Auto unzip files under downloads folder

- any downloaded files will go to "downloads folder" on the dock.
- any "zip" type of files will unzip(decompress) on it's own under "downloads folder" right after the download action is completed.
my question:
1. is it safe for the zip file to unzip by itself? will I somehow get virus this way?
(if there are any virus in the zip file).
2. is there any way to turn this auto unzip feature off?
(note that: it only unzips on it's own under "downloads folder" on the dock right after download is completed.)

1. This shouldn't be a problem, but you can never be too safe.
2. If you are downloading your files using Safari, do the following:
Safari > Preferences... > General (Tab) > Open "safe" files after downloading (Uncheck)

In my uderstanding , I should not unzip file under $ORACLE_HOME or $ORACLE_HOME.
I need to do as follows:
    cd /opt/oracle/Disk1
    ./runinstalleris it ok?

You can unzip it to any directory, need not be the one under ORACLE_HOME. But during installation, you need to specify the correct ORACLE_HOME path, the one to be patched.

  • Spotlight inconsistent -  files in Downloads folder and/or SeeAllResults

    Hi
I'm currently assessing Punakea http://www.nudgenudge.eu/home, an app that allows one to tag files and stuff. It uses the comments field so in theory everything is still findable via Spotlight.
When tagging a file with Punakea one to choose to leave the file where it is, or to move it to Punakea's folder.
After much to-ing and fro-ing where I thought I was going mad, I have narrowed it to 6 test cases.
    3 files in Download folder
    - file A I manually added comment @AKK
    - file B I used Punakea to add tag AKK and left file in place
    - file C I used Punakea to add tag AKK and asked Punakea to move file
3 files in Mail Download folder
    - file D I manually added comment @AKK
    - file E I used Punakea to add tag AKK and left file in place
    - file F I used Punakea to add tag AKK and asked Punakea to move file
A Punakea tag looks like this:###begintags###@AKK;###endtags###
(though there are some spaces up the front)
Then I searched in Spotlight for @AKK and it only found files A, D, E, F. Clearly Spotlight was treating the Downloads folder differently. I used the Spotlight preferences to first exclude that folder -- and file A stopped appearing. Then I removed the exclusion and, after some audible disk whirring, file B appeared.
So I thought I had fixed the problem, so tried another to match the file C case, and then noticed that file B had disappeared again.
I realised that I was on OS 10.5.2 so I upgraded to 10.5.4 and repeated the Spotlight preference changes, but got the same results.
For good measure, I removed Punakea's folder from Spotlight, and correclty file F dissappeared.
I then reinstated it, and I finally saw all 6 of the files listed. I clicked on Show all results and saw all 6. Came back to this post to keep typing - and then went back to check again - and now there's only 4 again - B and C have gone.
I must confess that throughout this whole test sometimes I have juts looked at the files in the Spotlight drop down, and other times I have used the 'See all results' - am now starting to consider that this is part of the issue, and so I need to repeat the whole exercise.
Throughout all of this Punakea found its files, B, C, E and F.
I suppose one workaround is to create a new Downloads folder for Firefox and use that instead.
There was a post to the Punakea forum http://www.nudgenudge.eu/support/spotlight-indexing-behavior which makes me realise I'm not the first person to fall down this particular rabbit hole.
    Any comments ?
    Cheers.

how to move downloaded files from download folder to other relevant folder or how to download files in relevant folders other than download folder

Just drag the file from the Download folder to the folder of your choice in Finder. If you are using Safari you can designate a new default download destination in Safari>Preferences>General tab, 'Save Downloads to...'. Other browsers should have a similar option in their preferences.

  • Unknown file in Downloads folder crashes entire system!

I have scoured through google and cannot find a simliar case of this.
When I open my Downloads folder, I can scroll down to about half way before it just freezes and doesn't come back. I've tried Selecting All and just deleting it all, but that again just crashes it! Its obvious to me that theres a seriously corrupt file in there, but I haven't downloaded anything out of the ordinary!
I've made myself a new folder called Downloads and set them all to download to there, but its just frustrating knowing that I can't ever use the proper Downloads folder!
Someone please help! Its really annoying!

