Autocad measurements smaller in illustrator cs4

measurement in autocad is 10mm but in illustrator is 9.994mm

Yes, it is. AI always thinks in points and inches and changes those values. Has been forever this way and you can't really do anything about it. after all, AI is not a CAD program...

  • Autocad .dwg import into Illustrator CS4

Can you import Autocad .dwg files into Illustrator CS4 keeping polyline widths?  Can joined polylines remained joined once imported?  When opening .dwg files in Illustrator I get very inconsistent results.  Sometimes polylines remained joined and keep their widths, other times not.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It depends on what version of CAD and Program it came from, it can come from the same source but could have been created originally from an earlier version of the application.
I believe the newer versions of AutoCAD do not have this problem because the polylines and shapes are created differently.
I may also have something to do with the way the CAD operator prepared and exported the file so there may actually be logic to the results.
However I can suggest you might want to look at  plug in that can help you fix the problem if the lines are not join it is called concatenate.
    http://rj-graffix.com/software/plugins.html I think it costs $10.00
But if the polylines are nibs from an older CAD app it will always lose it weight but since the nibs retain their color yu might be able to write some actions to select and change the weight or a script to fix all the weights.
If this is happening with newer versions of the CAD programs I would suggest trying the old method of export and use a file in the esp format rather that dwg.

  • Does anyone else have trouble opening Autocad dwg files in Illustrator CS4?

When I try to open some .dwg files from Autocad I get the message " Version of this LPF file is not supported" Can anyone help with this? Does the problem lie with the (autocad) sender or with Illustrator? Stumped and needing to get on with work!

It probably dies not support that version, for instance v2010

There is only one solution about the arc upgrade to CS 5 the arc is a smooth curve in CS 5  and not a polyline.
But if you wish send me a private message by clicking on my name and send me on of your files I will open make a screen shot in CS 5 of the file and you can see if you see the correct results, or better yet download the trial version and see for yourself.

  • PDF displays differently from Illustrator CS4 to Acrobat 9.1.x - no idea why

My name is Chris Plessinger. I'm the local IT support for a company that produces promotional products.
Recently, the Art Department came to me with a problem.
They had a graphic that was sent to them by the customer in a PDF file.
The PDF, when opened in Acrobat 9.1, shows an image with another image imposed on the lower left hand corner.
When the PDF is opened in Illustrator CS4, the image is there, but the smaller image that was imposed on the lower left corner isn't there.
In Illustrator, when you press CTRL-Y, you can see the outline of where it would be, but it's clearly not there.
I'm don't know enough about the software to determine why it is showing up in one Adobe product and not displaying in another.
I am uploading the file in question to this post.
I would be very, very appreciative of any feedback on I can get on this issue. I'm not a graphic artist and can't answer the question being posed to me.
    Regards,
    Christopher

    Sweet.
But I have a new question now: how (exactly) did you accomplish this? How did you flatten it?
Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate your taking the time to help.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Rotating pictures and rectangles in illustrator cs4. (WHY DO THEY LOOK WARPED/TRAPAZOID)

Can anyone help me with rotating pictures and square shapes in illustrator cs4.
When i rotate a square/rectangle or picture it seems to distort the shape and picture.  Say I rotate something 30 degrees by using the menu or free drag. the square/rectangle doesn't maintain it's 90 degree angles. You can notice it's kind of warped some.
Someone said hold down shift and I did all that does is lock the rotation to 45 degrees.....
    I'm on a pc.
    Thanks

