AutoCad on Mac

OK, so I installed CrossOver (Mac application for running windows apps without installing windows) for mac on my MBP. I then attempted to install Autocad 2005 but got an error. Here is a screen shot of the steps I took:
#1: Double-clicked the install.exe file from the AutoCad CD which gave me the following screen:
#2: Did not find AutoCad on the list so I clicked "Install unsupported software", which gave me this:
#3: After reading through and following all the instructions on the page, I was left with no choice but to click "continue", which led to this:
#4: Clicked "install" from step 2 on the AutoCad2005 screen. This is the message I got:
I then downloaded and attempted to install the Internet Explorer 7 but got this:
I do not know what else to do.
I need to install AutoCad on my MBP.
The CrossOver website claims to support AutoCad 2005 but does not give advice on how to do this.
If anyone has been successful with installing Windows apps using CrossOver, please give me some advice as to how to do it (note: I absolutely refuse to install MS Windows.)
Macbook Pro ver2   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm sorry to say, what you are trying to do is incorrect.I also use 2005-and more in my Mac, but a Windows OS is essential; for many reasons. The software manufacturer has built the whole engine under such prerequisites and these are needed for it to perform and give results.I'm not a windows "fan" (!!!) but that's how things stand. Also, I should say one must be very cautious when ignoring specifications - especially regarding damaging your Mac, or having a malfunctioning software.Last, Crossover does NOT say AutoCAD operates.Quite the opposite:http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/rank/?order=avg;sort=DESC;cw=e9d e63ddd8740e51812db0ab85fa85e3;curPos=400
In any case, since you (and you only) are responsible for your choices: a) In the same linked page it is mentioned .NET 1.1 is NOT supported. In earlier pages though Internet Explorer editions 5.0, 5.05 and 6.0 are reported to work. Therefore you could surpass the aforementioned messages regarding .NET prerequisite if necessary and see what comes up.b) I don't remember the formation of the installation procedure, but if a custom installation is available you could choose skiping .NET-evenmore try to make a Metric only installation rather than Imperial thus creating a "lighter" application (closer to LT) and see if this works.
Even if installed I'd be very curious if/how it'd perform. Not at all optimistic and certainly not at all encouraging you on this.

    autocad for mac book pro

AutoCAD for MAC works great on the LAPTOP SCREEN ONLY on my Late 2011 MBP with 8GB RAM. It is locked to the Laptop Screen and will not move to the connected 30" Cinema Display.
Caveat: I would much rather use all MacPro's, but sadly Autodesk is a crap company. They buy other great companies, pick apart their great software, give it to marketing, and split it into 3 applications that don't even like eachother. (REVIT, ALIAS, MAYA, INVENTOR, and more)... Most function under Boot Camp, most are at best a hassle under parallels, although they claim in works perfectly. Essentially, until Autodesk has had a new acquisitions product for 2 to 3 generations, it is going cause hair-pulling. When they finally convert it to their "somewhat" unified interface, it will always fail on Service Pack 1, and finally work again on Service Pack 2 - This is a big deal, as they are trying to create a universal "Materials and Products" database, and often, installing a new Autodesk product, or applying a service pack breaks the entire database for all applications, causing a huge headache. They are losing so much market to the competition, they are buying up the little guys, and rapidly releasing no-new-features, break-your-current-installs annual updates. The ONLY bonus - so many engineers are fed up with needing 10 products to conquer 1 problem, that Autodesk is being forced to reduce their prices by about 70% to stay in the running, and more price cuts are on the horizon.

  • Sudden WHIP error on Autocad for mac

    Hello,
I have a Mac Book Pro Version OX 10.9.4 with an 2.9 GHz Intel Core 7 and an Intel HD Graphics 4000. I am on warranty still.
I was using Autocad 13 perfectly until suddenly it collapsed and I started getting this WHIP error message. I did some research and it says it is because the compatibility of the "Graphical Card". But I havent changed the graphical card so I am not sure why is happening suddently.
I restarted my computer already and uninstalled the program and re installed like it recommends in some websites it but no luck. I am desperate.
Another thing happening weirdly lately with my mac is that sometimes the cursor of my mouse gets this lines around it... like horizontal lines that cross the arrow and follow it everywhere.
It may not be the same thing but also searching in the forums seems again a "Graphical Card issue"
And on top of that when I move the computer sometimes... i hear a weird click noise from the inside.
Can all of this be related?
    Thanks so much
    regards,

They could be connected. If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing. Use 2nd link if not near an Apple Store or aren’t in the US. Better to have it checked while your are still under warranty.

  • I'm a pc user, going to enroll in NTU Civil Engineering in SG, I was wondering, can i use an Ipad for my next 4 years? Will the Ipad run AutoCAD? My gf's going for USM pharmacy, can she use an ipad for her course? Both of us would use Office a lot.

Please kindly help me, this might be my first switch to Apple.

