Auto-start movies in Keynote -- help!!

I have a short (:21) QT movie in my Keynote project; twice now I've gone into the Apple store for help getting the movie to self-start; both times I have come home, been able to get the movie to then self-start twice; it then reverts to not auto-starting; the movie shows the poster frame for the duration of the transition, then moves on quickly to the next slide. The fix seems to vanish. I'm not using a build, just dragged the movie onto a slide. I'm desperate; does anyone have a suggestion for me?

I have had this before and it could be to do with the poster frame you mention. Best always start clean - drag the movie to a new slide which has no transition. Double click it on the slide and it should run cleanly. Have the Inspector open on the Quicktime pane - if it's running OK you should see it counting down the time to left and right of the controls. Make sure there is no Poster frame set otherwise, when played, it just shows the poster frame and the movie runs behind it. If you want to start the movie running at a particular scene, use the start and stop sliders to determine which bit of the movie to show. Personally, I have always found the Poster frame control confusing, so never use it. If I need a holding image, i use QT to export the required still frame and drag this over the top of the movie and then Build it out as the Movie Builds in.

Testing iLife 6 and made a self starting DVD disk.
using: iMovie 6.0.1, iDVD 6.0.1, QT pro 7.0.4 and OS X.4.6
same DVD disk brand as I used last 50 disks.
Result:
DVD disk plays well in my PBG4 Mac - but not at all in my stand alone Sony
DVD player.
Can't figure this one out.

Try making a disk image and burn at 1X with Toast.
And/or clean your DVD drive.
And/or try another DVD player besides the Sony.
And/or clean the Sony too.

You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #58042 on A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac.
Do you have access to another Mac? You may want to backing up your files via Target Disk Mode (TDM) as well as running some utilities (Knowledge Base Document #58583 on How to use FireWire target disk mode.
You may want to invest in a utility like DiskWarrior from Alsoft. It is great for troubleshooting drive malfunctions.
As said before, you may also want to bring your iBook to your local Apple Store/Reseller.

iPhone do not do automatic update. You have to manually trigger the updates.
If your Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads > Music, Apps, Books are ON then when you purchase any new content/item with any devices/computer iTunes, it will automatically download. Switch it OFF if you do not want that to happen.

Looping part of a QT movie in keynote

Hi, I want to be able to have a movie in keynote that plays the whole movie and once it reaches the end it jumps back to a certin point in the movie (not the begining) and plays that part over and over till i change the slide, so the effect is, for example, a movie shows a title or something coming in, and then loops from the end back to a point after the title comes in to keep a little movement going on the title instead of stopping all together.
any ideas?

I run into similar problems with music. You can't really make it jump back to a certain point. What you can do is copy the movie editing out the beginning portion that you don't want to be replayed. You have to add this to a second slide and have the movie play once automatically go to the next slide and then have the edited movie automatically start and loop. This isn't the sexiest way to make it happen but it will work. You then just click to the next slide when you are ready.

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure. However, when you re-install Itunes, right click and run the install as administrator. For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Animated GIFs don't loop in exported movies from Keynote 3

I am just getting started with Keynote 3.0 and really like what I have seen. I created a series of slides and pasted animated GIFs in various places. They are set to loop on each slide as Keynote presents the slides. The slide show has preset transition and build timings and there is music playing continuously, throughout the show. It works quite well. (However, there is very intermittent choppy audio and video playback when there are builds or transitions occurring. Any thoughts on optimizing this?)
The problems begin when I ask Keynote to export the slideshow to a movie. The main problem that I am struggling with is that the animated GIFs don't loop in the rendered movie, regardless of which compressor I choose. I don't see anything in the documentation. I have also searched several of the discussions on making movies from Keynote 3 but have not specifically seen animated GIFs discussed. What am I missing here?
Also, I want to be able to play this movie on a DVD player at an upcoming function. Any recommendations for an approach that will be best? I have QT 7 Pro and the iLife '06 suite.

My guess is, it's too much of a pain to have to calculate how many times it will actually loop and create the loops and then composite everything. Running it in Keynote just tells the thing to keep playing over and over till you do something that stops it. There's a BIG difference there as one is just being told to play, the other is having to be placed in a movie with an exact number of frames, so there are a bunch of calculations involved.

Thanks for your hint about the ./.profile. I was setting env variables in .cshrc file and my default shell for "oracle" user was sh.
Then I changed the default shell for oracle user to csh and viola..... it works.

Please know that it’s powered by a windows service called Touch keyboard and handwriting
pane. Stopping this service will be in result of disabling the on-screen keyboard.
Let’s try to disable the service related to the touch keyboard:
1. Press Win+R, type “services.msc“, and press Enter to bring up Services window.
2. Scroll down a bit until locate the service called Touch keyboard …
3. Double click it, first to stop it if it’s running, and then change the Startup type to either Manual or Disable to prevent it from auto-starting next time when computer starts.

The start chapter button is a play the whole movie button regardless of how many other markers you have.
Once a DVD starts playing it continues to the end.
Chapters marker simply gives the viewer a place to start playback whether it be the start, middle or near the end.

How can I export a graphic slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote?

I export a title slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote to my desktop and it plays fine with audio. Once I insert or drag the clip into iWeb the resolution is degraded and very choppy. The resolution is 320x200 and I'm exporting from Keynote as a custom size (320x200) Frame rate: 29.97 Key Frames: Automatic Key Reordering is checked Data Rate: Automatic Quality: Multi pass. I need some help.

how large is the video and if you publish - does it still have the same horrible quality?

Exporting a QuickTime movie in Keynote '09

Hello,
I am trying to create a quick time movie from Keynote.
I have a five minute audio file sound track to which I have selected 28 Slides.
When I first exported, I hear the audio, but the video does not advance.
I have considered using "Fixed Timing" but it looks like you are then forced to set uniform slide display duration and uniform transition duration. However, my slides have a variety of display-durations, and transition-durations. (All the advances are automatic, not manual.)
Please help me create a movie that actually reflects the original Keynote show as created, and tweaked.

You need to record your slideshow so you can export with the recorded timing. Go to the Play Menu then Record Slideshow. This will run through your slideshow and record when the transitions take place. Then when you export you can select Recorded Timing.
Since you have a soundtrack, you will want to make sure under the audio section to select Include the slideshow soundtrack, but uncheck Include the slideshow recording.
I should add that there have been many people here that have had problems with the timing getting off a little in the Quicktime file. So if you need the timing to be exact, you might want to export without the audio then add to iMovie where you can work with the audio and video a little more.

Black frame in embedded quicktime movies in Keynote when exporting to quicktime movie

I've included some quicktime movies made in Photoshop in my Keynote presentation. When viewing the Keynote presentation from within keynote, the movie play perfectly. However when I export the presentation to a Quicktime move, the first or last frame of the embedded movie is black creating a flicker effect on play.
The quicktime movies have been embedded as loopable animations using the animation build in function 'Start movie' (after transition with 0 delay).
Is there a setting that will prevent the black frame on export or is this a bug?