Which I wonder why that is even in there?! If it will throw off things.
CRTs are glass screens coated with dots of phospor that light up when excited by an electron beam. They don't have physical "borders" for each of the "pixels" they render. So they are much more forgiving about displaying different aspect ratio images. An LCD monitor is made up of discrete cells. Set it to an aspect ratio by which the number of cells is not divisible and you get not only the ugly disproportionate scale, but also a hideous blurring effect.
It never ceases to amaze me the number of users (even mechanical engineers) who tolerate this, as if completely oblivious to it. It's also amazing to me how many people also watch movies on supposedly "high def" TVs which display Sandra Bullock's (and everyone else's) head at 1.5 times its proportional width, and never seem to notice.
I set my monitor to that native resolution and I believe that fixed things. Only thing is all my icons etc are really small.
If the size is a problem, use a setting that is the same aspect ratio as, and half the pixel count of the native resolution. In other words, tell your monitor to use four of its hardware cells to display each pixel, instead of one. But if you choose a setting that effectively tells it to use, say, 1.5 cells for each pixel, sharpnes is...well...going down the tube, because it can't actually do that.
Me, I always set my LCDs to their actual hardware resolution at their native aspect ratio.

  • Illustrator CS4 file save delay

    Hello,
When I save a file out of Illustrator CS4 as an AI, EPS or PDF file it takes about 30 seconds for the Illustrator save options dialogue box to pop up. It does not matter how small or large the file is. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator with no sucsess. This just started happening within the last week with no changes to my system.
    Thank you,
    John Holland

That was it! I changed my default printer back from the new network printer and the delay is gone! Thank you so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    John

  • How do I remove a shadow in Illustrator CS4?

    Hi,
I need to take a shadow off a vector graphic in Illustrator CS4, is there a way of doing this?
    Many thanks,

First try this. Select the small circular art on the left side and delete it. If you cannot use the lasso tool to just select that then use the layers panel to select the art and the delete it.
Once deleted select your art and see if it reads in the Appearance panel as a group and if the groups has the effect applied to it.
if so delete the drop shadow effect.
If not open the layers  and elect the layer the art is one go back the appearance panle to see if it now lists the layer as the top item and see if the effect is applied to the layer if so select it and then delete it.
if none of that works then use the direct select tool and select each elemental path, one at a time and delete the drop shadow effect using the appearance panel.
One of these methods will work. Unless the drop shadow is actually a filter and not an effect. In that event use the direct select tool to select the select the shadow on the canvas and then delete it.

  • How to reduce illustrator CS4 file size

    Hi,
How to reduce illustrator CS4 file size, the file size is alots bigger compare to art work done in indesign?

    Hi
Please follow this video tutorial and you will see a small thing can reduce the file size easily. It was really helpfull for me.
How to Reduce AI Vector file size: An Adobe illustrator Tutorial
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5m3TKrXE3g
My AI file size was not going under 1 MB even by deleting extras so what I did is I opened a raster small image of 100 kb with Adobe Illustrator. then deleted the image and saved the file as AI. Then I Copied the whole vector content of original AI file that was bigger then 1 MB with ctrl+c command and pasted it in the new file created with raster image. and saved it. Wow the new file size is only 137 kb now.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS4 plugin problem after upgrade to OS X Yosemite

I just upgrade my OS X Maverick to Yosemite, and found my adobe illustrator CS4 got error while i open it.
it shown missing plugin of  photoshopimport.aip....
Anyone know how to solve this problem??

Yosemite has several features that I have been looking forward to and will continue to use. I find them extremely useful.
I've hated Adobe since I first bought Pagemaker in the early 90's. If I was a heavy user I would be using their cloud CS anyway but I'm not. I can't justify the cost. Smaller more accessible companies are eager to pick up us cast offs from Adobe. I for one am looking forward to leaving Adobe behind.
FWIW saving an image as a PDF in Photoshop works fine for me.

