Auto-update iPod (with Podcasts)

Hello all,
I did use "Search" but couldn't find anything related so kindly point me to the source if this has been answered before. Thanks.
How can I auto-update my iPod with selected Podcasts ?
For example, how can I let iTunes (or a script??) copy the contents of a smart folder (containing the podcasts I am after) to the iPod folder.
All I want is to attach my iPod and have it updated automatically ...
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot for your help,
chris

If you subscribe to the podcasts inside iTunes, then the episodes will automatically load to the iPod. You can either subscribe to them through the store or directly from the podcaster's website by plugging their XML url into an iTunes' "Subscribe to podcast" command in the Advanced menu.

  • Automatically update iPod after podcasts download?

I'd like iTunes to automatically update my iPod after all my podcasts have downloaded. Is this possible, or do I always have to manually update the iPod after downloading podcasts?
Ideally, I'd like to be able to plug in the iPod in the morning, walk away to brush my teeth and shower, then come back and grab the iPod with all my podcasts ready to go.

I agree, it drives me nuts and is an iTunes design flaw IMHO. If there are any podcasts being downloaded the iTunes should hold off doing the iPod syncing until all the podcasts have finished downloading. This way the problem would not occur.

  • Cannot update ipod with either music or photos

Yesterday I received my new ipod. When it was being setup, I choose the options of synching music and photos (photos was defaulted to unchecked). After it got all setup, a lot of photos got put into my ipod.
Since then, whenever I try to update my ipod with either photos or music, the same bad result occurs. 2 error messages:
The ipod "owner's ipod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50), followed by:
The ipod "owner's ipod" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to
I installed itunes a few days ago, so not having the most up-to-date software should be the problem, I assume.
If I don't get a solution soon, I guess I will have to call Apple support, because I am really stumped.

I had also tried to restore, but got a 1418 error.
    BUT I FIXED MY PROBLEM:
    Reinstalled itunes
    Unplugged ipod
    Rebooted pc
    Replugged ipod
In setup screen, for synch photos, picked an empty folder
Now, all the photos in ipod were wiped out. I think maybe a non-photo file was originally sycnhed into the photo folder, causing corruption?

  • Updated ipod with no music-now music gone! Help!

I put my 1 year old 20g iPod into my brand new eMac, and iTunes wouldnt automatically update songs. The "update iPod" was clicked, and ALL THE SONGS went from my ipod. Now I cant find them/recover them, etc. Help!

Bummer. iPods are designed to download from a computer. It asked you if that's what you wanted to do. If you said yes, it downloaded an empty library to your full ipod, erasing everything.
To see if they are really gone, mount your iPod in Disk Mode. Open the Terminal App and type "cd[space]" - then drag the iPod icon from the desktop to the terminal window.
    Type: ls -la
You will get a listing of the iPod directory.
Double click on the directory "iPod_Control" and copy ([command] C).
Type: "cd[space]" and then Paste - [command] P [Note: that way is faster for me than typing "cd iPod_Control"]
    Hit return.
    Type: ls -la
    Type "cd Music"
    Type: ls -la
At this point, you will want to be lookig at a lot of Directories: F00, F01, F02, etc - that would be a good thing. That means your music is on your iPod and you didn't really tell iTunes to overwrite your Music Directory with a new empty Library.
If your Music Directory is empty - sorry - I hope you have your files on a different computer somewhere. If not, then drag out the CDs - they were legal copies, right?

  • IPod shuffle= no pref. to stop auto update/sync with itunes 7

If you have an ipod shuffle and you plug it in to your laptop, with your itunes library located on an external drive, itunes 7 will automatically sync the shuffle with itunes 7 and if the ext. drive is disconnected, subsequently erase all songs on the ipod, because it cannot find the itunes library.
    this stinks.
I see no solution, until apple changes or adds a preference like "manually manage music" which seems to be available for other ipods, but not the shuffle:(
even enable disk use doesn't help:

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • Problems updating iPOD with iTunes.

