Automate save as rtf

Our clients want Word files in addition to Help and PDFs. They need to be able to base their custom documentation on our content, and they don't have FrameMaker. FM9 saves RTF files that look pretty decent, so we want to offer RTF versions of everything we produce.  We want to automate the process of saving all of the chapters in a book in RTF. The ideal tool would also open the RTF files in Word and save them in DOC format (to reduce file size), and then make a zip file containing all of the DOC files. But even a tool that only saves all chapters in a book in RTF format would be great. Can  you recommend something? I'm not a developer, but I have access to developers.

The best tool for saving FM files as RTF is omsys.com's MIF2Go -- it'll easily save each book component as a discrete file.
For opening and saving them as DOC files, I'd have your developers create a Word macro or VB script.  You could probably direct the script to check a certain directory for rtf files, and when it finds some, convert and move them....

  • How do I set downloads to automatically save instead of prompting me to open them?

I recently reset Firefox. Before whenever I downloaded a file, it automatically prompted me if I wanted to open the file or save it to my computer, with saving it to my computer preselected. This was fine because I almost never want to open these downloads automatically, and I like all my downloads to go into my downloads folder on a separate drive with much more space (not the temp folder on C:\). The option "do this automatically for files like this from now on" was useful for the rare file type that I would want to open automatically (usually because it's a very small music file or something).
Now every time I download virtually any file type, the prompt comes up with 'open the file' preselected, and "do this automatically for files like this from now on" greyed out. As a result, on more than one occasion, I have mistakenly clicked ok and opened huge files automatically after downloading (which has resulted in them popping open even hours later and playing automatically once the download finished). I'd like to be able to select "save it to my computer" and have it do this automatically, but that option is greyed out.
The help available seems to suggest going into options>Applications and changing the action for the appropriate content type, but:
    (a) not all the content types I download are listed, i.e. .mov, .mpeg, .rar, etc.
    (b) changing the action for the content types I do have (.wmv and compressed/zipped folder only) has done absolutely nothing.
I'm still prompted for each and every file I download, still preselected to open the file, with the "do this automatically for files like this from now on" still greyed out.
I'd like to change it to the way I had before, or at the very least automatically set all downloads to save into my downloads folder.

You can automatically save downloads without seeing the Open/Save/Cancel dialog in the Options:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > General > "Saves files to"
However, I can't think of a way to have the Open/Save/Cancel dialog always default to Save. I think mine suggests whatever I did last for the same type of content, but I haven't paid close attention.
I'm out of time to address the problem with "do this automatically" but there is one suggestion for why it could be grayed out in this article: [[Change what Firefox does when you click on or download a file]].
Is it possible you had a download-related extension before? To compare settings and extensions, please retain the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. Aside from checking the extensions in there, it would be interesting to run a text file comparison on your currently active prefs.js file and your old one in that folder.

  • Ever since I had updated my phone to ios 6, i noticed that it no longer saved photos to my camera roll.  If i download a picture on on an app, it will not automatically save it to my camera roll as it used to do, nor does it save any image

Ever since I had updated my phone to ios 6, i noticed that it no longer saved photos to my camera roll. If I take a picture on Instagram, it will not automatically save it to my camera roll as it used to do, nor does it save any image, I just want it fixed.

To gdgmacguy your a f****** idiot for one I'm having the same problem as pennymar. And you tell me to quit whinning. You got more problems then the iOS 6 you did not answer my question nor the other 13 or whatever you replied to within a 30 min time frame. You must got nothing better to do then to harass people and to pretend you know something about apple products. Which you don't from what I've read the other advices you should have gave to other people. But you didn't you replied a question back to the people asking a question. So if your not gonna use these community forums the right way don't use them at all.

  • Save as RTF-feature in Pages 09

I work a lot with DEVONthink Pro Office, a tool for ordering, categorizing and searching content (mostly documents for me). Unfortunately, while DTPO shows pages files and can even search them, the integration is not complete and leaves something to be desired.
Working with rtf-files, though, is no problem. Now, when I write in Pages 09, I save my working very often, I usually hit the cmd+s combination on my keyboard after each sentence I write. This, of course, does not work when you want to save as an rtf-file. I have to take the long way of selecting "Export" from the file menu, select "RTF", select location etc. I don't have the foggiest idea why Apple don't just implement a direct "Save-to-RTF" feature in Pages, just as is normal in pretty much all other word processors, but hey, that's just my opinion and, knowing Apple, I do not anticipate any changes soon.
So my question is: Is there some kind of work-around? Some kind of keyboard shortcut? Possibly an automator action?
Cheers and thanks for any help given

Perhaps the reason why the other poster suggested not using Pages for RTF export is that it can make a mess of things. You mentioned citations, and I use legal citations in footnotes. Well if I export a document in RTF format in Pages and then import back into Pages (or something else, OpenOffice or MSWord) the footnotes are a mess.
Pages does a good job (for me) exporting in .doc format, but it .rtf export function is rather awful (again for me).
If Pages does a good job of exporting documents having footnotes in RTF for you, then I would be curious as to what version of Pages you are using. I am using 4.0.4.