  • Illustrator CS4 big files

    Hello,
I've encountered issues with illustrator cs4 when creating banners or posters of 1mx2m, especially when exporting to jpg it says not enough memory.
There are a number of problems with blurs even on small file sizes such as A4 documents.
I never had these problems with CS3.
    System specs
    Mac Pro Eight-Core 2.8
    Snow Leopard
    12gig of Ram
    360gb main drive
    1Tb secondary drive
Now I don't think its my system and another thing I've noticed when using activity monitor to see how much of the system is used, it's virtually nothing, very low, 0.8%, etc, thats the cpu, physical memory is hardly none, vm isn't much either with many other apps open, it hardly uses any of my system, so where is Illustrator taking it's power from, as its not using much from my system?
    Thanks

Check effects >> document raster effects. For some large scael graphics(eg: tradeshow) you don't need 300 dpi.

  • Import Template from Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Hi everyone,
I would like to import a template (a letterhead that i made) from Adobe Illustrator CS4 into Pages, which I use for writing documents. So far I had no success in doing so. The formats supported by Illustrator are png, bmp, dwg, dxf, emf, swf, jpg, pct, psd, tif, tga, txt and wmf. Furthermore there are Illustrator formats ai, ait and eps and fxg, pdf, svg and svgz.
I hope theres someone who can help me...
    niels

The advantage of a vector format (such as PDF) over a bitmapped format (such as PNG) is portability. Right now, for example, you might be using your letterhead to print to an inkjet printer. Some time in the future you may choose to have a professionally printed stationary printed using the same graphic and at that point the PNG file may not produce high quality output whereas the PDF would. Also, in many cases the PDF file not only creates higher quality output but also results in smaller file sizes.

  • Export CMG from Illustrator CS4

Is it possible to export a CMG file format from illustrator CS4 or any earlier versions of illustrator.

Describe EXACTLY (step-by-step) what you are doing. Your description is ambiguous.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    aren't pixels  the same?
Depends. If you are talking about "pixels" in reference to Illustrator's page rulers, no. Setting Illustrator's rulers to "pixels" does not set them to pixels. It sets them to Points. For example, if you..:
    1. Import a 100 x 100 px PNG file into Illustrator.
    2. Scale it to 50%.
...then Illustrator's rulers, set to "pixels" will indicate that the PNG "measures" 50 px. Illustrator's rulers are displaying an object measure, not the number of actual pixels contained in a raster object.
If you are talking about exporting an Illustrator file as a PNG, then its number of pixels will depend on the settings you use when you export.
So again; describe fully and precisely what you are doing.

  • How big is too big for Illustrator CS4

I have been working with Illustrator for a little while now, and have been asked to create a piece of artwork 10,000 pixels wide, the height would be about 8,500 high.
My understanding is that they want to use the on a very large sign on the lawn of their sales center.
Could someone tell me what the size limit is for illustrator CS4?
    Thank you,
    Del

    Thanks for all the info.
I have attached a pdf with some of the sign composition.  Everything except the tree object is illustrator vector, using quite a few layers. Missing from the pdf are two lines of text for the name and location of the properties, there is also a vector log that is missing.
The tree is an 8.25mb jpg. I placed it on a separate layer in the illustrator sign doc. I’m making wooded areas (forest) around much of the perimeter using this tree. I also speckle  much of the properties with trees.
I am using hundreds of these trees to do this, many are resized very small for single trees on the property lots and many are stretched and reshaped to make forests, with small trees add to that.
Everything is ok until I get about 2/3s of it done and then I can’t save anymore and the file can’t be opened after that.
I know I’m using a tremendous amount of space with these trees, (gig’s worth now that I think about it) but how small can I make the tree image size and it still look high quality?
There must be a better, easyer way of getting the results I need.
I’m not familiar with Document Raster Effects Settings, but I’ll be using physical size from now on.
    Thanks,
    Del

  • User can't open a PDF created with Illustrator CS4

I'm creating a PDF in Illustrator CS4, and I save it on a server where the user can get it. User is not able to open the file, it says acces denied. When I email that same file to several users, they can open it without a problem. I have checked that there's no restrictions on accessibility on the folder or the file. I wonder if it has to do with windows user permissions...
Our IT guy couldn't find any problem ....
    Any clue?
