Before I delete the 2 entries form the auto start, can I prevent Adobe Acrobat & Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager from starting at system startup??
A only installed Adobe Reader. I don't know why Acrobat is in there.

don't know about 1) but 2) ie easy to fix. when you are saving the script from the script editor uncheck the box "Startup Screen".

How can I delay auto-start of a program at boot?

Hi,
I have set BOINC-manager as auto-start item in system preferences. However, I would like to set a delay to the start of BOINC-manager of e.g. 3 minutes after startup of the computer so that Tech Tool Pro can finish it's checks before BOINC starts.
Is there a way to do that?

You can create an Applescript looking like this:
delay 120
tell application "BOINC-manager" to launch
You need to save the script "As Application", then save it somewhere standardized. Open your System Preferences>Accounts>Startup Items and add the script to the list.

How to turn off iTunes auto-start when iPhone connected?

The option "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" is disabled (grayed out) in iTunes 10. The grayed-out check box is unchecked, yet iTunes starts every time I plug in my iPhone 3G. I would like to be able to plug in my phone without iTunes starting. Is there a way?

Right. Un-checking the preference to prevent auto-sync re-enabled the auto-start option. Then I was able to check and un-check the auto-start option and re-check the prevent auto-sync preference. Now all seems well. Despite appearances (the un-checked option), the internal setting was in the wrong state and twiddling it seems to have set things right.
What a boneheaded user interface, where items on widely separated parts of the UI affect each other invisibly.

Auto start and shutdown 9iR2 on Mac OS X?

Does anybody know how to set up Mac OS X to auto start and auto shutdown 9iR2 on Mac OS X?

Auto starting applications on boot

I'd love to have terminal auto start and position in the bottom left of the screen. What file should I edit to make this happen? And, what how can I specify where the applicaiton should appear?
I looked for a rc.conf file, but could not find. Perhaps there is an easy way of doing this in the GUI.
Which is the best approach?

Run Terminal and set the window size and position you want, then use "Save As..." from the "File" menu to create a settings file. Add this file to the "Login Items" in "Accounts" System Preference.

Auto Start applications

Can anyone tell me how to make applications auto start after a reboot?
I am really fustrated about how I must allways start fussclock manually after a reboot.
Nopt sure if it can be done, but thanks for any help on the subject.

Here's how to do to this and not the least bit frustrating.
Open System Preferences, click on Accounts. When that window opens lick where it says: Login Items Now, under the box on the right click the box on the right. A dialog box will open. Navigate to the Applications folder, select the application you wish to launch on boot. *You may be prompted for your administrator password. Quit System Preferences and reboot. That's all there is to it.

Auto starting iTines on OS X tiiger server

Hi,
I'm running iTunes on my Tiger server under the Admin user. 99.9% of the time I don;t actually listen to music from the admin user, I use either the AppleTV downstairs or the mac mini in the back room.
question- I always have to log on as admin and start iTunes and have it displayed on the monitor before either the AppleTV or mac mini can talk to it. If i minimize iTunes on the server, i get a "cannot connect" message on either of the other two devices.
How can i auto start iTunes on the server when it boots up so that the other devices can talk to it without me having to login and fire it up explicitly?

I'm not too familiar with server and I'm not sure if there's a way to auto login. you could look in system preferences. But I'm fairly sure under system preferences there is a "login items." You can add iTunes there and it will launch when you login.

Want my DVDs to auto start with the main menu when inserted into a player

I used idvd to burn an imovie that I made. I have a main menu theme from idvd on the project but when I insert the dvd into a dvd player or computer, the project automatically starts playing without going to the main menu first. How can I make it so it goes to the main menu first, allowing me the chance to click the button I made on the menu to play the project. THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!!

By default, projects created with iDVD will always go to the menu screen first. If it doesn't that usually means you made a change to the iDVD map.
To check, click on the "Map" button (Three small squares joined by a line at the bottom of the screen).
Take a look at the far left menu square. If there is anything in this square it will play that square first before going to the menu.
Click on that left hand square and tap the delete key to remove the auto-play item.

