Autocomplete under 31 is slow

Hello,
Slow autocomplete for addresses
Under Windows 7 Professional (up to date)
The new version of autocomplete takes longer and gives me a longer list containing more addresses I'm not looking for adding more time to find the correct one.
Like this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1011952, except I don't have even 1000 addresses.
It is not extremely slow is is just significantly slower than the old version of autocomplete and gets many more false positives by searching the entire address.
I tried the solution from the above thread, using the latest version (0.6.11.2) and it failed to install "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook could not be installed because it is not compatible with Thunderbird 31.0"
I searched the forums and didn't find any other solutions but could have missed something. Any other options?
As far as I can tell this isn't an error it just the way the new autocomplete works.
Thanks
----->Luke
Example:
Type "ma" under v30 I got
"Margaret"
"Mark"
"Matt"
Type "ma" under v31 I get
"Freeman"
"Maior"
"Margaret"
...

Hi, autocompletion has changed a lot in TB31. Now it doesn't match anymore on equal strings, but it searches if the typed string is contained in any of your email addresses. It doesn't only check the display name and email address, but also some other fields. Also if you type more words all the words are checked separately. Unfortunately there is no way to change this behavior yet.

  • Selecting sidebar actions under Lion very slow

Under Snow Leopard, when I would move between some sidebard items like iPhone, iPad, or the apps list, my system was very quick.  I synch my devices very frequently to keep my business calendar updated all the time so switching is happening all the time.
Under Lion, the store, the library items, in the sidebard all switch very fast.  But selecting the iPhone, the iPad or the list of apps in the library is incredibly slow.  Timed, its 12 to 13 seconds every time they are selected before the change takes place.  I even get the spinning beachball every time.  And, same thing reselecting, its not just the first time.
Is this unusual?  Any suggestions appreciated.  It just seems very unusual that this one app would have some specific things like this suddenly get so very slow.
    Thanks!

Hello, the problem seems to be more specific about my use of mod_auth_kerb with apache. The authentication seems to take quite some time.

  • CS6 Bridge Under Windows 8 Slow Response

When I use CS6 Bridge in Windows 8 (64 bit) it takes about 10 seconds to open a folder.  I select an image from the grid and press the spacebar to see it full size.  It takes another 10 seconds.  If I go to the Menu Bar and click on an item such as Window it takes about 10 seconds to get the drop down list, but if I then slide the cursor over to View and click on it, the menu appears right away and if I then click on Full Screen Preview, the  full size image appears immediately.  When I check the Widows Resource Monitor there is no unusual activity occurring during these 10 second intervals.  It is as if the program is in a wait state pending some event.
When I was running CS6 under Windows 7 (32 bit) everything worked fine.  When I run CS4 Bridge on Windows 8 (64 bit) it also runs fine.  I have purged the cache, and increaed cache size but to no avail.  My system has lots of processing speed, memory and disk space.
Does anyone know what I could do to get CS6 Bridge running correctly in my Windows 8 environment?   Is it possible that there is some kind of incompatibility with
Bridge, Windows 8 and the GPU?

"There really should be no reason that running in Vista compatability mode would change the behavior of the application. Vista and 7 are so similar at the fundamental level that there shouldn't be any advantage.   Really, this is likely pointing to a lack of OS updates being installed, or installed improperly. One person mentioned that a new user account fixed things. I have a feeling that would true of more folks who are willing to try it. I'll run this by my collegues though."
But if it works it is better than the alternative.    curt
Surprisingly the bit about trying it under a different or new user actually works here.  All the aggruvating 5 to 10 second long freezes disappear when used under a fresh account.
Ok, so how can that be parlayed into being able to use Bridge CS6 under my own account?
Does the fact that it works as expected under a new fresh account point to something particular that needs changing or adjustment under my regular account?
The Adobe staff person seems to think it is most likely a problem of  (lack of) updates or incorrectly installed updates, but that would not have any bearing if changing to a new account fixes the problem would it?
PS - How does one run in Vista compat mode?

