Autofill always choosing the same songs ? (Itunes 9)

Hi,
I'm the happy owner of a 2G iPod nano (first generation) that I was given a few weeks ago. I'm using it together with iTunes 9.0.1 on my mac, and I have a question about the autofill feature.
Is it normal that autofill always chooses the same songs out of my library to fill the ipod with ? No matter what I do to those tracks (listen to them on the ipod, try do delete them in "manual" mode), they always come back when I sync with autofill. I do have quite a substantial amount of other tracks that I like as well, but it feels like autofill picked once and for all the tracks it likes most
What am I doing wrong ?

The only solution seems to be using a third-party application like NanoFibre

  • Autofill always choosing the same songs ?

    Hi all,

What am I doing wrong ?

Sorry about that ; "rude" is not the word I should have used ; "abrupt", maybe, would be closer to how I felt. And yes, my ipod is actually a 2GB one (2G was a typo).
Let me explain a bit more what I'm trying to achieve, and what I wanted autofill to do automagically for me
My itunes library is abuot 35GB, so there is more than enough music to choose from. This is also why I am sometimes not creative enough when it comes to filling my ipod: I choose a few albums that I know I want to hear, I sync my podcasts, but all that often leaves me with maybe half a gig left on the ipod.
When I discovered autofill I was very happy because it chose stuff for me to top up the ipod, and so I ended up with plenty of good surprises : albums that I actually like, and had not listened to for a while. But when I synced the ipod again and again, I realised that autofill did not surprise me any more ; it only chooses high-rated albums and that's it. This is why I asked (naively, it seems) if this was normal behaviour.
But if it autofill cannot do it (what a shame, that really would be a killer feature) I suppose I'll have to write it myself with smart playlists. I'll post my answer here in case people are interested. the hardest point will be to make these playlists select whole albums. We'll see.
    Cheers,
    -G

  • Always plays the same song

When I want to listen to one of my play list (on shuffle or not) it always plays the same song over and over and does not go to the next song in the list.
I tried re-initiating my ITouch but it has not solved the problem. I also downloadeded the 3.o version of Itunes and the new upgrade in case that was the problem. Still an issue.
    Any advice?

you haven't got the 'repeat' button selected by accident have you? (sounds daft but people have done it before and not realised)
tap the screen while music is playing to bring up these controls.
under the time and scrubber bar on the left handside, see those arrows? if they are blue (tapped once) it will repeat the whole sequence of songs (an album, a playlist, etc.) tap it again a '1' will appear on them. this repeats the current thing playing. tap it again to remove these settings.
the arrows on the right will be highlighted blue when it's set to shuffle.
the arrows on the left highlighted when it's set to repeat.

  • New Shuffle always shuffle the same songs in the same order

Just bought a shuffle for Marathon training. Loaded about 150 songs on it (about 1/2 full). I go on 1-3 hours runs. It might be my imagination but the shuffle sequence doesn't seem very random. I seem to hear the same songs in the same order each time.
It's kind of like in Itunes when you hit shuffle on a playlist it mixes the playlist up but until you turn shuffle off and back on, the order doesn't change them again.
Is all the running cooking my brain or has anyone else noticed this with the shuffle?
    Sg

Make sure the play order switch on top is set to shuffle (the pincers with arrows), not play in order (oval arrows).

  • Odd iTunes glitch -- always plays the same song, after the song I selected...

After one song plays on iTunes, it always next plays one particular song -- not the next song on the list, but a specific track, every time. I'd like iTunes to simply play the next track down. How can I fix this?... thanks very much --

Do you have the the Repeat feature turned one? It is the arrowed racetrack on the left side of the Now Playing Screen right below the scrubber bar. Tap it until it is white for no repeat.
    Next:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Genius keeps choosing the same songs

  • Can a PDF be saved so that it always chooses the same printer?

We have several different PDFs that we have designed that merge with our database to pre-populate certain forms with data.  Several of these forms are 8.5 x 11 and then 1 of them is a #10 envelope.  Just for the ease of not having to choose the printer every time, can the envelope PDF be pre-programmed or saved so that it automatically prints to our dedicated envelope printer and the 8.5 x 11 forms automatically print to our Sharp Multifunction Copier/Printer?   I know it seems simple to just click and choose the printer, but considering the volume that we print, it would be nice to not have to choose the printer every time.

When we open the print dialogue, it defaults to our default printer.  It doesn't remember the last printer.  And, depending on which document we're printing, we have to switch back and forth between printers anyway.
So, if I'm understanding you correctly, we could add or own print button to Adobe so that one print button goes to one printer and one print button goes to another?  And this is done with scripts?

  • When using two iPhones (iOS 5) on the same computer/iTunes Is there any way to choose which songs, contact info., etc. are sync'd to each device?

When using two iPhones (iOS 5) on the same computer/iTunes Is there any way to choose which songs, contact info., etc. are sync'd to each device?

    For each iPhone...
From the Summary tab select:  Sync only checked songs and videos.
Under Options in the Summary tab select:  Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi
If you want you can select: Manually manage music and videos.
Select the music you want synced from your iTunes library, same with Contacts.

  • My Itunes library is skipping some songs which is also affecting my ipod, it is always the same songs that skip at the same place, it is not all songs.

Since moving my Itunes to a Vista, it found songs that I downloaded a long time ago and added them to my library but now some songs (not just the ones that were lost in apple land) are skipping after playing a few seconds then it moves onto another song.  The same songs are skipping at the same place when played on a computer and also my ipod.

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

  • How to fix: Music corrupts when transferred to ipod. This happens with the same songs on multiple ipods and the song plays regularly in itunes...