No, the iPad is an iOS device, running a lightweight operating system.  It does not run MacOS (which is what you want to run Microsoft Office and AutoCAD) like an iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.
Please see the Autodesk System Requirements of AutoCAD for Mac.
I suggest you visit an Apple Store to get your hands on the products for yourselves. The staff is very knowledgeable and will help you find the right solution for your needs.
Edit: Color me surprised, a mobile version! I would check with the Engineering department and see if using the mobile version is suitable or not as it has a limited tool set. I would lean towards a laptop like the other poster above.

  • Autocad 2015 Crashing on OSX Yosemite

I recently upgraded to Apple's new opperating system (OSX Yosemite) and am experiencing random crashes every 5-10 minutes on Autocad 2015 for Mac. The crashes are not associated with any specific command or action but rather the program spontaneously quits even when I'm not actually working on a drawing.
According to statements by Autodesk Reps, the crashes are unrelated to the actual software but are rather a result of a driver issue with Intel HD 3000 graphics card's on Apple's end. The following is a link to the original thread on Autodesk's forums:
    http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-general/autocad-2015-for-mac-with- os-x-yosemite-crash/m-p/5366839#M13230
My question is if this is in fact the case and whether or not Apple has rectified the issue.
Many users rely on AutoCAD for their professional careers and businesses, thus a fix or at least a statement of reassurance should be made public immediately as right now this is a major inconvenience.
    Thanks

    1. /Library/Preferences/
    2. ~/Library/Preferences/
This file might be already present on your machine if you have any other version of Acrobat installed. You need to rename this file or move it to some other location and then try installing Acrobat 11 again. Please let us know if you are able to install after following these steps.
    It’s only there in /Library/Preferences
I deleted com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist from /Library/Preferences/ with admin privileges
    still the installation fails
    Any other suggestions.
I also tried installing with an Admin account, still fails!

  • Choppy Animations in Mac OS X 10.6.4

Hi, I'm new to these forums and I have just recently encountered a graphics issue. This issue occurred after using AutoCAD for Mac yesterday. I have uninstalled AutoCAD and repaired Disk Permissions. So can anyone help me?
    Thank You,

Hi! Your problem not in Autocad (or any third party soft), choppy animation is very old problem. Try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmoWoeNrkOs and post your result.

  • Win7 does not see my Mac Drive?

after buying a macbook pro for the first time i installed windows7 using bootcamp. i use autodesk inventor, but it seems i do not get this to work properly with parallels, so i am forced to use bootcamp and reboot all the time and switch between autocad for mac and inventor... now i have one big problem and that is that i need to be able to reach and open the autocad files on my macdrive/partition... but windows 7 does not show me the macdrive/partition. in disk management in windows it shows up, but the only thing i can do there is to delete the partition. also the partiotion does not have a drive letter? but again the only tas i can do to this partition is "delete"
can some one tell me how to get this partition to show up under win7 and to use the files there
    thank you

MacDrive or [_*HFS+ for Windows*_|http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows> should take care of that.

  • Is MacBook 2.2 capable of running AutoCad

    Hi-
Long time Mac owner that knows virtually nothing about how these things work. Need to purchase a new machine and will be running autoCad for interior design work. Also quite cheap. Can I pick a refurb. MacBook, upgrade some memory and run Autocad. Have a friend that seems to do this quite well-but everyone at Apple tells me that its just an impossibility. Any suggestions?

I'm running a ArchiCAD on my mac and it works fine, it is similar to AutoCAD in some way. Do you want to install to windows on Mac, or are you trying to run it in OSX? I don't think there is AutoCAD for mac platform.
Just make sure you have 2GB+ RAM.

  • Can macbook air run autocad application smoothly?

I would like to know if macbook air is capable enough to run Autodesk Autocad software smoothly, without any problem or leg?

No reason why it wouldn't.  Of course overall performance would depend on the exact specs of the Macbook.
    http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-for-mac/troubleshooting/caas/sfdca rticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements…
However, pretty much any Macbook will have more than enough resources to run it correctly.

Autodesk just released an update for AutoCAD 2013: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-for-Mac/Autocad-2013-compatibility-with-Ma vericks/m-p/4561479
I do not know if a similar one will be required for AutoCAD LT so be sure to check their website.

  • AutoCad problems

I just bought a new macbook pro i7 quad core w/ 4gb ram ... i installed parallels to run windows and run autocad in it... the problem is that it runs sluggish... even my mac slows down... i was thinking of using boot camp but the thought of having to boot to windows makes me a little angry... do yall have any suggestions of what is the best way to run autocad?... ive also tried autocad for mac and it just *****... crashes all the time copy/paste is horrible and takes forever to copy/pase and sometimes even crashes... please help ... thanx

Not really because you have declined to use the only method I know to run AutoCAD in a reasonably fashion on the Mac which is to boot to Windows.
Using a virtual solution for any application as heavy weight as AutoCAD is bound to be a failure.

