Autodesk 3ds Max 2008

Does Premiere Pro CS3 integrate/import Autodesk 3ds files? Anyone know of any issues or problems? My video guy wants to add animation to his projects but I want to make sure the two programs/formats will be compatible.
Thank you for your help

I don't think Premiere will import 3DS, OBJ, COB, CAR or any 3-D formats. I don't think Premiere has a raytracing render engine to render the 3-D files. I think you will have to render an AVI. The PP CS3 manual should list what it can import.

  • Could Motion 4 replace Autodesk 3ds Max through Photoshop?

I need to draw a 3d depth map and save it as a BMP image file to be used with a Photoshop plug-in that creates a fake depth of field (DOF).
As you may know, in photography, DOF is governed by three factors: aperture, lens focal length and shooting distance. DOF PRO ( http://www.dofpro.com/overview.htm ) is probably the only plug-in that addresses them very well, because it uses a different approach instead of just a simple gaussian blur to reproduce a believable DOF effect.
Unfortunately DOF PRO is 32-bit windows only and requires the drawing of a depth map that contains information regarding the location of objects within a scene, through the use of such software as Autodesk 3ds Max 8. Is there such a 3ds tool in Mac OS? Could Motion 4 do the job? Could Motion 4 work seamlessly wth Photoshop CS5 (its Quick Seletion Tool) and create a still image and save the 3d scene as a BMP image file to be used with DOF PRO plug-in?

I don't know if Motion 4 has a defocusing plug-in or not and I only know that Motion 4 can create 3d animation videos.
A depth map should look like this in black and white (indicating the foreground and Bokeh area) with a grayscale as calculated by a 3ds-like software. The death map should be saved as a BMP image file.

  • HT3986 how to install autodesk 3ds max 2012 in my imac 27, OSX Lion ?

i would like to know how i can install Autodesk 3ds max and Autodesk maya on my 27 inch mac ? (2012, sorry i forgot my OSX Lion version number)

    Hi Sanal,
Maya will run natively on your Mac assuming you meet the minimum system requirements, however 3ds Max currently needs a virtualized environment such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion to operate.
Check out our Mac compatibility page for more, and let us know if you need any assistance with the installation!

  • Parallels + Autodesk 3Ds Max design 2010

Hey! I recently downloaded 3ds max design 2010 (student trial, 6mth lease if it matters) and it downloaded successfully onto my computer. I currently have autodesk autocad 2008 student version which works perfectly fine. When I go to run the 3ds max, it starts up normally and then roughly 30 seconds later parallels shuts down completely and gives a 'fatal error' message apologizing for the shut down and asks to have a written reason as to what happened to send off (which i doubt actually does anything). Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't understand why it keeps occurring, i've tried to restart it like 10 times and it happens every time. Thanks!

    Hi all,
I received a response from the tech development side of
Autodesk on the Max 9 and
    Shockwave 3D issue.
The reply was a little different to the one I posted before.
I have been told it was
not a mistake but an incompatibility with the higher bit
    functionality of Max 9. So
that's why it was removed. But it is temporary.
    Was told:
"This problem has been flagged and is currently being worked
    on.
We will have some service packs sometime in the near future.
    Cannot disclose a date
    at the moment."

  • Can i run autocad 3d, 3ds max and autodesk inventor on imac?

    Hello you all!
I'm ready to buy an i-Mac for my work, but first I need to be 100% sure that it runs AutoCAD 3d. I would really need Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Inventor as well, but I can live without.
Please let me know if anyone knows, and aslo (as I never had anything to do with mac computers) I'd like to ask if I'll be able to keep updating these softwares whenever needed.
Last, does anyone know specifically what specs should I focus on among operating systems or other things when deciding which i-Mac to buy?
    Thanks a lot guys!
    Christina

Very simple to find out, look at the system requirements for the apps and then compare to the iMac you are interested in. As far as updating the apps that isn't a question to ask here, you need to contact the developers or even better just visit their website periodically to see if updates for their products are released. If the app's are available from Apple's App Store then updates would be released from teh App Store. If you are not familiar with the App Store please click:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/apps/app-store.html?cid=wwa-us-kwg-mac-com&siclientid=5 899&sessguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e13-a0a08104279c&userguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e 13-a0a08104279c&permguid=96a06dba-3ee0-4df6-9e13-a0a08104279c
    for information.
BTW if you don't feel comfortable with this answer then i'd recommend contacting Autodesk and asking what hardware specifications they recommend for an iMac and also visiting your local Apple Store.

