  • How do I prevent programs opening when I start my computer?

I just upgraded to the new OS X 10.7.1 and now when I start my computer, aobut 7 programs startup and I have to exit out of all of them.  How do I prevent programs from opening at startup.

Try two these two things in System Prefs:
    1) In "General", uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps"
    2) In "Users & Groups", click on "Login Items", select the things you don't want to open on startup and click the "-" (minus) at the bottom of the list. That should clear any of those apps from launching at startup. If you change your mind, just click the "+" and add the app back to your list of login items you want to have ready on start up.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I get a program to start up when I turn my computer on?

You know how in the dock, there's a little triangle under a program that's technically running even if you don't have a window open? Dashboard and Finder always have that triangle after start up. How do I get another program, like Safari to "start up" with that triangel all the time even if I don't want to have the browser window open when I turn my computer on?

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, add it to the list of login items for your account, and check the box to hide it. Some applications, such as Mail, ignore the box in Mac OS X 10.4 and are always visible when launched; in this case, an AppleScript can be used to hide them.

  • I have several keynote presentations on my computer but now am getting the message that the program cannot be installed "because of a problem." All this started when I bought microsoft office for  University (2011). What is the problem and how can I fix

I have several keynote presentations on my newish computer but am not unable to open them. I get the message "keynote cannot be installed because of a problem" (unspecified). Does anybody know why this happend? Does it related to using Microsoft "University"  2011? How can I fix it? Thanks!

    Thank you for your reply.
I just tried the 3-step process suggested on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431353
This all started when my mouse/thumb clicker was going crazy. Found an expanded battery. Obviously need a new battery. Unfortunately must wait 6 weeks to get my new battery. Meanwhile, I'm running my computer on AC only, as there appears to be no other option. I was informed that when using AC only (no battery) some high-energy-use programs like Office might not function.
Do you know if there is away to use office even when just using AC and not having the battery in? I'm doubting if I have other OSX problems because everything else works: email, safari, itunes, iphoto, quicktime, etc . . . . ?

    Library/LaunchAgents: com.promethean.activmgr.plist

I do not know what any of these do or how to fix them.  I have run multiple disk permission repairs & disk repairs.  The startup & system extension errors continue to come up.
I even followed the directions to move HP IO & HP Trap Monitor to the trash, run disk permissions repair, put back in folder, then restart - and still am getting error message.

Simple way to make HDD free space is delete files you don't need anymore.
Or get bigger drive and external HDD case, then:
    1) install bigger HDD in external drive case.
    2) connect external drive and format and mount it with Disk Utility.
    3) make clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!(source drive is internal HDD, target drive is external one).
    4) install external bigger drive into your Macbook Pro.
In the cace if your're using Mac Pro:
    1) get bigger HDD and install it in drive bay of Mac Pro.
    2) format and mount it with Disk Utility.
    3) make clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!(source drive is old HDD, target drive is new one).
    4) Select boot drive to new bigger one.

This is probabaly caused by the resume feature. When you log out, uncheck the box that appears.

Try starting in Safe mode which does not load all the software that is used in a regular boot. It also runs a disk check. After booting in safe mode transfer or trash stuff you don't really need so as to free up disk space. Be sure to hold the shift key down continously till a progress bar shows on the screen.

  • How do I make a program start up right when I turn my computer on?

    Hello all!
Just wondering how I can make the program "iPulse" start right up when I turn my awesome computer on everyday!

Add it to the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, or control-click/click and hold its Dock icon and set it to open at login.

  • How do I stop my programs like word,, excel, powerpointmail, ical from starting up when I start my computer?

I already tried going to my login items and nothing was there and I also clicked on them to look at the options and it's not checked there either....It just started doing it randomly.

It's the Resume feature of Lion:
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.

  • My itunes will not open when I click on the icon. An system error appears. "the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Any ideas on how to resolve, I have tried installing

My itunes will not open, it displays an error that MSVCR80.dll is missing. I tried reinstalling itunes but it fails because the service is not able to start.

Same thing happened to me. I ended up completely uninstalling itunes then downloaded it again from http://www.apple.com/itunes/.   If you're using firefox, for some reason itunes will not download and  I  don't know if using googlechrome will also have problems,so just to  be  sure that it will work on your first try, use internet  explorer  when you download itunes. Good LUCK!!
