Auto updating of radio station genre tag

I listen to several radio stations streaming via iTunes. I've made a playlist of them for convenience. However, I don't like it that iTunes automatically updates the genre each time I play a station. Some of them have long, annoying genre's listed (eg: Alternative, Eclectic, Pop, Rock, AAA, Mixed) which shows up in my genre list in my library.
Any tricks on how to prevent automatic updating of the genre tag?
Thanks,
Keith

Dose anyone know if the auto installation of JRE
dependent on entry contained within the J2se tag will
be flexible enought so that the JRE is downloaded from
within the intranets web server instead of from SUN.I have not managed yet to even have a successful autodownload from the Sun web site.
More, the URL from the jnlp spec is different from a recent doc on java.sun.com:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=38&thread=71021
From what I read from the jnlp spec, section 6.4, the server uses the extension protocol to serve JREs.
So you must write a cgi script or servlet that decodes the extension protocol to find out what version of the JRE for what operating system and what architecture is requested.
I have not tested this. If you manage to confirm that this mechanism works, please tell here in the forum.
Another idea we are playing with is to put the JRE
installer in a .jar file sign it and place it in a
native directory dependent on the platform its
targeting and have the client check the JRE version.Sounds complicated. I believe you will have to use the installer support API of Web Start to achieve this.
Shortcuts, why on a second run, and not default a
first run, on testing on our end users, they cannot
understand after starting the application from the
browser that they need to back and press the web
button again or start web start. (From an interactive
system design point of view - and the studying of our
end users, it would be a lot less confusing for the
end user).IMHO Web Start needs some additional tweaking, before it can be used for deployment for Win32 boxes where users are no admins. At present one must trick, like providing a Java technology based extension installer.

  • Apple TV 2 shows Playlisted Radio Station Genres under Music.

It's more annoying than anything else, but Apple TV and Apple Remote show Radio Station Genres while browsing Music Genres on my PC library. Naturally, when you select that Genre the either device reports 'No Songs' in the libray.
In order to remember three Internet Radio Stations, I dragged them into a Playlist titled Radio Stations on my PC library. As a result, those 'odd' Genres now show up under Music as described above when using Apple TV to access my library or using Apple Remote on my iPhone to access my library.
I guess the only way to stop seeing those Radio Station Genres is to delete the Radio Station Playlist, but then that sort of defeats the purpose of using that function for when I'm sitting in front of my PC.
Am I missing a simple solution?
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Gino.
I was thinking that would be the case.
It is odd, however, that when I use Apple Remote to control the Apple TV and use 'Computers' to access my PC library rather than swipe 'Control' (or the Apple TV remote itself), the Music Genres show up correctly; as in without displaying the Radio Station Genres!
It's when I control my PC library directly with Apple Remote or access my PC library with Apple TV that the Radio Station Genres appear under Music.
It does seem a bit inconsistent and a not intuitive.
    Oh, well. Thought I'd ask!

  • Update Itunes Radio Station Info

    Hi,
The station I work for (Cable Radio UK) is listed in the iTunes Radio Stations list. After 7 long years, our streaming provider is moving our server to a new IP address.
Can anyone advise on who to contact to have our information updated in the iTunes radio stations list please.
    Many Thanks
    Stuart
    Cable Radio

I may have found a possible solution. I ended up deleting the whole station and recreating it from scratch, which seemed to fix things...for awhile. Eventually it quit working again after about a day. One of the bands on the station is the Counting Crows. I realized it never played a Counting Crows song. So I deleted that band from the station, and it started working again. Apparently for some reason the Counting Crows breaks iTunes Radio. I assume other bands have the same effect.

  • ITune 11.0.1.12 where is the radio station?

went to preference it shows there is a radio station... but i cant find it anywhere like the older iTune had a section under library... not even iTune Help didn't tell me where is it and cant find it online help?

I was having the same problem. It took me awhile to find it.
Click on "music" under "library" (left side).
At the top of the page, click on "radio."  The radio station genre list is back!

  • How do you tag favorite radio stations in new update?

There's a lot of great new stations to listen to in the new Apple TV update, but how do you tag your favorite ones? Been fumbling around with the buttons, and can't figure it out. Thanks.

Just to add to Chenks' advice; when you select the station keep the button depressed for a few seconds.

  • We've updated computers at the radio station...now missing an 'important' FX feature query

