Automate the moutning of a network hard drive?

Hello all,
I recently purchased a LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini for backup purposes. I got the ethernet one because I run a powerbook and am generally on the wireless network. I had no trouble getting connected (I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and a switch which feeds all the hard lines in the rooms). I just plugged it into the network and powered it up. I used the web based configuration tool to change the admin password rename the workgroup, and create my user account separate from the admin account.
I was wondering, is there a way to use Automator to have the computer connect to the drive on my log in? I tried messing around with Automator, but didn't have any luck. I also tried to put the alias in my start up items and that didn't work either.
On a side note, when I open a Finder window and click on Network, there are now three folders in there that did not used to be in there. They are labeled My Network, Workgroup, and Roxohouse. Roxohouse it the name of the workgroup I made, Workgroup was the generic one that the drive named on its own and I have no idea where My Network came from, I had never seen it before. I prefer to have a clutter free environment, but I can't delete the My Network or Workgroup folders because they are owned by the system. Roxohouse contains the drive so I don't want to get rid of that. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I am using FCPX 10.1.3. with Yosemite, and want to duplicate my project and its complete resources to a different hard drive.  When I click "duplicate", it automatically duplicates the project in its current hard drive, unlike the previous FCPX that gave you options. How do duplicate to a different hard drive?

Since projects are now stored in events and events are stored in libraries, you need to create a new l;bray on that different drive or open an existing library on that drive. Then duplicate your project and move it to the new library. It will copy the media. Then use the Consolidate Project File command to round up any external assets; there may or may not be any.

Recently, I have been unable to import all of the "songs" or discs from multi-CD operas in itunes to my ipod classic or Seagate network hard drive. Only 1 or 2 discs or 20 or so "songs" out of a  total of 40 - 80 import despite plenty of available space in both devices. When I check itunes, each opera disc with all of the "songs" are listed. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

  • How do I set up Time Machine to work with an Iomega network hard drive?

I have just bought a new iMac having switched from Windows, and am very much a beginner when it comes to all things Apple. Previously I had used my NAS hard drive with my old windows pc. i successfully used it to transfer a lot of data from the old pc to the iMac but can't seem to get it recognised when I try to configure time machine. I have downloaded the latest version of Iomega Home storage manager which appears in the application folder in the dock, but when I click on The HSM icon it just disappears and nothing happens. I can access the drive through the Bonjour service and can see its contents in Finder. I have looked through the forums here but much of the info assumes a level of knowledge that i don't have. Is there an 'idiot's guide' anywhere to enable me to set up time machine to use the network hard drive?

You would probably benefit from a couple of things, first going through these 2 links
Time Machine FAQs & Time Machine Troubleshooting.
If you still have questions there is a TM forum, because TM is part of OS X you will find the forum in the Snow Leopard forum. Click Apple Support Communities and in the search field type Snow Leopard. Once you are in the correct forum you can narrow your search by clicking Refine this list.

  • Lion - can no longer connect to WD wireless network / hard drive.

I upgraded to Lion and now I am unable to connect to my WD wireless network hard drive.  it tells me that the version of the server I am trying to connect to is not supported and to contact your system administrator to resolve the problem.  Suggestions?

  • Creating Encrypted Time Machine Back Ups to a Network Hard Drive

Hello all, I can't seem to create an encrypted Time Machine back up on a network hard drive.  Can this be done?  And if not, why not?  It seems that Macs have all the necessary functionality already available in Mac OS. Time Machine can create encrypted backups with multiple computers so what's the difference if it is to a network backup drive, honestly?  Any suggestions?
My Set up:  Three Macs, Airport Extreme Base Station, Seagate 3 TB HD (with separate partitions for each computer's backups).  2 of the Macs use ethernet to connect to the network and one uses wireless regularly.  Basically, I'm trying to encrypt my family's backup drive and I don't know how or why I can't.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Appleguy514

First, you need to know that backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
Second, no, you cannot encrypt a network backup on Lion or earlier.  Only Mountain Lion.

  • I use windows 7.  Can I move my itunes library to a network hard drive? If so, how do I do this?

I use windows 7.  Can I move my entire itunes library off my computer to my network hard drive?
if so, how do I do this?
    Thanks

    Hello dreid20,
Indeed, you can move your iTunes Library to a network volume. The only stipulation to keep in mind is that you'll need to be connected to this volume before launching iTunes for it to function properly.

  • Can I use a deskotp hard drive to back up a network hard drive, using time machine?

I have a WD desktop hard drive and a WD network hard drive. I use the desktop drive to backup two computers using time machine and the network drive to store shared information. I wanted to use the desktop hard drive to also back up this shared information on the network drive.
    Any way of doing this?

Sorry, no. I've only used CCC, but I don't know if will actually back up a NAS drive.
I kind of thought a network storage device would come with some sort of built-in back up system.

  • I have upgraded to Lion Os but my Network storage (Iomega Home Media Network hard drive) does not work with Time Machine.  Are there any solution available?

I have upgraded to Lion  OS only to find that my NAS (Iomega Home Media Network hard drive) does not work.  It tells me that it is not configured.  Are there any solutions .  Have Iomega sorted out the problem?

Same issue here.  Based on what I can tell, iomega still has not developed a solution to the problem.  See below:

  • Creating a VPN from my remote powerbook to a stand-alone network Hard drive

I would like to set up a VPN or V secure access from my powerbook to a Network Hard drive so when I travel I can securely access my data over the internet on my hard drive at home, when I have my powerbook with me.
I dont want to have to buy another computer and wondered if I can acheive this with a Networked hard drive, and my router. If so I envisige purchasing a suitable NAS like a Maxtor shared storage plus or a Lacie mini ethernet disk. I have an old router which I may need to update, but wondered if I need to get anything specific for this job?

If your router can accept VPN connections then this should be possible.
You will also need a static IP address from your ISP.
However most consumer routers do not support incoming connections (VPN) in this way, so I would suspect you would need to upgrade your router to one that can.
However you may find using something like a .mac account may be an easier and much cheaper option.

  • How do I get iTunes to recognize my external, wireless-networked hard drive (Western Digital) during installation and set-up of iTunes?

    Hello,
I'm re-installing iTunes for Windows 7 (64-bit) due to a bug that occured with the iOS7 update.  The Genius Bar recommended that I uninstall and re-install iTunes from scratch.  All of my music is located on a WD external hard drive that's connected wirelessly to my PC.  I didn't have this problem until the iOS update for iphone 5, v.7.0.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I didn't relate this; now iTunes will not install on my PC when pointed to my external, wireless-networked hard drive.  It appears that it doesn't recognize it.

  • Can I use a network hard drive to store my music

This might be more of an Itunes question, but I would like to know if there is a problem using a network Hard drive to store all my music on? I'll be using 2 computers to access it, 1 computer handles my kids for there Ipods each having there own logins, and the 2nd computer for my Ipod..
Or do I need to have one computer with 3 seperate logins.. I just want to do things the right way without violating anything.
    Thanks for your help.

No problem with using network drive. Many do.
Easiest when doing this from the start but can be done at any time. Some things will depends on drive. For me, only one can access drive at a time. create a folder on network drive for the library to be in. For each user on each computer map the folder on the network drive to a drive letter. Set iTunes to use this mapped drive as the library location.
Notes to be aware of. Each user will have access to all files on network drive. Files added by one user will be accessible to other users but they must manually add them to their own library. If multiple users subscribe to same podcast there will be duplicate files of episodes in folder. If one user deletes a file from device other users will be affected if tracks was in their library.
