Autocompletion on console slow
G'day,
for the last few days my beloved autocompletion on the console - whether it is on xterm, konsole or yakuake, or even a vterm accessed via ALT+CTRL+F2 - freezes up for several seconds whenever there is more than one possible hit.
So, if I want to edit a file named test.txt while there is also a test.html in the same directory using yakuake I type
nano test.
and hit TAB twice the terminal freezed up for ten, maybe twenty seconds before I get a result. The rest of my machine is usable just fine in the meantime...
ANY idea what that could be?
In all frankness I have no clue. I never changed anything about it, so whatever comes as a standard with Arch?
That being said, how do I start a debug shell that way?

3 error messages in console slow down mavericks
mavericks is a lot slower than snow leopard, sometimes programs even stop working for approx. 30 seconds.
below the console messages
and below that the printout from etreCheck.
1) systemstatsd complains once per minute "assertion failed" - I don't have the faintest idea, which module failed
2) Excel2008 and office 2008 (database daemon) let me know, that something is deprecated and will be removed soon
Excel latest update was done 2 days ago . Can I stop these messages or remove the daemon?
Any help or idea is apppreciated very much
PS: is there a manual on how to interpret system messages? I could not find anything.

Console Slowness and Not Displaying Content When Maximized
System Center Service Manager 2012 R2
When working in a maximized SCSM 2012 R2 console the content for an incident or service offering or other forms in the product don't display their content correctly. Also, when interacting and typing within the forms it becomes very slow. I've seen
this behavior across multiple SCSM 2012 and later implementations. The only fix seems to be minimizing the console and working through a minimized window.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and has anyone submitted the bug to Microsoft so it gets resolved? This is a known issue and Microsoft is aware of it. It's the implementation of the console that has a problem with a maximized window. Nobody has stated they are working to correct it, so I assume it would require a massive overhaul of the console.
I am hoping for a web-based console, I think that will solve a lot of the current problems we have with SCSM. There are 3rd parties that make some good ones if you have money to spend.
The scsm team has confirmed they are working on this and other fixes to be released in next update rollup which should arrive sometime in or around April. -
SCCM 2012 Console - slow performance when browsing in Applications Deployments
Hi There,
we are experiencing a slow Console (SCCM 2012 R2 CU1, one Primary) if we go to Software Library > Applications and than clicking on Deployments. It takes up to 2 Minutes if we get results of the Deployments which depend to the Application. It Doesn´t
matter if there are 0 or 20 Deployments.
It only occurs if the SCCM Admins do not have full Admin rights in SCCM.
The reason must be the Security Scopes, because all Admins have full rights to be a "Application Deployment Manager".
Can somebody help me to get rid of this Problem?
Regards

Weblogic 9.x admin console slowest and worst application ever
Does anyone else think the Weblogic 9.x admin console really sucks? Is there any place I can make improvement requests?
Things in Weblogic 8.x that took just a couple of minutes to accomplish routinely take a half-hour or more in the Weblogic 9.x console. I have recently discovered WLST and I have created a couple of scripts to script things I do quite often but quite honestly I don't have time to script everything I need to do in the console, especially since BEA should provide a usable admin console IMHO.
My specific complaints (not all inclusive as there is no way I could think of every annoyance I run into on a day to day basis):
1) It is crazy slow. We use the ssh node manager so every time it loads a page I guess it polls every managed instance via ssh and page loads take a couple of minutes. For example, getting the next page of Deployments takes around 3 minutes.
2) The deployment pagination is very annoying. Why is this limited to 10 deployments per page? This should just show me a list of all my deployments in alphabetical order. The pagination offers nothing. At the very least pagination length should be configurable. The pagination combined with problem 1 takes me many minutes to get to the app I need to do something with.
3) If BEA insists on pagination on the deployments list at least give me a link so I can immediately jump to a specific page! The link should have the letter range of the deployments on that page (like A-C, D-V, W-Z, or something like that).
4) After I stop an app it jumps back to page 1 instead of showing the page of deployments containing the app I just stopped. OMG!!! GRRR! Now I have to hit Next several times to get back to my app with 3 minutes between each page load. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!
5) Why is there not a Redeploy button like there was in Weblogic 8.x? If I need to restart an application I have to go through the update procedure and not upload a new version. This is annoying, just give me a damn redeploy button.
6) After clicking the Lock button I have to wait 2-3 minutes for it to give me the Lock. Why does it take this long?
7) The whole locking mechanism is stupid. Why do I have to obtain a lock to make any changes? I never had a problem in Weblogic 8.x with walking on someone else. I can see how this could possibly be beneficial to some organizations (I suppose) so at the very least make obtaining the lock optional via configuration.
I am sure there are many more but I can't think of all of them now. I will start writing it down every time the console annoys the hell out of me. IMHO the Weblogic 9.x console broke the perfectly good Weblogic 8.x console.
It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't so MADDENINGLY SLOW.We have upgraded our WebLogic from 8.1 to 9.2 along with our PeopleSoft 9.0 upgrade and boy-oh-boy, has the WebLogicAdmin console slowed down.
It used to open in about 10 seconds.
Now it opens in roughly 1 minute and 30 seconds.
The heap size settings are the same as they were in the WebLogic 8.1
Even restarting the WebLogicAdmin and associated PeopleSoft PIA's is the worst I have ever seen.