    Good Morning fellow users,
We've updated our computers at the 6 radio stations I work for...all 6 production rooms and studios (for those not using VoxPro, myself included:)) to newer, core 'i' machines from the old school Pentium 4s we had which were on their last let (yet ran Audition 3.X) just fine. The newer machines are nice. They're signifcantly quicker chewing through mp3s, conversion betweeen and to different formats...but obviously, it's older softare that isn't able to take advantage of 64Bit or Multiple cores...so other than having a more reliable, speedier version...until we can convince the 'suits' to be that we need to bump up to the latest version, we'll be using said 3.X
That said, one of the main features we've been unable to figure out how to get back to our defaut 'edit' screen is the little volume knob that pops up while a segment of the audio is selected. IE, you've clicked and dragged a portion of the existing audio in the edit screen to 'turn it white'. In the little area above selected audio file, in the 'white/selected' area....we (used to) have a small volume icon that allowed for automatic amplifcation with a simple click and drag of the mouse (either right or left for volume 'up or down'). It looks as though the engineer did re-image each machine with the corporate Audition disc---however, it's showing as Audition 3.0 in the "About Audition" tab under Help. Isn't or wasn't there an updated to at least 3.1 or 3.01?  Just wanted to double check as I run the 'new' Audition on my Macs for my home business--and I'm really enjoying it:)  However...3.X, IMHO is one of, if not THE Best Wave editor...for it's time, in the History of Wave/Simple editing and production on the run. Since the Syntrillium/Cool Edit days, I've used it (since transitioning from SAW in the mid 90's).  So it's been a bit tough to get acquainted with my Mac version....I just don't see the update happening in 'corporate' radio for some time. It took a whole lotta time, effort, and bureaucratic BS just to get the new hardware. We'll go to battle for the software in this year's budget (not to be distributed til next year---likely 3rd or 4th quarter:))....so must make do with the 3.X for now.
Lastly, we're gettin a studder after a quick edit. Say I'm cutting a 30 second spot...4 or 5 seconds of dead handles, maybe a slip in the middle...total of 43 second sound file. I quickly cut the front handle, but left click dragging to the start, hit delete, hit space bar....studder, studder for about 2-3 seconds before it works itself out. Is there a cache setting I'm missing somewhere? If I go back and play from the beginning the file is just fine. No issues. Just that initial playback after edit. It's annoying but not a deal killer. Easily gotten used to.
In radio, as our jobs (and hats we wear) have become more and more "Life in the production room" producing for smaller markets, voice-tracking, commercial and audio produciton/voice over--again, for the smaller markets that these days are running 'jock-less'....Audition has easily become my number 1 tool in the box. Just a couple quirks I'd like to get worked out for the rest of our air/prod staff. I was, in fact, very happy with the older machines---each of our 'Workspaces' set up as we liked. Unfortunately, we ALL know how the engineers work. They get the new machines, pull the old, re-image and THEN send out that email. Ugghhhhh!  After almost 30 years in the buz, I sometimes miss when ALL they dealt with was RF and transmitters:)  We fixed our own 'work-stations' by writing out 3x5" index cards and bulk erasing carts, donuts (reels), and opening fresh, new vinyl from the labels:)
    Thanks for your time!

    Thanks MusicConductor
Have I in some way 'messed' with the RealTek driver by disabling sounds? After reading your reply I actually went and looked at the back panel of the computer. I was blown away...as you're correct, we are using the internal/stock sound card!  That's never been the case, as our engineer has always put a pro card---usually, if memory serves, a PCI/PCI-E Digigram card. However...with this new workstation he put in, he's utilizing the onboard, RealTek software/stock internal solution.  To date, it's worked well...however, Audition crashed last week and we had to do a full install of the program again yesterday. Cut both yesterday and today's shows and the stuttering is back. Sounds in Windows are 'off' and cache/buffer sizes have been increased. I'll continue to play this week...and I still have to update to 3.01 after the fatal error with the software last week.
Thanks again...and if there's something I should not do with the Realtek software, can you be more specific?  I'm not sure I've messed with anything pertinent. We've got both ins and outs (from the sound card) separated into stereo RCA for both in and output. Sound quality seems to be just fine. (No noise/hiss or otherwise unnecessary or unwanted artifacts).  Maybe this is the issue. The onboard sound card. As I mentioned, in past systems we've used Lynx or Digigram pro cards. I'm kind of surprised to see us using the internal/stock card. As you say though, we've gone through some evolution with the isolation and performance of on board sound.  The RealTek driver version is 6.0.1.6392. One other question....in 'shared' mode...should I be running 24bit 48000Hz or 24bit 44100Hz?  Again...this is primarily used for saving down to MP3, transferring to our proprietary "Next Gen" system in generic MP3 flavor...so Next Gen can wrap it in it's own proprietary WAV format. In this case, is there a reason I shouldn't just be running it at 16bit 44100? In the control panel I have it set to 'No sounds' in sound scheme and in the lower "Program Events' box, I've selected '(None)'. Is this as 'deep' as I can get in the sound settings?
Thanks again. This stuttering isn't normal...and with the inherent speed increase (CPU) and RAM update, as well as a speedier drive (7200rpm), I'm not sure the cause. The last and older system (Pentium IV) was also updated to Windows 7---so it did work fine with the current OS albeit on the older spec'ed machine.

  • After update an internet radio station no longer works.

After iTunes 12.1 update an internet radio station no longer works. Prior iTune internet radio station works fine.

I now believe the problem with IE9 was not related to HP, but to a Windows Update replacement to the “Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family” drivers:  Intel Corporation Display software update released in February, 2011 (useless link  http://winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20411791).   IE9 started working OK when I set “Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*” (see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1678709 with reference to “faulting module igdumdx32.dll”), so will now investigate removing that update.
Sorry to have cast aspersions on HP.  MS did this to themselves, as usual.

