Automate CS4 Updates

Hi,
I'm supporting a group of 15 Mac users that are going to upgrade to CS4.
The users don't have local administrator rights on their machines, so I created a script that runs the Adobe Updater as the administrator, every 2 weeks. This works fine, but it still requires the user to stop what they're doing, install the updates, etc.
Is there any way to automate/deploy updates to CS4, like automatic updates for Windows or Mac?
Thanks!

Jeremy,
>Is there any way to automate/deploy updates to CS4
You may have to call Adobe tech support if no one chimes in here. But I, for one, would not automatically update ANY machine while there's a chance it is still being used for other work. In my opinion, that would increase the risk of a corrupted installation, particularly if the application being updated is still "live".
Although probably not your first choice, even scripted updates would be most safely done before or after hours or during lunch breaks.

  • How to turn off the Automatic link update in InDesign CS5.5?

We have a problem with the Automatic link update in InDesign CS5.5 vers. 7.6
We want to see which images have been updated / modified (ie, marked with the yellow triangle in the links panel).
We want to be able to update the links manually.
Q1: Although we deselect the "Check Links Before Opening Document" and "Find Missing Links Before Opening Document"
under Preferences > File Handling the links get automatically updated even though we choose "Do not Update Links"
    when we open the document.
Is it a bug, or is there another option to deselect the automatic update of links?
Q2: When we open old documents made in CS4, we get this error message (see the attached jpeg).
We believe it is because the links are missing in the CS4 document.
Just as many missing links in the document, as many times the error message is presented.
    It's a loop that we can't pass.
Could these two problems be related?

This is not normal behavior. I wonder what is different for you.
If you deselect "Check Links Before Opening Document," you should not be prompted to "Do not Update Links." This suggest you have corrupt preferences. So try:
Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990

  • Scheduling specific time of day for automatic software updates

How can one schedule a specific time of day (i.e. between 11:01 pm to 5.59 am when I have unlimited download availability) for an iMac to search for automatic software updates? System preferences only offer frequency, but no time option. If it is possible to schedule a specific time, will invoking the feature override the sleep function, wake up the machine and perform the software update and then let the machine go back to "sleep?" Thank you for all your help.

to clarify barney's suggestion, the following terminal command will download all available updates and put them in your Downloads folder.
    softwareupdate -d --all
so what you need to do is this.
    1. turn off automatic software update in software update system preferences.
    2. make a cron or a launch daemon to run the above terminal command periodically at the time of your choosing. to make a launch daemon I recommend using lingon http://tuppis.com/lingon/
The daemon will only run if the computer is not asleep at the scheduled time so you might want to set to to wake/start shortly before that. this is done in system preferences->energy saver->schedule.
to install the updates once they are downloaded double-click on the pkg files and follow the instructions.

  • 10.5.7: Automatic Software Update Feature No Longer Works

Ever since I installed 10.5.7 the automatic Software Update feature no longer works. (Manual updates work fine.) For example, here's what happened today with Safari 4.0.2:
    1. After powering up I got the Software Update icon on the Dock.
    2. I clicked it and it said I had updates that would require a reboot and it asked the usual stuff. (It didn't say what would update.)
    3. I clicked to reboot now and it asked for my password and rebooted.
    4. My MacBook rebooted but nothing had been updated.
So, I went to the Apple menu to check for updates and it said I had Safari 4.0.2 ready to be installed. This time, it worked. Unfortunately, I have to do this two-step process on every update that requires a reboot. I could turn off the automatic updates and just do everything manually but I prefer the automatic way. (I had it before, too.)
    Thanks in adavance,
    Brian

I have check for updates weekly and download important updates automatically enabled.
{quote}I'm thinking that the first time you approved the update, that it could have been for something that was already downloaded in the background, and just waiting for you to OK the install.