  • MacBook Pro (Mid2009) under Yosemite very slow

High, since my MacBook Pro (Mid2009) is on Yosemite everything is very slow.
Starting the PC is takes much longer as well when opening programs and emails.
Also while typing it ***** sometimes.
On the internet I read something about a etrecheck. Does this help or shows me what I need to do to get back to the old performance?
    Thanks for Feedback

    For now forget Etrecheck.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • System slows down after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001

my macbook's internet related performance has been significantly slowed down recently. i have windows xp installed on my mac from where i can compare the performance of ie and safari or ie and firefox on mac. the result is ie on windows xp is much faster. the wireless connection is even more reliable and has more signal strenth under windows. these "slow" situations of mac only happens recently, and the only thing that i can think of to mark the change is the installation of AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001. please advise what i can do to bring back the good performance of mac. (i.e.:if i type in www.google.ca in the address bar of safari, the blue bar will just be stuck around "http://" for a long time before the simple page gets loaded while the status bar of safari is showing contacting google.ca)

Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

  • (Slow Network): iSight camera not working in iChat since Leopard upgrade

I have a different type of iChat video issue. My Power Mac G4, 867 MHz, 1 GB DRAM is a supported Mac for the Leopard upgrade. I've successfully installed OS 10.5.
Also my Power Mac meets the iChat Conferencing Requirements for 1-on-1 Video Chat per the OS 10.5 system requirements and the application note here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301050
My iSight camera is connected via Firewire to an Apple Cinema Display, which feeds back to the Power Mac G4.
    1) When I boot from my 10.3.9 Carbon Copy Cloner backup my iSight works in iChat (at least locally to see myself) without any issue. Green light comes on and shows me locally on video and audio sound bars. Before the OS upgrade the iSight worked fine for live video conferences with iChat 2.1.3 under Mac OS 10.3.9
    2) Running OS 10.5 when I go to iChat 4.0's preferences video pane the following message is waiting "This computer does not support video conferencing."
    3) With Leopard iChat 4.0 the Connector Doctor under "capabilities" says "(Slow Network)" for 1-on-1 Video Chat and won't even show video locally or turn on the iSight's green light.

    Fixed!
My Power Mac Quicksilver G4, 867 MHz. problem with (Slow Network) in the iChat Connection Doctor, no video preview or video iChat since upgrading to OS 10.5 Leopard and iChat 4.0 has been solved with the following posted towards the end of the thread below. • Photoshop CS3 slow to open files

I have looked at all the answers i can find so far on this and other forums, but have not yet been able to effect a solution, so please bear with me, and hopefully someone can assist further.
The problem is that opening files is painfully slow - having read about the issue with network printers (which I don't have) I have deleted everything listed under printers and re-installed the only printer that I have (which is locally attached via USB, but I deleted it in case Adobe thought is was a network printer).
I have tried to create a generic printer (as recommended by Mr Joslin to jangel2 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2657130#2657130), but the installation failed and no additional printers were visible in control panel/printers.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell desktop, with plenty of memory etc.
I have a number of external hard drives, and have turned all these on so Photoshop can find them in case it's looking, but this made no difference.
I am at a loss and hope someone can help.
    Many thanks
    Lizzie

Hi All, Apologies for the radio silence and many thanks for your responses.
A techy friend of mine came round and changed loads of settings, restored to a previous point (prior to the windows upgrade) to no avail, and decided that the whole system needed rebuilding. Rather dejected, we searched the internet once more for possible solutions (this time under the heading "slow printing from Photoshop Epson" - although it was not the printing per se that was slow, just the loading of the file).
This is the fix that we found: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=48960.0
The relevant text from the forum (in case the link doesnt work) is:
"I spoke with both Photoshop and Epson support guys and was able to come up with a fix (from Epson).  The fix involved deleting a hidden file in a hidden folder called Program Data on the C:\ drive.  The file had an extension of .AUD and was 40 megabytes in size. It was the only file with the .aud extension. Once I deleted that file, all of my problems went away.  The Epson support guy said that this file has caused problems in the past.  He thinks that the file is generated by the system and just keeps getting larger and larger until everything grinds to a halt.  To access hidden folders in Windows Explorer, click on the Tools tab, click on Folder options,  click on View.  Under the heading "Hidden Folders and files" click on  "Show Hidden Folders and files". You will then be able to access the folder "Program Data".  In the folder called "Program Data" you will find a folder titled "Epson".  In the Epson folder is a folder called "Printer".  In the printer folder is the file (In my case anyway) called "EPAUDF01.AUD.  When I deleted the file (that had swollen to 40 megabytes), the system (or the Epson Printer program... I'm not sure which), generated a new file that was 2 kilobytes in size, after I had restarted my machine.  I keep monitoring the file to see if it changes size, but so far it hasn't."
Having deleted the file *.AUD, Photoshop loaded images as fast as lightning.
Thought this would be of use to you all, and thank you once again.