Basically, I've already described the problem. Some songs play perfectly fine in itunes but the same songs corrupt when placed on different devices of varying age. Therefore, I don't think there's something wrong with the original file and I don't think there's something wrong with all of my devices. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

    Hello there klundie,
I was researching the issue you are experiencing, and have come to the conclusion that the songs in question may need to be converted and re imported. This article, iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format outlines how to re import songs that are already in your itunes library, which I believe will resolve the issue.
You can find the article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
To convert a song's file format:
    Open iTunes Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):
    Create MP3 version
    Create AAC version
    Create AIFF version
    Create WAV version
    Create Apple Lossless version
If you haven't imported some songs into iTunes yet, you can import and convert them at the same time. This will create a converted copy of the file in your iTunes Library based on your iTunes preferences. To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows) and choose Advanced > ConvertImport preference setting. The Import preference setting will match what you chose in step 3. iTunes will prompt you for the location of the folder or disk you want to import and convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted. Note: Some purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted. iTunes Plus purchases are not protected and can be converted.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Can i have the same song on itunes in 2 different playlist under 2 different genres

is there a way to have the same song in my itunes but 2 different playlist have it under different genre?

    ryane84 wrote:
if I make a smart playlist how do I pick rock for one song in my playlist but in another playlist have the same song but have it in pop genre
    ryane84:
I think we have all asked you why you feel the need to focus on the Genre of a song? It really doesn't matter, as there are other ways of achieving what you want and in an attempt to solve your problem, we have suggested several things:
The simplest is to create a regular playlist, with the songs you want, regardless of the genre. You choose the songs you want, add them to the Playlist, name it and you're done. Then your mother makes her own playlist with the songs she wants, again, regardless of Genre and regardless of whether any of those songs are in your Playlist. It makes no difference what the Genre of a song is - you put the songs you want into your Playlist, your mother puts the songs she wants in her Playlist. End of story.
If you wish to automate the process (and thereby make it easier to change the Playlist at a later date), I have suggested a Smart Playlist and given you step-by-step instructions to follow. You could have made that Playlist by now and seen for yourself whether it fits your needs.
None of this creates a second copy of the song (to address one of your other concerns).
If you and your mother are using the same iTunes Library, but have your own iPods, then perhaps you are each Syncing selected Playlists to your own devices. Again, that does not matter. The only difference in this case is that there will now be a copy of the song on each iPod. But only one copy in your iTunes Library.
    To finish -
you cannot have one song in two Genres.
You can simulate a second Genre for a song by using a Smart Playlist, as described in one of your other threads. If you are having difficulty following my instruction for the Smart Playlist (perhaps because of a minor error in that instruction), then tell us and we can sort it out.

  • How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already downloaded the song and will not download the song in a different key of the Demo Track

How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already dowloaded the song and will not let me download the song in a different key or the Demo.

    Hello Jigz19,
It sounds like you are unable to play a couple of songs from your library becuase you get a message that the computer is unauthorized to play, but other content purchased that same day works without issue. I would verify that the affected songs were purchased with the same Apple ID first:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If so, then delete the songs:

Then re download them with this article:

  • Playlist shuffle always plays the same few songs

I got a playlist that has roughly 250 songs. Everytime I connect my Ipod to charge it, then disconnect and start the playlist on shuffle mode, there's always a 20 to 30 songs playing first. If I close my Ipod and start the playlist again (still on it most of the time), it shows 1 of 250 and plays the same songs, but not in the same exact order (though sometimes it does for 2 or 3 songs). Just like if the shuffle was on "low" mode or something. It's still choose randomly some song here and there, but not that much since it the same few, ALL THE TIME for a while. The only way to get around this is to connect my Ipod to my computer again (it reset it somehow) or leave it open all the time so it knows wich song has been played (but that's terribly stupid). Is there any other way to go around that shuffling loop? I found myself skipping most of the time since I always hear the same few songs even though there's some songs in the playlist I've never ever played on the Ipod. Is there a way to set the "priority" (like play the most higher rated song first) or the "intensity" (from low to high) of the shuffle?
Got the last 7th gen. Ipod Nano.

On the iPod's Now Playing screen, there is a Shuffle button.  The symbol looks like two arrows crossing.  Is that set to ON?
I ask this because shuffing a playlist should NOT always put the same 20-30 songs at the top of the list. Shuffle means a randomly ordered list is created and played.  If the original playlist is in a somewhat random playlist order to begin with, playing it in play-in-order mode may seem like it is shuffling, even though the iPod is playing the list in playlist order.  And the same songs would be at the top of the list every time, because the iPod not shuffling the list.
Sorry if that's too basic, but I need to ask the obvious question first, and that question is, IS is the iPod actually set to shuffle songs?

  • Why is IOS5 synching always the same songs?

when im synching my iphone4 with itunes 10.5 (+ios5) its transferring all the time the same songs over.
the transfer indicates transferring file 1 of 5,.. then 2 of 3, then 5 of 20, so total amount starts always anew.
it transfers 10% of the library again and occupies extra space on the iphone

    Hi guys,
I had a backup of this Application. I imported it and copied the page in question. now this report is working well again.
I don't understand what happened. Some corruption of the PL./SQL of APEX internals ? Anyway, the backup kept me back on the right track.
    Backuping backuping !!!
    Regards.

  • ITunes plays the same song over and over again.

I have created several playlists on my Itunes for Windows.  I want the songs to play at Random...but it plays the same song over and over again.  If I hit the random button, it will play a different song, but it will then play that song over and over and over again.  So, if I want to go to the next song, there is always a requirement that I manually set it to the next song.
It's odd because I have been using Itunes while listening to music on my computer and this never happened before.
    Any thoughts?
    - Jack

Sounds like you have the repeat single track selected
    This may help explain it
