Autoimporter.app quits upon launch

Question

I am trying to set the preferences for autoimporter.app and when I launch it myself, it quits before I have a chance to set the prefs. I have seen a hint on the Internet that 1) Image capture needs to be already running, andf 2) no camera or other devices (in the Image capture sense) can be attched. Neither hint offers any remedy.
Is this program iontended to be run only by the Image Capture program?
Am I going to be frustrated and should only use it with the default prefs?

Set the NSUserDefault NSConstraintBasedLayoutVisualizeMutuallyExclusiveConstraints to YES to have -[NSWindow visualizeConstraints:] automatically called when this happens.  And/or, break on objc_exception_throw to catch this in the debugger.
