Autocompletion of email addresses

I've found that when I'm typing email addresses into a pages document, it helpfully autoformats them as clickable "mail to" links (so you can click them and open a mail message to that person). However, it is also doing something very weird when autoformatting them, which is that it is changing the way the addresses appear on my screen - reordering the letters and punctuation in the address itself.
I just typed a list of email addresses to make a contacts page for my notice board, and all the ".ac.uk" endings on the addresses look on screen in pages as if they are ".ac.ku" (i.e. The last two letters are reversed when pages autoformats the typed in address). I've also typed in a name "s.l.mclean" which autoformatted to "s.lm.clean" (i.e. The period between the l and m jumped across by one letter when the email address autoformatted).
The thing is, this means my document looks like it has terrible typos in it and like the addresses are incorrect - which means it's not much good for sharing with colleagues, nor for putting up a print out on my notice board. BUT the addresses themselves (as links) are fine - when I click the typed in addresses, the mail window opens with perfect ".ac.uk" email addresses, and "s.l.mclean" looks fine in the Mail compose window, even though it looked wrong in Pages itself when I clicked the link. So it's not the links, and it's not my typing. It's something that Pages 09 is doing when it autoformats the email addresses as email links.
It's a bit bizarre, and I assume it's a bug. I've reported it to Apple via the feedback from within the Pages application, but I wondered if anyone else has had the problem, or has any ideas to fix it so the document looks nice... Every time I edit the addresses, they just autoformat right back to the same weird reorganised text!

Hi Josie,
Odd. I don't know if this will answer your question, but have a look at Pages Preferences > Auto-Correction > Automatically use spell checker suggestions
Also System Preferences > Language and Text* > Text
*(or International depending on your OS X version)
Regards,
Ian.

  • Autocomplete for email addresses not working

I upgraded two laptops to Mountain Lion today (2010 Macbook Air, 2008 Macbook Pro).  Everything seems to work ok so far, except for the fact that Mail no longer autocompletes my email addresses.  Also, when I send an email, the recipient doesn't show up in the "previous recipients" or the "address panel" windows, and it will not autocomplete even though I just sent an email to that address.
From what I can tell, Mail is not accessing the Contacts app, and the old database of email recipients was deleted during the upgrade.  This is occurring on two separate machines, updated independently.  So right now, Mail is largely useless--I have to either type in an entire email address, or open Contact and click on an email address.  NO WAY!  I installed Sparrow, and it works flawlessly.  Looks like another bug...
Can someone please advise how to force Mail to access my address book (or import my addresses).  Mail is activated for iCloud, as is the address book.
    Any help much appreciated!
    Thanks, Kevin

I've been having the exact same problem but I've figured it out.
On my previous OSX version (Snow Leopard) I synced my Calendars and Contacts between my work and home computer via Dropbox. What I did was create a symbolic link for these two folders:
    :: <user>/Library/Calendars and
    :: <user>/Library/Application Suppport/Address Book
...linking to folders inside <user>/Dropbox where the data was stored and synced between the two computers.
I have now replaced the symbolic links with the actual data/folders and everything is back to normal with Mail accessing my Contacts.
If you are having a similar issue, make sure to close Mail and Contacts applications and COPY the data back, so that you have a backup of your data if something doesn't work. I turned off iCloud when I did this but not sure if that's neccessary.
    Hope it helps.

  • Safari autocompletes wrong email address for me

When I go to a website that Safari feels like recognizing, sometimes it offers to fill in my contact info for me.  But I have learned to decline this, because for some reason it wants to use my evernote email address as listed in my contact card for myself instead of the "home" email address also stored there.  I feel like asking, how do I tell Safari to use the email address I want instead of picking apparently the worst possible choice to auto-fill for me?

It is not there as an autofill.  The prompt to use this address only comes up when I start typing my email address into some web form.  Then this little prompt pops up attached to the field I'm filling in that says something like "do you want to fill this in with your contact info?"  Again, I'm having trouble finding a site that asks for it.  I'll hack one up if I get time and post what exactly it looks like and says, I think that will be helpful here.

