Auto update library?

I have a new network hard drive where i have place all of my itunes music files. Is it possible to have itunes "watch" this folder so that any music I add to it will be automatically added to every computer's itunes library, rather than just the one where it was imported?
I think some workarounds by sharing the library file are possible but I don't want to go down this route.
I am also aware of sharing the music computer to computer...
Thanks,
Andy

IF the tracks are already inside the *iTunes Music* folder then it shouldn't duplicate them. If outside and you have *Copy imports to iTunes Music folder* selected then it will create duplicates. It will also rescan every track you import for artwork, even if it already has art. Hence the reason for using a script that compares the library with the folder before asking iTunes to import. Give Doug's scripts a go - they're not that hard to use.

  • Auto Updating Library

When i add music to my Itunes, it wont show up unless i run add folder or file to library. Windows Media Player automatically detects new videos/musics and places it in your default library. Is there an option for this in itunes?

iTunes does not at present have any feature for watching folders and automatically importing tracks you add to a folder. Here are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

    Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Auto update colors (from custom swatch library) in documents..

    Hi all,
I searched the forums for all I could, but found no solution for this one...
    So here goes.
Is there a way to use a 'user defined' swatch library to (auto)update colors in several artworks/files that use that specific swatch library.
I know I could reload and 'merge' all the swatches from the library with the ones used in the file (with the same name).
Select the one you want to keep and then the one you'd like to overwrite, merge!
But here's what I tried and what I think should be possible..
I have twelve files that all use colours from one 'user defined' swatch library ['Human'], so all twelve files have the same 'skin' colour where needed.
Now I need the 'skin' colour (in alle twelve files) to be a shade darker...
My idea was to open the swatch library 'Human' in Illustrator, change the swatch called 'skin' and save.... Presto! All twelve files using this 'skin'colour should now be one shade darker...
But this doesn't seem to work...
    Swatches are set to 'global'..
What am I missing or will this be in the 'features requests' part of these forums next?
    Oh and I'm working in:
    Illustrator CS5, windows 7, 64 bit
    Kind regards,
    Erik

As far as I know color swatches are referenced from the file itself, they are not like a linked image that can update all files using it. So, with swatches you have to apply the change to each file. Probably should be possible to automate this with a script.

  • Music Library Auto Update

I want to transfer songs in my iTunes library from my computer to an external HD. My question is: If I have auto update in iTunes, will my songs on my iPod be erased if there are no files in the library?

Here's how to make the transfer correctly:
If you want to make another drive (direct or portable) on your PC the main music location for iTunes, move all song files there, as well as any future imported music from CDs, here is one method (see the links below):
You will maintain your playlists, ratings, comments, etc. This will only move your music folders location, NOT your iTunes program files. It is my opinion that programs (i.e. – iTunes) work better when installed on your main hard drive. At the very least, it makes it easier to manage all your programs if they are centrally located on one hard drive (the Windows default standard).
See these links for some step-by-step info:
iLounge: Moving your iTunes Library to a New Hard Drive
MacMuse: iTfW: Move iTunes music/Library to new drive
iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder
If you are moving the music to an external hard drive or network drive, after the transfer (and to work correctly), the drive must be running prior to your opening iTunes. If not, iTunes will reset the location of your music folder location to the default location (usually: ‘C:\...My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music’). If this happens, you need to manually change the path back to your external location, or future CD ‘Imports’ will be deposited on your internal HD.
Also make sure that the new drive always loads as the same Drive Letter, otherwise you will lose the references within iTunes.

Wouldn't apple check before releasing new version, I see so many people with same issue..its such a waste of time for everyone now to fix it.
Is there any other way to fix before I try to un-install everything and re-install back?

  • Go from manually update to auto-update without losing songs?

I was trying to delete some podcasts from my ipod, and was following the directions on the help menu which told me to go to preferences and choose manual update, then delete. I tried it, and it didn't work. When I decided to go back to auto update, I received a message that everything on my ipod would be deleted and the update would be just what is on the itunes on that machine. I have more than one computer, and have itunes on each one. There are different songs on each computer. If I go to manually update on this computer, it will erase the songs I've put on from other computers. All this and I still have the unwanted podcasts. Can anyone help me to go back to auto-update without losing songs? If worse comes to worst I guess I'll have to update, lose the songs, and then re-update at my other computers. thanks.

Afraid that's not possible. If you go to auto-update, the iPod gets cleared and replaced with the current contents of the iTunes library.

  • How to auto update a section on all pages.