  • Is there a software program that automatically save stills from a QT video?

Just wondering if there's any software out there that will automatically save stills from a QT video? There's a program called Image Grabber by Cliprex that does this but it only works on PC's. You run it and it makes like 100 imge captures from the video clip and lets you go in and pick the best ones. Anyone know if there's a Mac equivallent out there that does this? Right now, the only way I know to get stills from a QT video is to manually go through it frame by frame and copy/paste, which is obviously very time & labor intensive. I would love to find something that does it for me automatically.

    Hello Doug,
My first recommendation is to take a screen shot of your QT movie using not Preview but Snap Pro X. (You already know: you must pause the QT movie before taking the screen shot of the target frame.) Snap Pro X is the equivalent of Image Grabber for Windows machines.
SPX offers a choice of what size image (10% to 400%) you want and where to save the image (which you name in the window provided). I usually take screenshots with this app @ 100% and select "Save to Clipboard" because then you can open the clipboard image in GraphicConverter or PhotoShop Elements or PhotoShop and then set ppi resolution, adjust size or make any of the modification features available with these applications.
    <http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/>
Also, I'm not certain but I "think" GraphicConverter can select a single frame from a QT movie. The best little trick is use is to open the clipboard mounted images using one of the "New from Clipboard" menu options. There is now a separate manual in pdf for GC; there've been so many new features added that it's wise to spend the extra money. GC is one of the best deals and best supported-by-author applications you can buy.

Both apps are shareware. Updates are free for GC but I'm not sure about Snap Pro X.

  • Opening up PDF in browser window automatically saves it to temp file

    Hi,
In our application, we send pdfs to a popped open browser window for the user to access.
One of the access features is a "Save" button on the pdf that will send an xfdf post of the form data back to the server. (we have the server url embedded in a form field an Acrobat JavaScript attached to a button does the "post").
This usually works fine.  However, we have a few customers that complain the "Save" doesn't work.
Turns out that the "Save" doesn't work because when the pdf is first loaded, it is being saved to a temporary file on the disk (and not held in the browser memory), so the authentication cookie of the browser session is now no longer retained with the "Saved As" copy of the pdf.  Thus, the pdf "Save" fails.
So the question is, why does sometimes, the pdf automatically "save as" to the temporary directory, and usually it doesn't have this problem?
We've seen this both with Acrobat Reader 8 and Acrobat Reader 9 (including the latest 9.3.).
    Thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Hi Bill and Dave,
    Thanks for the thoughts.
I'm confident that this pdf is getting opened in IE (see attached screenshot from a customer).
As far as additional clues...  I was banging on this on my machine (Windows 7, IE 8.0.7600.16385), and I did see it occur once.
Thanks for the thought on the browser.  I'll query the problem customers about their IE version (the site only allows using IE).
When it occurred, (later it dawned on me...but not at the time), the "plug-in" that opened appeared to be Acrobat Standard window (because in hind-sight, I realized that the "Save As" button was available).  The way I seemed to cause it (but cannot reproduce it now) was to change the "Documents/Save Settings/Every X minutes (to value of 1 minute)", and also the Security(Enhanced) to "Enable Enhanced Security" to "true".
note:  I have both Acrobat 9 Standard, and Acrobat 9 Reader installed on this machine.
When I went an reset those values to the original, it was still "stuck" in the "saving to temporary disk" mode (great because it reproduced the problem, but then I seemed to have my machine stuck in this mode).
So I rebooted, and then the IE plug-in seems to now always run Acrobat Reader...and I had the problem no more.
I have not yet been able to get this stuck in this mode again...
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Andy

  • How do I set Adobe Acrobat X to automatically save PDFs to be compatible to versions 9 or higher?

I want to automatically save to a reduced PDF size rather than having to go through File > Save As > Reduce Size PDF.  Can I set something up in preferences?  Thanks.

Its not the way the versions go.
Version go from version 1.3(Acrobat 4)  to 1.7 (acrobat 8)
and yes depending upon what version you use it can save some bandwidth (file size) 1.7 makes the smallest most compact files plus the most up to date features are supported.
about 75% of user around the word still use 1.5 version (Acrobat 6)  seem to be most compatible with the Internet.

  • Coding to automatically save PDF to location

I have created an editable PDF, I have also created a button so that the person completing the form can press to submit and clears the form for the next candidate. What I also want the button to do is rather than bring up the Save as dialogue box, automatically save to a folder on the desk top. Can you help me with the coding I need to add in Livecycle to do this?

    Well,
for a silent saveAs function, you will have to install a custom folder level script on each computer you wanna use the form.
You also have to ensure that the target folder is already present on those computers.
Reader won't create the folder by itself, if it doesn't exist.

I can export to a word format, but how can I get it to automatically save as one?

Pages is not a Word substitute, it saves to .pages files.

  • How can I get iMovie to automatically save to my external hard drive?

I am trying to use my external hard drive for iMovie because my movies were cramping up my hard drive. I already moved them and that worked fine. The only problem is that I don't know how to get iMovie to automatically save to the hard drive now. I don't want to have to keep moving the files from my movies folder to the hard drive.

Do this on the import screen. Look toward the bottom.