  • Autocomplete email address in Yahoo doesn't work in Safari

Earlier this year there was some discussion on this topic, but it is not resolved. I am new to the Mac and find I'm having the same problem. Yes, autocomplete is turned in Safari pref., but that shouldn't matter. The autocomplete feature of Yahoo comes from their website, not from information stored on our personal computers.
Anyone know if there is a way to get Yahoo mail to autocomplete email addresses in the To: box in Safari as it does in browsers on the PC?
    Thanks,
    Ralph

Hello, Ralph. Welcome to Apple Discussion~!!
Yahoo mail & Safari are not very compatible, I use earthlink web
mail it also does not autocomplete. Cater to the ms world.
Sorry not the answer you are looking for, perhaps someone has some
workaround but none I have seen so far.At this point I do not think so.
I wonder however if you could get your web mail to come into Apple
mail you could check in Mail & Address book forum.
    Regards,
    Eme

  • Email address autocomplete in Send & Track

Earlier today we launched our first version of "email address autocomplete" for Send & Track.
If you're using the web interface for Document Cloud, http://cloud.acrobat.com/send, and you choose to send a "Personalized Invitation" and enter email addresses, you'll see a feature you're probably used to using in other software: email address autocompletion. After you type a few characters, we will show you a short list of potentially relevant email addresses that you've previously used within Adobe Send & Track. Simply choose the one you want (either by mouse or using your arrow keys and tab or return), or continue typing if it's an address you haven't used before.
We anticipate this feature being included in releases of Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC later this year. Meanwhile, if you're using our desktop tools, you can continue to use our integration with your local machine's Address Book.
Feedback, or questions, are welcome as always.

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • Autocomplete email addresses picks up wrong email account

I have an ipad for home (with only my home email account) and an iPhone for work (with only my work email account).  When I type an email address on the ipad, my work contacts come up in the autocomplete.  It will only be a matter of time before one of my family email my work in error, which could be embarrassing!
What can I do to stop this happening?  Is it something to do with iCloud?
I can't just delete work contacts on the ipad every time they come up, partly because there are too many, but also I will then be reusing them at work, and will they then come back again to the ipad?

Oh yes we always have options.
Before we go any further, does this behavior only occur with specific names / email addresses?  If so you may have more than one addressbook card in addresssbook with a similar name / email address and one of them may have a misspelling.  Try typing in the misspelling that keeps showing up in the iCal Invitee field into the Addressbook search field to see if maybe there is a card with a misspelling (in which case correct it or delete the card in question if it is a duplicate).
    If that isn't it then:
Reset sync services: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627 and restart the computer.
    If that isn't it then:
    1.) Go into Addressbook
2.) If you have groups created click on each group 1 at a time and go to File > Export > Group vCard for each group saving them to a logical location.  Do this for the "All Contacts" group as well.
3.) Make an addition backup of Addressbook by going to File > Export > Addressbook Archive
4.) Click on "All contacts" and then click on one of the contacts listed to the right (doesn't matter which one)
5.) Go to Edit > Select All to highlight all contacts
6.) Go to Edit > Delete Cards (which deletes all your addressbook entries which is why we made a backup)
    7.) Restart the computer
8.) Launch Addressbook and ensure it is still blank and Add a new card with an email address and name
9.) Go to iCal and add an event with an invitee and try typing in the name / email address as you would do normally and see if it correctly recognizes the 1 addressbook card you have in addressbook.
--- If this works then we know that you have an issue with 1 or more of the addressbook cards that were formerly in the Addressbook program.  Try re-importing the vCards created in step #2 and see if the issue re-occurs (hopefully it won't as sometimes exporting / importing fixes odd issues with databases).

  • Autocomplete Email Addresses Gone

I updated the password and smtp settings for Mail account and now the address book and autocomplete email addresses are missing. How do I get them back? Where does the previous recipients list live?

All of mine are gone. Does anyone know how to correct this??