  • WLC4402 - Slow client Performance

Having replaced 44 Dlink APs with a 4402 and 1252 A/B/N APs within an educational environment, I find myself with a slower wireless network than before (I say slow, impossibly slow to the point of failure)
Where as 1 Dlink AP would happily take 15+ clients and let them all logon together the Cisco system is taking up to 30 minutes to log the users on.
Another symptom is staff who used to have large off-line folders to sync (1Gb+) which admittedly would take hours on the Dlink network now can not sync at all.
The config is pretty basic, actually only wep enabled on vlan1 at the moment.
I currently have all the APs going through 1 vlan / one Gb port on the 4402 and I have read the note suggestions of no more than 25 APs per Gb port but the current client load on the network is minimal (currentl 70)
Can anyone think of anything obvious, or is it really Im pushing the boundaries of only using 1 x Gb port.
I could under it being slow, but worse than a bunch of DWL7000s? I can't believe that.
    Cheers
    Tim

Using the 2nd port would definitely be better.
What are some of the other settings for the APs?
    basic-rate, protocols, etc.
Also, what are the port speeds and settings on the switches that connect to the 1252s?
The switchport should be in access mode and in the same vlan as the management & ap-management interfaces.
Are you letting the WLC control the power and channels automagically or on demand?
Have you performed a site survey post upgrade? if so, what are you seeing in the way of signal, noise, snr and overlap.

  • Can no longer access a website - why?

As of yesterday, I can no longer access the local school district's website.  Says it cannot connect with the website. I've called around and everyone else seems able to connect, so the site is not down. We've got FIOS - have had it for a long, long time - and none of our equipment or situations have changed.  No computer in this house - not our PCs or the Macs - can log onto the site.  Help!

that's slightly different than the original poster's issue.  you're issue has to deal with secure websites.
You may want to follow the instructions here.
If you get the "page cannot be displayed" then I'm afraid you can't access SSL sites.
An example of this picture can be found here!
Here are the steps that you should try to fix your "secure sites problem".
Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption:
In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher Strength.
Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the "Explorer Internet High Encryption Pack" to your computer's hard disk, and then install it.
    Delete Temporary Internet Files
There's also a possibility of some corrupted files in your Temporary Internet Files (TIF) storage. You should clear these
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the General tab
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files, and click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion
Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Security tab
Select Trusted sites, and then click Default Level
Add the secure Web site you are trying to access to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, click Sites, type the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box
Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply
Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) slate and AutoComplete history:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Content tab
Under Certificates, click Clear SSL State
Click OK when you receive the message that the SSL cache was successfully cleared
    Under Personal information, click AutoComplete
Under Clear AutoComplete history, click Clear Forms. Click OK when you are prompted to confirm the operation.
Verify that Internet Explorer is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0
In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Advanced tab
In the Settings box, under the Security header, click to select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes (if they are not already selected), and then click OK
Verify that the Date and Time Settings on Your Computer Are Correct:
Because SSL certificates have an expiration date, if the date on your computer isn't correct, it may prevent you from connecting to secure sites.
To verify that your computer is configured with the correct date and time settings
Click Start > click Control Panel
Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Date and Time
Select the Date & Time tab
Check to make sure that the date and time settings are configured to use the current date and time, and then click OK
Check the file integrity of the IE and Outlook:
Click Start>Run> "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) It might ask for the Windows CD to upload the corrupted files
Click Start>Run> regsvr32 softpub.dll (without quotes) and wait for the OK message; then try again.
Here are some Microsoft Knowledge Base articles dealing with this problem that you may like to look at if you aren't able to solve the problem. Just Google the error number and you should find some additional info on it!

  • Quad for a young designer?