  • Windows XP SP2 32bit and 3ds max 2010

Hi. I installed on my MacBook Pro Bootcamp and Windows XP. I downloaded the trial version od 3ds max 2010. However, when I try to install it a message pops up "Cant find End User License Agreement". This is a brand new Mac and none Autodesk software was installed here before. I dont know what to do, and I must run 3ds max. Can someone help me? The version of Bootcamp is 2.0

Interesting. The Autodesk documentation says you ought to be able to install 3ds max 2010 on your configuration. So I don't think we're looking at a generalised compatibility problem:

Just checking a couple of things from the installation instructions:
Does your XP user account have full administrative rights?
Have you closed all applications and background applications prior to starting the install?

  • What is the best Macbook Pro for 3Ds Max?

I've been searching the ideal laptop for my job. My software is Autodesk 3DS Max. I know it's for Windows but my friends use the same software and they're using Macbook Pro bootcamp as well but it crashed every now & then. I need a laptop that is light weight, has a video card and a screen that is perfect for graphics. Reviews on the Macbook Pro Retina are quite positive but I read about the ghost screen, lags etc. :-/

The 13 inch wont do you much good in terms of Graphic rendering and transcoding for the following apps, AutoCAD, FCS, Premiere CS5.  The 15" however has a dedicated GPU and also an integrated GPU, if I were you I would go for the high-end 15" Macbook Pro.  Just look at the specs.....

  • MSI for 3DS MAX+AdobeCC+Gaming

    Hello MSI Community,
I'm a new member. As the title says, I need advice on MSI notebooks that can handle Autodesk 3DS Max 2009 64, Adobe CC 64 (mostly PS, IL and AE) and games like LFS, rFactor 1 and 2, FSX, GTR2, GTL, F1 2013, BF4, GTA4.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I do not need a beast of a machine. From my research, I've come to understand that a system paired with 4th Gen Intel Core i7 4700MQ with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M should be fine. If not, please advise. Of course, I would like to have that come with 8 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD (5400 rpm, if not 7200 rpm). SSD's are too expensive, so I'd prefer to have an upgradeable option for it on the optical drive bay.
My budget is USD 1200, but that's including import, taxes and retail. Actual budget is - USD 200. I've been offered this model: http://www.oceanktm.com/detail.php?id=200 for a doable USD 1093 with discount. Is it a good deal?
I have to be honest about not knowing much about MSI before I started researching for a new system 2 months ago. The reviews I've read about MSI have been bittersweet. If you have the time, please help me better understand some of the issues highlighted with MSI notebooks.
    Heat Issue:
I don't know if people have gotten Fahrenheit and Celsius/Centigrade mixed up, but I've read that MSI notebooks reach 90-100 Degrees Celsius. That is in the window of water's boiling point at sea level. Surely, this can't be right. Please advise.
    Durability:
For us back here, a laptop of USD 600-1,000 is a long term investment. I am currently typing this from a 7-year old Acer 4715z. I'd use it for another 3 years if this could handle my needs. How durable are MSI notebooks for those who handle them with utmost care and maintain them regularly (software and hardware)? Will it last 10 years?
    Upgradeable capability:
I intend to later install a SSD drive. I understand the optical drive can house a 2.5" HDD. Will it work for SSD also? Can the CPU and GPU be relplaced also? What if I get the linked model above and later decide to swap the GT 750M with a GTX 770M. Will that work?
    Win 8/8.1 64 Issues:
Is this OS good for work? I understand MSI notebooks have drivers for Win7 64, so no problem here.
    NVIDIA Optimus:
I've noticed Optimus and CCC not detecting DirectX 9c and OpenGL based applications. This may be a Win8 issue, I don't know. Thoughts?
    Power Use:
Due to power restrictions here, I have to go with either a 90 Watt system or a 120 Watt system. 90 Watt is good. The linked model is also a 90-Watt model.
Sorry for boring you all with this long post.:( Many thanks for reading. Even more many thanks for advising in advance. :D