  • Autocomplete adds "insurgency" to email address

I may be a bit paranoid, but I'm concerned my phone/email address has been hacked. I have several emails with the same name, but different service (for example [email protected], [email protected] etc). Lately, I've oticed that when filling in my email address on forms or sending it in a message, my iphone want to autocomplete it by adding the word "insurgency" insurgency at the end. In other words, I'll be 5 or 6 letters into typing my email address and it will want to autocomplete it to (for example) "imarcusinsurgency". I'm completely baffled by this, I don't ever remember typing that in. So I'm wondering:
    1. Has anyone heard of this before?
    2. Should I be worried about this?
    3. Is there a way to delete this "autocomplete" in particular?
    Thanks!

Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>AutoCorrection>Off. You can turn off auto caps as well if you like. If you turn off auto correct you lose spell check as well. You can't keep spell check turned on without turning on auto correct.

  • Gmail email address autocomplete not working!

    Hi,
After installing the last Java update for the Mac OS X I realized the the autocomplete e-mail address in the Gmail was not working anymore!! Is this problem a known issue or is just affecting me??? Sorry if I could not make my self clear or if this question was already answered in another post. If someone knows the solution for this I would be very thankful.
    Cheers

    Hello and welcome...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Make sure *User names and passwords* is selected. Now click the Edit button next to: *Other forms* then delete all Gmail and Google url's.
Now select the Security tab. Click *Show Cookies* Delete all Google / Gmail related cookies.
Quit Safari. (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.

  • I have version 3.6.16 and when I login to my hotmail account, and type the first letter of the email address, a drop down box appears with my hotmail address and I can choose it from that box with a click. How do I get version 4 to do this? Thanks.

How do I get version 4 to do this?

The new but not-ready-for-prime-time autocomplete method searches for matches that contain the entered text, not just ones that begin with the string. Your options are:
    1) type in longer strings that narrow the search
    2) use an add-on to search just the beginnings:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037469
    3) install an older version of TB:

  • How do I prevent email addresses when part of the addreses is typed in Yahoo or Hotmail - several people use the same computer and a whole drop down list of previously uised adresses come up each time sonmeone logs on

When typing in my email address to log into Yahoo Mail or Hotmail the email addresses of other users who have logged in using this machine appear too. How do you stop this from happening?

  • How can I get Apple Mail to show recipient's full name AND email address

    In Apple Mail v 6.3 (1503):
I am sending an email to a recipient listed in my Contacts. The recipient has 3 or more email addresses listed in Contacts. I want to send the email to some or all of the addresses.
As I start typing the guys name, the autocomplete feature gives me choices - ie.:  In the TO: field and I select the first one, then the 2nd and so on.
However, what gets displayed in the TO: Box is this:
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton
So, it is not displaying the address between the <       >.
so how can I get all three addresses to display like the first one which shows both the name of the guy (as listed in contacts "FIRST" "LAST") and then the actual email address).
For example I'd like it to show:
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]
    Bill Clinton <[email protected]>
Any direction in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not at my Mac to check, but try turning off Smart Addresses in the Viewing tab of Mail's Preferences.

  • How to clear "recent" contacts listed automatically as you type email addresses in

Hi everyone. When I go to type the address of an email I get as far as the first letter and a list of "recent" email addresses pops up, which is handy except for some reason the first one is a combination of two emails address, one I know and one I only vaguely recognise as possibly being a former student who might have been on a mailing list of mine at one time. This combo of emails addresses doesn't appear in my contact list or address book on its own, but since it shows up as I start typing my husband's email, I'm sure there has been a time or two where I've just selected it to autocomplete the address field, and ended up sending something probably embarrassingly personal to not just my husband but this other person as well. How do I go in and clear out my icloud's memory of past-sent emails?  Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    In Mail: Window Menu>Previous Recipients
    Delete any or all.

  • Why can I not drag-and-drop email addresses into Address Book?

I've used today the email client and the email address autocompletion feature figured out nicely the email addresses of the recipients I wanted to send the email to. So far so good. However, when I've selected all addresses in the To line, I would have liked to be able to drag-and-drop them into the Address Book application, automatically have new entries created there and why not a new group too?

No, that is not possible. However, [Mail Scripts|http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html] has a script to add every address to the address book, allowing you to pick which ones go to which group and to add a new group, if you want.