  • Updated player and now cannot listen to internet radio stations - why ?

Updated to 14.0.0.145 the other day and now cannot listen to internet radio stations that worked fine before updating ( WABC , WMAL , KSFO ) . Programs won't download . WMAL's podcast does work , though . No trouble with Youtube , etc...
    I have Windows 7 and IE 10 .
    Can anybody help ?
    Thanks in advance .

Each updated version of Flash Player includes important security updates.  You really want to be running the latest version of Flash Player.
I'm also able to play these streams with no problem.  Have you rebooted since you upgraded?  It's always a good first step for mysterious problems.
If that doesn't work, I'd Uninstall Flash Player | Windows and then do a fresh install from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer before considering downgrading.  That's an unwise course of action.

  • ITunes Radio Station Updates

    The support site says:
New radio stations are regularly made available through iTunes. To be sure you keep your radio stations current, select Radio in the Source list, and then click the Refresh button in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window. iTunes will automatically update your list with the latest stations.
    So where's the refresh button?

    Good Question...Could not find either

  • Updating radio station

I have a radio station currently listed in Itunes and recently switched radio servers due to technical problems and have tried emailing Itunes Radio a number of times to update it. Is there another way to submit stations to Itunes besides email? I sent many inquiries to [email protected] but still haven't recieved a reply or update after 2 weeks.

Thanks for looking into this. I've trashed QuickTime and Flip4Mac, downloaded and installed fresh versions (basic install for F4M). Audio still doesn't work in Safari, but now it comes in on Firefox (2.0.0.11), which didn't work before. Visual display still doesn't update, but we'll just leave that alone!

  • How do you search radio stations?

In iTunes 10, I had a playlist called "All Radio Stations". I created it by opening a genre under the radio heading (i.e. Adult Contemporary, Alternative Rock, etc.), copying every radio station in that genre, and pasting it into my "All Radio Stations" folder. I did that with every genre, until I had every radio station accounted for in my playlist. Then, I could search for a particular station by name rather than trying to guess which genre it might be listed under. Then, I created a couple smaller playlists with my favorite radio stations.
Then, I updated to iTunes 11 which, surprisingly, created albums (each listed as "unknown album") of my radio station playlists. I don't want these radio station playlists to be treated as albums for 3 reasons: (1) they are not albums; (2) it causes iTunes to hang for up to a minute when I select one under album view; and (3) I don't want it to be included when shuffling all songs or albums.
Is there a better way, perhaps a script, that allows one to search for radio stations by name?
Is there a way to create a playlist of radio stations without iTunes automatically turning it into an album?
Why didn't Apple make it possible to search for radio stations on iTunes by their call letters?

After a little experimentation, I have discovered that creating a playlist of radio stations causes an "unknown album" to be created, and any additional playlists of radio stations that you create are then automatically added to that "unknown album", as if they were songs on that album. Radio station playlists are not albums, and should not be represented as such.
Also, I would still like to be able to search for radio stations on iTunes, whether by call letters, name of the station, or perhaps by words included in the description of the station. Apple lets you search like this is your playlists, albums, songs, podcasts, movies, etc. this way, but not radio stations.

  • Radio station tab dissapered?

I was going into the radio station tabs for my iTunes and I double clicked on the Hardrock/metal tab like you normally would to see the stations and all of a sudden the tab itself dissapered. I restarted itunes, updated to recent version, restarted, everything. And the radio station will not come back on the tabs. All the other stations are there.
This is probably something simple I'm not seeing.
But could someone help shine some light on this please?
    And ty.

the list of genres/categories shown in iTunes is controlled by a 3rd party service and will change. Perhaps the stations that were in the hardrock category stopped broadcasting or no longer meet iTunes requirements for stations to make the lists.

  • Add radio station to internet radio

With my Macbook Pro, I want to listen to local radio stations.
Is it possible to add stations to the existing list in iTunes?

    Hmm.
Both of my iTunes installs have been upgraded to 12 so I can't try it, but all of my other stations in the list were tagged under iTunes 11 in the Song View mode.  I kind of vaguely recall one or two that might have reverted the name to the default, but somehow on a subsequent edit, they "stuck".  See if any of the other tags like Genre remain and try editing the name again, perhaps after a iTunes restart.
FYI, I was able to find the URL with the aid of Google Chrome's "Net Internals" function.  I first tried to detect it with the NPR player loaded, but it didn't reveal any recognizable stream URL.  I then went to the TuneIn Radio website and searched for npr i'll take you there and found the station under Stations heading.
    Steps:
    1.  Open Google Chrome
    2.  Go to http://tunein.com
    3.  Search for the station
    4.  If the station is found under the Stations section, click on the station link to open the TuneIn player, then Pause the player
    5.  Open a second tab and enter Chrome//:net-internals in the address bar
    6.  Click the dropdown and select Events
    7.  Click Play in the TuneIn player
    8.  On the Net Internals tab look for a URL_REQUEST event containing (but not always necessarily) mp3, m3u, aac, pls, stream, etc.
    9.  The filter field just under the dropdown may help filter the results; in this particular case mp3 and npr were helpful filters