    Hi,
I have a section on the right hand side of a website I'm developing containing txt and it's controlled by CSS which also appears on all the other pages, so what I want to be able to do is when I add a new bit of text to it on one page it will auto update with the new txt on all the other pages to save me copying and pasting the same bit of txt on all the pages.
Hope that made sense and hope someone can help.
    Thanks

You can use Dreamweaver Templates or use serverside include.   (SSI)
Using the template function within Dreamweaver is a good way to go if it's a small site . .
For larger sites then serverside includes would be more practical and earlier for maintenance purposes.
    Templates:
You create a master template page, you declare which areas will be the same for every page, (non-editable regions)  and then declare an area that will change on every page (the content area) , these are editable regions.
Once you create the template and save it, you are then able to create 'child' pages from this template  - as many as you like  :-)  If you every need to make a change to the menu or the footer or the header, change it in the master template, save it and the changes will flow through to the child pages created from the template.
    Using DW Templates:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/templates.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_templates.html
The other option is to use Server Side Includes (SSI)
A bit more about SSIs here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f 693f21-7b6ca.html
    http://bignosebird.com/ssi.shtml
One major difference between using Templates and SSI?
When you make a change to a template page, you will need to re-upload all the pages to the server that were changed - may become very tedious if it is a very large site.
With using SSI, you make a change to one file and only have to upload the one file and all pages on the server will be update accordingly.
When to use Templates, Library Items & SSIs -

  • Disable Microsoft Auto Updates via ARD/Terminal

    Hi there,
We have rolled out 100 copies of Office 2011 to our 10.6.7 users.
By default they are currently set to automatically check for Updates. I'd like to stop Microsoft Auto Update from running on each machine and then roll out updates (After our own testing) when we see fit using ARD. This will also save us huge amounts of bandwidth.
Does anyone know how the terminal commands to stop Microsoft Auto Update from running automatically?
I have asked over at Microsoft but I dare say they're not going to be too helpful!

As an update to this thread.
MCX would indeed be a way to do this for users, however MCX aka. Managed Preferences is deprecated in Mavericks and you should instead do this via Profile Manager. There is also another method you could use, if you put this preference in the User Template folder then any user account created afterwards will take a copy of the plist file and use it. The following command would create a plist in the User Template folder with this setting
sudo defaults write /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.autoupdate2 HowToCheck Manual
You could also add this to a DeployStudio (or similar) imaging work flow by adding the following to a generic script step
    /usr/bin/defaults write /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.autoupdate2 HowToCheck Manual
By the way, my thanks to varjak for the original solution.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    Bolded appl descriptor versions

Status Update - don't know if this is a bug, design flaw, install problem or my misunderstanding.
I got it to work by first changing my Flex library to 4.5.0 - still didn't work with current
app and update mxml files using "2.6" for their namespace versions. But I did at least
get the popup error number 16815 - indicating an error in the update version namespace.
By leaving my application namespace version at "2.6" and changing the update version to "2.5" ... bingo!
I got my new update installed autiomatically.
Is this how it's supposed to work - or are my runtimes mixed up?
Will this work the same using the Flex 4.5.1 SDK? I'll find out shortly
    Hope this helps others.

  • Auto updates...is there another way??

I have a 40GB photo Ipod and so far I have only put songs on it. The computer I use to put stuff on my ipod is my mom's work computer and she doesn't like her itunes library getting more than about 200 songs in it. I share itunes on that computer with my mom and my brother so I chose manual update in order to avoid getting my brother and mom's songs on my ipod. Now in trying to put on my podcasts and photos I can't just drag and drop the way I have been with my playlists. How can I get photos and podcasts on without using auto update? If i change over at this point will all the songs I deleted from the library dissappear from my ipod?
any enlightnement you can provide is greatly accepted!
    thanks,
    eppy

Problem solved... I LOVE tiger... if anyone else has my issue... just check prefs... lol I'm such a blonde!!

  • Ipod Nano wont auto update anymore ? pls help

I have been using my Nano for a long time. Recently my daughter got the Ipod shuffle and I was trying to figure out how to make a seperate library for her, which i never figured out. Somehow in the course of trying to figure that problem out I managed to mess up my Ipod.
Now when i plug in my ipod it brings it up as a folder, no longer is it auto updating and adding new songs or anything. Please any help is appreciated.
Plus is it possible to have seperate library's for two or more Ipods on one computer ??

always says that it cannot download the latest version of quicktime beacause the original version of quicktime cannot be removed. Quicktime wont let uninstall or remove it in anyway so that I can update to itunes 7.0.
okay. let's try the following procedure with that.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes install go through properly now?

  • Turning AUTO UPDATE OFF

I just bought an iPod shuffle 1gb and i'm having the following problem.
I have a huge mp3 collection divided into different cds. The thing is that everytime i send mp3s from a CD to the iPod and reconnect the pod (withouth having the CD in the CD-ROM tray) it automaticaly updates my iPod and erases the songs that were excluded from the ITunes LIBRARY.
How can I turn this auto-updating option off and manually send music files to my iPod without losing the previously sent ones ?? PLEASE !!

Plug in your iPod, go to edit - Preferences. Press the iPod tab, and select manual update.