Hey there, It seems you posted this in the steel series engine area of the forums(for keyboards etc) instead of the actual laptop forum. Anyway, where are you from exactly that you need to import. Sometimes it is just better to buy local as this gives you 2 year warranty instead of only 1 year globally.
    Heat issues..
For a gaming laptop it is quite normal that heavy 3d programs like games can force the laptop to reach temperatures of 80-90 degrees Celcius. Laptop coolers are a recommended essential when gaming on gaming laptops. They shoudn't be an issue as long as you keep the laptop dust clean regularly.
    Durability.
Gaming Laptops are or can be just as durable as other non heavy laptops, provided you maintain them and use them with enough care. Obviously, just like any other electronic equipment it is subjected to wear and tear over time.
    Upgrading
Laptops don't in general have any upgradeable components other then RAM, WIFI, HDD/SSD, Disc Drive slots. Most laptops in the 1000 range do not have upgradeable Graphics at all and there even rare in the 2000+ range. Some Laptops have an Upgradeable CPU however I believe the Intel 4700 Series is Soldered on to the motherboard, so none upgradeable.
    Windows
Windows 8/8.1 is fine for work. It has the same driver support as Windows 7. Both in the 32 and 64 bit range.
    Nvidia Optimus
Sometimes it is needed you set which application uses which graphics chip manually. What causes this, I do not know. I think it might be a driver issue.
    Power Usage
Power Restrictions? Most gaming Laptops already use a 180 watt power supply. Watts is just Voltage X Amps, input into the adapter is always 100-220 Volts, which is then converted to say 19.5 V and a certain amps.
    Gaming and application usage.
I recommend you at least get a laptop in the 1200 USD dollar range(without import costs) and a GTX 860M minimum, just to be able to run Battlefield 4 and your 3d rendering / video editing applications adequately. Of course if you can get your hands on a GTX 770M or GTX 780M you should be fine as well.
Videocards with more Vram will help you with your 3d applications and so on, I would take at least 3 GB minimum of V ram but preferred 6 GB(which nets you in the more expensive range though)

  • Which iMac 27 upgrades for Autodesk Revit and 3ds Max

    Hi,
I am an architecture student and I'm about to purchase a iMac 27. I will be using bootcamp to run Revit and 3ds Max and was wondering what upgrades I should make (if any).
    512GB SSD or a 1TB fusion drive
    3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 or a 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    8GB, 16GB or 32GB
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks

    I don't have CS6...
    1) I would max out the video card. FCP X and Motion 5 uses the GPU over the CPU for processing power. Once you buy your new iMac you can't upgrade this...
    2) FCP X and Motion 5 will use all the ram you can throw at it. I have 16 GB of ram and both programs at times uses all 16 GB of ram. I really should bump up my ram to 32 GB. I would say 16 GB is the minimum for video.
    3) The processor would be last on my list. Computers are really fast even with an i5 processor. Once you buy your new iMac you can't upgrade this...
This is the iMac I bought last year:
    27" iMc mid-2011
    3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive
    AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

  • 3ds max, viz and autocad problems with bootcamp

I recently bought a new mac pro 2 quad 3.0 as a workstation. I have two hardrives installed one for mac os system and the other one is for windows and bootcamp.
The problem is that after using 3dsmax or any autodesk program for a while. I turn off the computer and comeback next day and click to continue on my 3ds max file and asks me to activate the software again. This is typical for viz, or autocad. I have to call autodesk every day to activate my software. Tired of reactivating the software everyday...
They told me the problem is with bootcamp..
    anybody has any recoomendations?
    plz help..

I am going through the same problem with v9 and 2008. I am running a MacPro workstation with bootcamp to Vista. I was using v9 fine until I upgraded to 2008 and then the licensing issues happened when switching between Mac/PC. I also upgraded to Leopard so I don't know who is to blame. I want to know if Autdesk changed the licensing technology or if the newer bootcamp in Leopard is the problem. Now I'm wishing I didn't get the Mac thinking I could run core apps like 3DSMax.

  • 3ds max can't save to lion server, 3ds max can't save to lion server

I know there have been many discussions in the past few weeks.
Please if any one can help me with a sollution or work around I will appreciate it.
We have a mac mini server and both mac's and windows in the office.
All work perfect except 3ds max can't save or open files from the lion server. All other programs work perfect from the windows machines to the lion server.
    Anybody found a solution yet?