Logged users x Weblogic console
I'm using Weblogic 6.0 and I want to know what users are logged in. With WL
4.5.1 we had the Weblogic Console that could provide that information but I
don't know how to do that with WLS 6.0.
The console web application shows all users but not the logged ones. Could
anybody help me on that?
Thanks a lot

Firefox incorrectly finds part of a word when searching for a term
Dear Sir/Madam
I was just searching for articles about "sage" (the herb), and at the site
http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sweat.html
there's the following section:
"08/30/2009: Ckn1234 from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "I had the ETS surgery too and have started to sweat profusely on my chest and back. Do you still take the same do***sage*** 3X a day to combat the sweating? Have the results maintained their effectiveness?"
I pressed Ctrl + F to bring up the Firefox Find box and I typed in: sage
One of the hits was the the word "dosage", which I marked above as: do***sage***
Even though the site is indeed about the herb sage, this particular hit isn't relevant, so obviously there's a problem here with the Firefox Find feature.
Could you please modify the Firefox Find box so that there's a tick box that reads "Find whole words only", and another that reads "Find partial words only".
On an unrelated point, it would also be very useful if you could highlight different search terms in different colours. For instance if I search for "lodge" and "complaint" (i.e. the collocation "to lodge a complaint"), it would be very useful if you could highlight "lodge" and "complaint" in different colours.
Thank you

You can install the add-on 'YesScript' and then use it to tell Javascript not to let Google perform AutoComplete. From what I've read, Google is forcing AutoComplete down our throats whether we want that feature or not. Their logic is that people type too slowly, so this will speed things up. Trouble is, I type faster than AutoComplete can even begin to keep up with, so I was forever having to wait for AutoComplete to catch up with me, in order to see if I had misspelled something before pressing Enter. All AutoComplete did was slow me down until it was finally disabled.
Funny thing is, Google embeds a gear-like looking icon in the upper-right corner of its search screens, which enables us to change our search settings. You can turn GoogleInstant off there, but not AutoComplete. Sure wish they'd have allowed us to disable AutoComplete in that manner. This would have saved disgruntled Google Heads an awful lot of trouble, but how much trouble could it possibly have been for Google to add that little bit of highly desirable functionality in the first place?
Seems to me, some of the software engineers at Google might be the same people who are controlling the way traffic lights work here in Norman, OK: It's as if the signals are set for 80 year-old ladies making their way back from church, which works pretty well about 11:00 o'clock on a Sunday morning, but the rest of the time all it does is frustrate the heck out of most of the rest of us. -