    Okay.
Open the Terminal app. It looks like an old computer with black backround and some kind of prompt. I'm feeling stupid, i can't remember if it's in the main Applications folder or the Utilities one.
Either way, once you have it open, it should default to your Home folder represented by '~' at the command line.
Navigate to the Downloads folder - unless you moved it, i think it lives under your Home folder. Use the following command to "Change Directory" to that one:
    cd ~/Downloads/
That should put you right in the folder where your downloads are.
You can list the contents to the screen by using the 'ls' command:
Then, if you so choose, you can delete any or all of them using the 'rm' command:
    example...
    rm myfile.txt
    - This would delete the file 'myfile.txt'
    rm my*.txt
    - This would delete all files that start with 'my' and end with '.txt'
and to delete all of them....
    rm .
    I hope this helps...
take a look here for more info on basic Terminal usage, etc.

  • .part files in download folder but no downloaded file

every time i download a file from a website, say silverlight by microsoft, all i receive is .part file in my downloads folder. I also cannot download the newer versions of adobe pdf due to this also, so it is not a website issue, but a browser issue. what can i do to remedy this? thank you. this has become quite a cumbersome issue. same thing happens when I try to download attachments from my email. thank you

you are going to have to delete, move or archive your data to regain at least 15-20 GBs of empty hard drive space.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
In System folder under Printers folder, delete any printer drivers from manufacturers you aren't using.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
You may have to Purchase an external FireWire or Thunderbolt hard drive to move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc media and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Can I safely move to Trash all downloaded files from Downloads folder, for the purpose of freeing up storage space?

My Downloads folder has reached 30GB. I am not sure why I keep adding files without ever cleaning up what's there. As a matter of fact, what's there can easily be re-downloaded from the web in case of need.
Can I safely trash 100% of the content of my Downloads Folder?

They're your files, so it's up to you whether to delete them or not. I personally don't tend to keep downloads if they are easily re-downloaded. (An exception might be a large download that for some reason may need to be reinstalled.)

  • How to save file from download folder

how and where do I save a file from the download folder?

    Glenn,
The downloads folder (for your user) is located in the folder:
    /User/<your user name>/Downloads
You can get to this folder by (in the Finder) by using the menu item "Go > Downloads":
    or using the key combination <option> + <command> + L
you may use installers and files directly from this folder and may move them to other folders in your user space.  Where they go depends on how you like to organize files.

  • The files in download folder keeps adding _b to the file name

I have a strange problem when downloading files on my Macbook Pro(running Mavericks). The name of the files being downloaded or already downloaded to the Download folder keep growing like this:
Say for a file called My_file_name.zip, the system keeps adding _b to the name, it becomes
    My_file_name_b_b_b_b...._b.zip.
And for big files, frequently I get the error message saying the file could not be downloaded due because there is no enough disk space. However the file is infact downloaded. I just need to highlight the .download and select Show Package Content, and copy the real file out of it. Howerer this is very annoying.
This problems seems only happens when download files to the default Downoad folder. When downloading to other user selected folders, everything works fine, Please help if you know how to fix this issue.
    Thanks

I get the error message saying the file could not be downloaded due because there is no enough disk space.
How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?

  • Unzip files from a folder which is updating regularly using multithreading

    Hi All,
I have acode which unzip all the files from a folder .This code picks up all the zipped files at a time and then unzip it and write them to another folder but now my requirement is changed ,suppose the source folder where all the zipped files are present is refreshed or updated with new zipped files regularly then how can I implement in my code multithreading to get several files by threads and send it for unzipping.

                   while((entry = inStream.getNextEntry()) != null) {
                        outStream=new FileOutputStream("C:\\soft\\test2\\"+entry.toString()); //destination folder for unzipped file

But my question is that if in a source folder we have several files which are in zipped format and the folder is getting updated every min (say) with new zipped files (which are dumped from some outside environment).I need to unzip all the files present in the folder ,if new one comes there then also check for the new zipped file and unzip it.You don't need to keep re-stating that.
I had written a code for unzipping a file from a folder (thinking the folder is not updated everytime).Or that.
Now I am thinking of using threads because if I create suppose 5 threads and every threads poll the source folder and pick up a zip file ,send it for unzipping it and again poll the source folder for any new entries?Or that.
If using the threads here hits performace then what should I use?Err, what you presently have?
Provide me any sample code or link that would be more useful. You've already written it.