No I'm still going around in circles. It's infuriating, everything else is working fine, I just have this one issue with the .max files.
I phoned Apple yesteday, hoping that they may help as we have an AppleCare Protection Plan that supposedly has software support. They have not managed to help in anyway, and have suggested that I take out some kind of cross platform support at extra cost, although they may not be able to help either.
They are saying it is third party software vendors responsibility to sort out a fix, which annoys me, as we haven't changed the third party software, we've upgraded the server and now our workflow is broken. I have read of other people that have contacted Autodesk about the issue and they have said that the problem is down to Apple using their own SMB in Lion Server, but haven't mentioned any kind of fix/workaround.
I don't know whether switching the servers SMB off and running SMBup may help. It's not something I really want to do, but I'm really running out of ideas.

From the reviews I've read Autocad seems to have some trouble running on Windows 7. Has anyone been able to run Revit/3ds Max on Windows 7 (It's not listed as a compatible system...)
Would it be better to purchase Vista or XP instead?
also-I'm not sure if I should go with the 64 bit or 32 bit operating system.

  • RPF Camera does not match the scene from 3DS Max or Maya in AE

Hi, since I've been trying to integrate 3D with Motion Graphics, I've had trouble. First I read in VideoCopilot's website that I can import 3D cameras into AE, but when I first tried in AE CS6, right clicking on the RPF sequence layer (with the ZDepth info included), the camera was never imported, and never created a new camera layer.
Then I tried in CS5.5 and from 3DS Max 2013 the camera was succesfully created but it's movement did not match the imported scene, because when creating and positioning some 3D layers, they did not stick correctly to the scene, and they never looked integrated. So it's a pain trying to make them match.
So I also installed Maya 2008 and followed this tutorial (https://vimeo.com/32726702) with a locator for the scene, then saved it as a Maya ASCII, and again when trying to match the camera inside AE with the scene's camera, the movemet of the camera imported was again strange and the 3D layers did not stick correctly to the imported scene. Of course I know I have to position the 3D layers, and I get them to be in the camera sight.
I need some real help because I've tried many times and asked a friend who knows of Maya and 3DS Max, but he could not help me neither inside AE. Again, the importing of the RPF in CS5.5 works fine, but the movement of the camera just doesn't seem to be right what I need.
    Thanks for any help.

Cameras in RPF files must be embedded accordingly. Just because it has depth data doesn't mean there's camera data as well. I'm sure there is some simple check box somewhere. The rest sounds like mundane scale and coordinate issues because you do not set up your 3D scenes properly, but that's impossible to tell for certain...

  • AE Compositor Link & 3ds Max Motion Blur Flip

    Hi,
I have imported an object into AE via the compositor link and state sets in 3ds Max. However the key frames come in as held key frames so I have to first fix that. Does anyone know why they might come in as square key frames instead of diamond shaped ones? Here is an Autodesk tutorial that clearly shows the imported object having diamond shaped key frames without having to change them. Using State Sets - Part 8 - Working with Solids and PSD files - YouTube
But the big problem I am unable to fix is when I apply motion blur to the object. At certain key frames the object flips see a screen shot here: https://assets.adobe.com/link/8eb67d7d-88e0-4ce5-a1e9-4d24802f1dd0?section=activity_public.
It appears that the rotation swaps from being a plus to a minus value in AE at certain key frames causing the object motion blur to get confused. I have spoken to Autodesk support and they are stumped at when could be the cause and suggested I ask here as it may be an AE problem and not 3ds Max. Here is a link to the AE file: https://assets.adobe.com/link/6bceafc4-5410-44ef-9328-bb8011e4a86f?section=activity_public
    Thanks,

Thanks for the help guys. The problem was in Max, I don't know exactly what, the Gamma settings looked fine to me. To fix it I just deleted the Save State and it's Output file and Targa. Then remade them. My guess is when I changed the exposure control it screwed everything up.
I also played around with masking, just getting to know what I have to do before I do it.
Yes, no color correction has been done, even the placement of the Windmill isn't final, this was just for practice and preparation. I am curious as to HOW I should color correct this, I'm still not sure if I want the video darker or more colorful....
Mylenium, I'll look into the Rotobrushing and Refine Edge, and thanks Rick for the link, I'll watch it sometime soon!