Painfully slow access to admin console (how can I fix it?)
Hi,
I'm using using Sun Java System Web Server Version 7.0U4 B12/02/2008 02:17 running on CentOS (Redhat EL) release 4.4.
The problem is that using the Admin Console (on port 8989) is painfully slow. It takes minutes for each page to load, but they do usually load.
Any ideas on how to fix that?
There are some other things going on that might be related and helpful to know:
I get certificate errors when I access the Admin Console (e..g, IE complains about a mismatched address). I've tried following the directions to install the certificate in IE7 and FF3, but neither has stopped bothering me about the certificate error.
I have the server behind a firewall which allows all outgoing traffic and select incoming ports to the server. The firewall also maps a public IP address to the server's local IP address (e..g, 10.10.10.8).
If I access the Admin Console locally via the LAN address (https://10.10.10.8:8989) it is no longer slow, but I get booted back to the login screen very frequently (e.g, every minute or two of casual browsing through the console), and I still get the certificate error
We haven't given the server a name, but access it by IP address, and the virtual server configuration in the Admin Console is name "localhost.localdomain"
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I've tried searching for solutions several times, but haven't succeeded.
Thanks,
TimThanks for the thoughts

sounds more like some network issues. are you running your browser on your centos 4.4 as well ? also, did you try to connect using your IP - some thing like https://<ip>:8989 ?
No, we're not running the browser on centos 4.4. We're runing browsers on laptops, connecting both offsite via public IP address and in the office via both the public IP address and the LAN ip address.
Yes, we're using the ip address as you demonstrated. This machine does not have a domain name attached, so we only connect via ip addresses (mapped public or LAN)

I've tried following the directions to install the certificate in IE7 and FF3, but neither has stopped bothering me about the certificate error.it is not a certificate error. web server 7 admin server uses a self signed certificate . this is necessary step. however, IE reports a warning when it sees a self signed certificate. it wants you to know that it does not understand who sent this certificate. you need to create an exception - saying that you know what you are doing then there won't be any certificate error ..Okay, I'll look for how to do that, but so far I've only found instructions for how to install the certificate in the browsers, and unfortunately, that hasn't made a difference.

sounds like some network misconfiguration - outside the scope of this forum.I cannot rule that out, but other servers/websites seem to work fine with this same setup. Although, only this server is using https

if you want to increase this time out, you could do so by manually editing <install-root>/lib/webapps/admingui/WEB-INF/web.xml and change the value for session-timeout to say 600 (for 10 minutes).. . pl . note that this is not a supported way and you could potentially leave others to use your session if you are careless. but, if you know what you are doing .Thanks I did that. It surprises me that the default timeout appears to be 1 minute. -
Tons of "Slow getMessage: " errors on console
Hi folks,
Since upgrading to 5.04.02, I've been seeing tons of "Slow getMessage: " notices show up on the console. There's a wide variety of these:
17:51:13.003 Slow getMessage: vdb-001-3 5795 3761 SLAVE_STATISTICS
17:51:29.622 Slow getMessage: vdb-004-0 5813 3786 SLAVE_WORK_COMPLETED
17:51:29.622 Slow getMessage: vdb-004-0 5814 3786 READY_FOR_MORE_WORK
17:51:47.574 Slow getMessage: vdb-001-0 5814 3759 HEARTBEAT_MESSAGE
The workload seems to running fine, and if I filter these out the latency seen by vdbench is only slightly higher than the latency seen by the storage system. The CPU load on the master is negligible. Master and slaves communicate over a 10GbE network with ping times less 0.5ms. System and user CPU load on the slaves is usually low, with most of the time spent in IO wait. Memory is also plentiful and each java process hasn't reached it's Xmx limit. There are times where each java process shoots up to 100% CPU on the processor it holds, but the high CPU for the java processes seems to happen only between runs where there's some communication happening between the master and slaves. Unfortunately the getMessage notices are showing up all the time. Only their contents seem to change.
Environment:
CentOS 7 VM's, 8 vCPU, 8GB RAM
1 master, 8 slaves
java version "1.7.0_71", OpenJDK Runtime Environment (rhel-2.5.3.1.el7_0-x86_64 u71-b14), OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)
vdbench java flags: -d64 -Xmx896m -Xms448m
So a couple of questions:
Are the messages indicative of any problems in the system?
What is likely to be causing these messages when everything seems to be otherwise fine?
How do I tell vdbench to not print these messages? Or do I need to resort to grep -v?
Any suggestions or pointers?
Thanks and take care,
MiroslavCommunication between the Vdbench master and its slaves is done using java socket.
Every interval=n seconds Vdbench asks its slaves for the latest interval's workload and performance statistics.
Throughout the years there have been intermittent problems with socket messages arriving far too late either on the Master or on the Slaves, causing reporting inconsistencies.
What you are seeing is an attempt to provide information about how slow the message traffic can get, this in the hope to some day truly figuring out what the heck is going on. If ANY message arrives more than two seconds late I now report how long it took from the 'send' to the receive'.
I agree, these messages do not belong on the console, and here is a fix: SlaveSocket.class
Place this in /vdbench50402/classes/Vdb
So what is causing the socket delays? Usually when a system is low on memory or free cpu cycles, or, in a multi-host environment maybe the socket traffic is competing with the data traffic of the workload generated by Vdbench. I have never found a real answer.
A second problem can occur when the socket traffic is delayed by more than three minutes, because that is when the Vdbench heartbeat monitor decides that everything is stuck and aborts. To change the heartbeat timeout from three to fifteen minutes add '-d27' as an execution parameter or 'debug=27' at the top of your parameter file.
Hope this helps.

Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper. Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
If you actually used MacKeeper to alter your system, e.g. "remove excess binaries" or such, you will need to reinstall OS X as well as all your additional software. Uninstalling MacKeeper is insufficient to reverse the corruption it is capable of - once again, that is if you used it.
If you merely installed MacKeeper but did not use it to perform any particular action, the following instructions will suffice.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice).
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it.
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.
An apparently modified Hosts file is another concern, which is apparently blocking Adobe software requests to contact its server for whatever reason it needs to do that. If you know the reason for altering Hosts then you can troubleshoot it on the basis of that knowledge. If you do not know the reason, it often occurs as a result of installing pirated or "cracked" software to circumvent its ability to contact an external host to verify their software was legitimately obtained. If that's the case then anything is possible as a result of having installed illegally obtained software.
Awesome Screenshot is adware. Most people don't install such things unless they are deceived into doing so.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. For Safari, go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone. For browsers other than Safari, perform the equivalent actions.
For an explanation or how this may have occurred and how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
Uninstall the following according to their respective instructions.
MicroMat "TechTool Pro"
Western Digital "drive utility" software
Intego "Washing Machine"
You need to be much more circumspect regarding the software you choose to install on your Mac. May I suggest that you review the following setting in System Preferences?
Although you may easily override that setting, it will serve to protect you from inadvertently installing garbage. -
Bpel control console opens very slow (10.1.3.4)
Hi
I have Oracle SOA Suite 10.13.4 (+ MLR #7 patch) installed at HP-UX itanium server. From the past two days, bpel console takes too much time open on almost every page. Few days before this problem started i had changed the JVM settings by increasing the count to 2 (from em cosole) for improving performance, but that made bpel console very slow. So i decided to revert back the JVM settings and made JJVM to 1 again for oc4j_soa and then restarted the server. Bt even now the bpel cosnsole takes ages to open (almost a minute) for every page of console.
The AS control cosole and web service manager console works fine and this issue is with bpel console only.
There is no load on server at present.
Please let me know how i can trace out the root cause for this issue. Is there any way i can increase logging level for the bpel console application and where i can view that log ?
Thanks. Please ask your DBA to check how ur Dehydration repository is behaving. Worth checking ORABPEL and ORAESB schemas.
To me, you might need to purge instances and related data. But please check with DBA first.
Also, while opening BPEL Console, monitor Memory/CPU on Application server and DB server.
They may give some hint.
You can also use tool like JRMC, JUnit etc to see the JVM usage.

Note that none of your messages comes from the Time Machine backup process: it's named backupd
Like many in this forum, I'm not very familiar with Time Capsules. You might do better browsing/searching/reposting in the Time Capsule forum, hidden in the Digital Life section, at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1253 -
Slow Mac? Getting tons of console messages like "ALSPlugin Failed to get brightness -"
I keep getting the same message over and over about 5-10 times per second:
--> ALSPlugin 235.55[46]: Failed to get brightness for displayID 0x04272140
It seems to slow my Mac OS X 10.8 down. I could not find a solution nor anything helpful on the web about any of the keywords. I consider myself pretty tech savvy.
Disconnecting the secondary screen does not help.
Closing Safari does not help.
Closing Mail.app does not help.
Closing Growl does not help.
I have no idea...AxolotlSam, thank you. Your "…launchctl stop…" command also stopped these "…Failed to get brightness for displayID…" messages that were being written into the console of my MBA 11 (2011) at the rate of >2/sec.