I am a young graphic designer trying to get setup to do freelance work. This will be the first Mac that I will purchase, and want to make sure I do it all right, and get what I will need. (I usually have all the CS2 apps open at the same time) I was wondering whether or not it is better to go Quad or to get the Dual 2.3...and if the 23" display is worth the money. I am working on a Quad at my current job, but have had a lot of problems with it (extreme slowness, fan noise, etc), so I am not sure if it will really be worth it. Also, I have heard that if I get the Quad, at least 4GB of RAM is recommended. Is that true, and should I get it through Apple or someone else like Cruical? If you have any advice, I would really appreciate it, as I am scared to death to fork over this much money all at once.
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well a investment in any equipment has to be taken very carefully.
A Quad will give one a best long term value, it's speed will make you more productive, but it comes at a higher initial price.
Once you get it all set up, it can last for 5-7 years easy or even longer, if you know when to stop upgrading the OS and the applications. Heck a Mac II with Pagemaker and a laser-printer can output stuff good enough for small jobs.
I know a shop that has two Mac SE's still in operation, it works, it's reliable and it's paid for itself 100x over. No need to upgrade.
A important factor when freelancing is now you have to spend time to get the jobs, unless there is enough demand for your services that people will come to you. A portable might have to be factored into the equation, because if your mobile, you might have to take and do the work with you.
The Quad is the best value for the money, the Dual 2.3 is practically a iMac in performance now, but the CS2 apps are not optimized for Mactels yet, they will work under Rosetta, just slow.
A freelancer I know uses a Powerbook to go get the jobs, deal with customers etc and then hooks it to a larger display when at the shop. This way he can use software that times how long he is actually "on the job" for each customer and charge accordingly. If your sitting for 20 minutes in the waiting room, you need to charge for that. Time=money and some customers like to make you feel like a subordinate by having you wait, you just tell them your charging $35 a hour either way. They will shape up fast. (in the meanwhile your doing another job while waiting )
So one has to think carefully exactly what sort of work one will be doing, if it comes to you and lots of high color work, then a Quad with 4-6 GB of RAM for sure. (no scratch disk needed)
If you go to them, then a PowerBook G4 or a MacBook Pro with a large LCD or if color accuracy is important then a CRT (your eyes will suffer though)
Another problem you have to consider is if your going to be using customer files and or giving them yours. If you make a investment in a Quad, software, fonts etc. and business is slow and you can't afford to upgrade software or buy fonts, then a problem occurs because your customers have upgraded and you won't be able to open their files because your machine/software hasn't been updated.
So you get into this "race withe the Jones" and a shorter hardware/software upgrade cycle which can eat into your hard earned profits. So consider who your customers are going to be, the end user or businesses who you exchange files with.
Most customers who need artwork done go to where they get stuff printed, because printing is where all the money is. The artwork can be like $800-$1000 but the printing job can be worth millions of dollars.
If you broker the printing job, you can get a cut of that big money. So learning EVERYTHING about the printing industry, because the artists usually have first crack at the customer, but are so focused on "being creative" they miss the big money. If the customer likes your work, they are more inclined to trust you to get the printing done correctly as well.
Start small, work your way up to more complicated jobs, give different printers a shot to see how they do your work, how fast and for how much.
Ask the customer for the printing job.
If you haven't taken a full graphic design, printing industry and sales course, do so. Even if you have to flip burgers in the meanwhile.
The money is in sales, your creativity makes things work better as you don't have to find a artist to make you shine. Printers are a dime a dozen.

  • Configuring Audio Capture

I am trying to sample the microphone using a recordStream. How do I control the rate, bits, unsigned, etc...
    If I use:
    p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio");
Under Ktools everything slows to a trickle and takes about 5 seconds to record 20 miiliseconds worth of data, then i get aboput 80,000 bytes of data that appears to be 16 bits
    in the Manager class description
    http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/teaching/03/modules/CO/6/25/doc/LOC/MMA/javax/microedition/media/Manager.html
it says I can do things like:
    Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio?bits=8");
When I do this I get a MediaException:
Cannot create a DataSource for: capture://audio?bits=8
How can I control the sample rate, # of bits etc...?
    Thank You

You can try to use "capture://audio?encoding=pcm&rate=8000&bits=8&channels=1" if it can't work, means that your system doesn't support 8bit audio. You should down the program into real phone and try again. If you want to minimize the audio size, you should use "encoding=gsm", but some phone does't support gsm audio capture!