Opening items automatically when you log in
You can have applications, documents, or server connections open whenever you log in to your computer.
To make items open automatically when you log in:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accounts, and then click Login Items.
Open the Login Items pane of Accounts preferences
Click the Add button, below the list of accounts.
Select an application, document, or server volume and click Add.
Select the Hide checkbox by an item you don’t want to be opened.
To temporarily prevent login items from opening when you log in, hold down the Shift key while clicking the Log In button in the login window. Continue to hold down the Shift key until you see the Dock.
To permanently stop an item from opening automatically, select it in the Login Items list and click the Delete button.

Yosemite and auto start

Does anyone know how to to set up an application to auto start on boot up?
Doesn’t seem to work in Yosemite….you set it up….but when it reboots nothing changes

Go to System Preferences > Users > [your username], tap on Login Items in the right pane. If the app you want to load isn't listed, you can click the "+", navigate to the app and tap "Add". Is this the procedure you are following?

HT4539 Is there any way to auto-start the Apple mail app?

Our company offers a 7/24 service where a user can leave a voice mail in our system and our mail server will send an urgent mail message to the iPhone of the employee on duty so it can be handled in a timely manner. The problem we are having is that if someone turns off their phone and starts it again (or if the user opens the running apps window and shuts down the mail app), the users are not getting those urgent emails.
While I understand having an auto-starting app would be undesirable, since every developer might start activating that feature, does Apple iOS6 have any way to tell the mail app to restart on iPhone boot? We have a few people using other smartphones with a competing O/S that sounds similar to "asteroid" ;-) and the mail appears to be always operational, even if you shut down the app.

And be sure to set up Notifications for mail so the phone will beep, buzz, flash, whatever when a message comes in.
One issue though (discussed elsewhere): the phone will only Notify once. If you didn't hear or see it, there won't be any further warning (unlike, say, Blackberry's flashing LED). You're gonna have to grab the phone and at least bring up the lock screen to see if there are any notifications queued up.

Error in Setting Auto Start for Oracle DB on Sun Solaris 10

I am trying to set my DB to auto start when server reboots. Fllowing is my setting and the error. The issue is that the DB starts but LISTENER is not running...

Bingo.... I got it.
Thanks for your hint about the ./.profile. I was setting env variables in .cshrc file and my default shell for "oracle" user was sh.
Then I changed the default shell for oracle user to csh and viola..... it works.

How to switch off auto start of replication sp's.

hi,
I was checking my sqlserver's master database and found some body has swithched on auto start
of the following sps.
sp_MScleanupmergepublisher
sp_MSrepl_startup
May be some one was exprerimenting with replication.
pls tel me how can i switch them off?
i was hesitating to use this command
"sp_procoption 'spname', 'startup','off'"
, because i thought some on might have configured some thing else also for replication
or there might be some other way to swithch of these replication sp.

You dont want to stop these.
These are automatically started when SQL Server starts provided you have replication configured.

Virtual keyboard auto starts in Windows 8.1 Pro

Even if the toolbar is turned off and the toolbar is locked, and under ease of use the checkbox is unchecked, this pesky icon keeps coming back. Is there a registry fix... users are complaining. thx!

Hi,
Please know that it’s powered by a windows service called Touch keyboard and handwriting
pane. Stopping this service will be in result of disabling the on-screen keyboard.
Let’s try to disable the service related to the touch keyboard:
1. Press Win+R, type “services.msc“, and press Enter to bring up Services window.
2. Scroll down a bit until locate the service called Touch keyboard …
3. Double click it, first to stop it if it’s running, and then change the Startup type to either Manual or Disable to prevent it from auto-starting next time when computer starts.

Auto start LR on camera connect?

Hi
When using Bridge it would auto-start when I connected my camera to my Mac, LR doesn't seem to follow this behaviour. It will open the import dialogue if LR is already running when I connect the camera. Is this normal behaviour?
Secondly, I can't find an option to delete files from the camera after importing them to LR as there is in Bridge, have I missed it or is it not there?

Configure in ImageCapture under Applications and check 'Show import dialog when a memory card is detected' under Import in Preferences.