  • How to set up a basic file sharing server for my small architectural business?

I have no idea if I have posted in the correct area as this is my first forum post within the apple support community!
I have been using a 21.5" imac running 10.6.8 for the past 5 years to run my small home based architectural design business. I have been using the internal hard drive & backing up the necessary data to a simple usb external hard drive. I am now looking to firstly purchase a new imac 27" retina and purchase new autocad lt 2015 for mac software. I am looking to have another imac (my old mac) running in conjunction with the new mac. I want both macs to be able to access the same data and am slightly unsure what is the best way to achieve this.....As my old mac is currently only running snow leopard and an old version of autocad for mac 2011 it wont run on any more recent OS. Essentially i believe I have 2 main options with this.... (1) I Accept that I have to purchase 2 no. autocad lt 2015 licences @ a cost of £2300. Or option (2), I only run autocad on the new mac as this will be the primary station and the old mac used for primarily for admin & accounts. I have also recently discovered that it is possible to rent autocad licences for £300p/a which may also be another option (3)!
I previously had a problem where my hard drive failed on my mac & lost all data on the internal hard drive, luckily I had been backing up all data regularly to my external hard drive and now loss occurred! Obviously with any new system I want to ensure that my data is safe!
I currently utilise about 250GB of data for business operations but this will obviously grow with time.
In the future I would like to have the option of potentially being able to access the network data remotely via macbook pro whilst abroad although at this stage this really isnt my primary objective. Although I believe I could achieve this through apple remote desktop.
I suppose I should provide some information with regard to the required speed of the system...I regularly open 50-100 photos at the same time totalling around 250-500MB. I would like the system to be able to handle this fairly easily.
I have been trawling through forums and to be honest they are totally confusing me. I have also spent time on the phone to the apple business team and have also discussed my objectives with a member of the apple team in store.
There have been various options advised to me and I really do not know which is the most appropriate route forward.
1 - Using a mac mini as the file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the mac mini to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
2 - Using a time capsule as a file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the TC to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
3 - Using the new mac hard drive and linking the 2 macs via thunderbolt (old mac does not have thunderbolt and so I guess I would need another new mac?!) and then backing up the data to a time capsule.
4 - Using a RAID based server and linking the 2 no. macs.
Sorry to ramble but any advice really would be greatly received!

    Hi sblemings,
    Welcome to the community.
I think with your scenario you should ask yourself, how complicated do you want the setup to be and how much time would you have to be able to resolve an issue should one occur with this setup.
All the options that have been advised would work but they come with complexity and therefore time.
4 - Using a RAID based server and linking the 2 no. macs.
Sorry to ramble but any advice really would be greatly received!
    option 1
Would be a way to achieve what you want, it would centralise your files and you would only need to backup your file server (as long as all the files you wanted backed up were on it). This could be achieved either using the client and sharing various folders or using Server which would give you more options than you would possibly need.
    option 2
This is exactly like option 1 except that you wouldn't have to administer another mac however you may limit any future growth.
    option 3
This option I probably wouldn't pick, you could achieve this with firewire and use a firewire to thunderbolt adapter (saves you having to buy a new iMac)
    option 4
This option would, depending on your RAID level, give you disk redundancy but remember you would still need to back this up, as RAID is NOT a backup solution.
I would also ask is there a pressing need to keep the old iMac in service and complicating things by having a server / NAS? Could you not just transfer all your information over to this and continue with the one backup? I would say that doing it this was would be the simplest way of achieving what you want from what I can take from your question.
As for remotely accessing your data, if you have the right hardware the way to achieve this would be to use a VPN and connect back to your data. However a potentially easier way for you ,would be to use a service like logmein or teamviewer to connect back.
Hope this helps, and by all means any questions please ask.

  • Lion Radeon Driver Bug (New System Configs)

I've read lots of posts about graphics problems with older mac configurations... but I'm curious if any users with NEW models have experienced graphics issues.  I'm running a Mac Book Pro 8,3 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB and have run into problems with Rhino 3d for MAC (5.0 beta) and the newly released AutoCad for MAC.  I heard back from the rhino developers that lion beta testers have to turn off OpenGL completely to be able to run their software stably, whereas testers using older versions of OSX have better performance.  As for AutoCad - I can't quite believe its for sale already - however there may be a mac graphics driver problem here as well... it crashes somewhat often during a long pan session and became unstable enough eventually that it refused to launch at all.
I've been a life long Mac user and supporter and its very exciting to have developers like McNeel and Autodesk start to take notice and support the platform, so I hope that apple works hard to get these kinks out!  ...the era of a fully compatible professional computing environment seems like its ALMOST here.

Same issue with my HD6670. I didn't notice until I installed Steam and it was unusable. Since you have a 7000 series card, try this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1250981
EDIT: I just noticed how old this thread was.