  • Files in download folder are appearing as in-progress

I am running Mac OS X 10.8. For the files in my Download folder, they have started to appear as in-progress, even when the file downloads are complete and all programs other than the Finder are not running. Here is an example of how the files appear:
This also occurs regardless of whether the download folder is displayed as a Stack or a Folder. It's a little annoying because you can't then click on the file to open it. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks, Trevor

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Is it only in Dock? If it doesn't appear in the Finder, open Finder, press Option key, select Go > Library, open Preferences, delete com.apple.dock.plist, open Terminal and type:

  • Service file under template folder missing

    Hai,
We have installed ITS 6.2 in  a machine.  The templates folder of AGATE does not have service files like BWSP, PZ transaction.
I think after installation standard service files should be in templates folder. Correct me if i am wrong.  Is there any procedure for the Basis team to publish the all the service after installation. .
Please let me know what is the procedure(or configuration) which basis has to do to publish all service files provided by SAP.
    Thanks & Regards,
    H.K.Hayath Basha.

    Hai,
We have another ITS 6.2 server also in which the templates for the service files are under templates folder for example:
    D:\Program Files\SAP\ITS\Development\Template
Under this templates we have folders with name BWSP, PZ01, PZ02...
We have another new installation of ITS 6.2 patch 26 in another machine, the folder structure is
    D:\Program Files\SAP\ITS\Development\Template
Under this template folder I am not able to see folders like BWSP, PZ01, PZ02.
I am development consultant, in the previous installation I don't know what Basis did to publish the templates for BWSP, PZ01 and PZ02 under the path,
    D:\Program Files\SAP\ITS\Development\Template
In the new installation my Basis team member doesn't know what the earlier team member has done to publish the templates for service files.
Please let me know what is the procedure to publish the service file as templates in ITS server.
    Thanks & Regards,
    H.K.Hayath Basha.
Service files in the templates folder? For sure, you can make this, but
I would recommend to use the correct folder. The structure of the ITS folders
has not been changed, as far as I know.
Another good idea: Read the documentation or use your preferred search method
    for finding files like webgui.srvc

  • Auto scan files from windows folder

I am having trouble updating the iTunes library automatically? e.g. when I delete a file from my folder where all my music is stored the Library in iTunes does not do a refresh and pick up the change?
Please help because this is getting irritating because I have to keep importing the folder into iTunes.

iTunes does not have an auto-refresh or scan feature as you desire.
If you delete a music file on the PC (outside of iTunes), you will be left with a broken song reference within iTunes.
Delete both the reference and file by using iTunes.

  • The files in "Downloads" folder can't be selected

After I installed OS X 10.9 yesterday , the files in the "Downloads" folder can't be selected. I can reach them from the dock, but when I open the folder from Finder, it doesn't work.
Has anyone encountered this problem so far ?

    Hey Dazhi,
Where you able to resolve the issue?
Because here's the thing, when I saw this query and the details, this looks similar to a situation that I had encountered earlier. This Java API for LC is used primarily for "Writing a resource in the repositry and I see that you are already able to achieve that sucessfully.    I reckon without the UpdateProperties method, it won't be updating the content of the resource of the XDP.
Hence, related to the update on the XDP content, there might be a possibility using the updateProperties () method in the Java API, (String resourceUri, properties), because this adds and updates the properties of a resource. This is effectively a resource update, and, as such, this method is subjected to the rules laid out in updateResource(). You will find multiple Resource methods () depending upon the implementation you require.
The Most important of the Pre-conditions include that the properties and its elements must not be null. I am not sure looking at your API Code Excerpt, but it looks like this should include the UpdateProperties () method.
Also, wanted to know whether, while executing the API, are you getting this particular ALC-REP-030-000 exception either on the eclipse console or on the Server, or anything related to ALC-REP?
    Cheers!!

  • Query Count files under Specific folder in Sccm?

    Hello!
I try to create a Query in sccm. There I want to count files under a specific folder. If folder on the client have less than 35 files, show the name of that computer. How should I begin to create that Query? Should I use criteria Software files Count?
    Greetings
    Emil

I think for this task you will find it easier to create a report instead. Queries are based on WQL which has some limitations.