    Interesting. I hadn't thought about that. ☺

  • Missing in Automatic Document Update (PO's from Contract)

I need to run automatic PO update on open release orders after updating the contract. The 3 release orders do not have GR's against them or any other follow-on documents.
The CONDBI setting is made for the message updates. The automatic index indicator is on in the vendor master. Because I set the indicator after two of the documents were created, I am running MEI3 to get my index up to date and it is creating entries for the documents in the index.
My contract has two condition periods - one from today to 21.11.2010 for the current price; the second from the 22.11.2010 to infinity with the new price.
My release orders have delivery dates of 22.10.2010, 15.11.2010 and 15.12.2010. Two documents were created 8.9.2010, the third was created today. These documents are selected for the index.
When I run MEI1, SAP tells me the documents were processed successfully, but no changes are actually made. I would expect, with the delivery date of 15.12.2010, that the program would update the release order with the new price, since the delivery date falls after the price change.
If I run MEI4 on the same data, the system doesn't create a worklist, saying there are no changes.  No entries are created in WIND table, unless I make the price change effective immediately on the EKPO-NETPR field - even when using the pricing date field  to indicate the later change (the condition change is also not re-effecting my release strategy on the contract, but that's another problem).  The BD61 change pointer setting is on.
I'm not sure where to go from here to try to get this functionality working.

To automatically created Approved PO's you will need the following
    1. To create Standard PO's a Requisition will have to use a Quotation. This quotation can be attached to an ASL to default while creating a req
The Workflow "PO Create Documents" should have automatic creation allowed set to yes
    2. To create Releases a Blanket PO must be attached to an ASL . The Workflow "PO Create Documents" should have automatic creation allowed set to yes
Please let me know if you have any questions

  • Automatic app updates in ios 8

Just updated to iOS 8, and discovered an odd issue, as follows:
One of my favorite additions of iOS 7 was the automatic app updates, because I do not have access to the app store. My app store is locked under restrictions, but with automatic updates I had no need for the app store in order to update my existing apps.
Well, I just updated to iOS 8, and I find that there is only an option for automatic app updates when the app store is open, but as soon as the app store is locked through restrictions, the automatic updates option disappears. And to add to the mystery, the only way to get it back is by SIGNING OUT of my Apple ID. When I do that, the automatic music downloads option disappears, and it is replaced by an option for automatic app updates.
Is this intentional? Why on Earth is there no option for auto updates when signed in, only when signed out? I can't make any sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Other than that, iOS 8 is awesome so far.

  • Automatic date update in Pages for iPad

I want the date (date feild?) in a Pages for iPad letter template to update automatically (using the system date, like other word process application) but cannot see how to do this. This automatic date update appears to work in the Pages for iPad templates examples. i.e open a letter template and the date field shows the correct date, do the same with the same template 24 hours later and the date is shown correctly accordingly. I believe feature is achieved in the Mac version of Pages by setting up a date field. I would like to do the same with Pages iPad. Any ideas how this can be achieved?

We cannot speculate about future Apple products. We know no more about this than you do at this time.
You can suggest it to Apple at Apple Feedback.

  • Automatic app updates in iOS7:  How do you know what's been updated?

Once you turn on the automatic/background updating of apps in iOS 7, is there any way to know which apps have been recently updated?  For example, there may be new features in an app that you would want to know about.
    Thanks,

You can also open the App Store app > Updates and it will list the apps and date they were updated.
There should also be an alert in your Notification Center (swipe down from the top of the screen) under the "All" tab

  • Reader will not automatically install updates on Windows 7

I have looked through the forums and have not seen this exact symptom mentioned:
"Automatically install updates" does not seem to work correctly on Windows 7. The updates download and I see the "update is ready to install" bubble in the system tray repeatedly. However, the updates never seem to install. I've seen this on more than one Windows 7 machine (it works ok on XP). I suppose this could be something particular to our environment, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to look next. Leaving the system "idle" does not seem to help and the behavior does persist after a reboot.
(I'm running Process Monitor right now and see AdobeARM.exe occasionally and successfully creating and exiting a thread, but not touching any files or registry entries.)
I enabled this setting via the registry -
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
    "iCheck"=dword:00000003
    - and can see in the GUI that it has taken effect.
I do see some files in this directory - does this look correct?

Some additional information. I'm seeing "GetLastError(): 0x2 - The system cannot find the file specified" in c:\users\(me)\appdata\local\temp\AdobeARM.log. But even using Process Monitor, it's not clear to me which file cannot be found.
Still seems to me that updater is downloading the update but never trying to apply it. The most recent thing I have tried is to quit AdobeARM gracefully and restart it. That does seem to have reduced the number of subdirectories in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Reader\9.3\ARM\ to only one (previously there had been one subdirectory per run).
