle 10g
    Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
Create your own batch script that does the below things
    1) Make a connection to Oracle to see if database is up.
    2) If not then start the database.
I would be better checking why Oracle database is going down too frequent rather doing auto start.

  • Front Row - Not recognising DVDs

I have installed Front Row on my aluminium Powerbook, and much to my disapointment, it doesn't read DVDs. I understand Front Row isn't ment to be on Powerbooks but I was wondering if there is a way to fix it?
Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated

    Hi Christopher,
Along with installing Front Row did you install the Front Row Update? That should resolve the communication issue.