  • Crashes when adding keywords

For some odd reason, Bridge sometimes stops allowing me to select keywords of photos. It highlights the keyword, but won't allow me to place a check in any keyword checkbox. As a work-around, I have to shut down Bridge, and then pick up from where I left off. Can anyone tell me why that happens, and what I gave to do to avoid this annoying action?
    Thanks!

    Hi David,
unfortunately, I cannot help you - I have got the same problem. And a number of other problems with Bridge in addition to that.
Maybe you have encountered other problems, too?
I already went through the Adobe TechNote ID No 331594 which can be found here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331594&sliceId=1
Additionally, I spent some hours searching the Internet for a solution. I read most of the posts in this forum which seemed to fit to my problem and played a lot with different preference settings under Bridge.
So far I have come to the conclusion that Bridge is the problem itself. Apparently, there are a couple of useres out there who have similar problems.
The additional issues I have encountered so far are (list may not be complete ...):
Bridge freeses from time to time on startup. Sometimes Bridge closes down unexpectedly during use.
Any actions under Bridge are slow, slow, slow. If I select one picture and then just click on an other thumbnail. It takes at least 2 seconds until the other thumbnail is selected. Sometimes the "OSX coulored spinning wheel" appears. Soon after startup the ventilator of my MacBook starts running. Processor load rises and fluctuates between 20% and above 100%.
Sometimes selected pictures are opened in Photoshop without me having double clicked on the thumbnail or hit the enter key. The same happens from time to time, if I select more than one picture.
I have updated both PS and Bridge and OSX recently.

  • Running FCP 5.0.4 on Intel MacBook Pro??

I'm working with a partner across the continent on an HDV project. He is working on a G5 with FCP 5.0.4. I'm on Intel machines here.
We are working with identical (media) drives. He sends me his work project. When I run it on my Intel system it looks like the image is step-framming ... it is not giving me a smooth playback.
Is this a function of running FCP 5.0.4 on an Intel system?
Or could it possibly be something else I am missing?
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Ben

Is this a function of running FCP 5.0.4 on an Intel system?
Probably. FCP 5.0.4 isn't Intel native, so you're running it under Rosetta, which slows it down considerably.
You needed the crossgrade to 5.1 to get an Intel native version. However, the crossgrade isn't available anymore, so you'll have to upgrade to FCP 6 to run properly on Intel.
However, if you're running version 6 and your partner is on version 5.x.x, you will be able to read his projects, but he won't be able to read yours. XML 2 can be used to transfer the projects between the different versions of the program.

  • Help installing Windows ME and other programs on my K7N420 Pro

I've got this issue where I've tried to understand why some of my programs don't work when I try various installation routines for my PC. Here's what I have:
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    Memory: 192
    Graphics: GeForce TI 4600
    Sound: Creative Live MP3+
I have the following pieces of software:
    Windows 98/ME/XP
    nForce system drivers
All original drivers for my graphics/sound cards.
At one point I was able to run any game demo on my PC before I had to reformat my PC; every since I've not been able to get any demo to run; of course all of my other games/applications run fine.
I've also had issues installing the nForce drivers. I've installed them right after installing Windows ME and after updating ME, mostly things are OK but there are issues.
If anyone has any advice on what programs to install and when I would be very appreciative. Please email me anytime at: [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Christopher

I guess my first question for wonkanoby is, in which order should I install the drivers after I have Windows ME installed?  My second question is, after those drivers are installed, what next, install the sound card driver? Oh, and when should I install the updates for ME?
I also agree that I should be better off with Windows XP but every time I've installed it, I've had horrible system performance. For example, every game I have installed that works great under ME is slowed under XP.
I currently have "Age of Wonders II" and "No one lives forever 2" installed on my PC and only AOWII is currently -- NOLF2 freezes on the first load screen. The demos that I'm trying to get working are "Unreal Tournament 2003", James Bond Nightfire", and "Asheron's Call."
I also got the latest Live Driver 2 from MSI and used it to get the latest nForce drivers.
The reason I had to initially reformat my PC was due to a virus that got to my boot record.
    thx,
    Christopher