My library has 4800 songs and iTune starts the update process normally. At some point through the process, the ststus bar will say "Ok to disconnect iPod" and nothing has been transfered. I also noticed that bottom of of the screen indicated the disk space used on the ipod, mine has a "locked" icon next to it. What does this mean?

The switch at the top, flick that so your iPods not on hold. Then read the manual you got with the iPod.

  • Trying to update ipod with different computer

Ok, so I just got my laptop back from Toshiba, and wanted to add some songs to my ipod. (Take in mind that Toshiba wiped my computer before they sent it back, and my ipod has only been used with that laptop), so when I went to update my ipod it deleted all 1241 songs from my ipod and replaced them with the 4 I wanted to add. So I need to know how do you update with other computers. Like my desktop for example, I can;t update my ipod on it now without deleting my entire library of songs......Maybe I should go back to iriver

you need to make certain that iTunes is set to manage songs Manually instead of Automatically

  • Long time to update iPod with new iTunes

Is there a reason why my iPod takes forever to update with the new iTunes? It seems like it takes much longer, and it seems like its not even doing anything. What can I do to speed it up?
    Thanks.

Agreed. ITunes seems to recognize the Ipod as quickly as it did before I upgraded, and to transfer the files about as fast. When this process is complete, after the files have been transferred, in the little space at the top (that had shown progress in transferring files) the message says "Ipod update is complete" and "OK to disconnect" - but it isn't complete, and it isn't OK. At the left of ITunes, where the Ipod can be selected (and disconnected from ITunes), the whirling symbol indicating update in progress can still be seen, and an attempt to disconnect the Ipod from ITunes yields a message saying update still in progress.
An extra five minutes isn't a tragedy; still, I have no idea why transferring the files used to be the end of the update, but no longer is.

  • Updating iPOD with a song without using iTunes

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it was possible to:-
    1) Connect an iPOD to a computer
    2) Automatically add a song to the iPOD from the computer
    3) Disconnect the iPOD once the song has been added and synced.
This system must work with multiple iPODs, hence the need to bypass iTunes.
    Is it possible?
    iPod   Windows XP Pro

    Hi,
The machine the iPods connect to will be owned by different people.
The goal is to add a chosen MP3 to each iPOD as it is docked with the computer and then, once disconnected, the MP3 will be shown on the iPOD.
Thanks for getting back to me,
    John

  • Problem updating iPod with iTunes

I plugged in my iPod base to the computer, then put the iPod into the cradle. When I turned on the computer and opened iTunes, it said it was "updating" without me having to tell it to do so. Now, the iPod is flashing "Do not disconnect", as if it is updating, yet nothing is happening. Music tracks within the iPod are greyed out to show no access??? Help!
    Dell 8400   Windows XP

Not sure if this will help or not. In the upper right hand corner of your iTunes main window you should see your ID name. If you do not see your name there click on the button in it's place, I think it says login, and log into iTunes. (It's just above the playlist and below the browse or update button.)
You might get a message saying your computer is not authorized. Go ahead and authorize it, again if necessary, and voila! You should be in business.
(If you see your name in that button I am at a loss!)
Check too to see if you have the latest version of iTunes. Could be if you downloaded a new version something goofy happened in the install. Check your preferences too to see if something is checked that should not be.
    Hope that helps a smidgen,
    Bill

  • Auto-syncing ipod with itunes: how not to have it synced with whole library

I remember a year ago when I had itunes automatically sync with my ipod, it created a playlist, something along the name of "NAME's iPOD SONGS" or something like that. And then every time i connected my ipod, it would only look into that playlist to see what's been added or removed, and so it would sync only with that folder.
But now, it wants to sync with my whole library, which doesn't fit on my ipod. How do I make it sync with only a playlist instead?
    Thanks

    Connect your iPod to iTunes
When it appears click on the iPod icon in the left hand pane
    Select the Music tab
Near the top of the tab select *Sync Music* & *Selected playlists:*
Check the playlists you want to include, uncheck those you don't
    Click Apply
